Rabbit, rabbit, rabbit (ššš)! Welcome to November, plus, happy Day of the Dead, plus, a little reminder: if you live in a daylight savings zone, don't forget to change your clocks this weekend! That means it's time for our ninth annual Fall Back poll.
As always, answer as many or as few as you like, or just talk about something else. If it's spring where you live, adjust the questions accordingly.
1. What's the fragrance you'd most like to add to your collection this fall?
2. You have to vote one perfume in your collection off the island. Which one will go first, and why?
3. It's time for a (fantasy) fall getaway! Where are you going, and pick ONE fragrance to bring with you.
Note: top image is Momiji [cropped] by madras91 at flickr; some rights reserved.
Today Iām in La Nuit de Paco Rabanne, which isn’t autumnal, exactly, but it is dark and carnal and that will have to do.
Dinner with my little sister went swimmingly. She loved the Molyneux Quartz, and she loved the way I wrapped it, too: the box is deep blue with white sides and a gold band across the front, so I wrapped it in white tissue and put a blue sleeve of tissue around it plus a piece of gold ribbon, and I sewed a gift bag like a paper lunch sack out of blue and white fabric plus more gold ribbon. Itās worth taking the time to make things special, I think.
What an amazing gift and the presentation sounds beautifulš
Your sister must have been thrilled to receive it. I agree with you that the extra touches make all the difference.
What a lovely and thoughtful gift and presentation.
How nice for both of youš
What an inspirational story of wrapping!
How sweet!
I love all of this, you’re very talented!
Glad to hear you and your sister had a lovely dinner together. Your gift was the cherry on top of it all!
Remembered my rabbits! SOTD is Boswellia Scotia (again), and itās really becoming a favorite for fall. It and Fischersund 101 together might constitute my perfect evergreen forest scent ⦠but theyāre both so beautiful as they are that I canāt bear the thought of layering them. Maybe wear them both but on separate wrists? Note for therabbitsflower: I saw your reply very late yesterday ā thank you! ā and am looking into the LVNEA line with great interest.
My poll responses:
Well, clearly the fragrance I want to add is that perfect forest scent that I havenāt found yet. And with the ridiculous number of blind buys Iāve indulged in lately, Iām kind of hoping the search takes a while ā my wallet needs a break.
My collection has mostly been culled down to things I really love or things I want to keep for reference, but Miller Harris Etui Noir is one that just never worked for me, so off the island it goes.
Fantasy fall getaway would be to a remote, woodsy cabin, either in the Vermont mountains or on Orcas Island, to leaf peep while sipping hot cocoa in a rocking chair on the front porch, bundled up in down and fleece. The fragrance Iād take would be Dryad (if Vermont) or Boswellia Scotia (if Orcas).
I love hearing about your ongoing Forest Quest and won’t deny that you have inspired some longing in me to try both those scents!
Glannys wore a fragrance she said suited an elegant forest witch, if I recall correctly, but I donāt remember the scent. Perhaps she could help in your quest?
I think the mention youāre thinking of was to Ormonde Woman. I do own that one, and itās gorgeous. It has a black hemlock note that is forest-y (and witch-y), and I adore it, but itās not the answer to my Forest Quest (Iām adopting that, Denise). š
Yes, it was Ormonde Jayne Woman, but it sounds like SheriG wants something more photorealistic.
I’ll look forward to hearing your thoughts if you try the LVNEA scents!
NYC is buzzing with marathon runners ahead of tomorrow’s race.
Eau de Merveilles for the farmers market this morning. It was a bit chilly and I finally got to wear my “boot sale” hack jacket I bought for 10 pounds in the UK over the summer. Reading Polo by Dame Lily Cooper
1. Hermes Galop
2. None at the moment
3. I just came back a week ago from South America/ Panama so I feel I scratched that itch to get away…Hmmm…let me think about that one!
Earlier this week I mentioned that the man who founded my riding center passed away. His family seems very private about it, not even writing an obituary. I found a few lovely articles celebrating his extraordinary life! Happens to have met him
https://www.stjohns.edu/news-media/success-stories/george-e-blair-67edd
https://ny1.com/nyc/all-boroughs/nyer-of-the-week/2021/10/31/new-yorker-of-the-week–dr–george-blair?cid=share_clip
What an extraordinary man! Thank you for sharing this with us, Lovestosmellgood. What a loss for everyone whose lives he touched, near and far. My condolences.
He was an amazing man. Didnāt waste one moment of his life
Wow! This is so cool. Thank you for sharing.
