Hors La Monde Shiloh, Roja Dove Scandal, Unspoken & Enslaved ~ new fragrances

Posted by Robin on 10 August 2007 20 Comments

Shiloh by Hors La Monde

Shiloh is the second fragrance release from Hors Là Monde, a small jewelry company founded in 2005 by Symine Salimpour. The new scent was developed by perfumer Michel Roudnitska, but at the moment, its notoriety is based on the recently resolved five-month trademark battle between Salimpour and actress Angelina Jolie over the rights to the name Shiloh, which just so happens to be the name of Jolie's infant daughter (who by the way is "the first infant re-created in wax by Madame Tussauds", according to Wikipedia).

But back to the perfume:

Shiloh is the treasure brought home after years of traveling. Mysterious, bewitching and refined, Shiloh is the result of a fusion of delicate scents, precious woods, a hint of Rose from Esphahan, and a touch of patchouli oil...

Additional notes for Shiloh include lemon, bergamot, herbs, Virginia cedar, sandalwood, incense, oakmoss, musk, vanilla.

Hors Là Monde Shiloh is an Eau de Parfum, and is available in 50 ml for $128. You can pre-order now at luckyscent; it will ship in late August or early September. (quote and image via horslamonde, additional information via luckyscent) Update: see a review of Hors Là Monde Shiloh.

Roja Dove Scandal, Unspoken and Enslaved perfumes

Roja Dove, of the Roja Dove Haute Parfumerie at Harrods, has launched three new fragrances:

Now in a bid to reclaim the lost art of fragrance, rather than the now ubiquitous art of marketing fragrance, Dove has unveiled his first fragrance line.

The three fragrances, one for each olfactive category, have been created with no marketing brief and no financial compromise. Dove has selected the finest natural ingredients to build scents that all carry one distinctive note: luxury.

Scandal ~ "...a floral, based on a heavy dose of white blossom that resonates with indole, an aromatic heterocyclic organic compound that occurs naturally in flowers and is redolent of a heady animal scent", notes include bergamot, lily of the valley, orange blossom, freesia, rose, jasmine de Grasse, tuberose, sandalwood, orris, balsams and musk.

Unspoken ~ a chypré, featuring notes of bergamot, neroli, rose, ylang-ylang, jasmine de Grasse, ginger, oakmoss, sandalwood, vetiver, patchouli, vanilla, balsams and labdanum.

Enslaved ~ a "rich, soft and sensual oriental with an overdose of vanilla and tonka bean". Additional notes include bergamot, orange, lemon, geranium, orange blossom, rose, ylang ylang, jasmine de Grasse, carnation, clove, oakmoss, cedarwood, vetiver, patchouli, labdanum, ambergris and musk.

Roja Dove Scandal, Unspoken & Enslaved will be available in Parfum (100 ml, £350) or Eau de Parfum (100 ml, £95). The fragrances launch in October at House of Fraser, Roja Dove Parfumeries and Roja Dove Haute Parfumerie. (first two quotes via cosmeticsbusiness, third via cosmeticsint.co.uk)

That Angelina is on my last nerve. Lessee, what else is Shiloh? A city, a Civil War battle … etc. She so crazy.
To continue with curmudgeonness: That is a fugly bottle for Shiloh. And those Roja Dove names sound like designer imposters at CVS. They lack only exclamation points.
But I'm sure I'll try both Shiloh and Unspoken (aka: If you like Chypre, you'll love Unspoken!)

Have to agree on both counts, although perhaps Jolie did Hors La Monde a favor (assuming it didn't cost them big $$ to fight) as the Shiloh perfume got considerably more publicity this way than it would have otherwise.

The RD names, any of them on their own, are ok, but the 3 together don't sound like a high end luxury brand at all.

Scandal? There was Scandal by Lanvin, and as far as I am concerned it will always be the one and only Scandal. is there a shortage of names out there?

Who needs 100ml of perfume? At … uh … $700ish? Lord. Remember the days when $100 seemed REALLY EXPENSIVE?

I agree with Sarasotagirl–Sick of Miss Jolie, but hey, that bottle is a tad ugly.

I tested Shiloh the other day, but was not impressed. Maybe it was a bad sample. You know I loves me some Michel, but this fragrance was sharp, synthetic smelling and not distinctive at all. I will try it again from a spray tester.

    Hugs!

The bottle is not getting any love here today then! So disappointed to hear it wasn't immediate love…have a sample coming and hope I'll like it more than you did. Hugs to you 🙂

Strange, I was in Roja's Haute Parfumerie 2 years ago and was fortunate enough to sniff the perfumes that he had created. Wonder why it's suddenly been announced that they are available?

I would assume because they are going into wider distribution, perhaps? Or he simply wanted some publicity so sent out press releases…

Like Prince Barry I was lucky enough to smell RD's three own scents about 6 months ago. From the list of notes I'd say they weren't the same scents (although the chypre sounds very similar). Plus the ones I smelled were £1000 !!! (can't remember for how much or the strength – I was too blown away though I did love them). I will certainly make a trip in October to smell these. Thanks for the heads up.

How interesting, so perhaps these are all new? Do let me know how they are if you get to try them!

    Dear all,

There is a bit of confusion here.

The “trilogy” range, Scandal Unspoken and Enslaved is totally different than the “Semi bespoke” range.

First the trilogy is precisely about bringing an upmost quality fragrance to a decent price I agree $700ish is not to anyone's budget but remember that there is the consolation lot for $200. And don't forget our amazing body cream just above the $100 mark. They took us nearly a year of testing since in our formulation no one before has put so much perfume extract in a body cream formulation before ever.

Second, the Semi Bespoke range, includes 8 fragrances and is limited to 50 people. They are sold for £1000 and come in a perfumer's flask of 250ml. These are original works from R. Dove.

I hope this clarifies the situation.

    Clement

I know this post is rather late, but I have just tried Scandal and it is superb – although the only obvious crossover with my beloved 31 rue Cambon appears to be the sandalwood and iris, it has that same delicious silky smooth creaminess. If 31 is my elegant aspirational day scent, Scandal can be my aspirational vampy evening scent. Oh boy, I am an Odalisque on velvet cushions wearing just a string of pearls! (metaphorically speaking, of course…)

All 3 from trilogy range are dispointlingly poorly packaged, except the blue butterfly bottle. The scandal and Unspoken smell decently luxurious and rich to sort of justify the price tag and rarety. However, they do not come close to Clive Christian’s in complexity. Roja Doves are like reading a short story, while Christians are like reading a lenghty novel. (most commercial ones are like reading a newspaper’s title). Excellent chypre, quite good floral oriental, but still, one would expect more, much more from such an exclusive perfumer, place and price.

Have not tried the RD fragrances, but since I’m no fan of CC to begin with, that doesn’t sound compelling!
