Jo Malone Sweet Lime & Cedar ~ new fragrance

Posted by Robin on 4 September 2008 49 Comments

Jo Malone Sweet Lime & Cedar cologne fragranceJo Malone has introduced Sweet Lime & Cedar:

Inspired by the diverse flavours of Thai cuisine, this exotic scent balances zesty citrus fruits with aromatic leaves, delicate flowers, fragrant spices and nutty woods.

Let your senses be tantalised by sweet lime combined with delicate hints of jasmine, ylang ylang, coconut, and the vanilla-like tonka bean. As you continue your olfactory journey, the addition of the nutty scent of pandanus leaf, the sweet yet sour character of tamarind and the aromatic warmth of cardamon, complete this unexpected, graceful, harmony.

Jo Malone Sweet Lime & Cedar is available in 30 and 100 ml Cologne; the smaller size is available now at Neiman Marcus. (via jomalone.co.uk) Update: see a review of Jo Malone Sweet Lime & Cedar.

Other recent launches from Jo Malone: Kohdo Wood Collection: Lotus Blossom & Water Lily, Dark Amber & Ginger Lily, White Tie and Tiara.

This is going to be an unsniffed purchase, against my better judgement! Unfortunately Jo Malone will not send sample vials anymore, only sprayed strips, and don't offer a sample buying programme – a real shame when some of us don't have the time to travel the distance to the nearest (far away) counter.

Zippy, I can't remember where you're located? They're certainly still sending sample vials w/ orders in the US, although it's true that you can't buy them separately.

I'm in the UK – the closest counters are London, which are about an hour and half drive one way!

I shouldn't complain, as it's London, but fighting the weekend traffic to get into London is something I like to keep to a minimum and only when I can pack loads of stuff into the day to make it worthwhile.

doesn't it sound great? I'm such a sucker for a good lime scent and I love tamarind – doesn't get used enough, imo.

Hey, I'm reluctant to even drive to my local mall — I understand entirely. I wonder why they send samples here but not there? But you're right, they ought to have a formal “sample program” in any case — I'd be thrilled if I could buy their samples online.

I'm guessing they were having to send way too many out – I do remember a few years ago I asked for one sample and they sent 3 generous vials plus sprayed strips! When pomegranate noir came out, they sent one of those liquid-touch towel samples with the holiday catalogue that year. However, the main London store I emailed definitely said only sprayed samples now (unless the new release coincides with a seasonal catalogue and we are lucky enough to get the liquid towel thing again).

Once again, NST is my source for premiere information – I work for the company and didn't even know about this til reading about it here! But then again, everything takes FOREVER to come to Australia, so…

The notes and description sound good, but I must admit I'm not keen on smelling like Thai cooking.

I've got the Lime Basil & Mandarin, it's great. I'll have to give this a sniff! JM is big on fragrance combining, I wonder what this would pair with??

I LOVE thai food, there's nothing better than a tasty, aromatic thai dish with a cup of thai iced tea. Me & my boyfriend have a trip to our favorite thai restaurant every, single week. Lime and cedar is packed with notes that come from ingredients used in good, thai kitchen. Zesty, tangy, spicy, tasy…. this sounds greaaat!

My local Saks has this tester and I was expecting more lime than cedar but it was the complete opposite. There are a couple of Jo's that I personally can't wear Amber and Lavender (smells a bit on the masculine side and I love it on my hubby), and Pomegranate Noir (unfortunately I don't like this one at all on either of us), so my sa knew I would not like this one. She was right! Although she tried to tell me to layer with WJ and Mint or Nect Blossom but it just didn't work for me. If you like woody cedar this may work for you.

I got a direct mail promo for this (they have got me taped all righty!) and I am on a mission to get hold of a sample before the blinkin' thing is sold out. If Zippy is as zippy as her name suggests, she may beat us all to it.,,

Oh boy. This sounds fantastic to me AS LONG AS the coconut is kept in check! Tara's comment that this is more about cedar than lime gets me even more excited (otherwise I'd probably be satisfied with Lime Basil Mandarin). I may need to stop by my local Saks soon for a sniff (and possible subsequent impulse buy). Thank goodness JM does the 30ml bottles.

