It's Tuesday and World Octopus Day. World Space Week started last Friday (oops) and ends on Thursday. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm having a cup of Upton Christmas Tea, brewed double strength so I could add half-and-half, and still contemplating my fragrance for the day but I'm thinking of Prada Infusion d’Iris Absolue.
Reminder: 10/11 will be FOMO Friday...wear the perfume you bought because everyone else was buying it and you didn't want to miss all the fun. Suggested by SarahN.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2024, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: "Harrods’ 175th anniversary is a time for celebration, and Fornasetti takes playful approach to the festivities with the Biscotti print: after all, what’s more British than tea and biscuits? This porcelain teapot is infused with the Italian label’s tongue-in-cheek attitude, the body printed with tasty treats atop a lace doily that bear the two brand’s monikers in a statement of premium sensory experiences." £590 at Harrods.
YSL Yvresse (in the champagne-cork bottle) because I have been on this oakmoss kick for the last few days, no reason why — chypres are just what I keep reaching for, and reapplying throughout the day. Oakmoss is like a drug.
It is. I have almost nothing left with a real hit of real oakmoss.
That’s a gorgeous tea pot, and if you choose the Prada scent you’re going to smell amazing, Robin 🙂
I’m using my sample of Rose and Cuir. I really like this. I don’t need a bottle, and if I did I’d be looking at a 10 ml size. those 10 ml bottles seem to be a things of the past at Holt Renfrew, and that’s too bad. I don’t need a 50 or 100 ml size of anything anymore.
Ooh, I love Rose et Cuir. You smell fabulous.
I love this fragrance! You are smelling wonderful Carole.
You’re both so kind-thank you 🙂
I love the teapot…if it was $45 I’d buy it 😉
I’m wearing Irish Leather by Memo, which I’m enjoying. This is from a discovery box. I’m trying to do more sampling from my discovery boxes this month.
I like the Memo line
I’m wearing “Fils de Joie” from Serge Lutens, and really loving the jasmine.
Fils de Joie is such a beautiful fragrance. I would wear it more often if it did not stain light-coloured clothes: to me, the scent itself pairs well with an all-white outfit.
Daniel, I bought this in the summer-it’s a beautiful choice of scent! I wish people around here wore more beautiful scents. I really love the honey note-I find it to be such a warm scent. Nice choice!
My first time wearing it. It is really lovely.😊
Serge Lutens does jasmine scents beautifully.
Tom Ford Noir de Noir
Fall 🍁 weather today.
Tea is London Fog 🌫️
Ha! I almost wore this today! I hardly ever pre-order but this was one of those.
You smell so good. One of my favs.
Infusion d’Iris might be the only FOMO scent I ever bought simply because everyone else was at the time. It didn’t work for me and I swapped it away long ago. I was thinking it might be my only choice for this CP, but then I realized that (a) Ancient Resins fits the “everyone was talking about it at one time so I sprang” mold — that’s my SOTM — and (b) I have several vintage scents purchased (most merely samples or small decants) because of fear that I might never get to try them in their original formulations. That’s probably how I’ll approach this CP for the rest of the week.
We’re having our entire HVAC system replaced — they did the furnace yesterday, and today they’ll do the heat pump and teach us the new controls (touch-pads, oooh!). We were becoming concerned that our old system would fail to keep up with the increasingly extreme weather here — already the old system had to be babied when temperatures were above 90F — and apparently the extremes are only going to get worse, so bullets were bitten and hopefully this will turn out to be money well spent.
Congratulations on the new HVAC system. Having gone through that recently, I know how expensive it is! But you’re no doubt wise to plan ahead given our current realities.
Thanks! And yeah, I lobbied hard for replacing it vs. the bandaid repair that Mr. G wanted. We had already done the bandaid thing last summer when all the heating folks were super busy — I really did not want to get stuck with another months-long wait.
We just went through that this spring. It’s expensive but necessary!
Indeed, on both counts! And a bit amusing right at the moment — one of the workers is super vocal when exerting himself, so there are sound effects with this installation! 🤣
That is 😆
My sister had to replace her decades old swamp cooler with real air conditioning this spring, and basked in the coolness during the extended siege of 100 degree plus days this summer. I am sure it will seem well worth it as you stay warm this winter and cool next summer!
Swamp cooler — what is that? I have a mental image of a huge ice block and an electric fan blowing air across the top of it. 😆😆😆
You are not too far off on the swamp cooler!
Hopefully the new HVAC will be much more energy-efficient and save on your electric bills.
I think that scent was SL Rahat Lokhoum for me and I still love it to this day.
