Le Labo Tubereuse 40 ~ new fragrance

Posted by Robin on 18 October 2006 8 Comments

Le Labo Tubereuse 40 fragranceLe Labo has launched Tubereuse 40, a new fragrance developed by perfumer Alberto Morillas. Tubereuse 40 is described as a...

...non-heady Tubereuse shaped around citruses and musks that give it an unexpected unisex “eau de cologne” identity despite its impressive 30% dosage of oil in alcohol. As in all Le Labo’s fragrance names, the number to the right of the natural ingredient indicates the number of ingredients used in the perfume’s formula.

Update: the notes include benzoin, bergamote, neroli, petitgrain, citron, rosemary, cedar, orange blossom, rose, jasmine, mandarin, mimosa, oakmoss, sandalwood and musk.

Tubereuse 40 is the first of a planned series of of city-exclusive fragrances; it will be exclusive to New York, and will be sold in-store only, no internet or phone orders. As Le Labo continues to expand retail operations, new city-exclusive fragrances will be introduced.

Tubereuse 40 is $239 for 50 ml and $360 for 100 ml.

Update 2: see a review of Tubereuse 40 here.

    Oh, baby, baby-

Too rich for my blood, even if swoonworthy.

I'm SUCH a trollop [NO- REALLY ?], I couldn't justify an expenditure of that magnitude, I'm so unfaithful…

Thank God, it's only perfume, not men !

I visited Le Labo last month and received a spritz of this wonderful scent. It is as beautiful as it sounds, with excellent staying-power. Co-founder Eddie was adamant in insisting that it could not be purchased before its October debut, so I was unable to even consider buying it then. And you are right in stating that it is an in-store purchase only — no telephone or email orders will be honored. Drats!

It isn't cheap, is it? But I am very taken with the Le Labo line, the fragrances really are beautiful and unusual.

Thank goodness! This would be irresistable if not for the above restrictions. My CCs are happy.

Thats one way to look at it, LOL…but if the reviews are good, I have a feeling lots of people will be bribing their NY friends into making a little shopping trip :-)

An cologne with a high (30%!) essential oil content! Interesting – it is essentially (no pun intended) an EdP!

What would be your top 5 (or 3) tubereuse based fragrances ?

Top 2 are easy: Fracas & Tubereuse Criminelle. 3rd place probably goes to Carnal Flower.

Also rans, but they don't even approach the above: iPF Tuberosa d'Autunno (sp?), Diptyque Do Son, L'Artisan & MPG.
