It's Tuesday and World Pneumonia Day. Birthdays: Grace Kelly, Booker T Jones, Neil Young. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in Diptyque Volutes because adanst mentioned it in the weekend poll. Tea at the moment is Art of Tea Cardoz Legacy Masala Chai.
Reminder: on 11/15, wear a fragrance with tonka bean, if you have one.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2024, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: the Frank Lloyd Wright Terra teapot ("...showcases one of Frank Lloyd Wright’s original designs etched into the cup's surface, capturing the essence of Frank Lloyd Wright’s design principles and his relationship with nature. This unique collaboration with the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation is rooted in tradition and celebrates creativity that inspires connections to nature, beauty, and each other") is on markdown, $33 at Tea Forté.
Love tonka bean! Taking points in Coco Noir.
Half price day for seniors at the Goodwill stores in my area. I’m looking for sweaters and books, they are often a good source, and some treasure hunting, of course.
Enjoy your day, good smelling folks.
Sounds like a nice day shopping, ringthing 🙂
Have fun and hope you find some treasures🎁
Love this one! You smell wonderful. I may wear tomorrow.
Good luck with your thrifting!
Happy hunting!
How’d your Goodwill trip go?
Hello.
Sotd is MMM REPLICA From The Garden. Green tomato leaves and a bright citrus opening. I really enjoy it. Love the smell of tomato leaves. Packs decent power for an edt.
Plus lovely to smell tomato leaf in November 🙂
That’s a beautiful teapot.
It’s a foggy day here, and I’m in Bigarade Concentree to add a cheerful orange note to my day. I usually get a strong hay note later on-I love that note. And if I concentrate I can detect the rose, too.
Have a great day, you good smellin peeps 🙂
You smell lovely!
Interesting that you get rose from it, I’ll have to pay attention next time. Good thing you don’t get the cumin note which puts off some people. I believe Robin is not a fan of BC because of it. On me it’s tolerable but I remember my husband saying that he detected a bit of armpit smell when he wore the perfume many moons ago. I bought it for him but I’m the only one wearing it these days.
Thanks, adanst 🙂 I might be ansomnic to cumin. I can smell it in real life, but not in Femme, or in BC. No clean sweat smell to my nose at all!
I am bad at spotting tonka in perfumes, so I will have to rely on manufacturer’s notes and Fragrantica. Today it is Lush Rentless, which is apparently quite tonka-forward.
I hope things have calmed down a bit, Glannys and that you are able to work.
Thank you – and thanks to everyone who kindly responded to my post yesterday. It’s been a no-work week so far, but that’s fine – I went to the dentist and did some shopping today.
Today we had a couple of air raid alerts (the usual daily amount), but I didn’t hear anything – no explosions, shots, or news of damage. Yesterday’s blackout was apparently due to a large number of Russian planes taking to the air, which usually signals potential missile launches. But yesterday, it seemed to be just a training flight. Although we all know what they’re training for…
I don’t even know how to respond to what you’re dealing with on the daily but want you to know that I wish I had a magic wand to stop all the suffering, not only in your country, but all over the world. I’m just so sick of violent craziness and think humanity all over the globe needs to hit a reset button. It’s all such a tragic waste…😢
Thank you! Yes, sometimes I think that an alien takeover would not be such a bad thing.
Got the flu vaccine and COVID booster yesterday and feeling under the weather due to it. I think that I will get tons of won ton soup since I will be getting my surgery tomorrow and will want lighter foods for a while. Still waiting on the phone call to see when I need to be at the hospital for my surgery.
In Coco Mademoiselle but will be taking a shower and probably will switch over to Lyric.
Good luck tomorrow! I’m doing very well and should be going home today. Be prepared for lots and lots of waiting. Your idea to get won ton soup is a great one. Why didn’t I think of that?
That’s great, Calypso!
Good luck with the surgery!
Good luck tomorrow!
🍀for tomorrow.
Good luck Dawn!
Good luck, Dawn! You’re smelling lovely all day today.
Crossing my fingers that everything goes well for you!
Good luck with your surgery. Hopefully you can sleep through some of the post-vaccine ickiness while you’re under anesthesia. Speedy recovery!
Adding more good wishes Dawn…hope all goes perfectly.
Good luck tomorrow, and I hope you are well stocked with wonton soup now!
Adding my good wishes!
I’m wearing Myrrhe Eglantine, from one of their large 4ml samples. Pretty, but no points for the CP.
I love this one. You smell fabulous!