Wow! What an extraordinary man! Thank you for sharing these articles. LTSG, will the academy be able to carry on without him?
He is an incredible human, ltsg. I hope there is some Galop in your future, and I hope you get the horse blush š
Itās always sold out – that blush!
ltsg – the Hermes blush with the horse was available on Nordstrom site the as of this morning!
I went to the website and itās sold out ! How does this happen? š
Ratz!!
Gotta move fast.
Thanks for posting those articles about your riding instructor. He truly was a modern-era Renaissance man.
La Belle Helene for me today, thanks to a wonderful NST swapper. I smell like a mouth-watering pear marzipan French tarte.
Hey I have a question for you all: Our younger son’s girlfriend (whom we’ve not yet met) told him that she likes ‘earthy scents, like oakmoss.” Since real oakmoss has been restricted for awhile, I’m not sure what that even means for a 25 year old. I would like to gift her a few decants and minis and was thinking EL Private Collection, Gucci I, Halston, but those are all old school and she might find them too ‘perfumey?” Also for earthy, I am mulling some woody/patchy things like TF Noir de Noir, Coromandel, and Tam Dao. I have a huge collection to choose from. What else comes to mind with ‘earthy & oakmoss?” I tend to have older scents, not so many new trendy ones. TIA.
George from Carine Roitfeld springs to mind–got a travel spray for very little $ when Net-a-Porter used to carry the brand. Not there anymore, but LuckyScent has it–galbanum, oakmoss, iris, earthy notes, violet leaf, cannabis, woody notes, leather, rose & jasmine.
Thank you galbanumgal. That also gives me ideas for scents with galbanum, iris, violet leaf, & leather.
Pear marzipan french tarte! Oo-la-la!
Yeah, I’d suspect the same thing…seems unlikely she knows what old school oakmoss smells like. If it were me, I’d do some samples instead and see if she likes any, and tell her NO hard feelings if she doesn’t!
Yes, the no hard feelings part is important. I also don’t want to overwhelm her, LOL
Iām of two minds ā on one hand, I think Robinās idea of a variety of samples could be fun for your sonās girlfriend ⦠but on the other, it might be really fun (for her, you, and even your son) to expose her to some fragrances with old-school oak moss. Maybe include some things from the 90s ā Jil Sander No. 4 comes to mind.
SheriG, thanks for the ideas, and yes, she is definitely getting some 90s things. She is Russian American and Russians like their perfumes so it’s possible she’s more sophisticated in her tastes if her mother liked and wore fragrance.
I hope it does turn out that she knows and likes the old school scents!
This post is for Akimon who in yesterday’s post was trying to find Strange Invisible Perfumes Vine. I have a bunch of small Strange Invisible vials filled with perfume but unmarked. (Found them at a vintage flea market). So I *might* have it and if so you’re welcome to it. I have been sitting on these vials a long time trying to ID them but am not familiar enough with all of the SIP fragrances to decode this mystery. If you know these fragrances, letās talk. You can reach me at denise (then type the ‘at’ signe) denisehamilton dot commmmm no spaces. If anyone else is familiar with SIP please also get in touch.
Hello from Kuala Lumpur!
Sotd is Borntostandout Gold Juice. I was skeptical of the durian note at first because it’s not a pleasant smelling fruit but here there’s no funk, just adds some creaminess and “ripeness” to the mango. Perfect tropical/sunshine scent.
My answers:
1. LV Fantasmagory. I’ve only read about it and I already want it quite a bit. But no blind buy for something so costly!
2. V&R Bon Bon. Bought it years ago and maybe worn it 5 times. Cute bottle but that’s it. Not memorable.
3. I am travelling already and like where I am so I’ll answer with what I brought with me. MMM From the Garden. A delicious tomato leaf scent that is plush and green and blooms nicely in the heat.
Hello back to Kuala Lumpur! I could have gotten you a sample of Fantasmagory if only Iād known when I purchased City of Stars in Friday. You might try calling the 866 number for LV and tell them what you want. In the spirit of the season, they might comp you one.
Ooh that’s a great idea! I will try once I get back.
Hope your Fantamasgory comes true! š
Hope you are having the most wonderful time!!
Thank you Robin, I am loving my time here. So much yummy foods to try, I think I am doing 4 meals a day!
I am sure! Why miss anything wonderful??
How exciting, hope you are having the best time!
Oh, have a wonderful time!
Happy Saturday! Hope yāall had a good Halloween and arenāt suffering from any sugar hangovers.
