Thierry Mugler Alien & Angel Liqueur de Parfum ~ new fragrances

Posted by Robin on 19 August 2009 46 Comments

tm-liq

Thierry Mugler has launched new limited edition versions of Angel and Alien. In both cases, the perfumes have been aged in wood casks in a process similar to that used for Angel Les Parts des Anges and A*Men Pure Malt:

Alien Liqueur de Parfum ~ "Following a method inspired by the traditional maturation process of Rum, the original ALIEN Eau de Parfum is aged in oak casks with an exhilarating and carnal result. The sensual amber-colored fragrance radiates warmth and light from its clear faceted glass bottle, which echoes the effect of pure crystal." Alien Liqueur de Parfum is available in 30 ml for $95.

Angel Liqueur de Parfum ~ "This Parfum is transformed like a fine Cognac, maturing in a cherrywood barrel. This sensual elixir – truly a “liqueur de parfum”. The elegant black and silver packaging echoes the refined pairing of haute perfumery with the world of luxury sprits [sic]." Angel Liqueur de Parfum is available in 33 ml for $98.

Alien and Angel Liqueur de Parfum can be found now online at the Thierry Mugler US boutique or at Neiman Marcus. (quotes via us.boutique.thierrymugler, found via 1000fragrances)

I unfortunately didn’t get excited about either original, and have found all of the flankers to smell like exact replicas. But I want to love at least one of these, because the bottles are gorgeous!

I was very intrigued with the Angel Part des Anges…not at all an exact replica, but too $ for me. This is much cheaper, and I’ll be interested to smell it.

I don’t like any Thierry Mugler’s parfumes at all. They are too much strong for me, and Angel smells so bad on me…. I can´t image this liqueur, but I´m pretty sure that is a very luxury product. The flanker looks gorgeus, but the juice??? I´ll see…. If I dont like how the perfume smells I will pour it in a glass with ice, and here we have a trendy drink “angel on the rocks”.

Angel & Alien & A*Men are all very strong, it’s true. Cologne (still my favorite TM scent) is of course is much lighter.

Robin, I totally agree. I wasn’t even able to score a sample of LPDA, and think my wallet’s all the better for it. But being an Angel lover, I am really curious to try this. I wish there was a Neiman Marcus in my area. 🙁

So I’ll be anxiously awaiting opinions on whether it’s worth the investment. And truly, it isn’t too much more than the original Angel according to retail value, anyway. Viva la discount sites! 😉

I think it’s going to be at Bloomingdales too (maybe already is, I didn’t check).

I received the Extrait de Parfum as a gift last year. Don’t think it’s the same juice as La Part des Anges, but it’s in a numbered, limited edition bottle. (Looks like the La Part des Anges bottle, but without the crystals.) I’ve worn Angel EDP for years, and the parfum is definitely different. It’s much darker and duskier to me. I’d even call it masculine. It’s completely missing the sweetness of the EDP. I personally don’t care for it as much as the EDP! But it’s a great bottle! 😉

BTW, I’m wondering if this “liqueur” is the same as La Part des Anges without the exclusive bottle!? As you say, Robin, it’s MUCH cheaper! And the Extrait de Parfum I have…I know it was over $200. If that’s because of the bottle…wow. Who cares about bottles? Not me, I guess. I’d much rather have an awesome scent at a good price than pay more $$$ for a fancy bottle.

Ha ha…just realized that I complimented the bottle in my first post, then poopooed them in my second post. Oh well. I suppose I appreciate the bottle cause it was a GIFT and I didn’t have to pay for it!!!! (OK…I’ll stop posting to my own posts now). 😉

That’s ok, we don’t demand consistency, LOL…anyway, I’d like to know if it is the same too! If it is, I might have to buy it…but would also be surprised that they didn’t bother mentioning it.

The Anges flanker was sweet, and very much like a liqueur. Have not tried the regular extrait — I should do that.

Snagged a sample of Angel A*Men and it’s probably the sexiest, most intriguing scent I have ever smelled on my boyfriend.
I’m willing to try all of Mulger’s scents as I find them so beautiful and original.