I've enjoyed several perfumes from Jo Malone. This sounds very promising. I can't wait to try it. I've been lucky with lasting power with JM, too, and usually my skin eats fragrance like odor eater inserts!

Ok! am a Confirmed Jo Malone FREAK! I just recently purchased Dark Amber and Ginger Lily, (the woman at Saks said that the bottle i purchased of the two that were there was one of the last two IN THE CONUTRY! that the New York Saks had been trying to get their hands on our bottles, so i lucked out with this Precious Jewel of a scent!) and it is seriously Vying for room at the top of my Fragrance Ladder! I have loved Jo Malone for AGES, Wild Fig and Cassis being my Number One favorite fragrance EVER! And this sounds no less exceptional! and for me i hope they OVERDOSE on the coconut, LOVE the smell of it in fragrance, can't get enough of it, and with LIME and ANYTHING Vanilla-y, I am already Hooked! this sounds like the next masterpiece of Jo Malone's i must own, along with Nectarine Blossom and Honey, Blue Agava and Cacao (SO Smoldering and Creamy Delicious!) Pomegranate Noir, And White Jasmine and Mint. Keep Em Coming Jo! I'm a Sucker for them ALL!

Ooh, this does sound lovely. I am very fond of the Jo Malone line. I own Vintage Gardenia, Blue Agava and Cacao, French Lime Blossom and the Ginger and Amber Lily scent. Whenever I use them I am surprised again by how much I enjoy them. Can't wait to try this.

One of the advantages of the line is that you can buy smaller bottles and they are not overpriced – they are more EdT than cologne, I think, so I always feel I'm getting bang for my buck. The lasting power is decent too.

Right – I have just smelt this fragrance and it is… GORGEOUS!

It started off with a really fresh, mouthwatering accord of passion fruit, pomello and kaffir lime (all fresh and juicy), then went through an aromatic Ylang moment before settling into a beautiful warm woody base. All the way through, it stayed clear and yummy. The flagship store in the UK (Sloane street) will be selling this from mid September. I’ve already got my name down on a waiting list! …highly recommended

I managed to get Dark Amber & Ginger Lily 30 ml on UK Ebay and counted myself v lucky to have done so! Sadly the Day one seems to be as rare as hen's teeth, so have to content myself with a trial spray. Those two are my absolute faves, along with Orange Blossom. With this one, from having initial reservations due to the prominence of cedar (I am not too keen on overtly “planky” scents), I have now been whipped up into a lemming frenzy by NoseEager's eager nose and will try to reserve a sample myself!

Vanessa, I am also addicted to the two Kohdo Wood scents and have a strict rationing system to make them last as long as possible. My friend at the Sloane St store told me that both of these fragrances will be making a glorious comeback in the Spring! I wish it was sooner but still, Yay!

A glorious comeback? You mean like Black Cashmere ie “back by public demand”? That would be fab…think what massive sales they have lost by funnelling these two down the limited edition route. Theh only winners are Ebay sellers as matters stand which is crazy. I can probably wait till spring though, given my 8 years+ stocks of perfume in general!

The SA at Bloomies told me no, def. LE, all sold out, etc. But let's face it, they'd be fools not to bring it back, I think they were very popular, and not *just* because folks thought they wouldn't be able to get more!

TNK, if you like the bath oils, try the Blue Agava & Cacao. It's really nice when used as a body moisturizer & mixed with a spritz of Pom Noir.

Nectarine Blossom & Honey is wonderful, and blends well with Jasmine Mint or Lotus Blossom & Water Lilly.

Let's hope that SA isn't in on the decision-making process at JM, LOL…and agree, don't think it was all LE-induced hype. They were a nice bridge between “niche oddity” and “mainstream mass appeal”.

I tried this at Saks this weekend and fell in love. This one develops–a lot of the Malones don't develop. It's wonderful, very little cedar (on me) but a magnificent flowering of lime, tamarind and woods. No coconut that I can discern. I put my name on the list for delivery. Paid more to have to UPS'd to my house. A real lemming for me.

I know not everyone is a blending fan, but I tried it with Amber/Lavender and it is specatacular!
