Happy Almost-Friday! It's also United Nations Day. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm taking points in L’Artisan Parfumeur Traversée du Bosphore. I might just wear it again tomorrow.
Reminder: on 10/25, we're off to Turkey! Wear a perfume that is named for a place in Turkey, or that reminds you of a (real or imaginary) trip to Turkey, or that features a local ingredient, or ?
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2024, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Excellent match, Robin!
I am wearing Jul et Mad Nin-Shar. Even though it was inspired by Babylon, they mention Turkish rose absolute several times in the product description: “This superb multi-facetted fragrance, built around the purest Turkish Rose Absolut, astonishes by its extreme elegance, strong character, powerful and unisex personality.” And “The purest and best quality absolute of Turkish Rose was employed here.”
Head: Bergamot, Rose Liquor, Davana Essence
Heart: Turkish Rose Absolute, Jasmin of Egypt, Fraction Patchouli
Bottom: Oud, Benjoin, Bourbon Vanilla, Virginia Cedarwood, Sandalwood, Incense Absolut
It is a gorgeous rose-vanilla-oud fragrance, but strictly cold weather only for me.
I’m really enjoying all your explanations this week!
Thank you!
Looks like your weather is cool enough for it!
Well, it is still fairly warm for October, but cold enough for wearing flannel shirts indoors, so yes, it is.
Beautiful description of your SOTD.
This sounds very nice.
I’m wearing Dear Polly by Vilhelm Parfumerie, from a discovery set. I am really enjoying this one. I am always looking for a good black tea scent, and I can really smell this version of black tea. Lovely.
Ah, I should try that one if I haven’t already. I wish I had not stopped keeping notes on everything I tried…
Oh! I just had a chance to try this yesterday — it was the first time I’d encountered the Vilhem line in person. I was too tired to be methodical about it so just grabbed three to sample that either rang bells from NST or had appealing names. In addition to DP, I tried Smoke Show (I couldn’t smell much at all from this, sadly) and Poets of Berlin (liked!). Dear Polly I found delightful and quite different from anything else I have. I may order a sample trip when I’m back home.
I’m once again CP-adjacent in Ambre Narguilé. The description on the Hermes website quotes the perfumer thus: “I wanted to recreate my memory of the Orient, where swirls of smoke scented with fruit, honey and spices diffuse a sweet sense of intoxication.” Not sure that those heights are achieved here, but I do love the scent and believe that Turkey is more or less Oriented-adjacent, so maybe 3/4 of a point? 😉
I think you should get full points because if what I’ve read is correct, narghile (I’ve seen various spellings) is the Turkish word for hookah or water-pipe. I’m planning to wear it tomorrow myself and points or no points you smell fabulous!!
I was going to write the same thing. It’s “nargile” in Turkish according to Wiktionary. Full points. I also plan to wear it tomorrow, along with another scent.
Wow, thanks for the research, and the points!
Sotd is Ormonde Man for the cardamom note and though it’s not listed, I could swear I smell some Turkish Rose in it. In Persolaise’s recent review of OM, he said he smelled rose so that’s all the evidence I need😊
Good enough!
Robin, joining you in Traversee du Bosphore today. My coworker went to visit her family in Turkey last month and she brought back delicious chocolate-covered pistachio lokum. This scent definitely matches.
I will probably wear Traversée tomorrow. Such a gorgeous scent, isn’t it?
Yes, it’s beautiful and when I spritzed it on today, I got this rush of feeling of when I first tried L’Artisan scents decades ago, stuff like Mure et Musc. They were like nothing I had ever sniffed before, and I fell so deep in the rabbit hole of “niche” scents. Sigh….
L’Artisan perfumes definitely gave me those same feelings back in the day and drew me further down the rabbit hole.
OH, I want some chocolate-covered pistachio lokum!!
They were so yum, it was hard to stop at just one piece!!
I decided to do Turkish Rose scents for today and tomorrow. Today is ELdO Eau de Protection.
You smell fierce and wonderful!
😉 I like that description. Thanks.
Eau de Protection would have been an Insta-buy if it came in a 30mL bottle.
It’s pretty reasonably priced on some of the sites and it is only 50 ml. Just trying to enable a little😉
I’ve got some plans for Black Friday, assuming I see sales on some things I’ve been eyeballing. Trying to stay somewhat disciplined (ha).
Gotcha!
I’m wearing Histoires de parfums 1873, Colette. It has orange blossom notes and apparently Adana in the south of Turkey is host to an annual orange blossom carnival in April.
