    I love this song. And talking of waiting hours for something……I hear that Ormonde Jayne is releasing a new scent this summer which is very exciting, plus smaller travel sized bottles of current scents. Robin – could it be the long awaited incense you’ve been craving?

    Is it just me who’s kind of skeeved out by what looks like a fourteen-year-old Lolita type saying “My secret lies within”? Just…ew.

    But then I am probably oversensitive, because I’m the one who thought that the Wanted ad from yesterday looked like a silicone sex doll. And I’m sure the ad is really very innocent, just a girl playing grown-up and dancing around to pop music. But still….

      No, I think you are right….she looks about 14 and it’s pretty creepy if you think about it too much. I know they are going for a young demographic (who isn’t?) but still : creepy.

      BTW, I totally loved your real doll comment. There’s definitely something weird about a doll made to look like a real woman for men who can’t deal with the hassles of being around a real woman, and then making real women look like said doll. If you follow me.

        And no….while we may not know the real age of the model…the point is the impression of age (or lack thereof) that is projected. She could be 35 but if the image is telling the viewer “hey look 14 and available” then that’s high on the creep-o-meter.

    I’ll fourth the skeeved out feeling from “my secret lies within.” But heck I guess we should all be immune to this Lolita thing in advertising by now, because it ain’t going away. Remember 12 year old Brooke Shield’s “nothing comes between me and my Calvins?” Or those other Calvin Klien commercials from the ’90’s that were supposed to look like home-made kiddie porn? I guess I’ll just quote Bill Hicks and say, “All people in marketing and advertising should kill themselves. You are Satan’s little helpers.”

    Having said that, uhh… kinda cute ad, cool song.

      I know I’m getting immune to it…I hardly notice. I just thought it could have been a little more fun. I think I’m the only one who just thought it was maybe too dull.

      Pardon my being weird for a minute, but even the use of the name “Lolita” has gotten distorted over time. It’s been a long time since I read Nabakov’s book, but it’s not about a coquettish little vixen who seduces an older man–it’s about a young girl being abused. (Again, haven’t read it in a long time, but I do remember being stunned that anyone could draw any other conclusion after reading it.)

      Ok, sorry for the rant. Please return to perfume.

        Yes, truly disturbing book. Further disturbing that “Lolita” has made its way to pop culture as referring to a young temptress.

          For what it’s worth, I’ve read “Lolita”, and I was using the term in the sense of “inappropriately sexualized minor female” and not “naughty little minx”. I should probably have been clearer about that, although I thought my distaste for the eroticization of the young was evident.

          Also for what it’s worth, I think the ad could have been done with a completely different tone and still have stressed the youthful audience for the scent without seeming alarmingly lecherous.

          And now I don’t even want to try the scent, which is rare for me.

    Scarlett O’Hara, Scatlett Johnason… the name certainly cnjures up something bolder than a young anonymous model in a white frock frolicking in a white room.

    Thought the ad was a bit forgettable; could just as easily have been for tampax. What I didn’t like was the adult male voice at the start saying ‘Scarlett, who are you?’; found that a bit creepy.

    Maybe they’re trying to push the “grown up and sophisticated” angle to capture the youth market. Whatever the goal, I’m in no hurry for my daughter to grow up, and it’s ads like these that make me question how “old-fashioned” I am when it comes to raising a little lady. All the mixed signals these ads send don’t help the pressure to be sexy and worldly at fourteen while still trying to get out from under all the rules and expectations of childhood. Wow, I so sound like a parent. 😉

    Nice touch with Cure, though. I still love them and the remake was cute.

    I didn’t think the “Scarlett, who are you?” and “my secret lies within” were sexual.

    Maybe some other countries would perceive this differently.
    The ~*fun yet demure*~ and pink and white seems like it would appeal to the Korean market.

      I wouldn’t have found the “my secret” phrase creepy if there hadn’t been that older male voice at the beginning. If it had been a teenage boy’s voice, not so creepy.

      You may have a point with the Asian market.

    I think this could have inspired a much much cooler fragrance commercial. Still, love to see the Cure honorably referenced wherever. *loves*

    I am generally quick to jump on the whole “I hate this sexualizing young girls” thing, but I gotta say, even after reading the comments before watching the vid, and being prepared to be outraged, the thing that stood out for me the most was how much the cap to the frgarance looks like a roll of toilet paper , especially the large, rotating one she is perched upon.
