Posted by Robin on 3 September 2009 38 Comments

Tom Ford Grey Vetiver fragrance advertTom Ford Grey Vetiver fragrance bottle

Tom Ford has launched Grey Vetiver, his latest fragrance for men:

Tom Ford's newest fragrance, Grey Vetiver, was created for the man who is debonair, charismatic and provocative. It is elegant, with a refined heart of natural vetiver, superbly blended with sun-drenched citrus, refined spices and prized woods.

Additional notes include grapefruit, nutmeg and orris.

Tom Ford Grey Vetiver can be found now at Nordstrom, in 50 ml Eau de Parfum, $85. (quote via nordstrom, additional information via men.style)

Update: additional notes include orange blossom, aromatic sage, pimiento, amber woods and oak moss. (via wwd)

Another update: see a review of Tom Ford Grey Vetiver.

I smell another trip to the Galleria coming on – I love Vetiver and I’m looking for a non-cat pee grapefruit, so could this be the Tom Ford that I finally fall in love with?

CynthiaW, have you tried The Different Co’s Sel de Vetiver? It has similar notes (grapefruit, spice and iris).

That’s another one that’s on my list to try. I didn’t know it had grapefruit – I was just looking at the salt and vetyver and thought that they sounded good.

I sampled this a few days ago. Its not very vetiver-y in my opinion, as some other vetivers ive tried. I still enjoyed it as a greenish scent, and the lasting power is good. It doesnt come across as debonaire or provocative at all. I think a man who sits at home in torn jeans and a stained white tank top watching Nascar all day could wear this and still smell pretty good.

Unless of course he’s a Chevy guy, in which case he’ll be disgruntled by the fact that this is by Tom “Ford”. :) Great visual though. You forgot the Cheetos stains on the jeans.

I decided the other day that Cheetos need to come with wet-wipes.

For a NASCAR enthusiast that might qualify as debonaire….except for the cheetos residue…seems like he could go wash his hands during a caution or something.

Hey, the CEO loves NASCAR and he doesn’t wear stained clothes or have Cheeto residue on his hands!

Of course, he’s a rather atypical fan, I have to admit.

No, there are a number of EdPs for men, and they’re becoming more common.

Maybe the lack of vetiver explains why Mr. Ford appears a little embarassed in the photo, hiding behind his hand: “I know, I know! There’s supposed to be vetiver, but you know how it goes ..hey, am I giving you a Keanu Reeves vibe? But with better clothes? Man, my forehead is way itchy”.

I smelled this Tuesday At Nordstroms…. Um… Can I Say YE GODS! The Fragrance Is ASTOUNDING! it is like some kind of Highland Mist of Vetiver Wrapped In Citrus and a Blast of Spice! This is Vetiver NIRVANA! Smooth, Aged, Luminous, Unctuous, Warm, Potent, Lascivious Even, But Blurred enough with the rest of the notes as to not be indistinct but more, shall we say, Smudgy! The Vetiver SHINES, make NO mistake on that, but it is so masculine and clean and Sexy, no SENSUAL here, this is a SEXY MANLY Scent, In fact, it is the most MASCULINE scent i have smelled in ages or at least since Encre Noire (again on that one WOW OH WOW, But this has it beat!) It is either going to be Instant Love or Indifference! I find it hard that anyone would dislike or hate this, but it could be a hard sell to some who might find the sheer VOLUPTUOUSNESS of the Vetiver as something of a turn off! it reminds me of stepping into a brand new Mustang, the scent is Leathery but Utterly Fresh and Clean with nono of the Carnal Nature that Leather can bring about in a fragrance or even better, A Perfectly Tailored Bespoke Tweed 3-Piece Suit from the Highest end Saville Row tailor! The Citrusy aspect begins to show more potency in the middle notes and one can feel the smoothness of the Orris in the back of the scent as a supporting character, this is when the scent reaches it’s zenith of wanting to nuzzle up to any man that is wearing this, very much a Come Hither Scent! To me, there is the Faint Whiff of Pepper and Perhaps even Bergamot and something Resinous-y in the back of the palate, perhaps Benzoin (it does have that Infusion Prada kinda back note to it!) and the scent begins as it dries down to literally Jump off the skin it seems, as if it is percolating! the rest is a Magnificent Sexy Blur and i know this has jumped to the very highest part of the top of my To Buy Lust… I Mean List (Whoops Freudian Slip!) and yes, it is a Lusty Scent, as one would expect from Tom! I find that all those Maverick Women who love enveloping themselves in a Dark Cloak Of Encre Noire will love this as well! it’s liek Encre Noire’s Less Sultry Little brother. A MUST HAVE! :-)

Hmmm. Better than Encre Noire, really? I have to admit I am dubious. Planning a mall trip this weekend, I shall see!

I think i would love to have Tom Ford wrapped up all for myself…too bad… well… you know…LOL. I will definitely have to try this. Generally Tom Ford fragrances are definitely headache inducing on me. Hope this turns out to be better than that White Patchouli Stinker.

I sniffed this last weekend and loved it – plenty of vetiver for my nose! The fragrance manager at the Boston NM showed this to me, and she’s someone who really knows her stuff. She said that this fragrance had originally been intended for the Private Blend line, but because of production or timing difficulties, it has been released in the mainstream line. I don’t find it hard to believe at all; I can’t wait to get my hands on some. :-) I might even share it with my DH and leave off bemoaning the HTF status of Givenchy Vetyver.
