Happy Friday and happy International Mother Language Day. Birthdays: Anaïs Nin, WH Auden, Nina Simone, John Lewis, Alan Rickman. Our community project for today: we're doing Bucket List Friday...think of a place you'd like to go or a thing you'd like to do or something you'd like to accomplish, and wear the right fragrance for the experience.
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
I used to have something like a proper bucket list, mostly places I wanted to go before I die. I don't really think in those terms anymore, that is, I still wouldn't mind going to those places, but I don't particularly think it would make me any happier. At the moment what I'd like to accomplish is to meditate more, and be at peace with what I have (I have mostly stopped buying perfume but I have plenty of other avenues for stress shopping). So I went with a calming fragrance: Diptyque Tam Dao.
Reminder: on 2/28, we're doing here comes the sun...wear a fragrance with a solar or "sun-warmed skin" note.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2025, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Grand Amour
I love your SOTD 🙂 It’s so elegant.
Thank you!! I DO feel elegant today 🥰
Ooh, you smell great! I’d pair that with Paris.
I agree with your sentiment, Robin. I’m wearing vintage Caleche to remind me that the old ways are sometimes still the best.
Another vintage fan here, SarahN. (As you know!). I love a lot of new fragrances but I always circle back to the classics.
The classics are classic for a reason-I love them, too.
Ah, you smell great today!
Hermès does glamour so so well!!
I’m old-fashioned, so I love the old ways. My vintage Calèche will never be voted off the island.
I don’t have a bucket list either because in truth, I’ve been every place I’ve ever wanted to go: if I get to go back to some of them (Tokyo!), that’s a bonus, but I’m content. (We are taking a cruise in six weeks, but that’s more about the journey than the destination — 10 out of 15 nights at sea suits me fine.)
But our favourite time to travel is autumn, because you can usually rely on the weather not being too hot or too generally awful, so today I’m wearing my beloved fall standby Yves Rocher Nature Millénaire Pour Homme, because it smells exactly like the season — dry spices, dry leaves, wet earth, an absolutely perfect olfactory object.
I’ll have to try this one, pyramus! I love the women’s version.
It’s the journey, not the destination….🙌🙌🙌
Love your scent today. I, too, love the women’s version but have samples of the men’s and lady be that one, too.
Twins!🙌
I don’t have a huge bucket list, but one of the places I’d like to get to is Red Rocks in Colorado for a concert. I’d definitely wear Tam Dao. The other thing on my bucket list is a masters degree, maybe that’s crazy at my age, but I’ve always been a late bloomer. Other than that, I’d just like to maximize any time I can get with my family. My kids, my parents and my cousin.
I’m off today and have my annual check up later this morning. I think I’m (over) due for my shingles vaccine.😬 I’m seeing the PA because I had to reschedule my original exam that was with my doc on January 31. When I called to cancel they offered me her next available appointment in…September!? Uh yeah, that’s not gonna work for me was my response so they scheduled me with the PA. Ironically I know her from attending conferences together. It should be a pretty standard visit today because knock on wood I’ve got nothing going on now that my gallbladder has vacated the premises.
Happy Friday all! Hope the sun is also shining where you are!🌞
Never too late to get some more training/education/learn new skills. And it’s different as an adult-much better, IMO. Hope you get to realize this dream, madtowngirl .
Thanks carole! That’s kind of my thought as well, it’ll only be too late when I’m no longer here.
You and Robin smell wonderful. Hope the check up goes well!
Thanks! It did go well.👍
It’s never too late, not crazy and I hope you pursue a masters degree one day!!!!!
Thanks cm8!
Yes to Red Rocks – many years ago I saw James Taylor, Jimmy Buffett, Tom Petty and Steely Dan (on different occasions, of course – ha). It’s a wonderful venue.
Oh my gosh, Tom Petty at Red Rocks, I bet that was a great show!
I’m on their mailing list so I keep a watch out for what’s coming.
Believe it or not, that is better than my doctor…I was not able to get an appointment for a checkup for all of 2024. When I called to make an appointment in late 2023, I got January 2025. Ha!
Do get a master’s, why not?
Wow, yeah, I guess everyone is backed up. No one was going to the clinic during Covid so I think we’re still playing catch up, combined with the fact that there aren’t enough primary care providers.
And lots more of them left the field during covid. At my January 2025 appt, my doc told me she is retiring early, she’s had enough. So!
I don’t know your age and it doesn’t matter, but I went back to get my master’s degree in my middle 40’s. It did help me a lot for nursing administration and education opportunities. Now that I am retired and think back on it, I am very glad I did. Plus, no matter the age, it is good for your brain health to keep learning new things.
I’m 57, but I’ve really only been working for about 20 years because I stayed home with my oldest 2 when they were little and then went back to nursing school in my mid 30s. (My first degree was in psychology). I’m still trying to figure out what I want to do when I grow up.😉
Sun twins! Hope your appointment went well!
Thanks lillyjo, it did! We deserve this sun after several days of single temps earlier this week!🌞
Do it!
I did a Masters degree in my 40s. I did a Bachelors degree in French and Latin straight after high school, then a Masters in Public Administration much later. The latter was more practical, but less engaging 🙂 .
Thank you for the encouragement Gaynor!😄
My goal is to leave this earth with as few regrets as possible.
My dear departed brother in law had a quadruple bypass in his early 50’s and spent the next year getting his masters as he recovered and became a nurse practitioner for the remainder of his life.
GO FORTH!
That’s a great goal, and wow, that is an inspirational story! Thanks apsara!
I agree with the previous posts. Go for it! Because you never know. 😉
Seeing a favorite band/artist at Red Rocks is so worth it! Be sure to hydrate like crazy there, though. The sun is merciless in the summer.
