Driving under the influence & other perfume news

Posted by Robin on 3 June 2005 12 Comments

Thanks to Tania, who forwarded this Yahoo news article (link expired, sorry!) about how odors affect driving ability.

And thank you to Daniel, who forwarded this article from yesterday's New York Times about the new JAR boutique in Bergdorf Goodman.

Ugh, JAR! More pretentiously over-priced perfume palaver.

At least Rosenthal is up-front about how he wants his silly fragrances marketed and presented to the public. While I don't agree with or like it, at least I know where he stands.

This whole pricing thing with Guerlain is another story. It's completely blindsided me! Are they trying to re-position themselves in the perfume market? Because if they are, I for one am not impressed. :(:(

Actually, I am cracking up at “they will decline to reveal its name”. Ha! I suppose if I ask to smell Jarling they will refuse since I am already unduly influenced.

LOL! I think old Joel must be “unduly influenced,” R–sounds like he's been drinking some of that Jarling! I mean how ridiculous can you get?

Shamelessly, furiously taking notes for use on own blog: “More pretentiously over-priced perfume palaver” Must also find way to work this into conversation.

Just read that JAR arrticle in the NYTimes. Whoa! Looks like a nice little Jewish boy from the Bronx became quite the snot. I've only sampled one of his “creations” – Ferme Les Yeux – and it smells like bad-breath saliva in the drydown. He'd better have that one locked up behind glass!

Ferme Tes Yeux is an odd perfume. I still want to try Bolt of Lightning, which I hear is wonderful. Sounds like it might not be so easy to do in BGs. Not even sure I can stand to go through the rigamarole, LOL!

R: Please keep your eyes peeled for a photo of the limited edition bottles from Guerlain!!!!! I must see what's considered worthy of the $1000 price for Mouchoir de Monsieur! K

I agree about the JAR perfs. They are ridiculous. Just ridiculous. Unless you want to smell like cheese (can't remember which one, but one of them smells just like camembert.) The wrist massage, though–that was something else.

L, did you try Golconda or Bolt of Lightning? Those are the 2 that I”ve heard are wonderful, but I haven't tried either.

The Jardenia was the camembert one I think – when N and I sniffed it I nearly retched. It was positively nauseating.

The others were merely unremarkable. Didn't sniff anything I had to own.
