Catherine Deneuve on perfume…

Posted by Robin on 6 February 2006 16 Comments

Catherine Deneuve mentions a few of her favorite fragrances in the UK Times Online. She...

...always sprays her pillows with nice scent. Her favourites are Rose Menthée by Fresh, anything by Jo Malone, and there is this wonderful shop on the Rue de Grenelle called Frédéric Malle. Have I been there? I haven’t?

“Oh, but I will write it down for you and you must go immediately. Especially when it’s such beautiful weather today. It is hard, when it is like this, not to be in a good mood, non?”

There is something about her personality that is so engaging. I like her!

    Hugs!

I was delighted to see Catherine Deneuve's gorgeous face displayed at the MAC counter in Nordstrom.

No one seemed to know who she is (I'm giving my own age away here…younger than Deneuve, older than most SAs).

Bravo to MAC for showcasing one of the most beautiful women on the planet.

What a great article! It's a shame her perfume Deneuve is no longer being made. It was lovely. Irma Shorell makes a knockoff of it called “Cannes” that's quite good, but to me it's just not quite the same without the Deneuve name attached.

Wasn't she also the face of Chanel No. 5 at one time?

LOL — I was in a MAC store over the weekend. They really ought to make all the SAs learn who she is before they put up the display! Completely agree, she is just gorgeous.

Yes, she did lovely ads for Chanel. Much classier than the more recent ones.

Keep hearing how wonderful her fragrance was!

Thanks for posting this interview – it was very enjoyable. By coincidence I was in MAC this weekend and saw her ad campaign for the first time. Still stunning at 62! Maybe she's had a bit of help, maybe she hasn't – but she definitely doesn't look all pulled taut and botoxed like her Hollywood counterparts.

Such an elegant & quintessentially French lady. She seems like she would be interesting and fun to have a conversation with.

Oh, I so wish I liked her more. I don’t. Never have: I remember having arguments with my best friend about her circa 1964. I liked her sister. *She* could actually act. CD can’t. I wish people who don’t understand French could hear how false she speaks. I find it painful. She probably wouldn’t have had the career she’s had if Françoise Dorléac had been alive. She’s not the only one: there are quite a few actors, writers, etc. who benefited from the absence of a more talented sibling, or at least would have had to struggle a lot more to achieve success.

Strange she doesn’t mention Serge Lutens; she mentions his scents in *all* the interviews with CD I’ve read over the years.

Think for a minute what a chain smoker smells like, and you have Madame Deneuve! To see her still smoking at the age of 62 breaks my heart -just watch her smoking in the film “8 Women” (“Huit Femmes”). Her life expectancy is not much more than 68 years. Reluctant as I am, I have to say this:no amount of Rose Menthee or anything will disguise the smell of smoke.

Thanks for the link to this article, R! Deneuve is as beautiful and charming as ever! I think she could have been one of Hitchcock's “Icy Blondes” if she spoke English back when he was directing.

I'm thrilled that MAC chose her for the latest Icon collection, and that she was hands-on in creating the shades and the beautiful compacts.

And her own perfume, Deneuve! I still think MAC should have obtained the rights to re-launch it with the cosmetics. I took a bit of it with me to the MAC counters, to share it with the youthful MA's and SA's, and they all agreed it was a masterpiece.

I think I'll dab a bit on this morning!

I never knew she had a sister! Curious what you mean by “how false she speaks” — do you mean she just never sounds sincere?

The ads are great, except that I thought that her makeup was way overdone. But then, MAC doesn't do subtle ;-)

As someone who has struggled with a nicotine addiction all of my adult life, I can only say I agree but she has my sympathy.

P, You are right, she looks like a Hitchcock blonde!

I really want that one darn lavenderish eyeshadow. Hope they will add it to the regular line, because I don't need the others in the quad.

And quit tempting me with that Deneuve parfum, LOL!

I remember the accident being talked about a lot at the time. It happened on the Riviera (I lived in Nice at the time).

It's not so much that she sounds insincere, it's that she sounds as if she doesn't understand what she's saying: the intonation is usually wrong; the wrong words are inflected. It's the definition of bad acting. She's terrible.

Ah, gotcha. Since I only “hear” her in subtitles, I would never notice.
