The outdoor lifestyle

And with these sentiments in mind, Gorham set out to imbue Byredo’s aesthetic and enthusiasm for the senses into the outdoor lifestyle, from Eleventh Hour’s evocative aromatic elements to handpicking products symbolic of camping culture (Stanley thermos bottles! Vargo pots! JJJJound cutting boards!) to collaborating with renowned French chef Jean Imbert on an evolving menu of freeze-dried delicacies.

An original and sensorial discovery

Posted by Robin on 31 May 2018 Leave a Comment

Bringing together close to 110 art and archaeology objects together for the first time, it will take you on a journey through Chinese civilisation. A selection of ceramics, drawings, bronzes, and paintings from the collections of the Shanghai Museum is presented for the first time in Europe alongside some twenty pieces from the Musée Cernuschi collections. These exceptional loans will immerse visitors in an original and sensorial discovery of the museum, punctuated with olfactory experiences throughout the chronological progression of the exhibition.

— The exhibit "Perfumes of China, the culture of incense in imperial times" will be open through 26 August at the Musée Cernuschi in Paris, and includes historical fragrances recreated by Dior.

Unidentified Scented Object

The vision of Cartier’s in-house fragrance nose Mathilde Laurent, Le Nuage Parfumé - aka the Unidentified Scented Object - is located at the Palais de Tokyo in Paris. It looks abstract on first impression, almost an illusion until closer inspection when the texture of the cloud is clear to see.

— Read more about Cartier's new art installation in Paris at What Is Cartier's Le Nuage Perfume Experience All About? at Vogue UK. The scent in the "cloud", by the way, is L'Envol de Cartier, and Le Nuage Parfumé is open to visitors from today through Monday.

Piver Reve d’Or ~ fragrance review

Piver Rêve d’Or vintage advert

In August, I met up with a friend at Sous le Parasol, a tiny perfume boutique in a decidedly non-chi-chi Parisian neighborhood. The boutique looks like it hasn’t had a branding update since 1966, and its logo and throwback storefront needs only Jeanne Moreau in a trench coat to shine in a nouvelle vague movie.

Naturally, my pulse leapt at Sous le Parasol’s glorious retro-chic décor. But what really got my heart racing were its shelves of cheap thrills. David Hasson, a Spanish perfumer, founded Sous le Parasol in 1936. He stocked his shop with his own colognes and blended them at his laboratory in Burgundy from materials from Grasse. The founder’s son still makes the boutique’s fragrances, and the granddaughter runs it…