I have to admit that I put it on because I wanted a cheerful scent that lasts well and looked up the notes and a possible link to Turkey afterwards.
Love that one.
SotD is a vintage Avon, Apple Blossom Cologne. I was reading an article about popular Turkish items, and one of them was apple tea! I think I had a box of this a while ago. It has now been replaced by another Turkish herbal tea, Linden Mint. This one is lovely.
There is a very large Armenian population in a neighboring town, which has a couple of great markets, chock full of teas, olive oils, sweets, spices, coffee….You never know what you’ll find!
Those markets sound great!
I love going there.
Avon made some amazing perfumes back in the day.
Didn’t they? This one is called a cologne, and I can still smell it 9 hours later.
No idea what the CP is so I am doing my own for the next two weeks.
Wearing nothing but Mind Games, a brand I really love as three family members played in regional, national and international tournaments as children. I love how the names match chess terms and the bottles are aesthetically pleasing to my eyes.
Today is Prodigy. I like it a lot.
Olfactory Notes (Floral Woody)
Top: Bergamot, Cinnamon, Rose Milk
Middle: Longoza Flower, Creamy Caffe Latte, Patchouli
Drydown: Sandalwood, Vanilla, Blonde Woods
Extrait de Parfum which means I did not do my usual 32 sprays 🙂
How about 31? 🤣
You are so bad LOL
By the way, I saw your article yesterday from the New York Post. I read it every morning but don’t remember seeing that article on Lost Cherry. Have your tried the dupe from Finery made by Target? I have to say that I am really impressed by their dupes. My girlfriend gifted me the sampler and the cherry and pistachio are my favorite and for $29 for a full size bottle it sure beats Tom Ford prices!!!!!!!
I think she did and liked it, but I could be mistaken.
I forgot to ask this in my previous post. Have any of you tried Hermes Barenia and if so, what was it like?
Someone here tried it and didn’t like it, I can’t remember who it was though, sorry! It seems to be getting polarizing reviews, which does make me curious to at least test it.
Thanks. I thought I had heard something, but couldn’t remember.
IIRC, a few NSTers have tried Barenia. I think lillyjo was one of them? Opinions are mixed on it.
Thanks. Maybe she will chime in. I just saw something come up on my computer today so was just curious.
Kris,
See the recommend me a perfume thread on Bois de jasmin for very fair assessments on Barénia.
Thanks so much!
I tested it and it was disappointing on my skin. I didn’t like its fruity opening, nor the white flower in the heart (I found it cloying and boring). But I now some people here liked it, I think it was lillyjo.
Thanks Nina.
A sample of Memo Cappadocia for the CP.
Perfect! I never tried that one.
Went to the surgeon for a consult and left with an appointment for surgery. It’s November 13th but the hospital will call the day before to let me know what time I have to be there. Wearing a dab of no 5 extrait today.
I suppose this is good news! I’m glad it’s being taken care of!
Looks like you will have the holidays off😊
It looks like I will miss at least Thanksgiving and maybe some of the Christmas insanity at work. Will probably have to go easy on Thanksgiving dinner due to high fat and salt levels.
You will feel so much better when it’s out.
At least you’ll miss Black Friday!
I bet it feels good to have things set in motion. YAY for missing the Black Friday crazy!
So glad you have a date and that it is soon-ish but not too soon.
It’s Friday and we have a long weekend to look forward to. The forecast is for horrible weather, but I’m so glad to have an extra day off that I don’t care about that!
I’m continuing with Fort and Manle, and wearing Suleyman Le Magnifique.
I spent a few days in Turkey way back in 1988 on a tour. We visited Ephesus and I recognised the photo, but I don’t have any perfume memories other than maybe apple tea.
Never heard about your SOTD, but the name fits the CP perfectly! I think you win the challenge today.
I have to agree with Glannys. You win the CP today hands down.
Yep.
SOTD = Lazarus Douvos Rose 1845
Rose 🌹!!! My mind thinks that there’s turkish rose in here and I will just leave it at that! 🥰

In other news, I got my 2021 NJ Anchor Rebate which took them a while to process since I told them my original check was not cashed timely (one day 😡) but at least I have it. Still no sign of my NJ Transit ticket refund and I will be patient.
