An intense posh sensation

Posted by Robin on 15 April 2008 12 Comments

We’ve taken the rich leather scent from our Premium Economy cabin and created an unparalleled luxury fragrance for an intense posh sensation that will evoke the blissful travel experience of Virgin Atlantic Premium Economy.

— Virgin Atlantic spokesperson Nick Larkworthy on the airline's new fragrance, Le Cuir. Read more (and watch the video) at Virgin release new fragrance: Le Cuir - The Essence of Leather (link no longer working, sorry!) at LiveNews.

Yeah, everyone wants to remember the experience of air travel.

Hmm. Well much as I like Virgin Atlantic planes (I'm a plane geek I admit), and I'm not averse to leathery fragrances I'm not sure I'd actually want to smell like the interior of a A340 or 747.

Well after a number of delayed flights or even a cancelled flight, xtra added scents don't do it for me anymore..

Did he really use the word 'posh? Tsk, he hasn't got the hang of perfume ad copy has he? And leather isn't really what springs to mind when you think of airline travel – aviation fuel, blue loo fluid, fishorchicken warming in the galley, lashings of Dior Addict on the flight attendants…that's plane travel for me! Still, since the Virgin trolley dollies will probably be under contract to wear Le Cuir at all times, doubtless it will come to BE the smell of Virgin travel. And it'll be aspirational! Perhaps you can't afford to travel Premier Economy, but at least you'll be able to smell as if you can!

Nope, he doesn't. He should have read the release for Lancome Peut Etre, LOL…

Guerlain's Vol de Nuit doesn't smell like air travel (though, Le Cuir, it smells of leather), but it was meant to evoke aviation back when it was still new and modern and genuinely posh; it was created in 1933, the same year as Air France.

I meant to say “like Le Cuir, it smells of leather” up there. Drat this not being able to edit your own comments! And drat my fast fingers!

I am assuming Virgin Air isn't quite posh enough to hand out Guerlain perfumes to their passengers, LOL…although didn't really understand from the video if Le Cuir was a freebie or if they were just handing out samples or what.

Thank you! What on earth was he thinking? Who wants to smell like Economy? (“oooh, baby! You smell just like Wal-Mart!!! c'mere..)…

besides, when I read 'posh' I immediately thought of Victoria Beckham and I've had just about enough of Miss P, thank you (okay, I'm just jealous because she owns all those Birkin bags:-)
