Strip sounds really good to me, although I didn't care for Maitresse. Must try!

The musks bit is quite good. All ingredients react to your body temperature, for heaven's sake. Gave me a good chuckle anyway, thanks for posting it.

If it smells anything like the candle (sort of spicy-ambery floral). I'll love it! Love the bottle color.

The original Agent Provocateur fragrance is one of my absolute favorites, and I have the black Strip candle, which smells delicious! The notes of the Strip fragrance seem to vary a little from the candle, but I'll be eager to give it a try!

Wow! That AP was a nice surprise. I just love Maitresse but I won't feel greedy if I love Strip as well. It is my birthday tomorrow! I am having a girls day out on Friday with my mum, my sister and my neice, so can I smell it anywhere yet?

It does sound nice. I think it is maybe a variation on the original (?)

I've heard the candle is nice. Is it anything like the original AP scent?

Will ask again (already did above) — does the Strip candle smell anything like the original AP?

I don't think it “officially” launches until later in the year, and haven't seen it anywhere so far except online at the AP website.

Yes, the Strip candle is supposed to be built around the base notes of the original AP scent. There are actually two large pillar candles, called “Strip” and “Tease”. Strip is black, and as I said, contains the base notes of the scent, mainly amber and musk. To me it's almost a pure amber fragrance when it burns…reminds me a lot of L'Artisan's Ambre Extreme. The companion candle, Tease, is pink and built around the top notes of the EDP; it contains magnolia, jasmine, rose, and other floral notes. Both candles smell fabulous and burn forever…you can see them on the AP website if you want to have a look!

I don't know about the relationship between the candle scent and the original AP – wish I did – but I'm very fond of the original AP and look forward to smelling this one. The “body heat releasing the sexual attractant within” is pretty funny, not sure if DH could handle it, lol!

Thanks!! Then I'll bet that is what the EdP is too: built around the base notes. Would guess we'll get a Tease EdP eventually!

It contains just the base notes of the EDP, so it doesn't smell just like the fragrance, but it smells wonderful! Specifically, it's supposed to be, as far as I know, *just* amber and musk, and to my nose, is heavy on the amber. The idea, really, is that if you burn the Strip and Tease together, you get the complete AP fragrance. But I can tell you that we used to burn both together in the shop (I worked for the company a few years back) and while they smelled lovely together, not very much like the EDP.

Thanks — betting this is what the EdP is supposed to represent as well. Odd that they don't mention it on the AP website, but I think they do on Cosmoty — I just wasn't positive as I don't speak German and the online translators are so iffy 🙂

    Oy, that name!

What would you tell people if they asked for the name of your perfume? If, as an answer, you gave the name of the new AP scent, would you get reported for harrassment? Sillier things have happened. Though it's tame compared to most of the Etat Libre D'Orange line. Those would definitely result in a write-up!

Surreal Garden, however, is quite a cool name, and I would love to smell a perfume that lived up to it!

I'm a copywriter and yes, it definitely is!

Though I do try to blame the clients for egging us on.

I'd love to write an ad that says 'Smells good. Go to the perfume counter and try it.”

    😉

I just read that too, on Cosmoty.de. I'm wondering if they're going to introduce it here in the States, and, if so, if they're going to change the name. Pussy in German just means kittycat, and in the description it talks about young catladies wearing this daring scent. Well, we'll find out soon.

It was announced in WWD today as well. No word of renaming it, although actually don't think they mentioned whether it would be released in the US at all. Didn't sound like it.

Listen guys, I need your help with something…..I am thinking of buying one of the Agent Provocateur fragrances, but since the brand is not available yet in my country, I have to buy online, which means I cannot test it first. Which one do you suggest out of all 4 of them? AP, Eau Emotionelle, Maitresse or Strip?

