Ormonde Jayne Replenishing Body Lotion in Frangipani Absolute

Posted by Jessica on 18 October 2008 10 Comments

Ormonde Jayne Replenishing Body LotionThe London-based niche perfumery Ormonde Jayne offers a collection of bath and body products, including Essential Bathing Oil, Hydrating Bath & Shower Crème, and Replenishing Body Lotion, to accompany its fragrances. These body products claim to benefit the skin while equaling the elegance and richness of their namesake perfumes.

I’ve tried the Replenishing Body Lotion in Frangipani Absolute, wearing it with Frangipani Absolute Eau de Parfum for the sake of comparison. The compositions for both the Eau de Parfum and the Body Lotion include top notes of linden blossom, magnolia flower, lime peel; a heart of white frangipani, jasmine, rose, tuberose, water lily, plum, green orchid; and a base of amber, musk, cedar, French vanilla.

Frangipani is a tropical flower, but Ormonde Jayne’s interpretation of this blossom definitely connotes “black tie” rather than “spring break”. It’s a sweetly narcotic floral blend, just as much tuberose as frangipani, with a creamy depth. Wearing the Body Lotion, I noticed some slight differences from the original fragrance. The Eau de Parfum has a more noticeable lime note in the opening, and its heart is a bit more delicate, like a handful of fresh, loose petals, with a cedary edge to its base. The fragrance of the Body Lotion, on the other hand, is more linear and gives the impression of an entire, headily scented flower. Worn under the Eau de Parfum, the Body Lotion adds a more substantial, velvety foundation to the fragrance. (It could also be paired beautifully with other white floral fragrances, such as Robert Piguet Fracas or Frederic Malle Carnal Flower.)

The Replenishing Body Lotion’s formula is one of the most truly luxurious that I’ve ever tried: it’s crafted without mineral oils, parabens, or artificial coloring, using vitamin E, shea butter, and water lily extract instead. It glides on smoothly, like a bias-cut satin gown, and it sinks into the skin quickly, leaving a non-greasy finish. I was surprised to notice how smooth my legs still felt at the end of the day; meanwhile, the lotion’s fragrance had lingered well, outlasting the Eau de Parfum that I had more sparingly applied.

Ormonde Jayne Replenishing Body Lotion sells for 300 ml for £34 through the Ormonde Jayne website.

Okay, that sounds heavenly and now I know exactly what I want for Christmas. Hope my family takes my broad hints.

AGH. ARGH. ERGH. *tears hair* My go-to scents are Ormonde, Champaca, and Le Parfum de Therese. Malle's “lait parfume,” pardon my lazy lack of accents, has maintained the scent over three years of occasional use. I did not need to know that OJ is making an exceptional lotion, also, and I am doomed.

Hi Jessica :D always great to read you!

I want it…but I'm quaking. How much is it in U.S. dollars? And do you think it will go with other fragrances, i.e. less expensive?

    Joy,

    Becca

Well duh, I just missed the F.M. and Fracas. Good thing I checked to see if I could make the pound symbol on my keyboard. Would it go with Un Lys? I am ordering it at long last. And do you think it's strong enough on it's own? or did I forget that already…la der. : P

Yes it does! I need a cat scan on my brain. My only worry I just thought of-it isn't too heady is it? Doesn't sound like it but I'm sensitive if it's an overdose of white flowers.

    Thanks for your patience, -Becca…lol

Dissed! Hello. I think Champaca is my second favorite OJ, after Ta'if. (I only own sample sizes, but I love them.) Sorry to be the bearer of this piece of news! Yes, it's dreamy stuff. And don't worry about the accents.

Hi, Becca! Well, I don't usually wear strong white florals; I'm more of a rose/carnation person. F Malle's Lys Mediterranee is one of the white-floral exceptions in my collection, because it's not too heady… and I like OJ's Frangipani and Champaca for the same reason. They have a nice freshness that keeps them wearable for daytime; they're not bombshell scents like Fracas. Hope that helps!

lovely review. I really like the Frangipani fragrance but my favourite Ormonde Jayne is Tolu. This summer I finally bought the Tolu body lotion and it has made my skin wonderfully soft! It is also wonderful layered with other scents like Shalimar and L'Heure Bleue. Will definitely have to try the lotion in some of the other fragrances in the line

Kim, Thank you for your comment! You are an Ormonde Jayne expert! I agree, the lotions are such high quality that they work well with “the classics” as well OJ's own fragrances.
