It's Hump Day and Mole Day. Birthdays: Johnny Carson, Pelé, Anita Roddick. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm doing Turkish rose in Galop d'Hermès.*
Reminder: on 10/25, we're off to Turkey! Wear a perfume that is named for a place in Turkey, or that reminds you of a (real or imaginary) trip to Turkey, or that features a local ingredient, or ?
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2024, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
* "Often, if you use rose and leather together, the leather overpowers the rose. Combining the two is a delicate dance. I chose a Turkish rose, which has a stronger scent than other roses. It was thanks to my experience as a chemist that I was able to balance the two notes." Christine Nagel quoted in Hermès’s First Female Perfumer Talks About Breaking Into the Male-Dominated Fragrance World at The Cut.

YSL Opium (modern version). According to Saint-Laurent website, this perfume is mainly inspired by China, but Turkey is one of the main producers of opium. In the past, it was largely for recreational use, but today a lot of opium is imported from Turkey for medical purposes.
“I question whether any Turk, of all that ever entered the paradise of opium-eaters, can have had half the pleasure I had.” Thomas De Quincey, Confessions of an English Opium-Eater.
Excellent tie-in Glannys!
Hello.
Sotd is Dusita Pavilion d’Or. Beautiful fragrance but very sadly short lived on my skin. Lasts about 30 minutes before it becomes a veeeery quiet whisper.
Still enjoying and over-indulging food-wise here in Bangkok. I can seriously get used to the complex flavour profile of Thai cuisine. So delicious. I am also pretending the bathroom scale in my hotel room doesn’t exist.
I have a few Dusita scents and as much as I love them, they don’t last real long.
Sounds like you are having a fantastic time in Bangkok!
I’m wearing 33 by Chris Rusak, from a discovery set that I must have bought several years ago, and stashed in a drawer in my office. I found it, and I’m trying out the fragrances. Not too impressed by this one, which skews more masculine than I prefer, although I wear many masculine scents.
A surprise then? I don’t think it is made anymore so just as well you did not love it (I got curious because had not heard the brand name in some time so peeked at the website).
I read that it is Mole Day and thought, finally, a day to celebrate those tiny adorable creatures who eat prodigious numbers of grubs! Then I thought, oh wait, maybe it’s time for all of us to check the moles on our bodies to make sure they haven’t changed. Then I actually clicked on it and realized it was the unit of measurement. So thank you for making me chuckle at myself. I’m wearing Parfum Sacré today for the roses, spices and incense of it and because I adore it. Don’t know if they are CP worthy or not….
You just took me back to high school physics, wherein it took me almost the whole term to realize that a mole is a constant number, like a dozen. Gah! That was my last foray into the world of physics. 😂
The measurement meaning would have been lost on me, too! 😐
Definitely went passed me.
🙂
When I read mole day, I immediately thought of the Mexican chocolate sauce!
Yum!
Me too!
I like the way you think, scaresbears. Also, you smell heavenly. I had to laugh, because all that came to my mind was Mole from The Wind in the Willows.
Thanks for the grins about Mole Day!
It’s almost noon and haven’t gotten into the shower yet. Just haven’t done a damn thing today and just not motivated to do anything. Since I am doing something later on, I guess I will get into the shower and wear either Coromandel or Deneuve today.
I know that feeling! You will smell wonderful when you do get going.
I got up early (not retirement style, alas) to have lab work done.
Didn’t shower either and don’t think I will!
Will do some weeding and scrubbing and stay commando for the day.
I understand that demotivated feeling!
I know how you feel!
I chose Agar Ébène this morning, for its gentle oud note. Oud is said to be prized in the Middle East, and Turkey is at least adjacent if not actually in there, so I figure I’m at least CP-adjacent.
Works for me!
LVEB L’Extrait today which was mentioned and/or recommended by lillyjo and another NSTer that I sadly can’t remember. It’s lovely stuff…not much resemblance, if any, to OG…and not too oudy…in the family of Oud Bouquet but better imho. Notes are below.
Top notes are Frankincense, Red Fruits and Bergamot; middle notes are Iris Pallida and Damask Rose; base note is Oud
I agree about it being better than Oud Bouquet, which is too sweet for me. I still wear it occasionally though.
I sampled this and quite enjoyed it too, much more than the original LVEB. Did not detect any oud!
Argh, those notes all sound right up my alley!
Lalalalalalala, I can’t hear you! 😣🙈🙉🙊
Just in case your hearing improves.. last black Friday lancome did 40% off. Also Macy’s did a 50% off the L’Extrait. So watch for sales!
Time for me to grab some earplugs? 🤣🤣
You smell lovely, very good description, I purchased it too this year, it is essentially a LVEB for grown-ups.
I’m checking in now before the day gets away from me.
I have some phone calls to make before work tonight.
Sotd is Samsara.
You smell wonderful!
You smell wonderful!
Mmmmm Samsara. Beautiful.
Yes to Samsara!!
In SL El Attarine for the honey note. So comforting on a cold, fall day.
YUM and double YUM.
For the CP, Bouquet de Hongrie. Rose is one of my most difficult notes, and so far today, I am finding this a very rosy opening and then…just fading away. Will reapply later; I don’t want to give up on this too soon!
I have trouble with rose as well. For me, it’s best as a supporting note under something citrusy or salty (or both).
So you are anosmic to your SOTD shortly after applying it?
SOTD is one of my old favorites Shalimar MI.
You smell great!
I see that you are back in the saddle again with Shalimar MI!
😂
I do like it but starting to like the jasmine version too. I think that one will be better for summer though.
Summer isn’t going to stick around too much longer for either one of us, I think. It’s always nice to have seasonal perfume fun to look forward to. 😉
I think you are right.
Last night I thought of Fort and Manle, Rasei Fort is Turkish, though founded the brand in Melbourne. I’m wearing Fatih Sultan Mehmed, it includes rose which fits with my approach to the CP.
Great suggestion, I have a Fort & Manle sample I’ve been meaning to try! I always think of the brand as Australian, forgetting about Rasei Fort’s heritage, so many of the brand’s inspirations are Turkish indeed.
Turkey is my birthplace so I have lots of memories related to scent.
My favourite is the cologne that we used to splash ourselves whenever we had a minor health emergency and also when we had guests. I still have them in my bathroom, these days they make them with rose, jasmine etc.
I am wearing Nishane Ani for the cp.
Is there a common brand, or is it the equivalent of Florida Water…something basic made by many companies?
SOTD = Guerlain Eau des Fleurs de Cedrat EDT
It’s more like a cologne because 20 sprays only got me so far, but all good while it lasted. I may have to top up with something else …. BTW, my IG post consisted of several days worth of SOTD.

