Donna Karan Cashmere Mist Luxe Edition ~ new fragrance

Posted by Robin on 14 August 2009 26 Comments

Donna Karan Cashmere Mist Luxe EditionDonna Karan has launched Cashmere Mist Luxe Edition:

Introducing Donna Karan Cashmere Mist Luxe Edition. Fifteen years later, the seduction continues. Inspired by the soft, sensual feeling of cashmere against bare skin, Cashmere Mist is a fragrance light enough to wear all over your body—all year long. It seduces the senses and spirit.

The fragrance notes include lily of the valley, suede, bergamot, ylang ylang, jasmine, sandalwood, orris, amber, vanilla, cedar, patchouli and musk.

Donna Karan Cashmere Mist Luxe Edition is available in 50 ml Eau de Parfum for $70, and can be found now at Sephora or Nordstrom. (via sephora)

Update: Cashmere Mist Luxe Edition will be a permanent addition to the Donna Karan line. It was developed by perfumer Jean-Marc Chaillan, and "takes select raw materials and replaces them with the highest-end possible versions of them". (via wwd)

I love cashmere on my palms but wearing just a cashmere sweater on bare skin makes me itchy. Maybe it has illegal doses of citrus oils and oakmoss! That’d be amazing. And would probably smell so amazing you wouldn’t care about the rash.

I don’t know how necessary this sounds though; the original was never my favorite. Kind of dislike the bottle, too. Like a crystal urinal or something.

The bottle looks to me like it should have something else joined onto it. Hard to explain. Incomplete somehow.

I liked Cashmere Mist okay but never bought any. I may give this a sniff if I pass by it on the counter.

Kind of looks like a pipe, too. The for-smoking kind. =P

I do think the squared-off top is a little anti-climactic, though. Maybe a cool fern-like swirl or something eye-gougingly pointy would be better!

Tama…you are right the bottle does feel incomplete. I’ve always thought it looked like some kind of headless bird maybe an Egret or Heron.

        Have a great weekend everybody..

I think it’s supposed to be a deeper scent, made w/ higher quality materials. I was never a fan of the original, but this sounds nice for anyone who was.

when I first saw the bottle, I thought, “that looks odd.” Then I thought, actually its quite an ugly bottle. Then I read ASUPERS comment about a urinal , and you’re right, it IS reminiscent of a mans portable urinal!

I’m not a fan of the fragrance but their deodorant is amazing.

I used to love this scent, but as I’ve become a more experienced perfume sniffer, it’s become a little too sweet for me. I think the bottle looks like an iceberg.

I didn’t mind the original Cashmere Mist, but it lacked a certain something; it was nice, refined, inoffensive, and definitely not cheap-smelling, but nothing about it really stood out. A deeper version of it might be more “rich” smelling, but still nothing to attract.

That’s how I think of the original too.

I just smelled it on a paper strip (harper’s bazaar Sept issue)
It reminds me of the original but (at least on the paper strip) the Lilly of the valley and the Ylang Ylang stand out.
There is a pinch of suede and Vanilla… the bergamot is barely there.
As for the rest of the notes, they are either too blended or just indetectable on the paper strip.

I must say I LOVE the graphic ad with Milla Jovovich.
The photography is amazing ( color but with a little grain to it) and she looks sensuous and lovely.

I smelled it on a blotter at the store, and smelled the regular next to it…I did think it was nicer, but it isn’t a fragrance I love in any case. I haven’t seen the ad, will go look for it!

I’ve worn/smelt so many fragrances that I’ve stopped counting, but being a perfume-a-holic, I figured, why not one more? I think I may retire with this one- oh did my body chemistry love this! Sensuous is certainly one of the best adjectives used to describe this scent. I was a little worried about the vanilla notes, not being a fan of that scent and neither is my body chemistry, but the sandalwood fan in me urged me on. I was very pleased for the vanilla is very subtle( not of the household air freshening category like most fragrances I’ve tried) and the overall effect from start to finish very feminine.

Thanks Robin! I’m afraid to smell the original for fear the spell of the Luxe edition may be broken. How do you think they differ?

In this case, it really is “truth in advertising” — the luxe version just smells nicer!

HAS ANYONE ELSE EXPERIENCED A RASH FROM USING THIS PERFUME? I HAVE NEVER HAD THIS HAPPEN BEFORE, BUT ALL THE AREAS WHERE I SPRAYED CASHMERE MIST HAVE BROKEN OUT IN A VERY ITCHY RASH. I AM CURIOUS TO KNOW IF THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ANYONE ELSE.

I don’t know of anyone else who has had an allergic reaction, sorry! Hope your rash goes away soon.

Yes! I just returned from the ER with my mother-in-law who had a severe allergic reaction to the Cashmere Mist deoderant! Massive hives, swollen lips, throat, and tongue and tightness in her chest. It took a dose of epi and a benedryl drip. She’s on steriods treatment for several days! This is not someone who has ever had an allergic reaction before!

I was looking for something in the “catch all” drawer and I found a big sample of Cashmere Mist. I’ve always hated this scent, but I love Milla Jovovich and she’s the face. I sprayed it on my skin and I reeeaaaly like it. Wayyyyy different on my skin. I have to try the luxe edition. I might buy this!

It’s not a favorite scent of mine, but did think the Luxe version smelled much nicer. Worth a shot if you can still find it.