1. I got it! Was able to order City of Stars from the store, not Evil Bay. Arriving 12/23. š And the gal at the 866 number was delightful, making it a fun experience. She encouraged me to send myself a gift card. I had her put down, « Hang in there. 2026 will be better!Ā Ā» Poetry, it aināt!
2. JM Lime Basil & Mandarin Orange. Now that I have a tiny collection, I have other citrus and other herbal scents.
3. My cousins brought over gorgeous roses from their garden yesterday, and I realized I donāt have a single floral rose scent, just spicy rose ones. So I would like to go to Grasse to smell the roses!
P.S. Forgot my rabbits! š š
Also forgot my Sotd: PG Indochine w BumBum CrĆØme layer.
So glad you found your perfume!
Thank you lillyjo! A nice surprise to be sure.
But the perfect gift card, and how nice of her to encourage you to do it!
Robin, the customer service was some of the best Iāve ever received tbh. I was impressed, given the small size, compared to their other wares, of my purchase. I also got two samples she added in: Afternoon Swim and Sun Song.
Robin, how was your trip? Did it bring you closure?
It was fine, thanks for asking!
I did not really need closure, or maybe I don’t expect closure from funerals, I don’t know. I just needed to be there to support my stepmother (she had lots of family around her and so I was one more). She is coming to visit next weekend so that is good, she is having a really hard time.
Yay! Glad you got your bottle directly from LV and had wonderful customer service to boot. Win win!
Forgot my rabbits which is no surprise.
1. I just added SL Chergui to my collection. This was enabled by Denise who kindly sent me a sample. I received my bottle today so it is my SOTD.
2. I possibly would vote Shalimar-Jasmine off the island if I had to get rid of one. After I purchased LāEssence, the other ones arenāt doing it for me right now. Maybe they will again eventually.
3. I am glad to be home right now so nowhere I feel like going to at the moment.
Chergui is so perfect for this time of yearš
I would agree with you!
Iām not familiar with that scent, but I trust itās another impeccable choice! Glad youāre home and happy to be there with Mr K!
If you like Indochine, you may like it. Chergui has the amber, spicy and honey smell in it like Indochine. However, to me Chergui is stronger than Indochine. This is probably due to the hay and tobacco notes.
Congratulations on your new bottle! It took me years to appreciate Chergui. On paper, I should love it so occasionally I’d try my sample, and one day it just clicked and we’ve been friends ever since š
š
Sotd is CdG Daphne. I like how it (or I) has aged since I got a bottle. It’s rounder and smoother. At first it felt like Antoine Lie had plunked tuberose over Rien and now they are quite happy together.
1. Still wisftfully searching for a bottle of ÅillĆØres
2. Capsule Parfums Covey. It was a bit of an impulse purchase and I just don’t reach for it.
3. I’d be up on Lopez Island in the San Juans in a cozy house with a fireplace. I’d probably wear another Roberto Greco masterpiece, Rauque for the Violet Leaf, Mushroom and Pine Tar accord.
Daphne grew into itself, how nice!
Really cool that your bottle of CdG Daphne got better with age.
Remembered my rabbits!
My arm is sore from flu shot, but all else is okay.
SOTD is 2012 Naomi Goodsir Bois d’ Ascense.
Off the island is Gucci Memiore. I don’t remember when I bought it and clearly, I have never opened it.
Am awaiting my shipment of Deixis from Mr. Fazzolari.
I am yearning for the original Aedes de Venusta. I have some left still in the original bottle and I hestitate over the price and size of the newer ones. I wish AdV would sell minis or travels of their signature scents.
We missed our getaway to NYC due to me being sick.
Right now we are okay with that. I remember a lovely fall in Lysine Switzerland, just on the cusp of winter.
Reading How to Read a Book by Monica Woods – really nice read. And only two more episodes of The Diplomat – yikes.
I am still bothered that I had zero reaction from the flu shot, I feel like it didn’t “take”, ha.
I join you in BEGGING Aedes to do travel sizes!
It’s the over 65 shot, Robin. Methinks you aren’t there yet.
Soon enough though! I should have asked for it, I hate side effects but they do at least convince me I’ve accomplished something, LOL…
You smell wonderfully smoky and cozy in Bois d’Ascese.
I have a lot of AdV Signature from the old bottle (don’t know if the juice has changed). Ping me if you would like me to send you a hefty decant.
l es lic o rt el l aaaat geeee male
Oh allo!! Thank you so much for the offer. I will shoot you an email.