It wasn’t available at that time in my city, you had to go to Paris to buy it at Palais Royal.
I am still sick in bed!!
Sorry you are still sick Hera, hope you are feeling better soon!
Feel better soon!
Feel better soon! Rahat Lokhoum….mmmmmmmmmmm. Love it.
Feel better, Hera!
You smell great, and I hope you feel much better very soon.
Get well soon, Hera!
Sending well wishes your way, Hera!
Hope you feel better soon!
I am wearing Guerlain La Petite Robe Noire EDT and drinking a cup of Irish Breakfast tea.
Love the teapot pic, Robin 🙂
Isn’t that a great teapot?
Wearing no 19 edp. Way back when I was a newbie, Chanel sent an email saying that the no 19 edp was a limited edition, so I bought 2 bottles.
I love the modern version. It is timeless.
You smell good.
I can’t think of anything I bought fomo except samples or decants, and then I can’t remember which ones, so I will pretty much wear whatever this week. Today it’s Jo Malone Myrhh & Tonka.
My sister bought that Jo Malone because of FOMO. It turned out she didn’t like it very much so the bottle ended up in my house. I enjoy it, especially when the weather gets cooler.
It’s great for chilly weather.
Myrrh & Tonka is a cold weather comfort scent for me. So snuggly!
Definitely a comfort scent!
SOTD is ELdO Eau de Protection.
Maybe apply another spray for the Florida folks who are in desperate need of some protection right now! ✌🏼
No kidding. I feel so bad for them. My grandkids live in NC, but about three hours from the destruction there.
Maybe mist it over the whole state.
Lovely dark rose perfume, that one.
Can’t think of a FOMO at moment. I think it was a bit present when I jumped on the Shalimar MVP, MT, and MI train, but really bought those because I was 95% certain I would really enjoy them, which I absolutely do! No regrets on passing up the MJ version, either.
So, from out of left field I decided to wear SL Vetiver Oriental because- 1) it was mentioned yesterday. 2) I find it soothing and calming. 3) it’s understated and doesn’t have a ton of thrown. 4) because I’m feeling a bit unwell today, it doesn’t tweak my sinuses, and it’s just an easy wear. Kind of like being with a lifelong friend hanging out just happy to be in each others company.
The teapot is really cute but I have to admit when this page first populated I thought it was a teapot covered in band-aides and I couldn’t figure out what the hell was going on…my brain just glitched. Happy to see on closer inspection it’s just bikkies! 🙃
Hope you feel better soon, Deva.
Did you ever get to the source of your fridge problem? Has the smell faded yet?
Yes, thanks! It was the seal at the bottom of the door. Some heavy cream had spilled when I was traveling and I thought I cleaned it all up but it kind of seeped into the seal at the bottom of the fridge door. I went after it with a toothbrush and some antiseptic spray cleanser. Fresh as a daisy now. 🙂
I am saving Shalimar MI for Friday😊
I’m surprised you’re not wearing it everyday this week! I know it’s a passionate love of yours…how many BUB’s do you have now? 😉
Just one. I gave up one during the swap for Shalimar EDC plus lots of samples!
Hey, that sounds like a pretty good deal. Had you sampled the edc before and knew you wanted a bottle?
I had not tried it so took a gamble, but I do like it.
Haha! Bandaids is exactly what I thought at first glance 🙂
So glad I’m in good company. It really threw me for a minute. 🙃
Me too 😁
Feel better, Deva!
Thanks, already shook the funk and feeling better. 🙂
Feel better soon!
Thank you!
You’ve got plenty of company in the Teapot Band-aid Crew!
Good to know! 😁
You’ve made me want a teapot with band-aids!
I mean, with my poor vision (this was before the contacts went in) it really looked like bandaids…maybe you could start a new trend…🩹
Love the last line of your description of Vetiver Oriental, plus #2 & #3. It’s been my “lifelong” friend now since I discovered it in 2010 or so.
Hope you feel better soon, Deva.
Thanks, and thank you for mentioning VO yesterday. As soon as I read your post, I thought, “That’s what I’ll wear tomorrow.” 😊
Aww, glad to be of service. 😊
Ha, now I can’t see unsee the bandaids. That will keep me from buying it, or at least, that and the price 🙂
Happy to be if service!🙃

A few more teapots, from the recent Sydney teapot show, 2024.
https://www.theguardian.com/books/article/2024/jun/16/gods-ghostwriters-by-candida-moss-review-did-enslaved-scribes-write-the-new-testament?CMP=Share_iOSApp_Other
I never got back to the reading list as I was working all weekend but one recent book I’ve found interesting is God’s Ghost Writers about the influence and impact enslaved scribes had on the writing of the New Testament. It’s very well written and interesting, and a great exploration of a topic I knew nothing about.
