Styrax? I had to look this up because I had zero idea what they were talking about… the trees have flowers but apparently no frag.
As a plant –styrax benzoin…okay now we’re gettin somewhere.

Okay Weekend a Deauville—must try …..Violette in Love…ehh, that’s a tough call. In general, all PdN’s are a must try…but raspberry, at least in every bodywash, shampoo or lotion is a major no-no for me…..love to eat raspberries, can’t wear the scent–turns bad right away every time.

I don’t usually like raspberry either…but it’s lovely in PdN Balkis. Would certainly give either of these a shot!

I’m with you Daisy. Violette sounds like a sop to the fruity-floral cretin crowd. As for Weekend, another white floral? And what’s so Normandy about those notes? Guess those who like it better grab it though, before oakmoss gets outlawed.

Bear in mind that there’s no reason to assume there’s real oakmoss in there…could be, could be not.

I would guess that as a newly introduced fragrance the formulation would already take into account the new regulations.

and speaking of Oakmoss….anyone try the Soivohle Green Oakmoss Edp ?? Starts out a little sharp, but smooths out nicely. My CEO actually gave it a “nice” and a thumbs up….really, that’s pretty decent praise from him.

I cannot recall anything else from the Deauville smell apart the iode of the sea and the cheap shop fragrances coming out from the shops doors. But Jean-Claude Ellena said that he composed his own reality, didn’t try to imitate it.

Very few geographically-inspired scents go for the realistic approach ;-)

I love Parfums de Nicolai, so will try both if I can get my hands on samples. Also excited to sample the scent she did for MDCI.

Since when have raspberry and blackcurrant been known to shimmer? : – )

well, maybe “squish” and “dribble” didn’t sound as exotic.

Violette in Love = Nikki C in love, I’m sure … can’t wait to try this!! Anything with violet piques my interest. ps, I just found out that Kusmi tea, one of my faves, has violet tea & a new online site. Not affiliated, just good info from one tea lover to another! ;)

No violet (for me of course) approaches SL Bois de Violette. I am its slave.

Ha! Great motto. I myself can’t seem to get enough of those deep spicy roses over incense or woods. Hand me one of those, and I’m ready to jump its bones.

Um, that was probably TMI. Sorry.

Always curious to try PdN, but these are being added to an already long list, and nothing about the description sends them rocketing to the top of my queue.

Any news if she’s releasing a new Eau this summer, or do they do that only every other year?

I’m curious and will certainly try them (love many violets), but there seems to be some negative spell cast between me and Nicolai scents: I try them, I think I love/like them, I buy the 30ml bottle (I own Vanille tonka, Sacrebleu and Le temps d’une fete), I wear them a little bit, I start to find them too sweet or too peppery or too dense. I was planning to try Odalisque on my next trip to London, but I am a little wary.

Oh, that’s a shame! But in that case, I’d be wary too.

I’ve also had good luck with this house. I own Fig Tea and New York and I’d love to give these two a try. The Fig Tea pepper note does seem to shimmer on me; it comes and goes, sometimes I don’t get it at all and sometimes it makes me sneeze (aided by spring allergies). Even the fragrances I wouldn’t wear are interesting.

I haven’t tried nearly as many PdN’s as I want to try. I have some samples waiting for me, and I just, blush, ordered more samples. I looooove Vanille Tonka; it makes me all giddy.

All I’ve heard is that they’re not coming to the US, which is a shame. Wouldn’t be surprised if they’re in the stores in London & Paris.

Tried and fell for Violette yesterday in the Scentbar (Los Angeles). It is definitely more than the sum of its parts, and I coudn’t really smell anything remotely fruity about it. It is a green floral with spicy tinges and a soft, sweet musky drydown. It seems like an offspring of Grey Flannel and No.19–utterly smart and feminine.

Scentbar didn’t have Weekend a Deauville, but it sounds awesome as well!

FYI – There is now a travel sized Violette in Love at Scentbar / Luckyscent that you can get for $45 I think.

Like Asha above I tried and fell for it at Scentbar recently. It’s a wonderful summer violet with a good balance of green to keep it light and there is a hint of raspberry in it – but nothing that would remind you of a bodywash or something.