I tried to put in the word for travel sizes / smaller bottles when I was there in 2023. I was there for the weekend, I had to carry on (so it had to be under 100 ml), and I had been clothes shopping and needed to stay under my duty limit. I ended up leaving with Nomenclature Minted, because they sold it in a manageable bottle.
I meant it then and still mean it — manageable sizes mean you’ll sell more. Bless PdN for that, so I can come home from Paris with perfume even in my carry on.
In Venice Rococo, to see if I “need” the 30 ml size. Sample is in a dabber, and though I do like this, not sure I can handle a robust spray–it’s very powdery. Still, it comes across as cheerful to me.
Oh, I liked this so much that I bought the FB. And I’ve worn it a lot, and gotten compliments. I don’t mind powdery, but it seems to me it has more going on and I enjoy wearing it. Some beautiful flowers, a tang of orange, creamy rose, and other notes. It reminds me a bit of lipstick rose.
REceived my luckyscent samples order. Trying Parle Moi de Parfum Looking for Vanilla edp.
Decidedly meh for me. Something in the vanilla that isn’t for my skin. It’s got the plastic doll head thing that one of my friends loves but gives me a slight headache.
That’s why we sample! And this one is going to end up with my friend lol.
Happy Daylight Savings Night everyone!
Had you tried their other vanilla? Now I can’t remember the name.
And yes, this is why we sample!
I have not. I am not sure if i will now. I love Milky Musk, am thinking of getting a decant of that when i get through that sample.
Gotcha.
Felt like I needed something old-school today, so I went with Dunhill For Men, (1934.) Citrus, spice, flowers, leather, oak moss, and woodsy notes. I don’t remember where/when my bottle came from – maybe it’s pre-allergen era? Or maybe just pre-pandemic? At any rate, whether or not it resembles the original 1934 fragrance, which of course I’ve never smelled, it’s good stuff. In today’s climate, it falls into “masculine” territory, but I’d love to smell this on a woman.
Tomorrow I start my week of Classic 1970s perfumes.
Happy weekend, everyone!
I think the Dunhill sounds amazing.
Yeah, itās really good, and definitely from another era. I feel like this wouldnāt be released now, for men or women. Sort of a rough and tumble combo of Old Spice, Cuir de Russie and Knize 10. (Happy to share, by the way, so drop me a line via my linked name if you have trouble finding it.š)
Thank you!
Knize 10. Gorgeous.
Looking forward to your 70s week.
Hello, all, and happy Saturday.
We had no trick or treaters as usual yesterday, and no party to go to, but I wore 1000 Flowers Reglisse Noire and was happy with that.
Today I’m in Lutens Fille en Aiguilles. We had a stormy morning but got out for a walk in the afternoon. The leaves are coming down fast and they’re so beautiful!
We had no candy and the front lights were off since I was on my way home…but the last time I was prepared we got fewer than 10, IIRC? So I think Halloween is on hiatus in my neighborhood, which is mostly populated with teens at the moment.
Cloudy and chilly today, so I warmed up with LMDLV Vanille Fleurie de Tahiti. Despite its name and the ylang ylang note , itās not very tropical, mostly a slightly sweet, slightly powdery, rather heavy, vanilla. Definitely warming!
Weekend Poll: Need more time to think for questions 1 and 3, hereās my #2 response:
2. The one to go off the island first is Dior JāAdore. I won a large bottle of this when it first came out at a fragrance fair. Despite its popularity, I didnāt care for it then and though I try it every now and then, I still donāt really like it.
Back to the ballgame. Go Blue Jays š¦ā¾ļøš¤
Sorry about your Blue Jays Laila!
(And I don’t like J’Adore either)
Didnāt get around to posting yesterday – long day which ended with my sonās football team losing to one of their main rivals. Cold night game. I wore my lucky perfume, Stash, didnāt help. Plus my son seemed down in the dumps and my sister in law said he told her he didnāt the get job that he was interviewing for last week – we hadnāt heard because we hadnāt asked about it, not wanting to distract from game preparation (she doesnāt always have the same sensitivities). So thatās a bit of a dark cloud over the weekend. Itās a tough market and he doesnāt seem to be getting any other traction at the moment.
Here are my answers, though!
1. I canāt really think of anything I want although was browsing Sephora and saw a travel spray of JM Ginger Biscuitā¦
2. Of my full bottles, I have two that I never seem to reach for – Goutal Quel Amour and Lolita Lempicka. I would probably keep the LL for the bottle as I have a number of the Apple bottles.
