Avon Bond Girl 007, Gres Cabotine Delight ~ new perfumes

Posted by Robin on 26 May 2008 25 Comments

Avon Bond Girl

Next up from Avon: Bond Girl 007, a fragrance produced in "collaboration with the James Bond entertainment franchise". The scent will debut this fall in conjunction with the upcoming Bond movie Quantum of Solace, and will be fronted by actress Gemma Arterton (who plays Agent Fields in the movie). An Avon spokesperson noted that "the iconic Bond girls are one of the most widely known aspects of the films -- they're empowered, feminine and glamorous, so we're extremely pleased to capture that essence in our newest fragrance".

Bond Girl 007 is "a sexy cocktail of velvety florals, cool freshness and warm woods"; the notes include white peach, orange blossom, jasmine, calypso orchid, freesia, amber, cashmere wood and patchouli. The bottle is meant to recall a woman's body; the cap is meant to be "a stealthy homage to a Bond spy gadget".

Avon Bond Girl 007 will be available in 50 ml Eau de Parfum. (quotes via media.prnewswire, additional information via wwd) Update: see a review of Avon Bond Girl 007.

Other recent launches from Avon: Today Tomorrow Always In Love, Cynthia Rowley Flower & Petal, True Glow, U by Ungaro.

Gres Cabotine DelightParfums Grès has launched Cabotine Delight, a limited edition flanker to 1990's Cabotine fragrance for women. The fruity floral scent, developed by perfumer Richard Ibanez, is "described as juicy, delicious and sophisticated".

The notes include mandarin, grapefruit, black currant, green apple, peach, carnation, jasmine, ylang ylang, tuberose, cedar, sandalwood, amber and musk.

Grès Cabotine Delight is available in 50 ml Eau de Toilette. (via moodiereport, cosma-parfumeries)

I think Avon would sell more if they just went ahead and called it “Octopussy.” Come on, you know you'd at least be curious.

I believe they've made a multi-year deal, so Octopussy could be not far behind!

    Would it be tuberose-based? 😉

I am kind of secretly curious about this one, though. I've always wanted to be Vesper Lynd. .

I misread the Avon spokesperson's comment on the Bond girls as “endowed” instead of “empowered.” Close enough.
I think I wore a Cabotine a looooong time ago, but it sure didn't have any apple in it, or I'd still be running.

Uh, endowed is probably more accurate that empowered, right?

I will not bother to be curious since I never get to smell any of the Avons 😉

I think what a Bond girl smells like should be left to one's imagination. To put a name on it somehow takes away the magic. I remember last year there was a flurry of postings to decipher what was Vesper's cologne bottle. It should be at least something as exotic as Santa Maria Novella, at least it derived its origin from the set location. This is too sad, actually. Will we be seeing the Avon product placement onscreen? What exactly is that Bond gadget being paid homage to, I can't figure that one out. Meh, I hate it already, bottle looks like duckpin bowling pin.

Every time I look at that 007 ad, I'm struck by how neat Gemma Arterton's hairline is! Is it real, or is it Photoshopped? The bottle looks like one of those new-fangled energy-saving lightbulbs to me (have these been inflicted on the US yet? The long, thin ones that give out what to me is a sickly pinkish light? Apparently the ordinary ones will be phased out in favour of these new ones in the UK, which I find deeply depressing.)

The idea of a Bond Girl scent seems so very marketable that I can't imagine why it hasn't been done before. I can see myself, in my younger, wilder, days, soaking in the shocked expressions when I announced that my scent was “PussyGalore”. lol

Aha, I remember those discussions but not what the outcome was. Was it an SMN?

And hadn't thought about it, but a scent for Vesper would bother me. This doesn't, don't know why. Maybe I expect Bond movies to be rife w/ product placement & the like?

So true, in fact, it is surprising how few movie/perfume collaborations there are.

Agreed, Robin. Wouldn't the film Amelie have suited a fragrance launch perfectly? Audrey Tatou (she's actually the new face for. . .? posted recently here), Montmartre, a little accordian music for the commercial. . .it all adds up quite charmingly, don't you think?

Yes, perfect! And she is the new face for Chanel no. 5 (which would be all wrong for Amelie)

In “On Her Majesty's Secret Service” (the movie in which James Bond gets married), he shows that he knows perfume. As the Bond Girl (Tracy) walks past him, he states under his breath “isn't Le Blue a bit heady for that?” after she tells him that she is there for a business transaction. Don't think there are other perfume notes in any of the other Bonds…not sure what I think about an Avon and Bond Girl link.

Avon debuts a shocking amount of fragrances every year. I have been an rep on and off for about 5 years and it's terribly hard to keep up with all tghe new frags-and that's actually the source of much complaint on the rep blogs.. This year alone, they've debuted Flower, Petal, TrueGlow, Wish of Love, Wish of Peace, Wish of Happiness, pure and a new Instant Vacation. And this is all on the heels of Imari Seduction and Rouge at the tail end of '07. The sad thing is that none of the perfumes, to me, with the exception of pure, are interesting enough to own. I would rather Avon confine themselves to one or two launches a year and really put the money into making those launches a GREAT frag. This new Bond Girl one makes me laugh to the point I doubt I'll even smell it, “What are you wearing?” “Bond Girl” It sounds like you're either wearing a cheap knockoff of one of the Bond No 9's or you are trying too hard. However, my vote is for 'Octopussy” as well!! 🙂

It really seems like a dizzying stream of new product…but they're hardly the only ones releasing huge numbers of new fragrances. Too bad none of them are any good….I really never get to try any of them so I've no opinion.

Snarky,snarky,snarky..tsk,tsk. The fragrance sounds really nice if they don't push the peach and go bottom heavy on the patchouli. *But* Pussygaolore, though, would have all the men thinking that that's what they'd get get-very funny. The porn industry should come up (excuse the pun) some frags, like…oh I just can't say it…but want to.

    -dirty lil' me

I have an actual Avon store near me and I went and got a couple of the little towelettes that serve as samples. I stuck it on today and it is already gone after only a few hours. Stays very close to the skin and kind of reminds me of how I remember Sensuous (which I have only sniffed once). Not bad, but nothing to write home about. If it goes on sale at some point I may pick some up for a cheap thrill.

They have some samples of newer fragrances in these little packets that have a moistened scrap of this kind of meshy tissue. It holds enough to wipe around on your wrists, so it is better than a paper or one of those drop-of-liquid-in-foil things. I snatched a couple of the Bond Girl and a True Glow. They also had purse sprays for $4.33 so I semi-blindly chose a few as I got overwhelmed really fast. Their scents are pretty pew-y for the most part – Bond Girl is okay, and the Imari Seduction is kind of their version of Angel but more plummy and fairly wearable.

I miss my To a Wild Rose, the Avon scent I loved as a kid. I'm sure it was horrible but to me it was dreamy and kind of old-fashioned.

I don't know about other product samples – it was a little weird in there – lots of floor space with minimal decor so it looks like they don't have anything, even though they do.

Thanks. I hate those little towelette thingies, but I guess they're better than nothing.
