Thierry Mugler A*Men Pure Malt ~ new fragrance

Posted by Robin on 2 May 2009 44 Comments

Thierry Mugler AngelMen Pure Malt cologne for menThierry Mugler has launched A*Men Pure Malt, the latest limited edition flanker to 1997's A*Men (AngelMen). It follows last year's A*Men Pure Coffee.

An innovation in perfumery, Pure Malt honors the tradition of Scotland’s peaty Whiskies with its smoky and sensual woody accents. The result is a surprising fragrance of elegance and sophistication in which several malts collide, exciting the senses and revealing a truly noble and refined masculinity.

Thierry Mugler A*Men Pure Malt is available now at the Mugler website; $70 for 100 ml, concentration unknown. (via thierrymugler)

Other recent launches from Thierry Mugler: Angel Sunessence, Alien Sunessence.

I’m a bit curious about this but can’t really imagine what it smells like. I know there’s a whiskey/peat note in Cumming but I can’t exactly pick that out. I like to sniff a dab of Cumming from time to time, but I can’t imagine spraying myself down with it.

Pure Malt still sounds like a funny name for a scent to me, but at least this will be unique. I never did get around to Pure Coffee, though I’d still like to.

I’m hoping it’s rather like that Angel La Part des Anges…

I thought that was a great scent, and the Pure Coffee was really well done also.

This one sounds interesting. I sometimes splash some really peaty single malt (for example Ardbeg) on my wrists for a wonderful smoky, somewhat medicinal skin-scent. I learned this trick from a Whiskey tasting course…

My thoughts EXACTLY, lilydale — there are already frags that people complain about that supposedly make them smell like lushes. Dabbing whiskey seems like quite another story! HA! I love it! I just bought some Bushmill’s; maybe I’ll experiment and see what kind of effect I get.

I just bought this last night ( here comes the abuse)…lol. It fits right into the Mugler Mens lineup of fragrances where the final drydown is a very nice patchouli. Def not a LOUD frag like A men. Malt is lighter like Coffee. If you like Coffee…you will like Malt too. I did. Joe and Robin just hit me up in e mail if you want some?

I loved the coffee one but never got any – was just going for a decant, so will still get it at some point if I can. I love the smell of Scotch, and since I can’t drink it maybe I can have a vicarious experience with this. It’s funny, because I pretty much despise A*Men (gaaaaccckkk!!), although I do like Angel.

I wanted Pure Coffee before I even smelled it, and when I went to a department store (in a different province) where I was pretty sure I’d be able to get it, I smelled it before I even saw it (because of that packaging, a scented rubber pad inside the box and a hole to liberate the scent), and I bought it as soon as I tried it. And now I want Pure Malt, too, without even having tried that. I’m helpless in the grasp of Thierry Mugler and his irresistible men’s scents, damn him.

Does anyone know if this is being launched in stores any time soon? Because I’m going to New York next week….

I’m afraid I have no idea. The TM website says “online exclusive”, but perhaps that’s just for now? Hard to believe they won’t distribute it. Maybe email them?

If Carlos just bought it last night (and are we surprised!? HA!), he should know where to get it in NYC.

Just poking my head in… Try giving the T Mugler counter at Saks 5th Avenue in NYC a call. Saks’ T Mugler manager mentioned this fragrance to me a while back, and raved about it… he said they would be carrying it.

Lol. I swear I was not on a fragrance trip. I was accompanying a gf of mine to the mall to buy some cream at Macy’s in Kings Plaza. I was almost JUST out the door and the SA nabbed me! Sniffed liked bought. If the Macys in Brooklyn had it already…the Herald Square Macy’s will for sure have it Pyramus.

Some have written that two of my favorite fragrances, Bois d’Iris and Fleurs de Sel, have a “whiskey” element. I’m not sure if I agree or not, but I love those two fragrances and I do love the smell of scotch whiskey! So this one will be a must-sniff for me at some point.

Hmmm…can’t decide if I agree with that either. Maybe I’m missing it.

H, you know I love Bois d’Iris but I get no whiskey from that, unless I have no idea what I’m looking for (even though I drink whiskey… mixed).

I just recently got a decant of Fleurs de Sel and that is really an amazing fragrance (we really are scent twins), but it doesn’t scream ‘whiskey’ to me either.

Well, Tania Sanchez (in The Guide) opined that one stage of Bois d’Iris has an aroma like “a good scotch”, and Nukapai on Basenotes likened the smell of Fleurs de Sel to “a very good, aged whisky.” Interesting, huh? Joe, glad to hear that you like Fleurs de Sel, too. Doesn’t it make you want to take a trip to Brittany?

OH ME OH MY OH YES!!!!!!!! Been Waiting ANXIOUSLY for this one… All the Mugler Men’s Scents are right up my alley, I DO have a bottle of Pure Coffee and it is a cherished, CHERISHED Fave (Like AngelMen and Jo Malone’s Wild Fig and Cassis and Dark Amber and Ginger Lily) i am one of those few that AngelMen is my absolute FAVORITE Scent and Pure Coffee would be second. Love the almost Metallic tinge to AMen…. YUMMY! this Sounds So Supercalifragilisticexpialadocious! WANT IT WANT IT WANT IT!!!!!

Profumum Fumidus has a strong note of whiskey.

I ordered off the Thierry Mugler website and received my bottle on Friday. It is delish! You can smell the A*Men base, with a fabulous boozy smell laid overtop of it. I am hoping it will show up in stores here soon so I can lay in an extra bottle of it, since it’s LE.

Pure Malt is a lot like the Coffee but instead of being rich and warm goes in a different direction for summer. Has some elements of Gaultier’s Fleur du Male but spicy. I too am helpless in the grasp of Thierry Mugler (including Angel Ice).

I really liked Coffee but haven’t tried this one yet…surprised though, would have expected Malt to be richer & warmer than Coffee!