3. Years ago we did fall in Vermont. I would love to go back at the height of the color, stay in the Green Mountain Inn at Stowe (site of many ski trip adventures) and wear Ormonde Woman.
Aw, sorry about the double bad news!
Sorry for your sonās disappointments. And the growth of AI is not helping those searching for a new job very much.
Good Sunday morning from the clear and sunny Midwest. It is beautiful here. Our day yesterday involved a lot of driving and while the leaves are dropping quickly, there is still lots of beautiful color to enjoy. And I confess to rolling down the window to get a whiff of leaf smoke, too.
I am copying MMKinPA in Stash today, the hair mist.
Poll:
1. I would most like to have a bottle of the original Commes des Garcons as my bottle is almost empty. I don’t need another bottle of anything.
2. Maybe Yesterday Haze, I just never reach for it any more.
3. I’d like to be in Montana visiting my sister. I haven’t seen her since 2019. She’s allergic to everything so I would take a little bit of Shalimar to wear at night.
Enjoy the rest of your day, everyone š¹
Sounds like we are having the exact same weather!
Oh, that’s a long time to not see a sister!
Yes, beautiful weather continuing for a few more days. š
Even though I am still in vintage Shalimar, I am debating on if I should go the no 22 extrait route or Coromandel extrait route today. Going to a Judy Collins concert this afternoon and don’t want to really overdo it. So it’s off to the shower with me.
Oh how cool, and how was the concert? I have never seen her live.
Oh, nice concert! Iāve never seen her live either.
I somehow got distracted yesterday, I started looking at the Weekend Poll, but didn’t get very far. I’ll catch up on your comments this evening.
I’m wearing Armani PrivĆ© Rose Alexandrie today.
Hope it was a fun kind of distraction Gaynor š
Hi everyone,
I have some fun news to share: I’m now an aunt! My new little nephew was born a week ago today. He had to come out a little early, but everyone is doing well. I hope I’ll get to see him in person in March or April next year–my brother and his wife are living in Doha, which is so far away. But they’re planning on spending the summer in the US, so that’s great.
My poll answers:
1. I’d like a 50mL bottle of L’Artisan’s DrĆ“le de Rose. Too bad it’s discontinued, along with most of their 50mL sizes. Boooo.
2. Not sure.
3. I’d like to be in a cozy cabin in the north woods with good books, a nice fireplace, and beautiful walking paths.
Oh whoops, forgot the fragrance to add to my 3rd response! I think L’Orpheline would work well for my fantasy getaway.
Congratulations, Auntie Socks!!
Thank you apsara! I love that, Auntie Socks!
Congratulations! What an exciting time for you.
Thanks Jalapeno!
What fun, a nephew!!
Thanks Robin!
Congratulations, that’s exciting news! Your #3 choice sounds wonderful, including how you would scent it.
Thanks ringthing!
Congrats on being a new Auntie šØāš¼!
Thanks Laila!
SOTD = Tam Dao, and I notice I am running low. Should I get more of this, or try another sandalwood? Le Labo 33 doesn’t do much for me, what is a really sandalwood forward scent to consider? Maybe Tiger’s Nest, but it is a lot of incense too, I think, I used up my sample quickly and have not thought of it is a while. Some Autrailian or New Zealand scent? Or one of the old classics? i can’t do Samsara, I love it but I had a nasty break up during the Samsara everywhere era, and the last time I tried it is still makes me cry…
After raving about Irisss I seem to be suddenly tired of it. Maybe I will let it go.
We are starting to get ready for our annual Thanksgiving trek to Florida, so that is where I am thinking about going. Little old auntie lives in a nice complex with a pool and a great hot tub, and I am hoping the weather is appropriate for me to just spend my days in the pool, while adorable hubby and little old auntie, a college jock from the ’30’s, watch Football everyday, all day. I can do some knitting and take it for a while, but where i am from, sports that didn’t involve large annoyed animals, ropes (as in rodeo) or guns (as in hunting) didn’t really count at sport….
Adorable Hubby and I are going to a late breaking Halloween party tonight, I guess maybe this is a Day of the Dead party instead. Hubby bought a Guy Fawkes mask, and made sure his black hoodie fit around it I dug out an old white sheet and will cut a coulple holes and tape the sheet around my sunglasses with the red lenses, andn that will be that for me. Minimlist costumes….
Have a good weekend, one and all.
I love two of the older, classic sandalwoods: L’Artisan Santal and MPG Santal Noble. In both cases, you do get mainly sandalwood. I own some sandalwood versions by SL and Santal Blush by Tom Ford but came to feel blah about them; but mind you, I like a very dry sandalwood.
