Thierry Mugler A*Men Pure Coffee ~ new fragrance

Posted by Robin on 19 February 2008 27 Comments

A*Men Pure Coffee by Thierry Mugler fragrancesThierry Mugler has launched AngelMen (aka A*Men) Pure Coffee, a limited edition variation on the original A*Men fragrance with an overdose of coffee:

AngelMEN Pure Coffee, a new interpretation of AngelMEN's signature note of gourmet coffee beans, is a woody-coffee-oriental fragrance-created using a new carbon-dioxide extraction methodology where strong Arabic coffee was removed directly from the seed. "It's less vanilla with a more modern, woodsy blend," said Pierre Aulas, olfactive consultant for Thierry Mugler.

A*Men Pure Coffee was developed by perfumer Jacques Huclier, who also created the original A*Men scent in 1996. The notes include arabica coffee, musk, patchouli, moss, cedar and vetiver.

Thierry Mugler A*Men Pure Coffee is available in 100 ml Eau de Toilette for $65. It can be purchased now overseas, and should be available in the United States by April. (quote via Daily News Record, 1/14/2008, additional information via elle.it, perfumerflavorist, profumeriamarino.it) Update: see a review of A*Men Pure Coffee.

Other recent fragrances from Thierry Mugler: Eau de Star & Ice*Men, Miroir Miroir, Innocent Illusion.

    Black Vetyver Cafe, watch out!
Now I want to try this one, too.

A*Men has a strong urine note to me…not sure coffee will disguise it. lets hope.

Let's hope so — the only thing that worried me was the word “modern” in the description. Hope that doesn't mean they've 'freshened” it up.

I've not smelled A*men, but this sounds good to me. Has anyone smelled Rochas man? It's supposed to be a coffee scent. I wonder how they'd compare, and why coffee notes seem to target men's fragrances.

Ugh. “Fresh” is so overdone to me. Still, it sounds intriguing! Coffee can be a good thing!

I haven't! You're right, they don't do coffee much in women's, don't know why — it is easy enough to make it sweet & floral.

Me to! I love coffee-related beverages/ smells, although I haven't had much experience with it in actual fragrances. I just hope it doesn't have the same smell as I got from another fragrance which was VERY strongly mixed instant coffee. I gagged. A lot. (The notes for the fragrance were pipe tobacco, caramel, etc. Don't know where I got coffee…)

Do note that they didn't say “fresh” at all, I was just worrying over the “modern” part and what it might mean.

Maybe it had coffee and they just didn't list it as a note?

You know, it does say a few secret ingredients…totally forgot about that. Ugh- it was horrible. It was Blue Angel from Scent by Alexis (It came in a sample order from la creme and I guess they just threw it in because I most certainly didn't order it.) The two other fragrances of hers I tried (Courtesan and Eve's Revenge) were great…I'm actually wearing courtesan now…but I don't know where she went wrong with this one.

Rochas Man is a gorgeous coffee scent. Basically, Bond's New Haarlem is a high class copy of Rochas, so if you love the Bond you'll love the Rochas. I think it could easily be worn by a woman too, and it has great staying power and a beautiful dry-down. (The Jo Malone is also beautiful, but had effectivley faded off my wrist before I'd left the shop…)

I'm very keen to try this limited edition A*Men, but haven't seen it in a shop yet.

I bought it last week. It is close to A*Men but very different. It is not fresher but lighter and easyier to wear that the original one. The coffie is well present at the very beggining and than mute to the classic A*Men sweet notes, vetyver is not so distinctive, maybe at the very end. Wonderful anyway, all my colegues liked it. bEAUTIFUL bottle, brown rubber and gold aluminium for the star. I raccomand

I haven't been able to try the SbA line, although I know a few are very loved. Bear in mind: lists of notes are just about NEVER complete, whether they tell you there are “secret ingredients” or not.

Aha, and I don't love New Haarlem at all. Totally agree on the Jo Malone though!

Sigh. So there *is* a correlation between scents and ED: just when I'd gotten-it-up to try A*Men Pure Coffee, I read Savo's review and *immediately* went limp.

I don't get it… I expected A*Men Pure Coffee to have a fuller and more mellow note, not “lighter and easier to wear”. I had hoped that it would be competitive with Ava Luxe's Cafe Noir; seems that's not the case.

Well, you've saved me $65 — thanks for posting!

JBH, it is always a personal feeling, I was looking to my fragrances and I have find Pure coffee notes somethimes similar to Attitude and B*Man, but having it's own personality and character. Maybe I make you save 65$ but please TRY it, and than we can talk, I don't want to have this responsibility :)

This just came in today, and I loved it immediately. The combination of the coffee and patchouli are prominent in the first minutes, then dry down nicely. I snagged a sample and my cooperative 9 yr old son is now wearing it proudly. He smells deeelicious – have to get my husbnd to put it on next. ;)

Is it on counter already, or are you sniffing a secret tester?

As other people have noted before, there's a rich creaminess to Pure Coffee, as if you're holding a freshly made vanilla-mocha latte to your nose while someone is dark-roasting (i.e. burning) a batch of coffee beans in another room. There's also a dry woodsy smell that fades in and out.

I love it, and find myself reaching for it every morning. I agree that it might not be appropriate come the hotter days of summer, but I'm working it now! And yes, it does come in a great bottle, an espresso brown with a rich gold star in the center. I found my first bottle at Saks, but they quickly sold out of it. It's on backorder at Sephora, as well, but I managed to snag a second bottle from Nordstrom — I don't want to run out!

This IS really good. I got a sample for my bf cause he loves coffee (in general) and it smells divine on him. It's much better on his skin than on a card or on mine.
