Perfume in the magazines: Allure, August 08

Posted by Robin on 22 July 2008 7 Comments

Allure Aug 08I only subscribe to one fashion & beauty magazine, and that's Allure, and the only reason I subscribe at all is for the fragrance coverage. But I tend to let the issues pile up unread, and I thought if I started posting something about each month's fragrance coverage it might encourage me to read them sooner, and better yet, some of you might be willing to chime in with whatever fragrance coverage you've seen in other fashion & beauty magazines lately.

So here's what you can find in the August issue:

Cover: Victoria Beckham, who says "I'm so ordinary".

Scent strips: only 2 this month, for Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue and Marc Jacobs Daisy.

Editorial coverage: The "Beauty Reporter" pages includes pictures of two of the Gwen Stefani Harajuku Lovers scents (p. 62), and gives the collection's website URL, which is hlfragrance.com (not live yet, but you can enter your email address if you want to be told when it goes live). Also a "Smell This" feature in which random passersby comment on the new David Yurman scent (p. 66). Lastly, a short blurb on "Scent Effects" in the "Mood News" column, which talks about the aromatherapeutic effects of lemon and lavender (p.170). The interview with Victoria Beckham includes a very brief discussion of her fragrance line; she reports that she is "really hands-on as a creative director" (p. 226).

Free stuff: They're giving away bottles of Harajuku Lovers (August 1) and David Yurman (August 6); see the website for details.

Unless I missed something, that's it! Slim pickings this month. Please do comment if you saw anything wonderful about perfume in another magazine.

It's been slim pickings about perfume for the past several months in that magazine. I am not happy, and can't think of anything perfume-related that I have read in the other fashion mags.

    Bummer!

    Hugs!

The most fragrance related coverage that I've seen (keeping in mind that I only read Allure & Harper's Bazaar, the latter only bcs I got a free subscription) is in Harper's August issue. Practically all of the editorial content is about Estee Lauder Sensuous, to the point that I almost felt as though the entire issue is a commercial.

Yes, it really has! Wonder what happened to that Frederic Malle column? I wasn't paying enough attention; maybe it wasn't a “regular” thing. It really is a bummer.

I don't know what happened to the man. He's French, so maybe he's on summer break, lol!

haha i don't usually suscribe to magazines for coverage on perfume, i rather go to this blog instead ; )

Unfortuanely, living in Canada, we get the short straw when it comes to makeup and fragrances… everything launches here like 6 months after the american launch or it isn't available in Canada at all! And the harajukus fragrances.. gosh do you know if it debuts in Canada?! *crosses fingers*

We'll all be in the same boat soon enough…more & more scents aren't coming to the US or are coming months after they launch elsewhere.

Sorry I don't know about the Harajukus!