I was surprised to see how many perfumes feature tonka (no, autocorrect, not Tonia) bean — it’s right up there with bergamot, apparently. This morning I’m in LVDP Tabac and discovering that it’s one of the “less is actually more” fragrances that go a bit quiet and then, suddenly, are wafting all around me. Very nice.
Yes, this should be an easy one!
In Dzing! and it’s making me very happy. The leather is divine and the Tonka Bean, of course.
You smell wonderful. Just added Dzing! to my list for this week.
Me too, adding Dzing! It’s one of the few samples I brought over…
My surgery went really well and I can’t even feel pain in my knee now! It’s amazing! I’m getting another PT session this morning and then I can go home.
Today I am having a weird perfume experience. I was fine in the early morning but began sneezing and sniffing after the new nurse came on (the pca). She’s very strongly perfumed. I don’t recognize it and it’s pretty but obviously has set me off. I finally called for the other nurse to come in and asked if she can get me some Benadryl. She’s getting it. I explained and she said she’ll speak to the other nurse. It’s possible it’s something else but I think it’s this.
Congrats on your successful surgery!
I’m glad everything went well Calypso. Does the hospital have a jewellery store downstairs ( did I remember right? ). You could PT your way down there and treat yourself.
Your memory is correct! My plan now is to visit the store when I come back for my two-week checkup. Both the store and the doctor’s office are in large towers connected to the hospital building I’m in by Skybridges. It’s a bit too far for me to venture out across today. It the logic still holds: have a surgery = buy some jewelry item!
I usually get a milk shake after medical procedures but perhaps I need to up my game!
well, I say do both!!
I’m glad you are on the mend now! Sending you kitty hugs from Bertie, Scout, and Dapper.
Aww thanks to the fur babies!
That’s terrific news about the surgery success! I hope your allergies simmer down quick and the knee heals beautifully.
Great to hear that your surgery went so well!
I am glad to hear about your successful surgery!
Happy to hear you had such good results from your surgery.
Yay to no pain.
Glad it all went well, Calypso. Take care and a speedy recovery to you!
Congratulations on your successful surgery, Calypso. Pain-free, hooray!
So glad you’ll be home with the kitties today!
Yay for successful surgery!
W00t w00t w00t for a pain free knee! Awesome news. Hope your recovery is quick and uneventful.
Thanks to your encouragement (you enablers, you!) I have booked a two week trip to France in April. Paris, Bordeaux, and Toulouse. I’ve never been to Southern France before and I am looking forward to it. Today I am wearing Rhubarb Ecarlate.
Wow, that is powerfully good enabling. Sounds like a great plan.
Omg! Sqeee! I’m SO excited for you!! I hope you love that area as much as I did. Really, the breadth of the things I learned about the region is unbelievable (or more likely I have a terrible knowledge deficit!) I hope you have a magnificent time! And you’ll be beating the crowds for sure. Here’s to hoping you have the loveliest of weather. ☀️🇫🇷
Yay! That will be fabulous.
That sounds absolutely wonderful.
Oooh, so jealous! I’ve done northern France a fair number of times but never southern France. Enjoy!
You caved! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Your trip sounds absolutely wonderful! I went to Paris in April once, and it was a great time to go. Still chilly there, but I imagine that it will be warmer where you’re going.
Congrats on your upcoming trip!
That’s wonderful! May I ask, did you book a package tour, or go through an agent, or put it all together, yourself? We prefer to be fairly independent when we travel (vs. a fully guided group tour), but I am finding that I have less time to research individual hotels and itineraries, and so end up just not booking holidays (other than our annual because trip, which hasn’t changed in years and is just a driving trip from home). Wondering what others prefer….
Wearing Kelly Caleche and chanelling Grace Kelly ( if she wore Birkenstocks, jeans , darned sweater and an unwashed face…so probably not). I’m back home as the house I am meant to be living in ( writers residency ) still didn’t have hot water or a fridge when I arrived, and even though I could cope with the situation I decided not to. It’s such a drag, really as it was all promised to be fixed and I had an email last Thursday saying repairs were done. On the bright side, my drive took me past a couple of peony farms, all in bloom. What an awesome smell. I’m now looking for a peony perfume. Also, the hillsides were purple, covered in wild thyme. I think winter might finally be over!
I find it odd that the sponsors of the residency didn’t want you to be comfortable.
Unfortunately the house had major renovations so hasn’t been occupied for several years and the trustees/ lawyers managing the property don’t live in the same ( small) town as the house, so nothing has been physically checked over following tradespeople’s visits…so there’s been some lapses in communication. It will work out eventually and the house itself is incredible, so it’s worth waiting for.

It has an incredible view up a river valley
Love the fireplace…
What a nuisance, that’s really disappointing, but I agree it’s a lovely drive.
