A none-too-subtle image of masculinity

Posted by Robin on 11 June 2008 12 Comments

The drawings of topless men started appearing next to lamp posts, bollards and pipes in San Francisco earlier this month.

Others have appeared in the Marais area of Paris.

The posters have been arranged with the street furniture to leave passers-by with a none-too-subtle image of masculinity.

— From Gay artwork attached to lamp posts and pipes, about the street advertising for Etat Libre d'Orange's Tom of Finland fragrance. In the UK Telegraph, found via Gawker (and do see Gawker's illustration).

Funny! Certainly not my version of attractive but funny. I was going to go all 'ewww' on the Tom Ford/BUTT photo…then I realized I am not their target market (but 'ewww' just the same:-)

ps. in an exhaustive frenzy of bidding and wrestling with steel suppliers I lost two days. I'm stunned (and dismayed) to find it's only Wednesday, instead of the Friday that I'd fantasized about. Any suggestions for a day-brightening fragrance?

Ha, it cracked me up too!

My day brightening, isn't it Friday yet fragrance is probably Ormonde Jayne Osmanthus. Or Hermes Osmanthe Yunnan? Both such happy fragrances. Or Annick Goutal Folavril, or PdN Eau Exotique. Wow, that is an obscure group, isn't it?

No, it's perfect! I'll do the OY today – thanks! I feel like I've fallen down the rabbit hole – and not in a good way – but now that we got the job we bid on I can celebrate with a little Hermessence! Numbers exhaust me, which is insane, since I do all the bidding for our company.

Time to Man UP about it, I guess!:-), though I'd really just like to go back to bed.

    xo

Hey, if you got the job, you deserve another new Hermessence, LOL…numbers exhaust me too, so I can only imagine. Hope the rest of the week is way better!

I tried to post this on POL yesterday, and the post got deleted for inappropriate sexual imagery. I think it's more funny/stupid than sexual, but go figure. I mean, it's a cheap visual pun–haven't we seen much worse from Tom Ford anyway? And let's not forget the etat libre names themselves…

LOL — I suppose it is inappropriate sexual imagery, but agree it's more funny/stupid than sexual.

How about Jo Malone's White Jasmine & Mint or Chanel's Christalle, in EDT?

Come to think of it, I haven't wandered around and explored the Castro in a while. They do have a few scent/soap stores in the neighboorhood! I'll check things out…. :)
