Francesco Vezzoli Greed, the film

Posted by Robin on 8 February 2009 16 Comments

I posted about Italian artist Francesco Vezzoli's faux perfume, Greed, a few weeks ago. The exhibit opened at the Gagosian Gallery in Rome on Friday. Below is the the short film shot by Roman Polanski. Starring Natalie Portman and Michelle Williams.

I've never seen the book myself, but Marcello reviewed it:

Hmm, with all those big names involved, I guess I was expecting something more creative than a Dynasty-style catfight. I'd pay to see Polanski spoof the I Am King video, for instance!

Second that, a huge let-down. And the male character of reason at the end, calm and unruffled above the fray! Sexist and dull.

wow. At first it looked like they were lovers (A bit of male fantasy thrown in). Then I thought, “I want this perfume.”

If they actually made a scent with this ad running publicly, I'd have to at least check it out.

I guess I'm with the massive greedy…or is it envy? If they were also eating eclairs in a messy room, it might qualify as all 7 deadly sins.

    Thanks Robin,

    Becca

Lilydale, you know, it's a funny spot but can't disagree — was sort of too obvious, and in the end not as funny as I Am King — they may have thought they were being over the top, but the real ads have outdone them.

Friedchicken, I guess they're allowed to be sexist if they're spoofing regular ads, but dull seems unforgivable.

LOL — that's the funny thing, you could probably sell the perfume.

Well, here's another parody. Do you remember the “Hey, You!” SNL commercial parody? At http://www.nerve.com/dispatches/nerveeditors/50GreatestCommercialParodies/05 (third video down).

have to agree on the dull part…and “I Am King” made me cry, it was so funny!

It's cute, but I think I was expecting a little more, or something at least a few minutes in length. This didn't really offer much more than the “trailer.” Still, cute.

I wonder if a longer version exists? It is really short.