In recycling ♻️ news, I have been filling up my recycling bag with plastic containers (and the occasional glass bottle). I don’t even bother to see the recycling symbol — pretty much if it is not the soft / bag plastic, it goes into “recycling”. Here’s an article from the Wall Street Journal describing how badly we’re doing …
https://www.wsj.com/us-news/climate-environment/plastic-recycling-waste-trash-tips-0a606230?st=iHwQup&reflink=article_copyURL_share
Glad to hear that you got your NJ Anchor Rebate! But geez, that NJT ticket refund is running ridiculously slow…
I had to look up what an anchor rebate was. I wish my state would give rebates.
I had to look it up too!
I am off to a wrong country 🇧🇪 in Dries Van Noten par Frederic Malle, one of my favorite fall scents.
In reality, I was in Rome on a business trip the last couple of days, it was rainy but still nice, and today I had some time off to walk around the city. Apart from my perfume, I enjoyed the smell of great food and excellent coffee 👌
But you smell fantastic. Glad Rome wasn’t all business, hope you ate wonderful things.
Chanel Comete
Happy Thursday Barqs.
Hi NST! I had a haircut this morning and wore a discreet spritz of Cashmere Mist edt. Just got home after a busy day and I’m marinating in Shalimar edc. I’m drawing a blank what to wear tomorrow.
How’d your haircut turn out?
As for scent ideas re: tomorrow, do you have any perfumes with rose, coffee, or pomegranate notes?
I went from the bob I’ve had for ages to a short shag, lots of layers. I like it! The test will be when I style it myself.
I didn’t think of coffee, you’ve given me some ideas. Thanks Jalapeño 😊
You’re welcome!
I’ve had lots of luck with a shag haircut in one version or another. It’s been very easy to style and takes minimal hair products.
Home after a day spent in a place where I couldn’t wear fragrance, and happy to be cuddling up with YR Rose Absolute and a cup of white tea with rose. Rose Absolute’s description includes Turkish rose so I think I may be CP compliant. I love that these CP’s often lead me into learning more about places and scent components with which I have little knowledge.
Your Tea of the Day sounds lovely.
Points for you!
I’ve worn a couple hidden gems the last couple days, partly meaning they were hidden in one of my many perfume boxes! Yesterday I wore Ruh by Pekji Perfumes, a Turkish perfumer/brand. Ruh is lovely! I don’t think it quite rises to the level of a bottle purchase, but I’ve moved the sample into my baggie of samples with low fill level that I’m trying to finish up. So it’ll be more visible for me to keep using soon.
Today I’m in Soivohle Ankhara based on the Turkish city. It’s a nice sweet and fruity smelling one, but it’s very light. I’m fact, I’m about to re-apply with a few more dabs.
Robin, I’ve got Traversee on deck for tomorrow. You smelled great today!
Do tell more about Soivohle Ankhara! I am not familiar with that one. Is it new?
Oh gosh, it’s actually very old. It looks like Robin announced it here October 31, 2007! https://nstperfume.com/2007/10/31/liz-zorn-good-luck-series-new-fragrances/
However, I just realized that article says she’s released an updated version of Ankhara so I guess it was originally released even earlier than that. Mine is a 5ml EDP in a screw top bottle.
Thank you!
I have 1 perfume from Soivohle that is in a screw top bottle, but it’s a 10mL bottle. And it came from someone here at NST.
Guessing we will be twins tomorrow. I do love this one and don’t wear it enough.
Thanks for the link about the library of Celsus, Robin. Very cool article!
Laundry day for me today. Also looking at a Frost Warning for overnight. Crazy weather here.
SOTD = back in Prada Infusion d’Oeillet. I think this might be a warmer-weather perfume for me. It seems to be kind of faint with the chilly weather I’m having today.
It was 59 here today, but with no wind and a lot of sun it felt pretty warm.
It was in the mid 60’s here, but windy for most of the day. Dry enough indoors that I am zapping myself on light switches. Me no likey! 😖🤬
Probably the rare time of the year when we are weather twins! And dry here too, we are in “moderate” drought conditions but about to break a dry spell record, apparently.
Last time I checked the drought monitor for Colorado, the area I am in was either “severe” or “extreme” drought.
We are weather twins with a long dry spell, unfortunately.
I spent half my day putting out Christmas candles. It took me so long because I kept taking the lids off to sniff them! Lol.
My sotd is LVEB L’Extrait because it was mentioned yesterday.
Any good candles in the bunch? 😉
Most of them were waxy smelling. I did like one called Aspen Pine though.
I’m still doing more apple/cinnamon/pumpkin, but will probably get my pine candles out in November.