My taste in perfumes usually tends to go towards oriental, woody, sandalwood, amber, musk, vanilla, things like that, but I am not fixated on only one type, I usually try lots and rarely repurchase the same perfume. Among some of the fragrances that I've worn and liked in the past are: (in no particular order) : Narciso Rodriguez For Her EDT, Alex Mc Queen's My Queen, Burberry Brit, Calvin Klein Truth & Euphoria, YSL Nu, Dior Addict & Pure Poison Elixir, Guerlain Samsara, Gaultier 2, Roberto Cavalli Just Cavalli, Gucci Rush, Gucci Eau de Parfum 2…..Now, based on this, which one of the Agent Provocateur fragrances should I buy? Which one is most likely to fit my taste? What do you think people? Robin, any suggestions?

I have not smelled Strip, but of the other 3, I'd pick the original AP — I do think it is easily the best of the 3, and it sounds like you don't have a problem with a richer, fuller scent. You might also want to go read some of the reviews at MakeupAlley.

Thanks for the reply! I have already tried makeupalley and lots of reviews, but still couldn't decide. I was afraid that the original AP may smell a bit too old ladyish for my taste because I've seen the term “old lady” associated with this perfume on many reviews. Also rosy and powdery. It's true that people's perceptions of perfumes differ from one individual to another and sometimes really drastically. Is AP anything like…..Jean Paul Gaultier's Classique for instance? Or does it have any spicyness in it? Can you compare it to anything? I am also waiting for some more reviews of Strip, before I decide.

Oh and another thing! I have already ruled out Eau Emotionelle, I saw that many people compared it to SJP's Lovely or Narciso Rodriguez for Her, and if it's true, then there's no point in buying the same smell all over again, I have already worn both SJP and NR for Her.

AP is rich and powdery, and has something of an old-fashioned feel. Perhaps you would do better to try to buy or swap for a sample than buying it unsniffed?

I couldn't find a sample anywhere!! I live in Romania, which is basically at the end of the world. LOL….well…..not really at the end of the world, but sure feels like that sometimes.

Ah, that makes it hard. Not sure what to recommend. I don't think AP is universally loved by any means. I like it, but don't adore it, and doubt I'd ever go through a whole bottle. Interested to try Strip, or the upcoming Tease, either of which might be lighter without being so light and airy as Emotionelle.

I forgot one thing..I noticed that AP is sometimes classified as chypre floral, other sites classify it as oriental spicy. Which one is it?

I've just read about AP being compared to Narciso Rodriguez, Hilary Duff, Miss Dior Cherie…..and now I'm really confused. LOL

I would not compare the original AP to any of those.

Michael Edwards classifies AP as “mossy woods”, which is how he classifies most chypre scents.

When is Tease going to come out? and what would you compare Maitresee to?

I don't know when Tease will come out, in fact, it's just a rumor at this point so far as I know. But since they did Strip+Tease candles to start, it seems likely that we'll see a Tease scent.
I really didn't like Maitresse at all, in fact, I didn't even put it on skin, but then, I'm not really a huge fan of aldehydic florals. Not sure what I'd compare it to other than any other aldehydic floral. It is soft though, and maybe easier to take in some ways than the original AP.

well, I am not crazy about floral aldehydes either, and at first I ruled out Maitresse, but according to the ENORMOUS amount of reviews that I 've read all over the internet these past few days, trying to make a decision about what to buy, I've noticed lots mentioning how Maitresse is sweet and sexy and has a really good subtle drydown, and it kinda confused me. I don't see anything sublte about aldehydes. Would you say Maitresse is anything like Chanel no.5 or YSL Rive Gauche? does it have the same synthetic feeling to it?

I'm sorry, but I only gave it a brief try on a scent strip — I'm really not going to be able to be any more help. Aldehydes can be very soft though, esp. once the top notes evaporate.

Well, I finally managed to test the 2 AP fragrances, the orginial and Maitresse and I didn't like either of them. I have not tested Strip yet, and I am pretty sure I won't get that chance., but I sure hope it's different from the first two AP scents. Have you tested Strip ?

I haven't tried Strip, but it seems to be based on notes from the original AP — might not suit you if you didn't like the original (?)