Peony farms! Definitely a bright side! I hope they get everything figured out with the home soon.
Peony is one of those notes that doesn’t seem to translate well into perfume, IMO. I have never come across one that smells even remotely like the real thing.
Eek, glad you didn’t decide to tough it out, and hope all is fixed soon.
Lovely geometric teapot above. And the price makes up for the exorbitantly priced candle lemming. 😊
I’m in a mood today but trying to climb out of it and what better way than to team up with Robin and Adanst?! So, call it a Hat Trick if you will, but I’m also wearing Volutes EDT.
A little bird came knocking on my window this morning. Flew off but is knocking madly on a tree next to my camper. I think he may have an identity crisis and thinks he’s a woodpecker…see below, and please pardon my bed. We just got up. 🥱

Smelling great, Diva! I just topped off my morning dose of Volutes.
I could bathe in it. 🙏
Hi twin! Smelling very fine over there! I know the EDT isn’t available anymore, I and there is some difference with the EDP because I remember people here trying both versions and reporting back. Here is a short video regarding the differences between the two concentrations, if you’re interested. I e never tried the EDP, so have nothing to add from personal experience.

What a lovely review, thank you for posting the link!
Now I’m really sold. I’ve got to get my hands on a bottle. Of either. 😀
Triplets!
Aw, what a cute little finch, knock, knock, knocking on your window!
I am wearing Jo Malone Wood Sage & Sea Salt and drinking my second cup of Jasmine Green Tea.
Aha, a cup of jasmine green tea is what I should have had this afternoon.
Yes to Jasmine Green Tea! 🍵
Trying Francesca dell’Oro Vanille 12:00 today and notes are below. This is a sweet yet floral vanilla to my nose so far. I tried Vanille 08:00 yesterday and enjoyed that too. They have just released Vanille 16:00 and Vanille 24:00 so it looks like I will need to hunt down samples of those. I have said it before and will say it again…my kingdom for a coffret! 😆 👑
Head Notes: Bergamot oil, Mandarin oil, white Peach, Apple, Pear
Heart Notes: Vanilla CO2, Vanilla absolute Madagascar Tasuki, Chantilly accord, Freesia, Rose
Base Notes: Caramel cream, Macaron accord, Tonka Bean, Cedarwood
That does sound sweet!
I’m wearing Neela Vermeire’s Ashoka. I decided on that before checking the notes – sure enough, it’s got tonka bean 🙂 .
Nice choice. I have Ashoka and love it. Maybe I’ll wear that tomorrow!
Hi all. I’m wearing my sample of Celine Zouzou for the tonka bean. I really like it at first sniff. Goes a bit too powdery at the end for me, so no lemming here.
I am heading out for a long walk and then thinking of making the NYT recipe for English muffins.
I don’t think I have ever had a homemade English muffin! Do tell how they come out.
Wearing Indochine which doesn’t have tonka bean. So sorry!
Never be sorry for wearing Indochine!
Ditto this!
Great scent. Who cares if it has tonka?
I thought of you yesterday. I was watching a guy in the park throwing a ball for his dogs. One was a large collie X , bounding along at speed. The other was a daschund that also seemed to think it was a collie X … running as fast as it could to get the ball first. It almost appeared to be running on the spot, all action but no forward movement
Haha – so cute.
Gosh I wish I could have another dachshund in my life, they are so entertaining!
Sorry/Not sorry! 🤣
Wearing Miss Dior edt today since I don’t believe I have anything with tonka.
Always a great fragrance, tonka or no😊
Hi fragrant friends.
Back in California after tending to my sister in Florida.
We visited with her son and daughter in law and the two granddaughters who had quite a wonderful time at the Sephora sale, courtesy of their nonni.
Then election day in Florida, which was different.
We also went to Lauren Groffs’ bookstore, The Lynx which was wonderful. It had not opened the last time I visited in April. A great community space in Gainesville.
https://bookshop.org/shop/TheLynx
The weather was so awful, dark skies, rain and the air never moved. I am not cut out for humidity. YIKES.
My sisters’ surgery went really well with the exception of moving from first patient to last patient of the day. No coffee, water… nothing.
Her surgeon had a very strong coffee waiting for her in recovery and I picked her up and brought her home.
She was well enough to drive me to the airport and gift me with a bottle of Dior Ambre Nuit for all my services as long as I never wear it around her. And we planned two trips!
Read the Riley Keogh book on the way there and I Am a Girl From Africa on the way back.
Started The Diplomat season one.
