Jessica Simpson Fancy ~ new perfume

Posted by Robin on 18 July 2008 42 Comments

Jessica Simpson Fancy fragranceJessica Simpson, who as previously reported signed a fragrance deal with Parlux last year, will launch her first fragrance, Fancy Jessica Simpson, next month. According to Simpson...

With Fancy, I wanted to create a pretty fragrance, one that I could be just as comfortable wearing on the red carpet or every day with my favorite jeans.

Ms. Simpson reportedly sought "a retro vintage look" and "a romantic and feminine scent".

The floriental fragrance was developed by perfumer Alexis Dadier, and features notes of pear, apricot nectar, red fruits, gardenia, jasmine, toasted almonds, caramel, sandalwood, vanilla crème and amber crystals.

Fancy Jessica Simpson will be available in 50 and 100 ml Eau de Parfum (first quote via hollyscoop, all additional information via wwd) Update: see a review of Fancy Jessica Simpson.

Wow, only one so far? I guess she can get away with the whole “I just want something I could wear every day” thing. If Jennifer Lopez or Paris Hilton said that, I'm pretty sure our eyes would get stuck in the back of our heads.
The notes don't interest me, but I'd love to know what red fruits they're mixin' in there. Strawberries? Apples? Persimmons?
I think the bottle is rather interesting, but I'll wait for Jessica Simpson Fancy Night, where the bottle is deep purple with silver engraving. ;D
And the ad screams Lovely knock-off, but without the sophistication.

I agree that the ad is trying very hard to echo Lovely, and the name isn't doing a thing for me, either…”Fancy”??

What happened to all those Dessert fragrances she was selling – Buttercream and Banana Split & Lollipop & the like? Did they go away when she got divorced (her hubby appeared in the ads with her)?

Did she learn anything from that failed bath and body line of hers? What was it called, Desserts or Sweet Treats or something? See, it was so memorable I can't remember!

you guys nailed the feeble copy of Lovely, even the name is a knock off.

those sickly sweet “edible” have been d/c'd from what i've seen of them on the lower deep discount shelves of various shops….

*yawns* think i will pass on this

Fancy is one of the worst celeb names I've heard so far.

The Dessert line she did with Randi Shinder (sp?) went under.

This sounds pretty darned edible, doesn't it? It might be the foodiest of the celeb scents this year.

All those ad reps and no one could come up with a name better than “Fancy”??? Bottle's cute – or appears to be from a distance. My guess is it will mimic Simpson herself…cute at a distance, but once you get up close you find there's nothing of interest about it at all. Both 'empty' bottles. Oh my that was snarky wasn't it. Forgive that. Just tired of all these mainstream celeb scents in which most celebs do nothing other than lend their name to.

The bottle looks a lot like Penhaligon's bottles, only squat and gussied up. The stuff inside sounds ungodly sweet. In short, your typical celebriscent. I can't imagine how it could be any good, though quality is never the point of these things.

This actually sounds even sweeter than your average celebriscent, doesn't it? Don't know how young her audience is, but this sounds like it's geared really, really young.

Wasn't the bath and body line from the same entity that is responsible for the CLEAN scents? You're right, Parlux will definitely ensure that Fancy will be out there in a big way!

Guess I'm in the minority about the bottle – I think it's rather ugly. Totally agree about the Lovely rip-off, too. My guess is the juice will smell oh-so-teeny-bopper. Oh well, add it to the list of things she doesn't do well… ;-D

Well, what should we expect.? She made a line of edible body products. Of course, her fragrance is going to be sweet and sugary.
I can't get over how trashy the name “Fancy” is. The first cat I had, I named him Fancy because of those Fancy Feast ads. I thought by naming a cat that, I'd be like royalty and he'd eat out of crystal everyday. But, in reality I was 5 and living in the public housing of Atlanta and he was a scrappy orange tom cat… So, that's how I imagine the name choosing process of this fragrance by Miss Jessica. “Fancy, that it'll mean it's classy, right?”

Yeah, I just can't get over: “With Fancy, I wanted to create a pretty fragrance…”. First of all, celebrities DON'T want anything other than just the fragrance to sell well among their audiences. Also how many times did I hear it, something elegant for a red carpet but comfy like a pair of jeans… pretty, nice, comfy, elegant… anything else? I don't think so. Fancy=trashy

Why, why why?! She should have named it “Fruitcake” You really shouldn't salivate when you hear a (fragrance?) notes. Fancy food in a bottle. Maybe she doesn't really pretend to be dumb. Another disappointment…but the kiddies will-eat it up ;)

Why is everyone dissing her so much?? You all must be jealous of her fame..I personally am looking forward to her new perfume and I am not a teeny-bopper actually. Jessica is a very wise person. She has been through a lot, yet still remains strong. She is one of the only celebs that is true to them self and is not fake. She may have had some silly moments, but haven't we all?? She is just being herself. Nobody is perfect even if they are a celeb. As for the person who said, “Yeah, I just can't get over: “With Fancy, I wanted to create a pretty fragrance…”. First of all, celebrities DON'T want anything other than just the fragrance to sell well among their audiences. Also how many times did I hear it, something elegant for a red carpet but comfy like a pair of jeans… pretty, nice, comfy, elegant… anything else? I don't think so. Fancy=trashy.”, if you were a celeb/ singer whatever, I am sure you would create your own perfume too if you were rich. Your just jealous. If any of you don't like her, or are not looking forward to her perfume, then don't waste your time and comment. Enough said….

I don't see why someone who dislikes JS must of necessity be jealous of her? You like her, which is fine, others don't, which is fine too.

I really like Jessica Simpson. I am certainly not jealous. I am just disappointed and disgusted that it's a ubiquitous *foody* scent. And I like the name Fancy because it's simple and to the point she is trying to impart-Becca

I agree the name was a bad choice, especially when she's trying to sing country. She must have realized that “Fancy” is the name of a Reba McIntire hit about a prostitute…she claims Reba as one of her inspirations.

No matter what this perfume smells like, it will remind me of Fancy, the prostitute in Reba's song. “just be nice to the gentlemen, Fancy, and they'll be nice to you”

So she's really trying to break into the country market? I wonder why, if she already has an established audience.