Your description of your old auntie is hilarious!
Her body is getting decrepit, but her mind is as sharp as a tack, and she continues to be a spitfire. Probably why she lives half a continent away from the rest of her family. But adorable hubby loves her. So we go and have a nice time. š
The best sandalwood I have found recently is Miller et Bertaux Indian Study; for a bone-dry sandalwood try Villoresi Sandalo.
Go ahead and get more Tam Dao. If you wear it enough to empty a bottle, it’s true perfume love.
Yes, I am sure I will. It would be nice to have a little variety!
Benjoin 19 to meet a friend and see ” If I had legs I Would Kick You.”
I made need to refill this bottle.
Wow, that looks like a heavy movie, how was it?
It was heavy, dark and comic.
Thanks.
Tauer L’Aire du Desert Morocain Noir today, from a sample. Rich, opulent, not as dry as the original. More sweetness. It is intense, makes a big presence. Fills up your senses. I could see this becoming overwhelming, especially for sensitive noses. I might be that today! But could also be becuase it is a spray, which applied more juice than the dabbers i usually apply L’ddM with.
Luckyscent started using sprayers for their samples, which is nice but in this case i would prefer a dabber for more control.
Thanks for your review on L’Aire de Desert Morocain Noir!
I thank you too, does not sound like something for me.
I liked it a lot, and with a bottle of LADDM, am satisfied with the sample.
So I washed it off a few minutes after posting. That brought it down to managable levels on my skin, but my desk area smelled like it all day from teh spray zone lol. Noir reminded me of Kenzo’s Jungle L’elephant – very powerful.
Beautiful. But definitely a dabber. And I think the drier version of the original is best for me. Noir has a roundness that will be very pleasant to some folks.
I’ve been wearing it against LADDM over the past couple of weeks. I don’t find it necessarily sweeter, but it is WAY stronger. I have to keep reminding myself to smell my LADDM-scented arm first, because if I smell Noir first the LADDM disappears. I’m kind of interested, but there’s too much overlap and my bottle of LADDM will last me for a good long while. So probably not.
Commando for Sunday after a rough night with a 3:30 am wake-up.
Hope everyone had a good (and much more energetic than I) Sunday.
Robin, did we get this Fridayās CP? I didnāt see it on the main CP list, but I may just be too tired.
Second this. Keep checking for the CP but don’t see it!
Sorry guys! I have been too busy. It is Monday now and I’m going to get to it any minute…
Happy Monday!
SOTD is Penhaligon’s Blenheim Bouquet. Sipping a dry cider and waiting for a community theme to drop.
Ciders and meads say “Fall” to me. Prost!
š„
It’s Monday, and my cat is bewildered by the drop in temperature here. Wearing Mona di Orio Suede de Suede, which I love. Wish this house was still around. But I refuse to ration my wearing of something just because it’s not easily available anymore. I love the cloudberry note in this, and the long lasting dry down.
I am so out of it I didn’t realize they had closed again. Sorry!
Wering my tuberose bomb, DS & Durga Durga today, this is great in the cold, the notes come through and the cold holds down the overwhelming to some projection that comes with tuberose. š
Have to go get horsey aspirin (a controlled substance in horse world) from the vet so the old pony can bend her knees and hocks enough for the farrier to get her next pedicure. Given the ongoing problems with my hip, I understand her not wanting to shift all her weight to just one leg in the front…poor old dear.
Aww, I too feel for the poor old horse with her stiff joints. Hope all goes well with the farrier.
That old pony is 36 years old, she could tell some stories if she could talk.
Wow! Good luck to her!
She is a sweet old girl and I spoil her with supplements and love. š
Happy Monday!
Realized that Fragranticaās notes had left out some of my floral rose scents, so in honor of the unexpected gift of the rose bouquet from my cousinsā garden, Iām going to wear them this week.
Sotd The Harmonist Florae Nebulae, an Amber Floral.
Top notes are Bergamot, Bitter Orange and Pink Pepper;
middle notes are Apricot, Bulgarian Rose and Datura;
base notes are Vanilla, Musk and Amber.
Overlapping scent of the Nebula and the Yin collections. I find the pepper and bitter orange sublimated to the rose, with the overall sensation being lying in a massive pile of flowers and apricots (or perhaps Iām channeling my favorite fall memory of flying on top of a pile of brilliantly bright leaves), drying down to a luscious, soft amber finish.
