Not sure if I'd be interested in a 'lighter' version of Hypnôse Homme. I love HH for its relative richness in the top notes and the warmth of the base.
HA, but if a scent sells, you can bet you'll see the Light version within a year, whether you like it or not 😉
R, how do you like HH? I'm still undecided if I like it or not.
HH was one of my favorite fragrance finds of last year and definitely NOT the typical men's “fresh marine musk”. I really love it. I do hope you've finally gotten to sample it, R, even though you've mentioned amber & lavender isn't your favorite combination.
Not sure how I feel about the idea of “eau fraîche” version (flankers everywhere…), but I'll certainly try it — I could see where the original might be a bit heavy for places where the summer is very hot, and if “fresh” means an extra infusion of citrus (lemon would be fantastic), it could very well be quite nice.
You know, I still haven't worn it on skin, but I did give it another quick try on a card and have to say: not for me. In general, I haven't liked anything recent from Lancome.
See above, I did give it a really quick second sniff but not on skin. Still, I'd be shocked if I liked it even on skin, it just isn't me at all, in fact, not sure there is anything much you could do w/ a new ambery-marine musk that would impress me.
Hey, I think it's great when something DOESN'T tempt me — the fewer items on my “cravings” list, the better. However, I think my comment was misinterpreted — nothing “marine musky” about this one, IMO (unlike most new men's scents) — just pure herbal-amber, which in itself makes it somewhat unique among a lot of mass-market product.
LOL — well see, that tells you how much it didn't grab me — if you told me it was an ambery-*anything*, I'd believe you! Ambery is all I remember. So agree on the fewer the better 🙂
I'm with you, Joe! I've loved wearing the original HH — to me, all bright herbs and rich, smooth woods, very androgynous; if you're a woman who likes to wear CdG 2 Man, you could easily find this one lovely, and much easier to find — and if there's something lighter and more citrusy for warm weather, what could be nicer? I just read about Shalimar Light — or was it Legere?? Or Eau?? — which is a lighter and more citrusy take on the original, so if that flanker's legit, can't this one be, too? I get terribly confused by what's PC (perfumistically correct) at the moment, as it really does seem to be a field with moving goal posts.
The Lancome department took all our stock! lol I'll have to take it back today to Fragrance, and try the new Fresh. Thanks for everyone's reviews. (I work at Nordies).
“Perfumistically correct” made me smile. I find myself concerned with that as well, but when those scientists generate that black hole that devours the earth next week, it really won't matter if what I'm wearing is PC or not, now will it?

Zackly!! I must keep your wise words in mind, Exi: it really won't matter post-black-hole, so we've just got to love what we love with wild abandon. And there's SO much out there to love, as my poor, scrawny wallet will attest.
You are very kind. 🙂
Ditto!
Can't comment on the scent, but I love that Hypnose bottle. You can hold on to that bottle.
True!
Ahh was wondering how long it'd take Lancome to bring out a “fresher” Hypnôse Homme.
They're right on schedule!
I actually found a bottle of Hypnose Eau Fraiche today at a local TJ Maxx for the cheap.
I can easily say that the citrus is buried deep in there, and I grow blood oranges, lemons, grapefruit and limes and it’s like they sampled the actual wood and not the zest (as much). It’s a ton lighter than the original, which for me is a plus.
The longevity is actually great. I’m on the other side of 8 hours and I can still smell it, it’s not bright at all. And the drydown is very intimate and the oakmoss starts to really kick it up a notch with the added citrus in tow.
This is an odd scent though. It twists and turns to make a final good turn on my skin. The original scent turned very bitter and powdery on my skin whereas this – like most citrus scents (they love me) – turns fresh and woodsy/musky but just smells great on my skin. On a card though, I would have never guessed.
Funny seeing this one go straight to the discount stores though. A real surprise locating this today of all days.
They released Hypnose Homme Cologne this year, and guessing that “replaces” the Homme Eau Fraiche. Glad you found a cheap winner!
