Posted by Robin on 4 March 2008 43 Comments

Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess fragrance line

This month, Estee Lauder will introduce Bronze Goddess, a new limited edition summer fragrance:

This summer experience the seductive scent of summer with a luscious fragrance that makes every woman feel divine. Inspired by a luxuriant tropical beach under the constant heat of the sun, Bronze Goddess is built around a creamy heart of golden Amber that emanates pure summer.

The fragrance notes include coconut milk, sandalwood, vanilla, vetiver, myrrh, amber, mandarin, bergamot, lemon, orange, tiare flower, jasmine, magnolia, orange blossom and lavender.

Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess is available in 100 ml Eau Fraiche ($49.50), 100 ml Body Oil ($29.50) and 200 ml Luminous Body Lotion ($29.50). It is available now at some Estee Lauder counters and should be online shortly. (via press release from Estee Lauder)

Okay, I tried this yesterday and it was sooooo good. Better than the blue one Tom Ford did. This screams tropical getaway. I found the dry body oil a little too much, it turned the fragrance a bit. Will be buying the spray and lotion very soon;-)

hmm. I guess this means no more Tom Ford AS? Notes are too similiar – I can't see them releasing 2 scents so obviously in the same vein that weren't some sort of flanker.

It is all personal taste, of course, but think I'm going to like the TF Azuree Soleil better — but have only given BG a very quick sniff so far. At any rate, since TFAS is a goner, glad to see EL replace it with something like.

I think they have a whole Bronze Goddess line of bronzers & whatnot already? So perhaps they wanted to tie into that.

Is it sweet? The notes sound good to me, but I don't do sweet very well. Thanks.

I'm so excited about this one. Azuree Soleil was my guilty pleasure last summer, it had a salty breeze to it. I was hoping that Estee Lauder would just relaunch it. Bronze Goddess sounds nice if you can ignore the lame name. I'm more of an Alabaster Goddess in reality.

I'd rather say I'm wearing “Bronze Goddess” than “Very Irresistible Summer Cocktail” or worse–“Supermodel.” ;P

Amber? Vanilla? Tiare flower? Jasmine AND Myrrh? Doesn't sound like MY ideal summer smell. Sounds like a floral blanket of self asphyxiation. Way too heavy for me. Give me those light, herbal summer smells and be verrrrrry careful with the coconut.

I forgot to try this today.

OT: when I'm wearing a fragrance that has a ridiculous name, I refer to it by the House (i.e., Givenchy). I think most perfume names are ridiculous anyway.

Don't know if you were asking me, but no, not very sweet at all for a tropical beachy thing.

Karin, I seriously doubt he will do one that competes w/ this — I mean, his brand is under Estee Lauder.

As for me, I cannot wait to try this… I really liked Azuree Soleil so much that I hoarded the last few ounces I had left because I heard EL discontinued it. I also have half a bottle of the body oil left too… Both AS and the Bronze Goddess bottles are cool and simple. Perfect for summer… I doubt that this will be a heavy fragrance as its an eau fraiche just like AS.

Wonder if these will available in CZ. Only recently found a bottle of Azuree Soleil in NL. Did not reallyke A S but will keep an open mind to Bronze Goddess.

This sounds really lovely – except for the coconut which i enjoy as a flavor but not as a fragrance. Still, definitely worth a try – and as I don't usually do “tropical” scents I'm very glad I read your review first!

How has your body oil held up? Mine is almost scentless, and I bought it less than a year ago. I hate these gel formulas, they always lose their smell.

Looks like I'm wrong on this…Estee Lauder backs his Tom Ford fragrance collection, which includes Black Orchid and Black Orchid Voile de Fleur. I thought these were separate from EL…oh well!

    Terrific hedge!!! Thanks, bartamy.

(Bronze Goddess: I'm not even Alabaster Goddess. I am pasty, freckly, soft-in-the-tummy, ripple-thighed, frequently sunburned, mere mortal. I guess a fragrance name that described me better wouldn't exactly fly off the shelves. Sigh.)

I haven't tried my body oil in quite sometime…. I will try it tonight and let you know. That would be very disappointing if the smell is not the same… ; ((

They had a short term deal where he would launch products under the EL brand name (Youth Dew Amber Nude, Azuree Soleil, etc), then he was to start his own line. Youth Dew Amber Nude also seems to have been pulled from the market, or so I'm told (haven't checked), so I assume now he'll concentrate on his own brand.

Let me know. I don't know if it is silicone based, but it feels like it is, and I have not had good luck w/ silicone based fragrances — they all lose their smell w/i about a year or so.

I just tried the body oil… It still has some scent left..I keep my frags in my bedroom which is pretty dark. Could that be it? I also spritzed some of the AS eau fraiche on top. Still just have a few precious ounces left!!!

Hmmm, was the Azuree “The Body Oil Spray”, released the year before the Eau Fraiche, also silicone based? It doesn't feel that slippery or thick to me, and mine still has the same scent two years later. Was there a change in the formula after it was rereleased, do you think, R?

Good, glad yours lasted. Mine is in a dark cabinet, so it wasn't that at all. My Eau Fraiche is just fine, just the oil went off.

Erin, I probably wasn't totally clear — I don't know if even last year's was silicone-based. I am surmising it might be because it didn't feel “oily” and also because mine lost its scent, and that always seems to happen to me w/ silicone-based fragrance products. The earlier AS I only tried very quickly in a store, and can't even remember the consistency. So I'm little help!

You've already had plenty of comments about the lame name, but all Bronze Goddess makes me think of are those leathery types of women of a certain age who've gotten way too much sun exposure. I'm feeling like that “bronze” aesthetic is definitely more “out” than “in” these days (certainly a good thing for health reasons!).

LOL — I can see the “leathery types” reference. Don't know that bronze is totally out as of yet….most of the celebs on the red carpet still look bronzed, even if only artificially. But maybe we'll get there yet…

If you have outlet malls near and can get to one, check for a store named The Cosmetic Company. They carry a LOT of EL items and I've had luck finding all kinds of stuff there.

I don't particularly like coconut in a scent but it is very nice in here. It blends beautifully with the amber which takes coconut to a whole other place. Great combination of notes, and it is not sweet, as Robin said.