Wanted to shout out the Toronto Blue Jays and their fans here and everywhere (I see you Prince Harry). They played spectacularly! Game 7 was historic, and could have gone either way multiple times during the entire series. I hope they the Jays win it all next year! And in general, Canadians are terrific and the nicest folks in my experience!
A beautiful fragrant week to all!
Congrats to your Dodgers! It was a great series to watch. Yes, Ohtani is everything they say he is, but in MHO no one deserved the MVP award as much as Yamamoto and Iām so glad he won it.š
Monday morning, and Iām a bit under the weather but persevering. Spent the past 36 or so hours in Bois dāHadrien in my ongoing Forest Quest to give it a really thorough test, and itās not the answer. BdH has definite Hadrien-ness, but on me its evergreens are a bit pale. But it is quite lovely (Mr. G agrees) and fills a need for a scent that Just Always Works, my skimpiest category, so the experiment was a success ā just not the expected one.
Meanwhile, this morning I needed something soothing, and the hand went to the vial of Ormonde Woman parfum. I have no idea when or how that entered the collection as itās a manufacturerās sample. No matter ā itās gorgeous and Iām happy to have it.
ah, SheriG-I was hoping it would fufill your forest dreams! Sorry it wasn’t pine-y enough, but glad it works as a blind buy. Dans Tes Bras also has a pine note, but it’s even more subtle than Bois d’Hadrien.
No worries ā successful blind buys are always fun, even if (or maybe especially if) they arenāt quite as expected. Iāve never tried Dans Tes Bras but the name always makes me smile because it comes out sounding like āDanteās Braā. Juvenile, but giggle-worthy. š
Hope you feel better tomorrow.š¤
Thanks, Laila. Me too!
SheriG, I have a sample of Annick Goutal Nuit Etoilee EdP. Would you be interested in it?
Youāre very kind to offer, but I wonāt trouble you. The AG EDPs (aside from Bois) have been disappointing, so Iām going to stalk the web for the edt version. Looks like thereās a fair amount of it out there, and prices are all over the place so I might stumble upon a deal. š¤
Monday and I am still commando but I think I’m going to wear Daphne today, prompted by Allo’s mention of it above.
My answers:
1. Oddly for me, I have no particular perfume lusts at the moment. However, I’ve got some samples coming in the mail soon and expect to acquire a lust soon (ha ha, if that way of putting things isn’t too odd!).
2. I have a lot of things I don’t wear and should sell or give away. First to go is Chergui (sorry folks it’s already promised to someone).
3. Fall trip–I just had it, when I was able to stay at a fabulous huge home on Lake Winnepesaukee in New Hampshire, with a roaring fire, good food, a hot tub, and an appetite picking outing!
In other perfume news, at my recent conference in Baltimore I saw some of my fellow perfume fans and one of them had samples for us to try from a inexpensive called AetherArtsPerfume, on Etsy (no affiliation!). They are perfume oils, not expensive, and some are pretty odd. I tried one called Mayan Chocolate and could not stop sniffing my wrist for the rest of the day. I’ve now ordered that plus two others, one called Love for Three Oranges and the other Be My Bunny (a creamy coconut musk). At $15 each they are cheap thrills. And, special shoutout to LTSG, there’s one called Stirrup: “a Perfume for the love of Horses. Featuring notes of: Apples, Grass, Hay, Leather, Musk, Oud, and wood notes.” I have not tried this or the others, mind you. Oh, and I ordered a fourth, called Rich Cream: “Lush, Milk Perfume. Fresh Milk, Sweet Cream, Lactonic Jasmine & Tuberose, Sheer Vanilla, Pearlescent Musk, Silky Sandalwood.” There’s a kitten musk one too….
Just thought I’d mention it for fun.
I should always proofread, shame on me. “APPLE-picking outing”–darned autocorrect! The stay up in New Hampshire was for my book club, which has met for five years now on Zoom, and we’ve been through a lot together virtually, including the deaths of two of our members–but this was our first in-person get together. We’re reading Beowulf now and sat around the cozy living room all wearing our hilarious Viking hats that the hostess had ordered for us–what a fun scene!
I so envy you this NH trip, especially with its book club theme. New England in the fall! Sounds awesome!
Calypso,
I remember one weekend my mom and dad drove from NY to Franconia Notch, NH to visit me when I was in college and they stayed at a gorgeous, warm, roaring fireplace B&B. Both children of the depression, they did all for us girls and not a lot for themselves and they loved every minute of their stay. It must have been around 1971?
I am so glad your group still meets. It warmed my heart.
