Giorgio Armani Emporio Armani Diamonds for Men, Prada Infusion d'Homme ~ new fragrances

Posted by Robin on 20 June 2008 44 Comments

Emporio Armani Diamonds For Men cologneGiorgio Armani will launch the masculine counterpart to 2007's Emporio Armani Diamonds For Women this August. Emporio Armani Diamonds for Men aims for a young audience, and is fronted by actor Josh Hartnett.

The woody gourmand fragrance was developed by perfumer Jacques Cavallier and features notes of bergamot, gaïac, cedarwoods, vetiver, Szechuan pepper, cocoa and ambroxan.

Emporio Armani Diamonds for Men will be available in 30, 50 and 75 ml Eau de Toilette and in matching grooming products. Update: see a review of Emporio Armani Diamonds for men.

Prada Infusion d'Homme fragrance

Prada, meanwhile, is working on the masculine counterpart to 2007's Infusion d'Iris For Women. Their new fragrance for men, Infusion d'Homme, will debut in September.

Like Infusion d'Iris, Infusion d'Homme was developed by perfumer Daniela Andrier and "works closely with the body to create a subtle yet distinctive scent". The notes include Tunisian neroli, iris pallida, vetiver, cedarwood, incense and benzoin.

Prada Infusion d'Homme will be available in 50, 100, 200, 500 and 765 ml Eau de Toilette and in matching grooming products. (both above via wwd) Update: see a review of Prada Infusion d'Homme.

It's hard to tell from the ad, but it looks like Diamonds for Men is fronted by Josh Harnett in a skeet mustache. He looks like he belongs in Donnie Brasco. Have to say I normally enjoy him, even considering his complete lack of ability in the acting department.

I don't know his acting at all, but as I said when they announced he'd be the face for this scent, he does nada for me in the looks department at all, mustache or no mustache. I just don't get it :-)

Prada Infusion d'Homme will have all my attention!

I was not very impressed by Diamonds for women and the bottle is a plain ugly cheap piece of glasswork. So Diamonds for men..? ..we will see ^

Robin, LOL, you just don't go for the goofy lookers! JT, gangly Josh Harnett… (shakes head). Have to admit that I prefer Johnny Depp – with the Bracso mustache or no – as well. :)

That's a real shame. Josh Hartnett has never been what I'd call good-looking (he's not ugly, certainly, but he always so uninteresting) but he looks like a dark-haired John Galliano. I love Galliano (mostly) but he's always looked a bit off-putting. Hartnett just looks creepy, without Galliano's whimsy.

And Diamond bored me (mmm mmm lychee). I'm not expecting anything really different for the men's version, though Szechuan pepper sounds kinda interesting. Bottle is –another Dior reference– Dior Addict Homme. 'Nuff said.

I never did get around to putting Infusion d'Iris on to sample it. I'd like to see how d'Homme turns out.

How big is 765ml? I can't imagine it having a sprayer and I'd be scared to handle a splash bottle that big, never mind how rancid it would end up due to air exposure by the time I got half-way through it. That just seems like a bad idea. I think it'd be neat to have a Caron-esque urn with a tap. Still… that's too much. I can only imagine you'd try to make decants for everyone in the continental US with that much juice. Or try to bathe in it.

*And confused; Josh Hartnett almost always looks confused.

Now that I will dispute — in general I think I prefer the goofy lookers. But will have to think of my proof, LOL…Depp certainly doesn't qualify.

I didn't much care for the women's either, although it's perfectly pleasant.

Hmm Josh in the ad is doing NOTHING at all for me. And the moustache thing going on = *ill*. The bottle's kinda plain too, compared to the women's.

But Prada Infusion d'Homme? OMG where do I sign up?! Such exciting and welcome news!

Josh Hartnett????? WTF??? What A Bad Choice for the ads… he looks like a 70's porn star in this ad and whomever said he was a Magnificently BAD actor wasn't just Whistling Dixie! Although I was very much wanting to hate Diamonds for Women it grew on me almost immediately, Love the Verve and Fruitiness of it wrapped in a sophisticated dry down, Giorgio didn't sacrifice Complexity for Youthful fruitiness and it works REALLY REALLY Well!! the Bottle is Kinda Comic in it's Over the Top Cheekiness, but It's Playful and obviously he wasn't going for Utter sophistication, it was a Romp!

saying all that, Diamonds for Does have me intrigued!!! love the Juxtaposition of elements in this Juice… Ambroxan and Szechaun Peppercorn with Bergamot and Cocoa!?!?!?!?! I NEED TO SMELL THIS! how this translates into the idea of DIAMONDS, I don't really know, but it surely seems like it will break some new fragrance ground! and if not… maybe it will be like it's female counterpart and be something of a romp and nothing to take seriously and just wear to smell Fab!