PS. Go for that advanced degree!
Robin, I’m not a bucket list person either, though I wouldn’t mind experiencing Leningrad’s White Nights, though not under the current regime. My choice for today’s CP is Guerlain’s Cologne du 68. (Later there was a Parfum du 68 as well but I haven’t tried that one.) I always associate Cologne du 68 with the Paris student revolts of 1968 but that is probably wrong, I suspect they smelled more like Gauloise ciggies, BO, and Molotov cocktails. And entitlement, as many of them were the children of the elite. I’ve spent time in Paris so it doesn’t qualify for bucket list. My biggest olfactory memory of Cologne du 68 is not of France but of traipsing through (non-touristic) Roman neighborhoods wearing it when I visited my friend who lives there. I’d taken a decant with me and was heartily sick of it by the time I thunked it, but enough time has passed that I can once more enjoy its strange and beautiful anisic herbal qualities and smooth as silk musks melded to the famous Guerlinade. It’s quite an outlier in the Guerlain pantheon, methinks. More like a juiced up Aqua Allegoria along the lines of Ylang Vanille in its chewy density, though composed of different ingredients. Happy Friday everyone.
Cologne du 68 has really grown on me over the years, I think I originally found it a little dull and now to me it is one of the perfect no-brainers.
DeniseH, what olfactory insight…Gauloises, BO, Molotov cocktails, and entitlement! Wow!
I’m with LesLiesse – your writing is fabulously evocative. Now I’ve got to try Cologne du 68!
Bucket list, Jordan…SOTD Encens Mythique.
Oh, nice one!
You smell fabulous!
Smelling wonderful. I almost grabbed that today.
EM is getting lots of compliments today
Whenever I wear this, I get compliments too. You smell amazing!!
You are really creating a lemming for me with all the talking about Encens Mythique! 😄
I would try before you buy!
👍
Seconding what LTSG said. Encens Mythique is not a safe blind buy.
Lovely sentiments, Robin.
I love visiting new locations, but my strongest yearnings are to return to my favorite places. The problem, as I’ve gotten older, is that I don’t much like the “getting there.” Air travel is terribly uncomfortable for my six foot, three inch frame, (with a cranky lower back,) and the packing and planning stresses me out.
So in my travel fantasy I fly first-class with only carry-on luggage, since I’ll arrive in London or Rome or Paris and hit the finest shops to purchase a new travel wardrobe.😎
Today began with, if you can believe it, a generous splash of Aqua Velva Ice Blue (1935) to my face. I have never tried it before, but my extended foray into classic “male” fragrances led me to it. And it’s much more pleasant than I expected! Quite minty, with hints of moss, citrus, maybe some vetiver in the background. It’s more of a sensation than an actual fragrance – there’s a mentholated feeling that “firms and tones,” as the bottle says. What scent it has is gone after half an hour, so I’ll move on to something else shortly.
Happy Friday, all!
I love those classic scents, Daniel. Many men I work with receive those nice gift sets for Christmas and they use them. They remind me of blue collar uniforms, the smell of fuel, cigarettes and gum-basically the scent of hard working people 🙂
Fuel, cigarettes, and gum. That’s wonderful, Carole. (Notes for a new Antoine Lie perfume.😊)
Daniel, that’s my travel fantasy too! The only concrete thing I regret about not being filthy rich is stress-free travel. I was in a bizarre snit the week I found out about timeshare private jets…
That’s a captivating fantasy Daniel, especially no luggage except a carryon 👍! Perhaps you would want to meet up in Grasse with allô, springpansy and me as we indulge in our newly minted bucket list item of fragrance buying “sur place” in France after you’re done with Rome. Delighted Aqua Velva is Sotd. Brings back happy happy memories for me.
The no-luggage clause is key.😊 See you in Grasse!
Oooo – so excited to be included in the trip to Grasse! Let’s go!! ♥
Of course you’re included. In fact, everyone would be included on this bucket list trip that wants to come! Whoever would go, I think should also split the cost for Robin, the founder of our feast, to go gratis!
I was able to fly without luggage once. It was fun, but felt so strange!
I feel like there’s a very interesting story here if you want to share!
I think air travel becoming so completely unenjoyable is part of why I don’t feel the travel urge as much as I used to. It’s was never really fun but now it is just the pits.
Yes, whatever romance or elegance that air travel once held is long, long gone. For decades, really, it’s just felt like a cramped bus ride at 38,000 feet.
FWIW it’s cramped for we 5’5” folks, not just you 6’3” ers, although I imagine it’s far far worse the taller you are.
Agree 100%
ITA Robin! But then our bucket list trip to Grasse is flying on Air Imagination/ First Class. Perhaps Francois Kurkjian will do a custom fragrance for it like he did for Air France 😉
My SOTD covers a few bases-it’s Hermes Voyage, EDP. I’ve ad this for years and decided to open it today. It’s a refill so doesn’t have the beautiful bottle. Loads of lemon and cardamom in the opening.
I never had the opportunity to travel much but I would like to cycle in Spain, and I’d like to be on a beach with black sand, which I associate with Greece. I’m embarassed by my lack of travel. I either didn’t have the funds or the time off to really see the world.
I don’t think you should be embarrassed by your lack of travel. I know a lot of people who think travels make them more interesting but that’s often not the case. Not to mention those who seem to travel in order to fill their socials with photos and videos from the most ‘viral’ places.
There are people who travel less and live much more interesting and fulfilling lives 🙂
NinaV, thanks for the different perspective-I appreciate it.
well said NinaV!
