John Varvatos has launched John Varvatos Rock Volume One, a new limited edition fragrance for men "inspired by John Varvatos’ passion for rock ’n roll":
A surprisingly edgy interpretation of the signature John Varvatos scent, this fragrance boasts an intricate blend of rose absolute and coffee that delivers a new level of sensuality and an explosive rock ‘n roll vibe.
Additional notes include fig and coriander.
John Varvatos Rock Volume One is available now at Bloomingdales; $82 for 120 ml Eau de Toilette. (quote via johnvarvatosfragrance, additional information via men.style)
Also new from John Varvatos: Artisan
Update: additional notes include clary sage, metallic aldehyde accord, vanilla, black leather accord and night blooming tobacco accord. Thanks to jonr951 for the tip!
Another update: John Varvatos Rock Volume One was developed by perfumer Rodrigo Flores-Roux. Expect to see Rock Volume Two in the fall of 2010, and Rock Volume Three in the fall of 2011. (via wwd)
Rose and Coffee? Hmmm…little odd no? I do like what he’s put out thus far though. Guess we shall soon see…or sniff I should say. Have a nice day.
Could be nice though! At least, it doesn’t sound horrifying to me, LOL…
I’m guessing his favorite band was Venti Macciato and Roses?
Not exactly what I think of when I think rock n’roll but I’m very interested in these notes…and John Varvatos hasn’t let me down yet, so sounds like a must-sniff.
I really liked Artisan, but at the moment can’t remember what the first JV for men smelled like.
Agreed, I’ve liked what I’ve smelled so far…could be interesting. I’ll have to see if it’s at my Bloomie’s yet. Not so keen on this bottle though…and I do wish he’d put things out in smaller bottles (yeah, yeah). 🙂
Can’t make up my mind about the bottle. Don’t like it nearly as well as Artisan, that’s for sure.
His clothing doesn’t reflect a rock n roll image, but his 1st fragrance for men is quite nice.
Wish I could remember it! The women’s was nice but too sweet for me.
Ok, having spent way too much time around musicians in my younger years, I can tell you they don’t smell good! If you want something that smells like rock and roll, you’ll be getting sweat, beer, and possibly stale marijuana smell (along with other notes I don’t care to mention in polite company). Don’t know what coffee and rose have to do with rock. 🙂
If you can’t mention them in polite company, JV probably can’t put them in his fragrance 😉
I’d like to give this one a sniff. I like the original, but loooove Vintage on dh. Artisan was nice, but a little too orange zesty on me (I was hoping I liked it so I could get one of those neat bottles for dh and borrow it occasionally). I had high hopes for the women’s version, but I didn’t care for it on me. Too syrupy or something…
I hope this one is nice, although I don’t like the bottle as much as his past bottles. I don’t really get the rock n roll vibe though, sounds a little “cheesy” to me.
The bottle kind of resembles a flask. Which could be the most rock n roll thing about it. 🙂
I love the original JV–it’s a classic that smells of leather and wool, well to me at least.
Rose and coffee makes sense, as long as the coffee is dry, like what was used in A*Men. It would probably bring out the woodiness of the rose, which I wonder would be the powdery type or the all out floral type.
Can’t wait! I thought Artisan smelled nice, but my heart wasn’t in an EdC at that moment–not to mention I think he wanted to reap profits off of Sean Jean’s citrus territory.
Oh, but Artisan was miles & away better than anything from Sean John. IMHO, of course!
Didn’t think Sean John was innovative enough to claim anything as “his” territory, either.
Would have to agree with that one too.
This sounds interesting! Agree that it seems about as rock’n’roll as the Ed Hardys seem tattoo, but the notes are sure intriguing.
See the rest of the notes in the update above…now it has metal & leather which I suppose is more rock n roll, right?
TOTALLY! All it needs is a good cocaine accord, and it will have me sold on it’s rock n rollness. 🙂
LOL…you can’t have everything!
will it be available in other stores like nordstrom and macys soon? i have no bloomingdales near me and im really looking forward to this! while not madly in love with the original, vintage, and artisan, i thought they where well done and nice. i am in love w/ john varvatos for women though. rose and coffee definately sound great to me! im kinda diggin the bottle! i really want to smell it!
it also has fig, vanilla bean, leather and tobacco flower!!! oh im definately not waiting until other stores get it! ill for sure drive an hour or 2 to smell this at bloomingdales!! does anyone know what metallic aldehyde accord is? its on the list of notes for it at johnvarvatosfragrance.com and i have no idea what it is? i kinda dont want 2 smell like metal!
I totally missed that up in the corner on the varvatos website, huge thanks! Hard to explain but you’ll recognize the metallic effect when you smell it…smells like metal, sort of.
And sorry, no idea how widely it will be distributed, but will update again if I find out.
Ah well. I had to kill time at the mall waiting to pick my daughter up from the water park, and out here in the middle of nowhere, our Bloomie’s hasn’t even heard of it. Now I have to try to remember it exists so I can look for it later. 😀
I love it when they haven’t heard of scents being sold on their own website 😉
miss kitty v., I totally agree with you, I’ve got some experience there as well. No one would really want to smell that bottled! That being said, my interest is piqued about this fragrance, especially the combo of the rose, coffee, leather and tobacco notes.
OMG! I found it at Nordstrom today and Im in love w/ another one! The first cologne from JV that i actually really LOVE! I have to have it!
I haven’t smelled it, but in general so far have thought JV does a better than average job at fragrance. I am still wanting a bottle of Artisan 🙂