You could work up quite an appetite apple picking. Just saying. ššš
You smell fabulous!
My sotd is YSL Opium. I should wear this more often. I remember wearing all the body products and lavishly spraying back in the day. Lol. Today I did 3 sprays.
For the questions-
1. I really want to try LPRN Honey Rose.
2. I have quite a few I could vote off my perfume island. I recently gave away my JhaG Mad Madame and KvD Sinner to someone at work. They just didn’t feel like me anymore.
3. I am dreading the winter weather and would love to go visit family in S.C.
I was hoping someone would report on your #1. I haven’t heard if anyone has tried it yet.
I haven’t really heard much about it at all. I think it was overshadowed by L’Essence.
That could be.
You smell wonderful today!
It was 83 degrees here yesterday. Ridiculous for November 2, and a little unsettling too.
Trade you any day. My 8 day forecast has snowflakes next Monday.
LOL! It was 25 degrees cooler than that today. But no snow in my forecast. It’s been 199 days since Denver last saw any snow.
Absolutely gorgeous autumn day today – clear blue sky, bright š, and temps near 60. Some trees dropping their leaves while others are first reaching peak color. Mr. Laila brought me 2 late-blooming š¹ š¹ from the garden this morning. SOTD YR Voile dāOchre with its sandalwood and cedar notes layered over BBW Fall in Bloom body products perfectly mirror the day.
For the weekend poll:
1. The only fragrance I would like to add is the same one Iāve been wanting for awhile, Vagabond Prince Enchanted Forest. Itās been too expensive for me, and now I see itās also out of stock in many places. Perhaps Iāll seek out another sample.
3. For a mini-fantasy fall trip really happening on Thursday to celebrate Mr. Lailaās birthday, Iām treating him to an overnighter at Starved Rock State Park for a Trolley Progressive Dinner. The trolley takes us to a winery for appetizers, then to a restaurant for dinner, then back to their Lodge for dessert. Nature and trees surround us, so Goutal Nuit Etoilee is my choice for the trip.
Wishing all a wonderful week ahead!ššš¦
How sweet of the misterš¹š¹
I love Enchanted Forest as well and my decant has about one wearing left.
That Trolley Progressive Dinner sounds amazing! Enjoy!
The trolley dinner sounds awesome! I might have to try it someday.
Late, late, late to the party. Busy weekend. Halloween, then Ockeghem Teen got older.
I remembered my rabbits! Fingers crossed for a good November for all.
Did my CP project a bit late, wearing La Curie Ossuary on Saturday. Not necessarily spooky, but the name is. Today I’m in Eau de Gaga, because I hadn’t worn it in a bit.
Poll:
1. Probably Hiram Green Ultra, after LT’s review of it on his Substack. (I was circling it before, I’m circling it more now.)
2. Maybe the Scentings Elizabeth Bennet scent my spouse bought me many moons ago, as it’s just straight lavender and I prefer more complication. The set was cute, the scent meh.
3. Not a fantasy — the getaway I’m leaving for in a couple weeks: Sicily! I’d take Azemour. But looking forward to trying Mendittorosa and Antonio Alessandria perfumes while I’m there — the former more likely, the latter only if I find time to get to Catania between 5 and 8 p.m. while I’m in Siracusa, which, hmm.
Safe travels! Is Ockeghem Teen coming along?
Ockeghem Teen just got back from London on a school trip, so now it’s my turn to travel. Just me, so I can do what I want! (A friend was going to meet me, but in the end it didn’t work out, so just me.)
Even later than ockeghem!
Commando again today. It was a rough weekend, not suited for wearing perfume. More on that later.
Poll answers!
1. Fragrance I’d most like to add this fall? Nothing at the moment.
2. Fragrance I’d vote off the island? L LAMB by Gwen Stefani. Last time I tried it, it was WAY too sweet for me. I should retry to see how it behaves in Colorado vs NJ.
3. Fantasy fall getaway? Maybe a quick drive up to Estes Park. The fall color is gone, but the elk remain. It’s been over 30 years since I was last there.
Sorry to hear about your rough weekend and hope that things are looking up this weekš Your fall getaway idea sounds lovelyš
Thanks allo.
That is one thing I realy miss about Wyoming, where if one has a free afternoon, the obvious thing to do is to drive 3 hours into the closest mountains to the highest point you can get to, just to look around and enjoy the view! Go to Estes Park, it’s lovely this time of year, before the roads get formidable. š
Hope you get back to Wyoming soon, to drive those wide open spaces.
