Daddy Yankee For Men ~ new fragrance

Posted by Robin on 21 October 2008 41 Comments

Daddy Yankee fragrance advertReggaeton artist Daddy Yankee (real name: Ramón Ayala) will launch his debut fragrance this coming November under arrangements with Falic Fashion Group:

"I'm involved with all my projects in all areas," he said. "I worked on the cologne from the beginning through manufacturing. Then, we took more than 100 women to start smelling the cologne and the girls approved it, so I'm pretty sure the girls will like it."

He described the fragrance as "a little citrusy, more 'island,' that represents my Caribbean sense."

The fragrance, a fruity marine fougère, is geared towards Latino men in the 18-30 age group, and features notes of ozonic mist, apple, ginger, basil, sage, cedar, Brazilian red wood, suede and amber.

Daddy Yankee for Men will be available in 50 and 100 ml Eau de Toilette. (quote via cbsnews, additional information via wwd)

Ozonic mist = I don't need any. In fact, you couldn't pick 3 words less likely to attract me than “fruity marine fougère”.

They did the recent Perry Ellis for men also. Pretty sure it's the last name of the owner.

Because of the fragrance or because of Daddy Yankee? I've never heard of him. I keep complaining about the number of UK B-list celebrities w/ fragrances, but with this announcement and the one yesterday about Jesse McCartney, we're apparently getting just as bad.

Daddy Yankee for Men sounds a little…naughty. No?

    (wink)

I love the part where Mr. Yankee assures all of us he was involved in the scent all the way. I'd love for Chandler Burr to cover that in his next book! (giggle)

He was launching a demo and he gave me a copy. i iworked at latina Magazine at the time. IT WAS GASOLINA. My editor hated it. That's quite a story! I, like so many others, really like Gasolina. It gets my head bopping. The ad is a little ridiculous though. He'll probably do very well in Florida.

I'm pretty clueless about him too, but (not to mix perfume & politics) he made some waves recently as a celebrity who “came out” in support of McCain. Ugh.

From the looks of the picture, he personally selected the 100 women, anyway…

Agree with you Robin on fruity marine. Are hot-blooded Latino men really that into ozone and apples?

I think that when they say red wood, they may mean Rose wood as this is a Brazilian wood but I could be wrong as I am no expert on woods! Rosewood is delish so here's hoping!

Just check it out on You tube…it has a great beat and rhythm but the lyrics are typically gross and sexist….

I don't think it's age or class dependent, I think it's just a question of taste.

This was at TJ Maxx for 12 dollars today, and I couldn’t resist. The cap. It has a dogtag chain in it. With a fake plastic diamond on it. You can take the chain out of the cap, or just keep it there for safe-keeping. This is the best thing I’ve ever bought.