And then there are plenty of people who travel but bring their American bubble with them and are not open to new experiences. I still remember from years ago a lady in a Tirana Albania hotel who was peeved she couldn’t get a veggie omelet. There was a famous story about an American at a French coffee bar who wanted oat milk with his coffee and the waiter refused to make it and showed him the door and he was outraged. And an acquaintance of mine who drove a flock of Italian waiters crazy because she insisted on ordering oatmeal for breakfast. I forget the exact details she told me, but it was a fancy hotel and they were trying very hard to get the order right for fear of offending her. In the course of an hour, they brought her polenta, farro, and various other grains. But they didn’t have oats. She was quite exasperated when she told me the story. I couldn’t tell her what I really thought because of some delicate issues I won’t go into, but I did brightly suggest she try an Italian breakfast next time.
Those poor waiters!
Aiyiyi!
Voyage is lovely, and fitting!
Thank you, SarahN 🙂
We have a lot of black sand ( volcanic) beaches here, to add to your list. They get so hot under the sun that walking to the water can be a painful mission.
Kanuka, that’s New Zealand, right? I just started watching that new Acorn murder mystery series that’s set in NZ-looks so beautiful 🙂
Yes. There are many black sand beaches on the west coast of the country. Karekare, in the film The Piano is one.
I agree w NinaV. My family detested traveling or even vacationing- Dad’s running joke when people talked about travel plans was to say he was taking the last two hours of August off whether he needed it or not. I got my wanderlust when I was younger because we never went anywhere. If you really want to travel CaroleC, I bet you’ll devise a plan to make it happen!
I so appreciate your kind words, LesLiesse 🙂
Don’t be embarrassed! I myself am making up for lost time, as I didn’t leave the country for over a decade while our kids were small. And since then, my husband’s work takes him on frequent trips, so I often tag along. His travel means he has lots of mile points, which covers my tickets (and the kids’ if they come too). You’ll find a way when you’re ready. Hugs!
Don’t be embarrassed by your lack of travel. I have had the same issues: either I had the money, but not the time, or the time, but not the money.
I’m in Jardin sur le Nil today, as Egypt is a bucket list trip for me. It’s true that I have officially been to Egypt, but only for three nights for a conference that I was tasked with running. I was 23 at the time and worked for the model bad boss, who ran me ragged with petty requests. All I saw of Egypt was the ride from the airport to the hotel, the hotel, and a bit of the city from a taxi as I rushed around to change his ticket home at the very last minute because someone else had told him they were on a flight an hour earlier and he wanted to leave an hour earlier. The Egyptair office was closed by the time he decided this and the internet wasn’t so much of a thing back then. But I did get the ticket changed after banging on the office door for a while.
I never want to go back to a boss like that, but I do want to go back and actually see Egypt.
I would also bring Jardin sur le Nil in Egypt. IMO it’s a masterpiece 💚
Your experience sounds like the sequel to The Devil Wears Prada!
Yeah, except she actually had power, and my boss was kind of a pretender, so all the bad behaviour came from his insecurity. 🙂 But yeah, so much was about a power trip…learned a lot from that 18 months, like what kind of boss I was NEVER going to be. 🙂
I hope you get to experience Egypt proper one day!And come back south for a visit too!🤗🤗
Me too, on both points! So much more of South Africa to see!
I also had a boss like that once in my life…
Oooh, I’m so sorry.
I’ve repurchased this scent so many times, ockeghem. I think it’s beautiful and I notice there’s a dry oil in that scent. Years ago the Mousson scent came in that format and I loved it.
I only bought it a couple of years ago, but it really is lovely. And I can identify it, even through my cold. 😀
Great combination! Wow, those bad bosses can really ruin your day. And your travel.
Wow, that former boos of yours was an @$$hat!
ARGH, that should have been “boss”, not BOOS.
Well… I had planned to wear different scents on different days, but this week has been such a train wreck that the only time I actually stuck to the theme was Wednesday (I think??), when I wore 24 Faubourg – because to me, it radiates success, prosperity, and having everything under control.
And today, I’m wearing Robert Piguet Rose Perfection, because right now, I just want to be somewhere in a beautiful, peaceful rose garden, free from worries and fears.
I’m sorry the week has been so difficult for you. I would like to hope things will improve but who knows, let’s hope you’ll stay safe.
I wore 24F today for the same reasons!
It seems a lot of people feel this way about it. Smell of success!
I wish this for you also, Glannys.
Stay safe Glannys! I think of you often.
I hope life improves soon.
🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹
A dozen roses for you Glannys. Wish it were a real garden, with a bright winter sun warming you!
My heart is with you and your country, Glannys.
Glad to see you here,Glannys!🌹🌹❣️
Sending you a fragrant hug, Glannys.
Glannys, you and your country are in my mind and my heart! Hoping for better days…
Hugs Glannys!
Thinking of you and your people all week. 🤗✌️
I feel awful about your country’s situation. Thinking of you and yours.
I don’t know that RP but bet you smell great.
Glannys, I’m sorry it’s been such a horrible week for you. I hope that Rose Perfection is at least bringing you glimpses of peace and beauty. ❤️
Definitely thinking of you — I hope things get better.
Sorry to hear that your week has been rather craptastic. Been thinking about Ukraine a lot lately.
I wish I could be in your rose garden of peace, too.
Glannys, I have no words but I am thinking of you.
Thank you, friends.
Like so many others here, I’ve thought about you and Ukraine often this week. I’m so sorry for all the uncertainty (and more) you have to experience. Sending you a hug.
I love to travel and there are many, many places I would love to experience. In a perfect world, where I was perfectly rich, I would travel the world with an archeologist, a geologist, a biologist, a historian, etc., etc., to learn about the world. I’d be more fixated on the past than the present and future, and I’m not sure why. The remote past, human origins, pre homo-sapiens, all the way back as far as we can go…really, the best way to travel is time travel, but I’m not Dr Who, unfortunately.
