Dolce & Gabbana The D&G Fragrance Anthology ~ new fragrances

Posted by Robin on 1 May 2009 34 Comments

Model Naomi Campbell for D&G L'Imperatrice 3 perfumeTyson Ballou for D&G Le Bateleur 1 fragrance

Dolce & Gabbana's D&G line will launch The D&G Fragrance Anthology in September. The five fragrances, Le Bateleur 1, L’Imperatrice 3, L’Amoureaux 6, La Roue de la Fortune 10 and La Lune 18, were "inspired by different tarot cards, each with a distinct identity and represented by a different model, some of them iconic and all of them naked in the advertising".

Le Bateleur 1 (shown above right) ~ the ad features Tyson Ballou, the fragrance has aromatic and aquatic notes, cedar and vetiver.

L’Imperatrice 3 (shown above left) ~ with model Naomi Campbell and notes of watermelon, kiwi, pink cyclamen and musk.

L’Amoureaux 6 ~ represented by Noah Mills, with spices, bergamot, juniper, pink pepper, cardamom, birch leaf, orris, wood and musk.

La Roue de la Fortune 10 ~ the ad shows Eva Herzigova and Fernando Fernandes. The notes include tuberose, gardenia, jasmine, benzoin and patchouli.

La Lune 18 ~ with Claudia Schiffer. The notes feature lily, tuberose, sandalwood, musk, orris and leather.

Look for two more fragrances to join the collection next year.

The D&G Fragrance Anthology scents will be $65 each for 100 ml. (via wwd)

Update: see a review of Le Bateleur 1, L’Imperatrice 3, L’Amoureaux 6, La Roue de la Fortune 10 and La Lune 18.

I like that they are using older women (as in over 24). But honestly, they don’t look nearly their age. I think Naomi (above) is 39 or 40. Amazing, yes, but I guess older models are cool as long as they still look under 30.

oh, and doesn’t it seem like they are doing a Le Labo thing here, with the names and numbers?

Except here presumably they’re numbers from the cards, right?

I actually thought right away of a more high concept version of Marc Jacobs splash, but maybe that’s only because the bottles look the same.

Would love to see the other three ads.

Naomi looks her usual sublime self, while I can hardly recognise Tyson – all that airbrushing and the scary eyebrow waxing makes him look almost anime-like.

By the way, I would hardly associate “watermelon” and “kiwi” with someone like Naomi. ;)

The notes don’t seem to be matched with the ads in any way, in fact, not sure I get what they’re matched with…you’d hardly pick watermelon & kiwi for the kind of powerful woman associated with that Tarot card.

alltheprettythings – HAHA I imagine a watermelon as it is would constitute a deadly enough projectile.

Does tarot have some connection to being nude?

I don’t have high hopes for these, and odds are great that I’ll never smell them, but who knows, one or two could end up being nice. It’s at least a more interesting concept than most.

Perhaps it does in the minds of D&G! I think they should have posed the models like the figures on the cards.

And at least they’re not outrageously priced!

They say they’re not targeting any particular age or sex, but some of them are obviously more feminine & some more masculine just based on the notes.

Oh dear, am I the only one who finds the association between Naomi Campbell and “watermelon” problematic?

(And personally I would have guessed that both Naomi and the Empress would be represented by something stronger, like a chypre or something woodsier or more abstract than a fruity floral. At least an herbacious citrus like Guerlain Imperiale.)

the Noah Mills one sounds decent
but I think they should have chosen Matt Gordon (Paco Rabanne 1 Million commercial) as the model instead because he is hoooottttttt

Presumably they couldn’t hire every hot model to represent only 5 scents.

i’d also believe that Matt can’t take any other fragrance job if he’s the spokesperson for Rabanne. imagine one model for several brands! chaos!

all depends on what his contract says. If it says “noncompete” then he had best not compete.

Have to say that none of them are grabbing me based on the descriptions, but of course they might turn out to be wonderful.

None of these sound particularly interesting, but I would buy them all if they would extend Tyson’s shot downwards just a little more…naughty!

YUMMY! I think it’s being highly overthought, the whole issue with model and notes and scent… Just let the fragrance be itself and not who is the person chosen to hawk the scent… you never know you might get a whiff of it and immediately SuperAmazon Naomi will spring to mind! they all sound super delicious and i am hoping there will be wide distribution of them! makes my mouth water all of them!

I smelled them at my local Nordstrom. They are all delicious with #3 being my favorite. It’s a sexy, sweet smell without being too juvenile. I couldn’t stop smelling my wrist after I spritzed myself.

I didn’t expect to like any of these, but fortunately forgot what they were by the time I saw them today, lol. 18 got my attention first (even with the tuberose!), but the SA put 1 on a card, and while it started out rather meh, it got spicier as it dried down. Came away w/samples of the two, so we’ll see. Need to revisit 6, which sounds nicest, when my nose isn’t overtired. They weren’t available for sale yet, btw (at least at mine)… they just had testers at this point.