Just went with an oldie today, Philosophy warm cashmere? I have a big jar of the body cream and it smells yummy.
You’ve been a good sister and yay for gift of perfume.
Yay!!
Yes, we are good sisters.
Sounds like a busy trip. I bet you are glad to be home.
I just started to watch season two. So far so good.
Glad your sister is doing well and congrats on your new perfume. It’s a good one. I have the old one, not the extrait. I like both.
Glad surgery went well.
thank you – she is good!
I’m glad your sister is doing well.
Ambre Nuit is wonderful!
Glad to hear that your sister’s surgery went well. And yeah, I remember Florida humidity. Bletch!!
No tonka today. SOTD is Shalimar MI.
Would not surprise me in the least if it had tonka bean 🙂
If it does, it wasn’t mentioned on fragrantica. I did look😉
So you’ve switched out your Shalimar to the fall/winter one? 😉
You bet!
I’m not a fan of tonka.
Joining Robin and Deva in Volutes EdT. Only wish it lasted longer on me because I love it so. I wonder if the EdP has more presence and tenacity. The reviews I read seem to suggest so. I’m keeping my eye out for a bottle, preferably at some discount.
I’m really liking some of the Diptyque samples I’ve tried-I’ll have to see if I have 2 ml to try 🙂
Came back from Provence Saturday night, difficult to believe that I’ve been away since September 21st. On the bright side I’m glad to be reunited with my perfume collection, and my lovely neighbors watered the plants faithfully, and looking forward to get back to commenting on NST regularly again. Today, I wore vintage Donna Trussardi and tonight YR Folies de Saisons Délires d’automne and I’m guilty of having purchased a bub yesterday, I like it that much, tonka is not listed.
Oh wow, what a nice long sojourn!
I feel very lucky.
Welcome home, or sorry you had to come home, whichever works 🙂
Thank you Robin, all good things have to end and honestly home has its charms too.
Welcome back Aurora!
Thank you Lillyjo, it feels good to be back and be a regular on NST again. Hope you are having lovely fall weather.
I’ve lost some weight too, maybe I can lose the last 5 pounds I’d like to shed.
Welcome back Aurora! Glad to see you!
Thank you Jalapeno. Hope Teflon is 100% now.
She is, thanks for asking. We are both very happy that she doesn’t need any more ear drops!
I’m in tonka bean tonight as I picked up my Anatole Lebreton samples at the delivery place late this afternoon and I decided to try Kairos based on Luca Turin’s review. I’m liking the orange flower / creamsicle vibe on this one, though I tend to be more of a straight-up orange flower girl.
I’ve got a whole hefty 14 new samples to try! Looking forward to it!
14 samples! That’s a ginormous sample set!
My old shoes finally wore out. I’m wearing different shoes tonight that are killing my feet. I might have to wear the old ones until I can find something else. I have 4 hour’s to go and am dreading every step.
My sotd is Demeter Gingerbread but I don’t smell it anymore.
Ew, when your feet hurt, you hurt. Good luck finding something new!
I hope you find some comfy new shoes; sorry that your feet are so sore. That happened to me with a “new” pair of runners. I was shocked at how sore my feet got with them.
Those Demeters can be short-lived, but they’re quite fun.
Hope you can find comfortable shoes asap. Do you have Clarks in the US? Their shoes are comfy and stylish and good quality.
Yes, we do, and you would be right. They are very comfortable. I have a couple of pairs.
No tonka for me today, although I have a few perfumes that will fit the CP just fine. I felt like something different.
SOTD = back in Prada Infusion d’Oeillet. The far drydown was so nice yesterday that I had to wear it again today.
I only have a few to choose from. I’m saving them for the end of the week.
I think weather might determine what I pick on Friday. It’s cooling off here. No more temps in the 70’s, and I will be lucky to see something around 60 from here on out.
Your sotd×2 sounds very nice.
It’s the first of the Prada Infusions that I liked enough to purchase. I’m thinking it’s a warmer weather perfume for me. Definitely could be worn by anyone, provided they like the smell of it.
You smell lovely. Carnation is such a comforting scent.
Thank you allo!
Today’s scent is Francesca Bianchi’s Unspoken Musc. This is very intriguing, but I’m not sure how much I like it. The opening is is a pretty and bright bergamot, soon joined by iris. After that, it starts to smell much more earthy and spicy. Unlike many musks, it doesn’t go sweet and powdery in the mid-range, but stays static. Perhaps I haven’t gotten to the dry down, but I would like to be introduced to another layer. It’s not happening. This is a real puzzler for me.
Love Frank Lloyd Wright design. That would sit well the my tea stuff!