SOTD is Devotion because it’s handy and uncomplicated.
What a riveting travel fantasy Deva!
That would be amazing! I travel with an historian (and used to be one myself), and have two geologists in the family, but would love to travel with an archaeologist.
Also my kid would love to be Doctor Who. She left the house to go to school today in the 13th Doctor’s coat and the 4th Doctor’s scarf. (Fan Fest is tomorrow. She and one of her good friends were going to go meet actors they like from the 10th and 11th Doctors — I think — and they just cancelled this week. At any rate, Mr. Ockeghem is happy because it appears Andy Serkis is still coming, so he can get his autograph on his combined LoTR book, in addition to Elijah Wood’s from last year. I am staying home…not my thing.)
Wouldn’t it be so cool to see Stonehenge being built, or the Pyramids when they were covered in white marble?
After trying it on several times I felt I just had to own the new Arquiste Venice Rococo and so yesterday I went and bought it. It’s a perfume that really needs to be sprayed on and it’s just so beautiful and soft. And yes I do really want to visit Venice one day. I’ve been to Italy but didn’t manage to get there and it’s sort of a dream place for me–that plus the Taj Mahal. It’s probably unlikely I’ll get there but I do like to dream about it.
Congratulations on your purchase!
Arquiste perfumes seem to really gel with you ? I think they’re really well done.
Yes that’s true, I have a fair collection of them now, and no regrets about any of them. (Maybe a tiny regret: I wish I had bought L’Or de Louis instead of Flor y Canto, because L’Or is of the same kind but better, but it was quite a bit more expensive because of the (ridiculous) inclusion of bits of gold and I refused the extravagance!) At the same time, I don’t like al of their fragrances; it just seems that of the ones I like, I REALY like them!
My SOTD is Escale à Portofino and I wouldn’t mind visiting Portofino, but maybe in low season when there is not a lot of jet-set around.
When I was 19 and I was studying Italian I spent three weeks in beautiful region of Liguria, visiting Genova, Cinque Terre, Camogli… but not Portofino. One reason to go back 🙂
Happy Friday, everyone 🌸
Sounds lovely…
You’ve made me want to drink Prosecco and eat fruitti del mare NinaV.
Cinque Terre is one of my fave places anywhere!!!
Mine too!!
That’d be a lovely vacation!
Wearing Infusion d’iris today because I drew a blank with the CP. Yesterday’s dentist appointment wasn’t so hot. I knew a couple teeth had to go but didn’t realize that 4 teeth have to go. So I have an appointment in April to get that done.
Always disappointing to get bad news but good for you for getting it scheduled.
So sorry about the dental news! But glad you got it scheduled.
Dental issues are the worst, and like springpansy says-good for you for getting it done. I feel for you.
Sorry to hear this but echo what everyone said about getting it done. Never pleasant though.
Ew, OUCH!
LL Patchouli 24 today for all the earthy smoky camping smells that I love.
No true bucket list here but one goal is to see more of my own country, the U.S. And I’m so looking forward to being back in one of my very favorite places this summer: camping (in our tent) on San Juan Island, at the little county campground on the west side where we kayak, hike, watch for Orcas and toast marshmallows.
That’s a nice part of the nice PNW!
Seeing more of the American West is on my bucket list too. I get to tag along on my husbands work trips to Europe so that has been most of our travel in recent years, but once he retires, I foresee some trips to National Parks.
I keep saying that I need to take my kid on the big tour of the U.S. West I did as a tween. But then, I also need to take her to tour Canada outside BC and Alberta. The latter is looking way more likely in the short term.
I remember how thrilled I saw to see dolphins off the East Coast. I imagine seeing orcas would be awe inspiring.
Today I’m wearing Beige in my friend’s honour: this spring she and I are fulfilling her longed-for wish to go to Paris! No site or activity will be too cliched, and she knows that I’ll want to do some sniffing…
Ooo! Love Beige
Excited for your trip!
Love Beige. You smell fantastic!
A tourist cliché is only a cliché because it’s worth seeing!
Very true!
How thrilling!
Wonderful!
Bon Voyage! Do ALL the things!
Bucket list is Morocco, I am wearing a Serge scent Fleur d’Oranger.
Morocco is my heart center
You smell amazing, Hera. I’ve seen pictures of the snow in Montreal-I hope your event tomorrow isn’t affected by the weather.
Thank you. I am crossing my fingers that they will clean the roads for tomorrow’s event if not we have to do it privately. So much snow, even the sidewalks are not cleaned.
Serge Lutens has some wonderful floral scents.
I am wearing Chanel No. 19 Parfum, and drinking a cup of calendula flower tea. The No.19 Parfum is bringing back memories of eleven years ago, when my Dad was alive and he and my Mom brought us to New York City around Christmas time. It was the first time I had ever smelled No. 19 and it was so delicious ! It is definitely a great memory.
My Dad passed away almost two years ago. I miss him so much.
I miss my Dad too.
He wore Boucheron homme and really wanted me to love the female version.
Such a great memory, I miss my Dad too, he used to wear Jules.
That really is a great memory Barqs. Sending hugs. I miss my Dad too.
I am sorry you are missing your dad. I think you are remembering him well. Hugs to you.
What a lovely memory, Barqs. I’m glad you had that lovely time with him.
Barqs, this is a Christmas fantasy come to life and YOU LIVED IT and smelled it for that matter as No. 19 brings it right back. I’ll join the chorus: I miss my dad too!