On a similar jag, two Australian novels: Amanda Lohrey, the Conversion. A recent widow takes up her husband’s project of converting a church in small town Australia. Not quite as good as her novel, the Maze ( which won the Australian fiction award the other year) but good nevertheless. Charlotte Wood’s Stone Cold Devotion has recently been shortlisted for the Booker. She’s a great writer. This one, set in rural Australia, is about a woman who goes in a silent retreat .
Just started The Empsium which is set in a sanatorium, harks back to Magic Mountain
Also, Tim Winton has a new novel, Juice. It’s in a different vein from his last books, as it’s set in the future. Strong environmental themes.
I also read Conclave by Robert Harris, about choosing a new pope. Good intrigue but slightly silly end, though quite funny. An okay read for a weekend. Not as good as Precipice, which was about the real-life affair between the British PM and a young woman, during WW1. I think Conclave has been made into a movie with Ralph Fiennes.
Perfume: Autumn Vibes
love all your book posts!
Love those teapots!! Some of them are just hysterical, but really love the Beach Shack one, I would buy that.
Same
Wearing Prada Infusion d’Iris Absolue, largely because I slept in and skedaddled to work without perfume OR breakfast. Both remedied by now…
We were twins!
Gosh, I’m not sure I even own a FOMO scent.
Wearing Baikal Leather today.
I have a very busy week at work.
Translating a document that is proving hard to understand.
I will just soldier on with it.
Are the things you are translating medicine focused or is it all kinds of stuff? I admire folks that speak multiple languages and can’t imagine how difficult it must be to translate without losing the original authors intent/humor/cultural identity.
Wearing Lunamaris and about to crack open a rosé sparkling tea for a pick me up.
I had to google rosé sparkling tea…did not know that was a thing!
I buy a lot of samples entirely because people are talking about them, but then any subsequent purchases are based on direct experience.
So, I’ll define fomo as the very few things I’ve bought unsniffed and with limited availability, where the fomo was real! That is some of the Jean Patou Heritage Collection, and I’m wearing L’Heure Attendue today.
Points!
I will join those of you who saw bandaids on the teapot!
SOTD is SMN Tobacco Toscano. I wore it yesterday and kept wondering around 9pm why I smelled so great. Duh – couldn’t remember till I retraced my steps this morning.
This bottle is 16 years old and still smells wonderful. Perhaps my fear of missing out made me buy everything I could in Florence at SMN that day.
My family is in Florida and while we have been through lots over the years… including earthquakes, a revolution, and other storms over the decades, I am very worried indeed.
My nephew, his wife and my great grand neices are in Tampa, and they have a set of inlaws who moved all the cars and are staying at one location that is not a flood zone.
Of course, my sister is in the north part of the state and am worried about trees falling, her going to join rescues, no phone service…. all of it.
Part of getting older, I suppose. When you are young everything is an adventure and your resilience is stronger.
I must look to you, Glannys and what you deal with everyday. You will be my courage enabler.
I also have family in Florida and am worried. Hugs.
Another one worried about folks in Florida. I hope your family and friends get through this okay.🤞
Joining you in worry and praying for safety of your family and other’s.
I have an aunt in Florida, she is in the middle of the state but I will worry anyway. Fingers crossed for everybody.
Wishing you and all your family courage during this terrible time. Keep us posted.
Hope your family and loved ones stay safe.
I have a little old auntie who lives in the beach breakers south of Tampa, but she and a friend have gone to the eastern side of the state for a few days for safekeeping. Her friend’s condo is still not fully repaired from the last big hurricane how many years ago! Relieved they left well ahead of time. Pray for all the people who can’t get away. I see the mayor of Tampa has made the statement,”If you don’t leave the mandatory evacuation zones now, you are going to die.” I see the Governor telling unhelpful stories about old hurricanes that veered away- apologies in advance, but geez, that guy is an idiot. Sorry, remove this if you need to Robin. When I was 9, there was a hundred years rainstorm in the mountains upstream from our home place farm. My mom got nervous and at 10:30 pm she took us kids to town, to stay at our aunt’s house. When we went back in the morning, the water was up to the window sills in our house, 50 acres of freshly seeded alfalfa pasture was under water, and the farmstead animals were nowhere to be seen. We all stood on the road and watched the water rolling through our hime and our life. Some of the horses got beyond the water up on the hills. The Shetland pony, Fritz, turn up in a neighbor’s barn 3 miles downstream. Some of the chickens and barn cats straggled back from who knows where over the next few days. This was before the age of FEMA. We spent all summer cleaning out the house, the barns, the water cistern, the silage pit, reseeding the pastures and the corn field, seeing what equipment could be repaired and what was shot. Thank God the flocks of sheep were on a different mountain, out of the way of that storm. But this was a financial blow my father took to heart and never really recovered from. Floods are a nightmare.
