Thierry Mugler Alien, Givenchy Very Irresistible for men & more new fragrances

Posted by Robin on 23 May 2005 12 Comments

Thierry Mugler is set to launch his next women's fragrance. After the scent has been presented to journalists and professionals, the public (or the public lucky enough to live in Paris, anyway) will be able to experience the fragrance at Initiatic space of Thierry Mugler, 49 Avenues Montaigne, 75008 Paris, from September 15 through October 15. (via abc-luxe) It is rumored that the scent will be called Alien, and will feature jasmine, green notes and vanilla. Update: Alien it is. See a review of Thierry Mugler Alien here.

Givenchy will release Very Irresistible for men in August. The fragrance was created by nose Pierre Wargnye and is described as a "woody green fragrance, with notes of mint, grapefruit peel, mocha and hazelnut wood". Update: see a review of Very Irresistible for men here.

Hugo Boss Energize fragrance for menAlso in August, look for Energise by Hugo Boss, a men's fragrance which "opens with spicy top notes, flowing into an aromatic heart and wrapping up with woody leathery under-notes." (via cosmeticnews) More on Energise: it will have notes of kumquat, cardamom, pink pepper, cilantro, freesia, juniper berry, ambrette seed, cocoa bean, jacaranda wood, leather & suede. (via parfumessence)

Coming in September: Kenzo Air Intense, a men's fragrance with cumin, anise, and vetiver. (via parfumessence)

Aha, so 'Alien' has GREEN NOTES! I wonder if this is just so they can colour the juice green and have a spaceship-shaped bottle? N

Well, I can't say how true the rumors are, but I read that it will be a purple bottle with silver details. Don't know the shape, and don't know if this is all bogus “leaked” information! I did read on basenotes that he has trademarked the name “Alien”.

Some conspiracy theorist kooks think that reports throughout history of angelic visitations are actually reports of ALIEN visitations. Just a thought: Perhaps Mr. Mugler is exploring the creepy intergalactical side of being touched by an Angel.

Yes…two little tidbits from Thierry Mugler via Michael Edward's Perfume Legends:

“When I was a child, I was very lonely. I imagined that the stars were my friends, flashing back at me”

    and

“My style projects an image of a woman who is innocent and tender, but strong. That's why I called my perfume Angel, because an angel can be good or bad”

I'd been reading rumors of the Alien moniker for awhile on POL, but thanks for sharing what the rumored notes are going to be. I'm so impatient to finally have this in the stores.

And I'm just ticked at Givenchy. I can't wear a huge number of their scents, but I've been historically fascinated by that house's creations. Why are they persisting with these newer and dimmer creations? VI for Men doesn't even sound like it really is a variant at all on the regular VI, which itself is nothing to write home about. How neat would it be for them to offer an actual variation on VI: it's not like there's a ton of big brand men's scents with multiple layers of rose. Make regular VI a bit darker, muskier, throw in “mocha” or some vetiver, and they'd actually have something worth the effort and trouble. I think Givenchy just wants to break my heart with more boringness.

K, I wonder if Alien will turn out to be a red herring…it is so widely reported now. We shall see! As for Givenchy, I have to admit complete ignorance. I haven't even smelled the regular VI. I stick with my beloved Eau de Givenchy, which is from the early 80s, LOL.

About the VI for men, it's pretty okay. A little bit like Armani Black Code, only it smells good. Not quite so sickly sweet, if memory serves. They, the distributor representative folks, were showing it to us last week. the bottle is green darker toward the top lighter at the bottom, with a black cap. The launch is in the next couple weeks. I was told you should be seeing it in stores on this coming friday, but I was also spacing out a bit during their presentation.

Thanks for the update! “Pretty okay” is not going to send me running to the store, LOL…

I've just gotten an “Alien” sample in London. I honestly can't decide if I like it or not — it's not the Kryptonite that “Angel” is for me, but the opening nearly killed me, smelling like nothing more than a giant tigerlily. There are images of the bottle on the Nordstroms site — it looks a little like a prop out of “Stargate” or something. Anyhow, the heart is quite green, but I'm not getting anything special off of this one. Pleasant, but certainly not out of this world. (And the sillage is toned down at the mid-stage as well, thank god.)

    Hi Eliza,

Your reaction is about the same as others I've read so far! I just got a sample in the mail, and hoping to try it next week.

Excellent — I was just about to offer to snag you a sample. Just don't plan on going out in public for the first hour, unless you want to asphyxiate the people around you!