Nice Parfum! I miss my dad as well — it had been 10 years since this past December.
Thank you for sharing this beautiful memory.🤗
Dads are so special.
I love reading how special your Dads were to ya’ll also. And also, the fragrance memories 🙂
My Mom has also started wearing Chanel No. 19. She wears the EDT version. It smells wonderful on her.
Glad No 19 parfum brings back that memory of time spent with your parents in NYC.
Smelling beautiful today Barqs.
Hello and tgif!
I don’t really have a bucket list, though there are places that I would love to visit if I have the chance. One of them is Greece since I love historic sites and am fascinated by their mythology. So my sotd is Philosykos.
Beautiful combo of CP and bucket list!
Perfect combo! Greece is on my bucket list to visit with my husband. I spent a summer there during college for a study program and loved it, but haven’t been back since. And he has never gone there. Such a beautiful, fascinating country!
Greece is on my list, too, for similar reasons.
I am in some Greek taverna by the sea, eating olives, drinking ouzo and smelling of Philosykos.
That was my idea for the CP, but I craved citrus so I went with a different scent 🙃
HAGW happy888cat!
My sotd is 24 Faubourg. I always wanted to be a confident beautifully put together independently wealthy lady. Lol.
The Sun is out and it’s 30 degrees! My spirits have been lifted!
Hope everyone has a great weekend!
I hope your meeting went okay. Glad the sun is out. Happy weekend
Thanks Kanuka. It went well enough. I have to go back next week for a final meeting.
Happy weekend friend!24 Fauborg is so gorgeous!
Happy Weekend!
Lillyjo, you always lift our spirits!!! May your bucket list come true (buy a lottery ticket because you’ve got a huge balance in The Karma Bank)!!! Happy weekend !
Ha! I’m in karma credit debt!
Thank you for the sweet sentiment.
24 Faubourg is so classy.💛
I too would love to be a wealthy, put together lady, and not an anxious mess I usually am 😆 But hey, at least perfumes allow us to pretend for a while!
Exactly!
You smell great! Glad the meeting went well even though you have to go back again.
Thank you!
We can all be what we want when we have a perfume that makes us feel that way, right? Of course, you smell fabulous. 24, Faubourg is the most luxurious perfumes I can think of. Luxurious in a refined, confident way. Enjoy it!
It’s my fanciest smelling perfume for sure.
24 Faubourg has this effect on me too😀. Glad you’re in good spirits today Lillyjo.
It really helped to see the Sun.
Glad that your meeting yesterday went well AND the sun is out for you today!
24F is very luxe. Easy to imagine living the glamorous life while wearing it. 😉
https://youtu.be/6Zqtl8azCs8?feature=shared
I had to do it. Lol.
Hah! That was the exact song I was thinking of!
Smelling lovely my friend.
Thank you!
Been so lucky to have traveled a lot. I wish I could take my sister to Iran to see the beauty of the country and to Jordan. She wants to go to Petra, I have already been.
A compromise will be had about that one; one place for her and one for me. Maybe a few days in Instanbul, a city I do love to visit.
Follow up on le labo Eucalyptus 20. Its’ a no go for me. I couldn’t get past the camphory scent and a thin thread of thyme and then it was really gone, poof! in a few hours. Better to wear the Hinoki body cream.
This isn’t a bucket list, but I have a friend heading to Copenhagen and she will bring me back a bottle of Byredo Reine de Nuit or Tobacco Mandarine. I have few weeks to decide which I want.
Post shower, Bois Imperial.
That’s disappointing about the Le Labo . Maybe DS Durga Big Sur Eucalyptus would be worth trying?
Maybe but there prices are ridiculous. They are a house I have liked one fragrance from, Deep Dark, Vanilla. Everything else has been a pass.
Never have I ever bought fragrance so slowly and carefully as these past few – three years.
ITA w Kanuka about the Big qdur Eucalyptus 👍! That’s lovely way to share with your sister, one for her, one city for you!
Oooh, Petra is on my list too. I’d like to combine with my trip to Egypt and had it basically planned a bit over a decade ago, but then didn’t trust going with a kid with all that was happening. Istanbul is wonderful, though!
We share the wish to go to Istanbul.
Thanks for posting your thoughts on that new Le Labo. Sounds like something I won’t have to chase down.
https://multilingual.com/issues/mar-apr-2020/poems-from-the-edge-of-extinction/
For anyone interested in ‘ mother-tongues’ I really recommend this poetry anthology, Poems from the Edge of Extinction, just for the amazing inclusion of so many ( rare ) beautiful languages. I’ve been trying to teach myself Welsh ( my grandmother spoke it) but it’s very tricky and requires a bigger brain than what I have. Maybe that should be my bucket list . Actually, I’ve always wanted to see a puffin in the wild or go to Lake Eyre in Australia when the birds arrive. Closer to home, and more likely to happen, is to go to Miranda in the North Island (NZ) , a migration spot for shore birds such as the godwit which flies between NZ and Alaska every year. Wearing Brin de Reglisse, salty and sacred, like migrating birds.
I was so thrilled to see puffins in Iceland! Wow, the idea of a little bird flying all the way from NZ to Alaska is just mind-boggling.
11,600 km non-stop over 8 days from Alaska to NZ ! They don’t touch land and sleep on the wing!

Amazing!
I got to see puffins in Ireland and my brain was having a hard time with it because to me they really look like cartoon drawings. It felt like I was in the Who Framed Roger Rabbit world.
Lucky you. I hoped to see them when I lived ( briefly) in Scotland but never did
You smell great! New Zealand is on my bucket list, as my late mother was born there, and I’m also a big fan of Lord of the Rings. We almost got to go there this spring, but my husband’s work trip to Australia, which was the real purpose, was canceled. Well, we’ll get there another time.