Hugs, meredifay. I hope the storm will cause as little damage as possible. It’s hard to find the right words.
I’m really touched by your history, meredifay. that sounds awful. This province has had two hurricanes in three years, and bouts of extreme flooding and some wild fires. Those are bad enough. Not as severe as what you just described. I’m glad you survived.
My mother was a smart woman, but I remember her that evening, she seemed anxious all out of proportion to what the storm was like there are the house. She paced, and tried to read to us, as she often did in the evening, but she couldn’t focus. She put us all to bed, and then she got us up and took us to town. She had a premonition. I can’t believe all the people in Florida who are not leaving.
So glad your friend left! While I think there will be enough destruction to pass around, I especially feel for the older Floridians who live in homes/condos/mobile homes that are paid off and have very limited/fixed income. Unless people have a separate flood insurance policy, nothing will be covered and these poor people stand to lose everything without any hope of recompense. I was just reading an article about a homeowner who sustained hurricane damage from some recent storm in Florida. The adjusted appraised the damage as > $250,000 and insurance paid her $8000! Most can’t even afford to sue the insurance companies because in the unlikely event that they actually win the case, the money will all go for attorney fees. It’s just all such a scam! Like your dad, many will never recover-financially or emotionally. So sad.
Glad that your Aunt and her friend bugged out!
What a flood story!
So glad your aunt got out of there.
I’m so happy for your aunt that she had a safe place to go to.
The flood at your family’s farm must have been a horrendous thing to live through, especially as a child. What a burden for you all to carry.
Basking in Goutal’s Musc Nomade today and very happy with it. I’m not sure I have any fragrances purchased out of FOMO but I’m absolutely sure I have some backup bottles purchased because of FORO—Fear Of Running Out—so maybe I’ll wear those for the CP the rest of the week.
I love your SOTD. I have it too-and it was a FOMO bottle, for me 🙂
Musc Nomade is sadly one perfume I did miss out on. I’ve been stalking minis on EvilBay lately.
I am in Assam of India, and it definitely was a FOMO purchase (even if it was just a decant) – you guys kept raving about it here! And I am glad I got it – a great tea with lemon scent.
The weekend was spent as planned. Sleeping, snuggling with Kora, making progress on the cardi. We had a lot of rain, and dry weather arrived only today. Long air raid alerts too, but I only heard loud explosions during one of them.
Assam of India is indeed a great black tea and lemon perfume! ☕🍋
SL Fourreau Noir for me today. I thought I loved it last time I wore it but today it’s a meh for me.
I hate it when that happens.
It’s so random sometimes too! I liked it well enough but definitely not a love!
I really only have one FOMO scent, and I don’t have it here with me, but will share it on Friday, I guess, if I’ve got time to chime in. (Hint: Already mentioned multiple times today.)
Today I wore Hiram Green Voyage 2019, which worked for the day though probably shouldn’t be associated with so much disappointment. I decided to go shopping in our nearby very large city, hoping for more selection. I shouldn’t have, because it is a soulless, generic metropolis unlike any other city in the country, and while there are some very large chain stores there, they are not good. And it was raining, which didn’t help. I needed both shoes and a sweater and could find neither. It made me miss my former homes in Munich and Nürnberg, where there were excellent department stores and shoe stores and perfume stores.
I’m looking forward to leaving on fall break this weekend. But so much work to do beforehand (see shopping above).
Frankfurt?
Yup. I’ve heard for years that Frankfurt is not great, but I remembered going to see a small historical part of the city when I was a kid and so thought it was probably better than everyone says. It’s not. Walking down any given street, I could be in the financial district of Toronto.
Good galleries though, so it’s not all bad
Yes — that’s the one bright spot!
Ha! I was thinking Toronto before I realized that that’s not your part of the world, lol! How could I have forgotten? 😳
I hope your break rejuvenates you!
I am in Hermès Le Jardin de Monsieur Li, ready for bed after a long day.
Sleep well NinaV.
