Gwen Stefani L ~ new fragrance

Posted by Robin on 20 March 2007 30 Comments

Gwen Stefani LAMB logoWe needed another fragrance with a single letter name, and now we've got one. Gwen Stefani's debut fragrance release under arrangements with Coty will be called simply L, named for love and her own brand label, LAMB:

Stefani's fragrance, created with Firmenich, has top notes of sparkling green freshness, leafy water hyacinth, white freesia, fresh pear and violet leaves; a heart of jasmine petals, rose, lily of the valley, sweet pea and orange blossom, and a drydown of frangipani blossom, peach skin, heliotrope flower and sensual musk. "My mom had sweet peas in the yard growing up," said Stefani, who grew up in Anaheim, Calif., as one of four children. "I wanted this fragrance to be light, fresh and clean. I want people to say, 'I want to smell like that.' "

Gwen Stefani L perfumeThe tag line will be "I want you all over me", from the Stefani song Crash, and she is reportedly working on 5 (!) more fragrances. Gwen Stefani L will be an Eau de Parfum in 50 and 100 ml, and will launch in September. (via Women's Wear Daily) Update: Gwen Stefani L will be at Nordstrom this coming July, and will launch at other stores later in the year. (via cosmeticnews)

Update 2, 6/11: Gwen Stefani L (see bottle at right) is now available for pre-order at Nordstrom: "Her signature fragrance is a fusion of masculine and feminine with a luscious floral scent that bursts with sparkling freshness and then wraps you in the warmth of sensual musks."

Update 3: see a review of Gwen Stefani L.

Hmm. What about Apothia's L scent? But I doubt I'll fall for this anyway. I'm starting to have issues w/ practically every new scent on the market having freesia – not a note I find particularly appealing.

Apothia's L, and also L de Lolita Lempicka. With all the letters to go around, you'd think they would use something else, LOL…

I hadn't thought of it, but there is lots of freesia lately.

Same thing you thought — Apothia and L by LL — geez, can't we use a diffent letter? How about G? S? Actually, I wonder if I did a search on one of those ginormous frag sites, whether many/most of the individual letters (M, W, Z etc.) have been used on second/third tier frags we don't even know about…

Had forgotten about LL's L. As March said, what about G or S?

We've got F (Ferragamo) and S (??? can't remember who does S, but I know there is one). Anyway, why do letters? You can't google them easily. I don't think these brands understand how important the internet is, honestly.

S is taken, I think, although as I said above, can't remember by who. Maybe it will come to me later.

Oh geez, I was hoping that Gwen Stefani would have brought out a scent that was *not* a fresh, fruity, floral! She's lost her soul in the machine.

    Also — S-Perfumes?

The basenote contains “sensual musk” not just “musk”? How unoriginal are those notes, anyway? It could go either way, I think, but I fear it will blend in to the mass of stale celeb scents around. Why didn't she just call it LAMB? Wouldn't that have been better than L?

    Does YSL's M7 count?

And what about Paco Rabanne's XS?

Maybe she's making one for each letter of lamb…and then 2 more. Hopefully they will all be different. I do have a feeling it will sell, because gwen has her own style. She seems edgy and

    unlike most celebs.

Ah, if we go into 2-letter names, the possibilities are endless :-)

It isn't sounding stupendous. Too bad, there isn't much worth smelling in the celeb category at the moment.

Wish her scent sounded more edgy…sweet pea & pear doesn't sound like it will stand out from her celebrity fragrance competition in any way! But that doesn't stop anything from selling.

I was anxiously waiting for her perfume release sine she's always been one of my favorite.

Now is the perfume released in Canada as well? I am not surprised with the orange blossom but the other notes does surprise me a little…can't wait to smell it though.

I think this one doesn't launch until the fall, and I assume will be in Canada around then too (?)

Hm… I'm not *such* a strict Catholic, but I'm a teensy bit bothered by Gwen Stefani's appropriation of the “Lamb of God” iconography. Is she playing with Catholic symbolism, a la Madonna?

Actually, GS has usually bored me, and I don't think this fragrance will do much to change my feelings!

J, I'm not Catholic so that went right over my head, actually.

I can't say she bores me or interests me — as usual, I'm too out of it to know. Have never heard her sing, or seen her do anything at all. If she didn't have a scent coming up, she'd be off my radar entirely :-)

The guy at Macy's said he smelled this today and it smelled good. HAHA! Its HILARIOUS because the tagline is “I want you all over me” and I've been singing the song she says that line in ALLLLLL DAY!!!!! What a coincidence!! “I want you all over me like L.A.M.B”!!!

Yes, read that at WWD & Cosmetic News this morning. Only haven't posted yet because I still haven't seen a word about the perfume itself other than the name, but when details appear, I'll post them!

Yes, absolutely, but don't know how long the Nordstrom exclusive is. Frequently they do 6 weeks, sometimes more.