Puffins! I also saw them, in Iceland and the Shetlands. So much fun to look at!
I really have no bucket list as I am quite content. I just decided to go with Hermes Eau des Merveilles today.
Hallo!And you smell GREAT!🌹
Hey J B-
I was just thinking about you the other day. Haven’t seen you for ages. Hope all is well.
Smelling great as always 😊
Thanks Nina!
It’s merveilleuse that you’re so content Kris! 🙌🙌🙌. Hope Mr K’s recovery is going well.
He is doing well. Thank you for asking.
Yay for being content! Can’t ask for more than that.
I agree.
Quite a few Hermes perfumes work with being content. 👍👍
You are probably right. I believe this is the only Hermes that I have at the moment.
Happy Friyay and HALLLOOOOOO!!!
I missed you all a lot!Sorry for my absence these past few weeks, but calmer seas are ahead!
SOTD!
Kayali’s Bougie Marshmellow.Yummy spicy gourmand.
So I finally moved!!Yay and happy days!
The perfume room is a reality,I just have to perfect my organisational skills to get the balance just right. But I finally have space to properly enjoy every drop of perfumed goodness!
The move was super-easy,I just went 8 doors down in the same building.GORGEOUS views of the river and estate and now I do believe the perfect apartment exists for me.
I’m so behind on comments,cp’s and news from you guys, but I’lo try to catch up!
XO’s
Bucketlist….
Yeah it’s full to the brim!
So many places to see,so much to experience still!
In the spirit of my SOTD,I would love to visit Dubai one day!
Waving hi! I’m so glad to hear you have struck the apartment jackpot, I wish you many happy years there!
Happy new apartment , JB! Sounds awesome.
So glad to see you pop up with good news!!
Hi JB! I’m a newbie here since New Years Day, so we haven’t met. But you had me at « perfume room! ». Looking forward to hearing all about that in your dream-come-true apartment!
Congrats on your perfect apartment with not only beautiful views but anew perfume room, too!
Hurray for the new, perfect apartment!
Perfume room! Wonderful! I’m still stuck with the perfume drawer.
Very happy for you!
It’s good to see you posting, congratulations on the new living space.
Hello hello there! Long time, no see! Happy to hear that you did find your perfect apartment, and the move was an easy one.
J B🙋♀️
Hope your move is a good one for you!
How is the eye business doing in Africa?
Yay, and even a perfume room! Now I hope you will be able to stay put!
I have been lucky enough to travel extensively and do lots of bucket-list type things (shark dive, hot air balloon, zip lining, safaris) but I haven’t been to the Middle East except to transit airports. I’m wearing Cuir Ottoman for the Ottoman Empire. I would be happy to visit any of the countries that were once part of it.
Great choice!
Cuir Ottoman is such a soft, pretty leather.
It’s been a week of many days without a scent of the day, and I’m also still commando for now today. I had a minor/outpatient surgery yesterday and cannot shower for 48 hours, so I’ve been cautious about spritzing any fragrance. I did sneak a partial shower last night with plastic cling wrap all over my bandage, and it was a success, I kept the area dry.
But speaking of bucket lists, I might have worn African Leather for a fantasy safari trip. Or CDG Kyoto for a trip to Japan (I’ve had several layovers in Tokyo but have never left the airport sadly). Going back to Venice is also on the bucket list, and for that I would pick something classic, grand, and rich. Maybe Mitsouko, or Amouage Gold. One can dream!
Feel better real soon tulipani!!!
Wishing you a speedy recovery!
Wishing you a problem-free convalescence.
Best wishes for speedy healing!
Best wishes to you!
I’m wearing SL’s Rousse because I have it with me!
I don’t have a bucket list in any organised sense, but there are two things I’ve wanted to see as long as I can remember. One was the pyramids and I visited Egypt a couple of years ago, so that leaves the aurora.
I came sooo close to seeing it last year, but the night clouded over.
I was at north of Sweden, near Kiruna, for a couple of days this month and was really hoping to see aurora borealis, but unfortunately every night it was cloudy …
Oh, last spring supposedly you could see the aurora from where I live. The first night apparently people did see it, but the second night it was supposed to be out, the night where I could go to the beach to look, nothing happened. We went to Iceland in winter years ago hoping to see it, though knowing that was maybe a 1 in 3 chance, and yeah, didn’t see it because it was cloudy the whole time.
Lots of NST folks have the Aurorae in their Bucket Lists.
SOTD = Chanel Coco Noir EDP
Love it! Copying Kris’s SOTD from yesterday!

(and I hope it doesn’t disappear)
Have a great weekend everyone!
Smelling great and fun picture!
Thanks!
Cute picture today!
Thanks!
Love the picture and you smell fabulous!
Thank you. I copied you 🙂
One area I’ve never visited and have really wanted to lately is the Pacific Northwest, all the way north to Vancouver, BC, and south to Northern California. I picture forests, mountains, the ocean, beautiful in all 4 seasons. Since the Chicago area is slowly emerging from an extremely frigid week that I understand reached even Portland, OR, I’m staying in winter mode while traveling there and enjoying a double-layering today of Sonoma Scent Studio’s Winter Woods and Fireside Intense. Woods of all kinds, warmed with amber and a bit smoky from everyone tucked in their cabins with a cozy fire in their hearth.
We’ll be doing the same tonight, curled up with 😻😻😻, a cozy fire in our hearth, and watching one of our favorite late-winter-it’s-almost-spring films, ‘Chocolat.’ Love Juliette Binoche & Johnny Depp together!❤️
A quiet weekend ahead and temps in the 40’s by Sunday! Yay! Wishing everyone a wonderful weekend ahead. 🌞
All I have to say is, avoid November. 🙂 Winter here is dark and rainy. It’s atmospheric if you’re visiting, but can be tough to deal with if you’re here full time. November is the worst of it, I find.
