A shout out to Diptyque Tam Dao for making my recent long car trips less stressful, and another shout out for the elephant design on the bar soap. "This perfumed soap is composed of a vegetable base enriched with sweet almond oil. Its delicate foam reveals the woody and creamy notes of Tam Dao; a memory of the sacred sandalwood forests of Indochina." $30 (ouch!) for 150g at Beautyhabit, where you'll also find the Tam Dao Shower Balm, $42 (ouch again!) for 200 ml.
Wednesday scent of the day 7/3
Hump Day, and International Plastic Bag Free Day. What fragrance are you wearing?
My theme today: the best fragrance for getting home from vacation, and all the associated chores (unpacking, sorting mail, laundry, cleaning up the mess everybody made while you were gone, etc). So far, Aftelier Candide is working great, plus it’s nice to smell like flowers after a week of smelling like bug spray.
Reminder: 7/5 will be Dealer’s Choice, edition 3…
Prayers toward the heavens
Frankincense, one of three fabled gifts the wise men brought to honor Jesus, has been used for millennia as an incense in cooking and religious ceremonies. In Catholic churches today, the tendrils of smoke rising from burning frankincense are thought to carry prayers toward the heavens. Now, the earthy smell that evokes memories of spiritual communion for so many is under threat: Human activity is predicted to cause a 50% decline in frankincense harvests over the next 20 years, according to new research.

The damage so far: second quarter 2019 buying poll
It’s July! Donatella, Our Lady of Scented Excess,1 having honorably discharged her duties as Stonewall ambassador, is turning her attention, however briefly, back to our little corner of the internets. She is wondering just how many bottles you might have acquired in the 2nd quarter (April, May and June) of 2019. Do tell all!
