The Mail on Sunday (2/6/05, but link no longer working, sorry) reports that Roja Dove's favorite 3 scents of all time are Tabac Blond by Caron, Farouche by Nina Ricci, and Lalique by Lalique. Mr. Dove was associated with Guerlain for many years, and row runs the Haute Parfumerie at the Urban Retreat in Harrods.
Back in 2000, when asked to name the top 5 classic scents, Mr. Dove chose Guerlain's Shalimar, Mitsouko and L'Heure Bleu, along with Miss Dior and Arpege. (San Francisco Examiner, 7/25/2000)
How I would love to visit his shop! In addition to the obvious shopping opportunities, customers can apparently have a sniff of Le Sillage de La Reine, a fragrance used by Marie Antoinette and recreated by Francis Kurkdjian from a formula found in the French national archives. The fragrance is described as a "voluptuous confection" of jasmine, iris, ambergris, rose and tuberose. Read more in the Financial Times.
I really would love to visit this shop. It sounds like it would just be heaven. I just want to spend the afternoon smelling rare and discontinued fragrances.
It would be great fun to go perfume shopping in London and Paris. I would jump at the chance of a MUA European trip! Sniffa goes overseas!
I am there. But lets wait until Guerlinade is in stock, and the next Ormonde Jayne comes out!
This is probably the only reason I can think of that would have me going to London! I can't even imagine what it would be like to see all of Dove's selections.
Thanks for the article and all the fascinating stuff on your blog!
Hi P, glad you like the blog! I would (of course) go to London mostly to visit Ormonde Jayne, but the Roja Dove shop is a big inducement too.
