Jo Malone reintroduces White Tie & Tiara

Posted by Robin on 11 June 2008 14 Comments

Jo Malone White Tie & Tiara 2008This month, Jo Malone will relaunch White Tie and Tiara as a limited edition fragrance:

Introducing White Tie & Tiara, a limited-edition fragrance designed exclusively to support the Elton John AIDS Foundation. Inspired by a unique combination of elegant rose, orange blossom and jasmine, reminiscent of a summer garden, delicate white flowers are enhanced by tantalising hints of lime and orange and perfectly blended with the warmth of cedarwood and sandalwood.

All after-tax profits from the sales of White Tie & Tiara 2008 will be donated to the Elton John AIDS Foundation and used to fund non-profit AIDS projects around the world.

White Tie and Tiara was originally released in 2002 and given as a party gift at Elton John's White Tie and Tiara ball; it was subsequently sold in Jo Malone shops as a limited edition. This summer's version will cost £75 for 100 ml and will be in a limited edition run of 1000 bottles. It is not yet in stock on the UK Jo Malone site and is not shown at all on the US site, so guessing this will be a UK-only scent? (via jomalone.co.uk, found via cosmeticsbusiness)

Interesting, definitely tweaked from the last version, where pineapple was supposed (and certainly listed as) to be a prominent note.

pineapple would certainly change that! It sounds like a lovely light summer frangrance, just like a long list of others, with a lot of prestige because of the difficulty getting it. . . a little cloak and dagger makes it more fun. . .

I don't think it is *necessarily* tweaked…was just reading some 2002 newspaper articles about WTT, and none of them mentioned pineapple, in fact, the old description is virtually identical to this new description. But I've smelled the 2002 version, and you're exactly right — there was lots of pineapple, in fact, all I remember is pineapple & sandalwood.

See below — this might (or might not) be the same pineapple-y thing.

weird! first google search with white tie tiara pineapple came up with this, which adds pineapple to the notes, but a lot of other stuff too!

    From abzmag –

Jo Malone has launched a limited edition cologne White Tie & Tiara this month. The fragrance has been designed exclusively to support the Elton John AIDS Foundation and only 1,000 bottles have been made. Inspired by a summer garden, it contains top notes of cassis, bergamot, mandarin and pineapple; mid notes of violet, kharismal, red berry and green notes; and a base of cedar, amber and spicy notes. The White Tie & Tiara cologne is priced £75 for a 100ml bottle; all after-tax profits from the sales will be donated to the charity and used to fund non-profit AIDS projects around the world.

So they gave another list of notes to the press, then, not unusual at all (and I'm not “press”, LOL). I'm sure it's the same thing or nearly the same thing.

I don't I've yet tried a pineapple frag, might just give this a sniff to see. Lately, I really bring up the fruity note in some frags, like the new Hermes scent. So we'll have to see.

I adore L'Artisan Ananas Fizz, but most other pineapple scents don't work for me. Jean Patou Colony is a “classic” pineapple if you should want one :-)

Thanks for the suggestion of JP Colony, I love Patou's scents, especially Eau de Patou.. Must try to get a whiff :)

OH MY! this sounds like it will smell Utterly YUMMY! I am a TOTAL Addict for anything Jo Malone, (the new Lotus and Ginger Fragrance ROCKS!!!) and i will have to lay hands on this becuase it is for a good cause and because I adore Sir Elton Too! just one thing, I am kinda disappointed if this version omits the Pineapple note, I firts fell in love with pineapple in fragrance with CK One and have found it remarkably underused in fragrances, it adds a Sensual Fruitiness that is neither cloying or sickeningly sweet, wish it was used more… if anyone finds out more about Jo Malone WTT and if it will be availiable in the U.S, Please let me know, i am going to do some digging of my own as well! Au Revoir!

This has been relaunched for 2010, with the notes slightly tweaked:

“Inspired by the beautiful White Scented Garden at Sir Elton John and David Furnish’s Windsor home, and named after the White Tie & Tiara Ball, discover a sparkling, floral fragrance that blends the delicacy of jasmine, orange blossom and white violets with a hint of pineapple and bergamot.”

Maybe they’ve tweaked it, maybe just tweaked the PR? Who knows. Wasn’t a favorite of mine in any case.
