Acqua di Parma Magnolia Nobile fragrance

Acqua di Parma will launch Magnolia Nobile, a new floral fragrance for women, in July. Along with Iris Nobile, which launched in 2004, the new scent will be marketed as part of the Acqua di Parma Nobili Collection for women.

Magnolia Nobile was developed by perfumer Antoine Maisondieu, and features notes of bergamot, citrus, cedar, magnolia, Bulgarian rose, jasmine, sandalwood, patchouli, vetiver and vanilla.

Acqua di Parma Magnolia Nobile will be available in 50 and 100 ml Eau de Parfum. (via cosmeticnews, image via gosee.de)

Sounds nice. Could never work out why I didn’t love Iris Nobile, though.

I loved it, but at any rate this one sounds quite different…they’re using the same name but don’t think they have any other relationship.

i liked Iris Nobile as well, but not love. as usually most irises are good on on me. prefer Hiris, gentiane Blanche. Silver iris mist and the VerjKoff irisses.

i am afraid magnolia nobile will be a scrubber, unless alchemy happens which it sometimes does.

Iris is a wide strike zone for me. I found positive hits with Hiris, TDC iris, 28 La Pausa, and yes, Iris Nobile. Both edc and edt of Iris Nobile at that.

Magnolia is not a note that makes me jump up and run out the door to find it, but I’ll definitely give it a go sometime, just out of respect for what Acqua di Parma did with iris. I’ll finally try the Coloniale, too.

I wonder if we keep promoting Profumo will people actually start going out to try it? Profumo is one of the best smells in the World. Period. Try it people! ;-)

I must say I am curious about this magnolia thing aswell. I liked the Iris well enough.

Hey Nina! This is J. I was looking at your gravitar and I was wondering….is that, by any chance, a piece of a Rossetti?

I believe it’s The Crystal Ball by John William Waterhouse, whose style was similar to Rossetti’s. (Waterhouse was one of the later Pre-Raphaelites.)

If you want to see something extraordinarily gorgeous, look up the etching “Proud Maisie” by Frederick Sandys. I love Rossetti the most of the Pre-Raphaelites, but “Proud Maisie” is just about the most beautiful created object in the world.

wow, Py, you called it. and “Proud Maisie” is nice…even if it weren’t an etching…pretty impressive. I’m not much of a Pre-Raph. Brotherhood person myself….I actually am quite fond of Raphael (and Caravaggio– speaking of which, someone had his Judith as their gravi. how awesome it that!)
          Thanx—J

This list of notes triggers my lemming switch, so it’s just a matter of time until a sample finds it’s way into my basket at TPC….and a July release is nice—I hate it when I’m forced to salivate for months waiting for new perfumes (such an inconvenience!)

Nina, I didn’t love the Iris Nobile either and don’t know why. It sounds like it’d be right up my alley too….but it’s been months since I first tested it…maybe I should drag that sample out and try it again.

Do try Iris Nobile, it’s sort of a love it or hate it but worth a shot. And everyone should try AdP Colonia!

Iris Nobile is definitely a love it with me. Although it is rather ‘perfumey’ and gives me a headache if I over apply.

I have a sample on the way. Colonia sounds as if it would be a wonderfully elegant, light scent for those days I’m having trouble deciding what I want to wear. Your suggestions are my command…

I really look forward to trying this. Iris Nobile, the edt and not the edp, is a love of mine. I’ve also been on a magnolia kick lately, dousing myself in the likes of Kenzo de fleur de Magnolia, and J’Adore l’Eau.

I’m really glad you said this, I totally agree. I’m starting to wonder if my idea of iris is really iris at all. (Although I have them growing in my yard, so I should have some clue what they smell like.) Maybe it’s the iris ROOT I don’t like? I’ve tried the Prada iris (smelled like soap to me) and Chanel La Pausa (ditto)–wasn’t getting any real iris. Again, maybe the problem is me. (Too much Zicam?)

most iris perfumes are refering to orris root I believe which is really different from Iris blossoms like we have in our yards.

          • Daisy says:
            17 June 2009 at 11:01 am

and no more Zicam for you anyhow.

Yep, iris as a perfumery note does not smell like iris bloom, which I love, by the way. So far, the only iris-focused fragrance I really, really like is OJ Orris Noir (thanks for the sample, Daisy!) – I have mostly found other iris fragrances pleasant but not compelling. Hiris, Prada IdIris, Iris Taizo, Iris Pallida – meh. (Sacrilege, I know.) Haven’t tried Silver Mist… I seem to like iris mostly as a backup singer, as in most of the classic Chanels.

So what I hear you saying is, the problem IS me? ;)

          • Daisy says:
            17 June 2009 at 11:50 am

You are so welcome Mals! You know how I like to victimize…er…SHARE with my friends! I know this is sacrilege but Silver Mist just smells like metallic dirt to me….no pinching now. I think I have a sample somewhere…I’ll send it to you if I can locate it. Oh, I just ordered a bottle of Luctor et Emergo …I’ll send you a bit of that as well.

          • LaMaroc says:
            17 June 2009 at 12:01 pm

Prada’s iris was the first one that came to mind. I was so disappointed with it. Hermes’ Hiris is one of my favorite fragrances – I like a cold, earthy, rooty scent. Some iris ends up smelling like my grandmother’s old violet scented bath powder (not a bad smell, but just not what I want).

          • Joe says:
            17 June 2009 at 12:04 pm

And you know, OJ Orris Noir just didn’t do it for me in any way, but then again I only sampled very briefly. Need to pull that out again.

LaMaroc: I’d recommend getting a sample of The Different Company Bois d’Iris. It helped me “get” the note of iris root. It also just happened to become my favorite iris.

          • Janice says:
            17 June 2009 at 12:49 pm

After sampling several different iris scents I think I’m finally “getting” it. I like Iris Silver Mist and Bois d’Iris and Le Labo Iris. Also OJ Orris Noir at the beginning, but after a while I started getting a strange menthol or toothpasty note from it… I’m sure that’s just me!

Daisy: metallic dirt sounds great to me! I have to try that Iris Silver Mist…

Antoine has made some pretty rockin’ scents, eh? CdG Hinoki, Stephen Jones. . . Good choice of a nose for Acqua de Parma. This one sounds like it’s got some serious potential. I already adore Colonia and also Iris Nobile, the edp more than the edt, but wouldn’t kick the latter out of bed for eating crackers. :-)

Considering the quality, this line is quite reasonably priced, which is more than I can say for some new niche lines of late. . .

This sounds pretty nice and should excite a lot of people, I should think, eh? I’d like to try it, and I’ve never tried a single magnolia scent. I had an “a-ha!” moment a couple weeks ago while sitting near a datura tree and a friend pointed out that it has a lemony note similar to magnolia.

I love AdP’s packaging. I’ve still never managed to sample Colonia Intensa, which has been on my list forever.