Thanks for the info. I highly doubt I’d visit in November – I don’t usually go anywhere in November – I think of it as a ‘gray’ month pretty much everywhere.
Driving up I-5 is an adventure, for sure! It’s the first place I ever saw moss growing on a Jersey wall, LOL.
April can be gorgeous out in that part of the world.
Love Fireside Intense! It’s much better than the perfume sibling that is just Fireside.
Yes, I’m really enjoying the Fireside Intense; it’s lasted all day, never smelled the regular Fireside. I’m thinking April is a nice month to visit pretty much everywhere but no plans yet to head that way.
Fireside was thin and lacked depth compared side by side with Fireside Intense. It didn’t have much of the amber-y base to it.
I’m testing a sample of Gallivant’s Amsterdam, not so much for a bucket list but for a fantasy version of the future where I move to the Netherlands after retiring. As far a tulip fragrances go, I prefer Byredo’s La Tulipe and Miller Harris’s tender over this one; this has a sharp note that I don’t like. I think it is meant to be green, but to my nose it is plasticky.
Today’s tea is a chocolate orange black tea from the Nut Head in Philly. Smells like a Terry’s orange.
Tea sounds lovely!
Is that tea shop in Olde City Philly, by chance?
It’s in the Reading Terminal Market. I’m not sure if that is technically Old City, but looking at the map it might be (or at least close)
Reading Terminal Market is in Center City Philly, which is adjacent to Olde City. Been there a few times. 😉
I have not tried your scent today, but there are several from that house that I really enjoy.
Sotd Courreges L’eau de Liesse. Just added something to bucket list: practicing our French w a trip to Grasse with allô and springpansy. All French speakers & learners come join us!
Can I join you? I love all things French and my one trip to France only whetted my appetite for more (perfume, food, 🍷, etc) and still remember a little bit of my college French.
Oui oui allons-y🇫🇷🇫🇷🥖🥖🍷🍷🍾🥂👩🏼🎨🧑🎨👨🎨
Per Daniel, no luggage just carryons !
D’accord, merci beaucoup!
I’m looking forward to trying a few of the new Courrèges line-up. How do you like yours?
I ❤️ it! Bought a whole bottle! Plus it I soured my ni kne. Want to try Eau Pale.
Inspired
Yes! The one at the top of my list is Seconde Peau.
I’m unfamiliar with that one but after looking at its note, I’m intrigued.
I would love to join you, Paris me manque beaucoup.
Bien sûr ma chérie ! The more the merrier.
I’m in the airport on my way right now to one of my bucket list cities: Vienna! We will also visit Salzburg for two nights. SOTD is Hermes’ Barenia, just because I was able to sample it in the duty free store while we wait for our flight. I like it a lot, but it’s not a love. Do any of you have suggestions for Vienna? We plan to see several museums and have tickets for an opera and a concert, but I’d welcome suggestions for restaurants or stores to visit!
At the Cafe Bel Etage in the Hotel Sacher, Have some Sacher-Torte mit Schlag for me!
I will!
http://www.haus-wittgenstein.at/%C3%9CBER-UNS.html
The Wittgenstein house…a modernist gem. I gather it’s now part of the Bulgarian cultural institute and has concerts etc.
Also the Vienna Secession building for its amazing roof.
The modern art/ design museum…might be called VAM(?)
Plus all the usual suspects : Bellevedere, the Franz Josef Schloss etc.
https://www.wien.info/en/art-culture/museums-exhibitions/top-museums/mak-351498
The design museum is MAK
The public transport system is amazing in Vienna, underground and trams
Thanks! I have the Secession building on my list because of the Beethoven frieze and its connection with a trio of fragrances inspired by them, from Atelier des Ors. I appreciate all your suggestions!
I had a terrific time riding on the old-fashioned ferris wheel in that large park in Vienna, the one where a big scene takes place in The Third Man with Orson Welles. That was an important destination item on my list! There is also a wonderful museum of Eastern Art with a of of amazing Byzantine art.
Prater Park is the name of the place. It’s beautiful!
Great suggestions, thank you! I may skip the Ferris wheel, though, as I get dizzy with heights.
How exciting! Enjoy your bucket-list trip!
Thanks!
Your trip sounds wonderful! Never been there so can’t offer any tips, just sending wishes for a wonderful visit ahead!
Thank you!
I don’t have a bucket list, but I would like to visit Iceland to see the Northern lights before I die. I’m also even more interested in Iceland after a visit to the Nordic Heritage Museum in January, which included experiencing the scented exhibit from Fischersund. https://nordicmuseum.org/exhibitions/faux-flora
I posted the link to the exhibit a while back, but there it is again. It was very cool, and I wish it was a permanent exhibit BUT I was able to purchase the Faux Flora discovery set of 5 x 8ml scents that were featured in the exhibit. Today I’m wearing Faux Flora No. 2 on my left arm and Faux Flora No. 3, as they complement each other well. There are beautiful art cards included in the discovery set too.
Allo and springpansy have either of you had a chance to go to the exhibit? It’s still there through this weekend!
I have not been yet, but still plan to go (at the last minute)!
Oh, good!
Thanks for that link. Lots like a cool exhibition
It was really cool. My only regret is not showing up to the museum an hour earlier. We thought 3 hours would be enough to take in the whole museum because it’s not very large, but we could have probably spent another 30 minutes in this exhibit.