SOTD = MFK Ciel de Gum
One of my favorites!
https://www.instagram.com/p/DA4OYGwRvZe/?igsh=OGc0a2Q0dmhqa3k1
I do math in my head when I grocery shop, not for the total spent but for individual items. Today, I saw a relatively expensive pair of socks that was originally $19 and was $16.09 on sale, less an additional 10% for Prime membership. I also saw a sign for 23% off PACT and Maggie’s One (I think this was the brand). To make a longer story shorter, I went to customer service (CS) and THEY DID NOT KNOW THEIR OWN RULES! So first it was because I did not put in my Prime code and supposedly the only way to do it is via QR code (wrong) and another person “helped”. In any case, I was able to put in my code via my phone number and the CS person said this brand is not part of the sale. I said it was according to the sign. Whatever it was, they did not budge! The bottom line is I did not get the socks and just said I will wait until they’re at least 50% off. 😤😤😤
I was at cvs the other day and they didn’t honor their sign either. It used to be state law here. I didn’t fight it, I just didn’t get the item.
Wearing Iris Torréfié today. I had to know what all the hubbub was about with this one and I’m so glad I did.
Add me to the list of people who thought your Teapot of the Day has Band-aids all over it!
Teflon kitty went back to the vet this morning. Although she is no longer on the antibiotic ear drops, she still wasn’t acting quite right. So the vet swabbed her ears and got quite the surprise from the left one. Loads of gunk in that one. Both ears are swollen and are trapping moisture in them. So Tef had some steroid ear drops prescribed to reduce the swelling and inflammation. Poor kitty.
SOTD = still hanging out in POOF!
Poor kitteh 😱. Hopefully this will clear it up for sure.
Are you buying Poof?
POOF! is making a serious argument for a travel spray purchase. So I might be up to 3 for the next Fzotic haul.
Poor Teflon Kitty! Did they say why she has been having ear problems?
The first thing was a stubborn bacterial ear infection. This is just a consequence of the ear infection. The inner ears are all angry and inflamed.
Hopefully nothing else will be found after this round of medication.
Sending chin scratches to Teflon Kitty. I hope her ears clear up and she feels better soon
She’s probably feeling a little better after getting that crud out of her left ear.
But we aren’t going to enjoy this next round of ear drops.
Poor munchkin
Poor Teflon kitty. Hope those drops work double-quick! Standard poodles are prone to ear infections, and I feel your pain. 🐈⬛😘
Yikes. Poor doggos!
I’m so sorry to hear that Teflon kitty’s ear is still inflamed. I hope she gets well soon!
Thanks foxbins. The first medicine did knock out the bacteria, so that’s a plus.
Oh no, Teflon. I hope the drops help soon.
Thank you Glannys!
Sending healing vibes to the kitty! 💞
Thanks NinaV!
This week I’m wearing the three Shalimar Millesime flankers that I have for the cp. First up today is Millesime Tonka, especially perfect after wearing tonka bomb Feve Delicieuse last night. Shalimar MT is gorgeous. I forgot how close to the skin it wears, so I think it’s appropriate when you’re trying not to gas out others with your perfume.
The Millesime flankers are on my list for the cp too.
I have two of them so they will be mine too.
I’m sampling Hermes Barenia today. At first I got the leather and some odd berry smell. The drydown is much nicer being a powdery Patchouli and something creamy on me. Fragrantica reviews compare it to Angel, like they do with every perfume with Patchouli. Lol. I do not smell the comparison. I like this quite a bit though. It’s priced relatively reasonable and the Sephora sale should be happening soon.
That odd berry smell you are getting is probably the Miracle Berry. You are the first person to mention it specifically that I know of.
I’m in a smorgasbord of Tom Fords because I passed by Nordstroms today and popped in to sniff. Vanilla Sex, which is much more almond than vanilla to my nose, Vanilla Fatale, Tuberose Nue, and Santal Blush (because TayTay). Luckily they all work together and Mr Vee is away on business, so I only cropdusted the kitties and (briefly a few neighbors I ran into). These are all well done, but only VS seems unique. Not that it matters — I can’t stomach the price.
Tea today is F&M Wedding Tea.
LOL at “cropdusted the kitties”!
I thought the same thing. Too funny!
I love the shape of the teapot, but I’m just not a fan of Fornasetti.
I can only bring to mind one FOMO purchase, so that’s for Friday. Maybe something will come to mind before then. SotD is Diptyque 34 Boulevard Saint Germain. Love this one so much, it feels almost custom-made for me. I have the EdT (and a BUB), and when the EdP came out, had to have that one, too! The different bottle design and the absolutely gorgeous art-deco box didn’t hurt, either.
We’re twin twins re: not being a fan of Fornasetti and loving Diptyque 34 in all of its beautiful forms.
Twins! ♊️
You smell great!
Thanks, Nina!
