A little bit more punk
They decided to adapt a grand aldehyde floral on which Malle had been working with perfumer Dominique Ropion. Chanel No 5 gets its lively, polished quality from an aldehyde (a type of organic compound) that was synthesised in the early 20th century, and Malle and Ropion wanted to revisit the ingredient in a modern, original version. Yet Ropion’s incarnation was deemed “too perfect” by Elbaz, who asked for it to be “a little bit more punk”.

It's $75 for 75 ml so it won't be happening, but I'm seriously lemming the new Frédéric Malle + Olivia Giacobetti Iris Hand Cream / Creme Pour Les Mains au Beurre d'Iris. Someone do alert me if you see it marked down to around, say, $20? The blurb: "Frédéric Malle honors iris concrete’s historical use as precious perfume for the gloves and hands of the Medici family. Its colorless, silky texture was harnessed by Olivia Giacobetti with musk and woody notes to produce a clean, soft scent to accompany you wherever you go."
