Posted by Robin on 9 November 2005 12 Comments

Bvlgari Red Tea fragranceBvlgari will launch Eau Parfumée au Thé Rouge (Red Tea) next month.

The unisex fragrance features notes of pink pepper, orange, bergamot, Roiboos red tea, Yunnan red tea, fig pulp, walnut and musk. (via moodiereport)

Update: see a review of Bvlgari Red Tea.

Not really perfume related, but Serge Lutens fans might be interested in his new makeup collection, now available at Shiseido in Tokyo, Barneys in New York, and set to debut at Les Salons du Palais Royal Shiseido in Paris in January. The collection includes:

...six lipsticks, four sets of four eye shadows, one blush, one kohl eyeliner and one mascara.

Prices range from 43 euros, or $50.70 at current exchange, for the mascara, to 145 euros, or $171, for a powder compact. Most of the items are refillable; one refill costs 65 euros, or $76.65, for the powder and the foundation compacts, and 40 euros, or $47.20, for the lipstick. (via Women's Wear Daily)

The The Rouge sounds fascinating. I can't wait to smell it. I guess they either have someone now distilling or extracting scent of fig pulp and walnut, or are using headspace technology. Funny thing is, the picture doesn't show the perfume having a red or blush color. We're chatting now on my group about tinting perfumes with non-staining colors, and heck, if I make a “red” perfume, I may want it to have that color.

The note descriptions sounds like it will be a dry, slightly sweet scent, maybe a touch astringent.

I am very interested in Eau Parfumée au Thé Rouge too, especially curious to find out what a walnut note smells like. Have you encountered in any other scents, R? I am thinking, maybe Bois Farine or something? Should google that note.

That Serge Lutens makeup line is priced into the realm of the comical.

The Bvlgari tea scents are soooo light, so I'm just hoping this will be a deeper, more interesting scent. We shall see!

Can't think of anything with walnut, M, but didn't google it myself…

T, you will have to have a real interest in having SL's name on your mascara to pay $50 for it — but for all I know, it is selling like hotcakes at Barneys already.

I agree with Tania–the prices are rather high. I can live without $50 lipstick, as I already have too many in all sorts of shades and textures.

On the other hand, it is still more reasonable than $75 lipstick from Cle de Peau. 🙂

V, the few personal reports I have seen were not raving about the color selection, anyway. I consider my Vincent Longo lipsticks to be outrageously priced at $25, so not likely I'll be picking up any of these either.

Serge Lutens has a makeup line!!!

Somehow I'm not surprised by the prices. I was looking at one of my Japanese fashion magazines last night and the prices for the ultra high end Kanebo International and Cle de Peau always made me wince. This sounds like a steal, especially since it's so limited availability!

I've spent the better part of my teenage and adult years in search of interesting things to buy and luxury products that were exclusive and would set me apart from my peers. I've never minded paying a lot for a lotion or a sweater as long as it was beautiful, unexpected, original. But the prices of everything these days is truly outrageous. Comical is the correct word. I am switching to a life of drugstore products if this insulting insanity continues!

M, I am not surprised by the prices either…just not going to pay them! But don't know why I didn't go look at the colors last time I was in Barneys. Will do it next time 🙂

A, the mascara price is what gets me especially, because really — mascara can only be of so high a quality. There is no need to pay so much for it. If the colors are outstanding (which is not what I'm hearing) than I can see paying more, but probably not that much more.
