Yves Saint Laurent has launched Elle Shocking (aka Elle Eau de Toilette), the latest flanker to 2007's Elle YSL.
Elle Shocking is a lighter version of the original Elle Eau de Parfum (and see also: Elle Intense and Elle Summer), but promises to "break all the rules" of lighter interpretations. The fragrance notes include mandarin, ginger, peony, freesia, jasmine, raspberry, musk, cedar and patchouli.
Yves Saint Laurent Elle Shocking is available in 30, 50 and 90 ml Eau de Toilette. (via beaute-addict)
Other recent launches from Yves Saint Laurent: La Nuit de l’Homme, Baby Doll Magic Honeymoon, Paris Eau de Printemps.
Neither the fragrance nor the ad are particularly shocking.
Have you smelled it already? Or you meant just doesn’t sound shocking (in which case I agree)?
I remember smelling a light Elle version in Sephora … and forgetting the smell. How telling is that? May be another light Elle version though. A colleague wears Elle and it has a nice sillage on her though
No, I only meant to say it doesn’t SEEM shocking. It’s too tame for that. Maybe they used the same agency as Avril Lavigne for her latest I-don’t-wanna-grow-up frag.
That was probably the Elle Summer / Elle Eau Legere thing they did last year, but who knows 🙂
So, will Schiaparelli have something to say about this?
It’s odd — the ads say “elle shocking” but if you go to buy it at YSL or at Marionnaud, it just says “elle eau de toilette”. So the “official” name might just be “elle eau de toilette” and they’re just sneaking the “shocking” concept into the advertising?
Well, the juice is pink, so they’re clearly referencing even if they’re being sneaky about it.
But maybe the audience for this frag doesn’t know about the earlier incarnations of Shocking? Seems likely.
Hey, but something like 75% of new fragrances are pink, aren’t they? Sure seems that way to me 😉
It sure seems that way!
I like pink, but I’d rather perfume had NO added color at all. If they want to make some sort of subliminal association between their fragrance and the color pink—I would invite them to put pink on the label, wrap a pink satin cord around the bottle neck, slip the bottle into a pink drawstring bag….dyes don’t really add to the experience for me, they just add to the risk of getting a stain on a white top.
Oh, and I’d just like to add that I’m not likely to be influenced by the presence of a woman who lacks the rudimentary skill of applying clothing in an appropriate manner. Wait, she couldn’t very well wear a bra because it would show…..because she’s not wearing a SHIRT! Perhaps she was so ‘shocked’ that she forgot to finish getting dressed?
Sorry, I just hate advertisements like this.
it looks like an YSL ad
I’m assuming this was by Juergen Teller, my fav photographer btw
Yeah, it does look like a YSL ad….I just get tired of advertisers promoting the mindset that in order to be beautiful/desirable/cool…..fill in the blank….you need to be almost naked/ready to be naked any second and/or a be a complete slut ready for any deed right now! I know that ‘sex sells’ and is the most commonly used strategy in advertising…just seems like when they are selling products TO WOMEN they could at least TRY to act like they think we’re worth a little more than strictly sexual availability.
I must be extra cranky today…
I guess I’m just always hoping for YSL (and other too) to show a little more imagination, a little more consideration for what women are about.
sigh….ignore me krok…I’m just being a whiner…
I don’t think she looks slutty
Marilyn Monroe showed more skin than all the time but women ~*~*love her*~*~*~. Funny since her pubic image wasn’t exactly very intelligent.
sheesh, I’d hate to say anything against Marilyn Monroe and get people in an uproar, and who knows whether she was intelligent behind her movie persona ….but you are right, it was pretty much all out for public consumption. I think, had she been given a chance, she could have been so much more, as it was the media turned her into a caricature.
that was supposed to be “public” btw
Hey, at least she’s wearing a jacket! We’ve seen way more nudity in perfume advertising 🙂
lol yes, good thing she’s wearing a jacket…I would hate to think she didn’t look professional. (oops! I forgot my jacket….and blouse….and bra….silly me!)
I know, there’s nudity everywhere…it’s just somehow sad.
Got a review of it on my site now. It’s not much different to be honest, but the longevity is decreased.
Thanks, doesn’t sound like something I need to rush out & try.
