Tom Ford for Men Extreme ~ new fragrance

Posted by Robin on 6 December 2007 17 Comments

Tom Ford for Men Extreme fragranceTom Ford has launched a new limited edition variation on this year's Tom Ford for Men fragrance. Tom Ford for Men Extreme is meant as a more intense version, and will be in more exclusive distribution. The fragrance...

...reflects an attitude of impeccable style, not of rules. A masterfully blended fragrance tailored for a true connoisseur, each ingredient is chosen with discriminating taste.

A vintage Patchouli, lush Black Italian Figs, ultra-pure Persian lemons, decadent Black Truffle and rich Cedar Wood are entwined through the exquisite craft of haute perfumery.

A new icon of masculinity emerges, breaking the rules, and creating a new, gentlemanly universe in its path.

Tom Ford for Men Extreme is available now at Neiman Marcus, and is $125 for 50 ml.

Is it just me, or does this seem like one of the fastest flanker launches ever? After rereading Kevin's review of the original, this seems even more anticlimactic, though I'm still a bit curious to try either of them, despite the [thankfully shortlived] hype.

They announced it at the same time that they announced the regular — guessing they're hoping to get some Christmas shopping action. I haven't smelled it yet, but perhaps it will be more interesting than the regular. We'll see!

I have to say I was a bit let down with this one. Origianlly, I heard this was going to be an EDP. However, it is not. It is an EDT. And while I like this better than the original Tom Ford for Men, the lasting power is certainly not worth $125 for 50ml! A few hours and…poof!…gone. If I'm going to spend $125 on something, I'm going to scrape up an extra $10 and get myself 100ml of a Montale that I can wear for a few days and still smell!!

Oh, that is too bad, and very surprised they didn't do something longer lasting, EdT or not. Glad it at least smells better, I guess.

This is MUCH better than Tom Ford for Men. More elegant and formal. Extremely musky and animalic. It's longevity could be more, but it is by no means JC Ellena-esque longevity.

There is a wonderful note of leather in the top notes that reminds me of walking into a fine gentleman's shoe store. In addition the musk in TFE is much more stylized and luxurious than the synthetic notes I got in TFFM.

I think this could be best mens scent of the year (in a tie with Narciso Rodriguez for Him and Black Tourmaline by Olivier Durbano).

I have this and the original TTfM and can attest to that although the Extreme version is listed an EdT, it has great longevity more akin to that of an EdP and much more so than the original.
They smell completely different to each other so I'm puzzled at why they're marketed so closely. I suspect this one WON'T remain limited edition as I hear it's selling well and stores have been told them can continue to make re-orders for the next 6 months.

i am disappointed on this marketing style. i just bought TFFM as it is was available in berlin, germany as “brand-new” and now i hear there ist a better one?! TMFF ist good, though it becomes disappointing after a few minutes, a little ralph lauren-*every boy wears it*-like.
now we shall wait another half a year until we see TFFME in germany.

Well, sounds like they are different enough that you might not like the Extreme as well as the regular (?)

Geez! Will the SAs get their information right for once?? Someone there said they'll have it in February.

Next rant–I can't believe TF went straight for the pricetag jugular with this one! 50mils for $125? I too was expecting an EdP!

Anything like the original at all?

Hmmm, I wondered if this was a total last minute change of juice due to low sales of the original?

Oh well, gotta give it a sniff at least. I do get compliments with the original, but the longevity can be unpredictable on me as well as the way it develops on me. My own personal fragrance wild child! :D

Don't think it was a last minute change at all, it was announced at the same time as the regular scent. And despite the concentration, would be very surprised if it wasn't stronger than the original. But — haven't smelled it, and since I'm not likely to brave the mall during December, I won't for some time :-)

I didn't hear of the notes til now so it just seems so odd the formulation seems so different than the original.

I'm totally afraid that I might buy it instantly because I liked it so much instead of waiting for the stray bottles that end up on the net. Then again I'm not awfully sure how limited was the edition. I'm getting feelings of being left without like missing out on the reedition of Guerlinade.

I think. I'll pretend it doesn't exist for now. :)

I obsessed about trying this all day yesterday–I AM WEAK!!–I had to go and try it to save my own sanity. :(

The SA didn't have a tester on the counter despite the fact it's been there I'm sure for a week now. She tore open a new box for me to try…I was so impressed with the box–tall, made in the way used for pure parfum with the bottle sitting at its base and of course the amber bottle looked so decadent!

She put it on a blotter first, and I smelled a rich woody aroma like that of sweet guaiac topped with citrus. I got so excited I asked her to give me a bottle to test on skin.

This one of the most strangest scents I've tried because it takes drastic turns in evolution, like wearing three different scents for the day. It breaks the rules indeed!

It starts off a rich and sweet wood, I guess that's the figs and truffle talking, and suddenly it goes dry, an aroma that's musty-powdery-earthy with a slight musky tone underneath. At this point all I could think was that this is the snobbiest, stuffy, solitary and sterile scent I've ever smelled. Then it took another turn, the patchouli and cedar comes forth, green and woody laden with musk–big time 70's macho scent!

I gotta admit it's multiple personalities make it so unique and different, but it didn't grab me in any way for me to identify and become personal with it.

YAY! I've been set free! I don't think I'm shelling out $125 to own this!

LOL at “I've been set free” — it is always a good feeling to watch a lemming die. Sounds interesting though, and if it weren't December I'd be off to the mall to smell it myself. As it is, it will probably have to wait until January.

And kudos to the SA for opening a bottle for you!

I sprayed this on twice..once on my chest and once on my wrist and it lasted me the whole 13 hour shift. But it’s definitely not an everyday perfume :)
