Perfume in the magazines: Allure, September 08

Posted by Robin on 25 August 2008 7 Comments

Allure, September 08Perfume coverage in the September issue of Allure, and please comment on any fragrance coverage you've seen in other fashion & beauty magazines lately:

Cover: Carrie Underwood.

Scent strips: Estee Lauder Sensuous, Ralph Lauren Notorious, Burberry The Beat, Calvin Klein Euphoria, Jessica Simpson Fancy.

Editorial coverage: The Beauty Reporter section includes a "Smell This" feature in which random passersby comment on the new Lancome Magnifique (p. 94), a short piece on Christina Aguilera Inspire (p. 96) and another "Smell This" for the men (Christian Lacroix Noir and Versace Pour Homme, p. 102). Also on p. 102, Josh Holloway, the face of Davidoff Cool Water, reveals that he wore Grey Flannel in high school.

A piece called Fall Hot List, starting on p. 110, includes picks from "seven stylish women", four of whom included a fragrance: Iman chose Robert Piguet Fracas, Jade Jagger chose Jo Malone Pomegranate Noir, Alice Temperley chose L'Artisan La Chasse aux Papillons, Anja Rubik chose Laura Mercier Ambre Passion.

Frederic Malle has a page on Fall Review (p. 157), with blurbs on Fall Florals (Lalique Amethyst), Urban Scents (Jo Malone Dark Amber & Ginger Lily, Creed Love in Black), Warm & Wintry (Estee Lauder Sensuous, Annick Goutal Ambre Fetiche) and Fresh Patchouli (Yves Saint Laurent Elle Intense).

Uncommon Scents (pps. 226-229) explores the recent trend towards unisex fragrances.

What did the passerbys think of Magnifique? Dullness? I haven't really payed attention to a fashion magazine in forever. I pick them up in line and I sneak and peel up the scent strips before the cashier looks at me ugly. I am curious about this piece “Fall Hot List”. Iman and Fracas? I love that fragrance but I don't see Iman with it. Hmm.

I think Jessica's perfume smells like a lighter version of Betsey Johnson's perfume… smelled it at Ulta yesterday. I did not go well with Sensuous either. I love the concept, but it was lost on my skin.

I didn't connect them — will have to try them together!

You remove the scent strips. That really surprises me! I love them. Except the last magazine I bought had a strip of Angel and it about killed me. I don't dislike Angel it was just so overpowering. I just wanted to read frivolous fashion stories, not be Angel-ized.

They never smell “true” to me, and they stink up the magazine!