Now, Infusion D'Homme… THAT'S THE STUFF! I melted at first smell of Prada Femme and Homme and the same happened for Infusion D'Iris, Never had I smelled anything so Unique and Sensuously FRESH and the simplicity of the scent that developed into something some much more far reachingly complex… HOT DIGGITY! hope the Men's version lives up to the same Persona as the Womens version! and i would GLEEFULLY Buy the huge 765 ML Bottle. If it smells anything like i expect i would be done with that bottle in a couple months, EASY!!!!!!!!!

HA, I actually knew that. Except — he did back when he was playing Bertie Wooster, and I liked him even then.

But what about Alan Rickman? And I know there are others, they just aren't coming to me now (probably because you're all talking about Johnny Depp & Hugh Laurie & whatnot).

Haha! If it'll be as soft and close to the skin as I. d'Iris it makes sense selling it in flacons the EU standard size of water bottles.

I'm seriously looking foreward to this one!!! I loved I. d'Iris although, Robin, specialist on artificial muscs: don't you think there is a little of that supertruper whatdidyoucallitagain musk in it? I sprayed it on my skarf and he musky base note – which smelled like the one you suspected in Omnia – lasted for ages.

I'm pretty sure the 70s porn star look is actually intentional. It's been quite a mainstream trend for years now (see Tarantino or Terry Richardson's photography). I think the moustache adds interest to a somehow too perfect smile….my comment on JH. i think he's OK in Sophia Coppola's “The Virgin Suicides”.

I love the Pradas, too. But regarding Armani, generally I think in 15 years we'll look back to the gourmand decade in perfumery, and about anything foody we'll go “that's smells so 2005”. Any new releases without a gourmand aspect?

And yes, I agree on the Diamonds bottle. I find it almost manga-like. I heard so many say how ugly it was, but I think that's the retro faction.

Yes, probably. But not as strong as in Omnia, I think. But you know I'm entirely not an expert on artificial musks, LOL…in fact, I'm working on forgetting what the few I know even smell like. I'd seriously rather not be able to pick them out — it's annoying.

I did not see that movie! This sort of looked like a really cheap version of the advertising for D&G The One, although not sure why — and JH can't stand up to MM.

It is true there are lots of foody notes, but on the men's side, everything is so darned FRESH. That, to me, will be what makes things smell dated 10 years from now.

I found the foody, powdery trend on the men's market (Dior pH, Arpège pH, Jil Sander, Gaultier, PacoR, Extè, Chanel, CK Man, Prada, Burberry London, …etc.) more typical for these years (especially since the Iris thing took off) than a fresh trend. And even since around 2000 with Bulgari Black and Marc Jacobs. Maybe it's a different tendency in the States? Or maybe I am generalising too much and one could list as many fresh men's scent as this from recent years…

I guess you're refering to the ozonic, fruity freshness. There must be a parallel trend then which I am subconsciously ignoring ;) I would have thought this was more a 1990s phenomenon which some brands never got over.

I know what you mean! This Iso Super E always annoys me a bit whenever I (think I) recognise it. Sure, in the Prada it's used with consideration.

No, you probably know better than I — I don't pay nearly as much attention to the men's side as I do to the women's, and I don't smell as many of them either. And you're right that it started in the 1990s. I've just been very struck this year by how many brands use the word “fresh” in their press materials, and at how often Kevin's reviews sound like he is describing the same fresh scent over & over again.

What a surprise, although the add is not in my taste I was surprised about how good this scent is, like the previous Emporio's you have it without feeling it, but everybody is telling mmmmmm what a great parfume you have. Sweet but not like A*Man, Cocoa note is the dominant, really a good thing. Now available at La Rinascente Duomo and Armani stores in Milano. Robin, send me the address and I will post you a sample.

As for Infusion D'Homme, WOW, not my kind of parfume, but yet again a perfume that is going to be a best seller. Crisp, tender, Iris and not only, nice, very well made. My English is not so good to explane the pyramid, but it is a good one and only the bottle and the style is similar to the Infusion D'Iris, for the rest is another story, a very classy one with the Prada trade mark.

    Savo, Milano

I still haven't tried the Armani, but liked the Prada — although we had the opposite reaction — I thought it was very like the women's. Haven't tried them at the same time yet though!

I got an advance bottle and my 9 yr old son is loving it. It smells quite good on him – powdery, clean. I think it'll be an easy cross-sell for women; I've worn it myself and prefer it to the women's.

I have a rather silly question.
There are the Giorgio Armani fragrances then there are the Emporio Armani fragrances. What is the difference between the two?
By the way, Diamonds just leaves me feeling sort of…meh.

Emporio is the younger line of the fashion label (one out of some six lines). So THEORETICALLY the Emporio fragrances focus on a younger customer group while you'd expect the more “luxury” high-end Giorgio Armani fragrances to be created to be more timeless… same with Dolce & Gabbana / D&G, or Prada / Miu Miu (no fragrance yet), Hugo Boss & Hugo etc. pp.