The thought behind them reminds me of the old parfume houses and not the current ones that create and bang them out with celebrity names. I think he is a true artist in the way his design house creates his fragrances.

I also like the fact they are never tested on animals.

I don’t love A*Men but did really like A*Men Pure Coffee & A*Men Pure Malt…and rare that I like a flanker better than the original.

Both of the flankers really are better than the original, though, which is good but just too much (and too sweet for sure). Pure Coffee and Pure Malt take A*Men as a starting point, strip away most of the sugar, and then just run off in completely new directions, PC by hugely amping up the coffee note and PM by introducing a rich earthiness (that isn’t patchouli).

Does Bergdorf Goodman sell Mugler? Because I’m going to be in New York in November, our hotel is like a block away from BG, and if I see that bottle of Angel, I am in big trouble.

A*Men is My Second FAVORITE Fragrance on the Planet, After Jo Malone Wild Fig And Cassis… And Pure Coffee ranks about 3rd. but i have to admit, i can’t stand the smell of Angel for Women, I used to WEAR IT…. ALL THE TIME! but then it turned on me like a Traitor and the love affair ended badly! Now i can’t even whiff it and not get a terrible rush of disgust! Alien is a very good scent and i like it, but anything Angel, Have to walk past it with a Twinge of Regret and Annoyance! 🙂

I’ll have to try the Angel – I like Angel as I was somehow a late comer to it and didn’t work downtown to smell it on everyone walking by.

I got a sample of the Alien Sunessence – and it smells just like Organza. Ha!

Did it? I only smelled it very fast on a card. Actually, not even sure it was that one, but some Alien flanker. I’m not a fan of Alien to begin with.

The only thing from this line I’ve ever tried is Angel (women) and it was frightening….so much so that I can only read these posts with one while while grimmacing in pain…..I have not been able to bring myself to try any others. I just don’t have the intestinal fortitude. However, I think the bottles are quite interesting—the Alien seems imposing somehow, and the AL seems all starry-whimsical-mystical….and blue! Don’t know why but blue bottles always appeal to me. There should be MORE blue bottles!

            Ummm… okay – I didn’t try to post just a single HA!

Daisy, I can’t wear Angel either – I admire what it’s trying to do, but it makes me sick. I am hanging on to my sample though in hopes that I’ll like it someday.

Alien, on the other hand, I love. I don’t know that it’s because it’s that awesome of a scent or even that I want to wear it often, but because of the memory it invokes. For some reason, the first time that I smelled it, it took me right back to 8th grade when I moved to Albuquerque (must be the solar accord) – to me, it smells like Albuquerque and since ABQ is one of my favorite places in the world, I love Alien. So, since I’m going to Neiman Marcus today to *finally* pick up my Cristalle Eau Verte (at least I hope that I’m going), I’ll stop by and try the Alien.

I just love the Alien bottle. I’m going to Neiman’s as soon as I can to try it , although Angel and I never got along. It smells wonderful and sexy on my Mom, but awful and headache inducing on me. Still, you never know!

Will be interested in trying the Angel Liqueur de Parfum – I love the original but rarely wear it these days, a slightly different take on the original without the extra floral notes in most of the previous flankers sounds intriguing, especially since I missed out on La Part des Anges.

I tried this today and I quite liked it. It’s been a long time since I smelled original Angel and from what I remember of Angel, this smells very similar. I do feel that this might be slightly easier to wear though. It seems less jarring if that makes any sense.

Makes perfect sense…the Part des Anges version was much smoother than the original Angel, so glad to hear this one is too, and that the bottle is nice. Hope I can smell it this week…

I actually smelled them both. I’m not a huge Alien fan so, was not impressed. It really didn’t smell much different than the original. I love the Angel though. I pre-ordered a bottle. Can’t wait to get it.

I received Angel as a gift from another cousin during my trip to Lyon, France… This scent is truly feminine and comes across delicate in a strong way (if that makes any sense?). I liked it a lot but my mom loved it more so i gave it to her.

In this case, it was a carded (from the brand) spray vial.