In other news, here’s an article on how Tom Ford Lost Cherry 🍒 smells like embalming fluid 🤢. I do love the fragrance, so there’s that! NB: It’s my first time linking to a New York Post article so not sure what your experience will be.
https://nypost.com/2024/10/18/lifestyle/tom-fords-255-perfume-compared-to-embalming-fluid-sinister/?utm_campaign=iphone_nyp&utm_source=mail_app
Embalming fluid?? GROSS!! 🤮
You know I smell something in the drydown of all the newer TF that don’t agree with me. I wonder if it’s all the same chemical.
I’m wearing Tubéreuse by MPG. I’m sure there might be a link to Turkey there.
There must be 🙂
Lolita Lempicka Le Parfum EdP (feels like an oxymoron but that’s what the vial says). I have 4 ssample sprays of Lolita Lempicka, and it turns out two of them are Le Parfum EdP and not the original (reformulated) EdP. So trying Le Parfum today, and it is okay but I will probably donate or otherwise pass along these sprays. The original – even the reformulated version – is more to my liking.
How is it Wednesday already. It was just last Thursday. It is nuts.
October has gone by so quickly it’s spooky, isn’t it? 😱🎃🐈⬛
It was just last Thursday made me laugh! It is true!
I chose Grenada Salvia today, from the Aqua Allegoria range. It features pomegranates, which are a popular and revered fruit in Turkish cuisine.
I didn’t even consider pomegranate as a note. Thank you!
Dashed out of the apartment without wearing perfume shortly before lunchtime. I had the opportunity to see this up close and personal at a grade crossing several towns away:

It was really cool to see such a huge steam locomotive moving under its own power!
Very cool!
Those old steam-powered train whistles sound like nothing else!
Cool! I love trains. My Dad collected train sets when I was little. My brother still has them.
My brother and I had a train set when we were kids. it’s long gone. I think there was eventually an electrical fault with it.
I’m in a few sprays of Halston.
Fabulous!
Today I’ve been wearing Christopher Street from Charenton Macerations. I got a sample from LS before I order a BUB (someday). The good news is that it smells the same. How rare!
Robin, you have been smelling fab today! I’m stealing your idea for Friday if I can’t think of anything else. Odds are high. 😆
I am a serial stealer of cp ideas, so please do!