The siblings behind the Fischersund brand were interviewed on the Perfume Room podcast a few months ago. It was an interesting episode, give it a listen!
Thanks, I’ll check it out!
Oooooooooooooh. Seeing the Northern Lights in Iceland would be amazing. 🤩
How cool that would be! I’d take a viewing of the Northern lights anywhere I could see them, they’re so fascinating and beautiful in the photos.
I have one thing on my bucket list that I almost got to do few years ago for a milestone birthday, but family emergency ruled that out: I want to see Don Giovanni, my favorite opera, in the venue where it premiered, the Estates Theater in Prague. They know their clientele and show Don G every year, usually around my birthday. I will probably wait for my next milestone birthday / when my kids are older so we can organize a big opera going party. I will wear two of my favourite perfumes that play nicely together and should go well with a smell of an old, wooden theater: Florascent Medina, the good old, pre IFRA version with lots of saffron in it, and the sadly discontinued but still glorious Dilettante by Hiram Green. In the meantime, if you’re lucky to go there for an opera evening, please observe all fire regulations.
Love your idea. I hope it comes true before too long.
Oooh, nice bucket list item! That’s a beautiful theatre and I love Prague.
That’s a great goal, I love it. I would like to go back to Prague.
Fabulous idea! Prague is also on my bucket list. But as part of our trip to Vienna, we are going to see the opera Fidelio at the State Opera House, and the cast includes Bryn Terfel! So excited.
Everyone is smelling wonderful today! I’ve been MIA recently due to spending way too much time on the internet, but I can’t stay away completely! I miss you all too much.
My SotD is Xerjoff XJ 1861 Naxos, because I’ve always wanted to go to Greece. I would start off seeing the historical sites and ruins; I’ve always been fascinated by the stories of Greek mythology. Then, some time in the mountains to see a quieter side of life there and drink mountain tea. Finally, relaxing on the beautiful blue and white islands. At least, that’s what they look like in all the photos, lol!
Hope everyone has a good weekend.
Hiya! Good to see you posting; I’ve been thinking about you.
Thanks, Jalapeno!
AnnE! We have missed you❤️
Thanks, you’re so sweet. ☺️
I understand needing to limit internet time 🙂
I had a feeling you would understand. ❤️
Brilliant combination!
Wow, thanks!
An orange instead of a smoothie
My best modern fruity chypre, Liz Earle essence No 9 today and tonight to evoke the Turkish pastries of Istanbul which is on my bucket list it’s PdM Oriana.
I think I have a sample of Oriana. I will have to look next time I am in the sample box.
Curious to know what you would think, objectively it’s too sweet but if you wait the far drydown is very nice, lasts very well too, I can still smell it this morning.
Been enjoying a lot of Asian Pears here lately, since they’ve been really good. My favorite citrus fruit has been kind of scarce, though.
Asian pears are delicious.
I gave a couple of them to my brother on his birthday. Plus a chocolate bar.
Well, I was commando all day because I spent most of it in the ICU. I’m fine, but my 91-year-old mom had a bit of a scare yesterday that resulted in an ICU stay. Things are waaaaay better today than they were yesterday, thankfully, and all of the nurses there are travelers (there’s a nurses’ strike going on here now) and have been absolutely wonderful and amazing and warm and helpful, and if it were up to me their contract dispute would be over and resolved completely in their favor (and even beyond). Major kudos and all my heartfelt thanks to all you nurses out there!
Glad to hear that you are OK, and things are improving for your Mom! Hugs.
I’m wishing your Mom a quick recovery. I’m glad today is going better.
I’m so glad that things are better today!
Hope your mom is on the mend soon.
Glad your mom is okay but sorry for all the trauma you both had to endure.🤗
Oh no! I hope she’s still on the mend. Yes, nurses are linchpins of all our medical care, and I appreciate them so much.
So glad your mother is doing OK today after yesterday’s scare.
Last night I got lillyjo’s favorite kind of snow: nonexistent. It all went to the south of me. TBH, I am kind of bummed out, since the sidewalks here are covered in rock salt again, and the precipitation would have gotten rid of it.
Bucket list item: go to Hawaii. I have wanted to do this since I was 6 years old. It hasn’t happened yet. Someday!
SOTD = Guerlain Terracotta. Think it’s a pretty good match for Hawaii.
I love the salt for the ice and snow but it’s all over my car and boots too!
I hope you get to go to Hawaii sometime. Terracotta is a perfect match!
I had to scrub the floor in my entryway and kitchen from tracking salt in! What a mess. 😭
Hmm, I think Terracotta would be a great pick. I hope you get to go there! You won’t be disappointed. 🌺🌴☀️
Fingers crossed!
Perfect match! I was fortunate to go to Hawaii a few times per year for work for a couple of years. It is beautiful there and smells so good with the flowers.
Thank you Kris!
That’s a great match! I’ve never been to Hawaii either. My travel bucket list is growing thanks to all the comments here. Not to mention the effect you all have on my perfume bucket list, lol.
Thanks, Old Herbaceous. Here’s hoping we both make it out to Hawaii, then!
Hope you get to go to Hawaii, perfect match with the perfume.
Thank you Aurora!
Getting a custom perfume is an item that was on my bucket list, so I’m wearing Slinky Carnation, my custom from DSH. My next thing is becoming an acupuncturist but my husband has promised me perfume shopping in Europe after I graduate next year so who knows what I’ll get then since I haven’t even picked a city
Wow! That is a great gift to receive from your husband. Proud of you for becoming an acupuncturist.
Yay for graduation and perfume tourism!
Late to the party. I wore the vintage Dune to see my dermatologist. He had on a play list from 1973, which was a good year for old music. Weird calling this classic cutting edge music old!
