It’s Hump Day plus National Comic Book Day. Birthdays: William Faulkner, Donald Glover, Glenn Gould, Pedro Almodóvar. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in L'Artisan Havana Vanille / Vanille Absolument.
Reminder: 9/27 will be Young(ish) Guns Friday...wear a perfume by Jérôme di Marino, Quentin Bisch, Fanny Bal or Dora Baghriche, if you have one. If you don't, see if you can think of another mainstream perfumer aged 45 or under that you can represent.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2024, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

I am sort of CP-compliant in Lush Cardamom Coffee (solid). The perfumer is Simon Constantine, who was 23 in 2005, so about 42 now. “Sort of”, because I am not sure if Lush qualifies as “mainstream”. Probably not!
I love that little solid, Glannys. And I gave it to my sister. You smell great.
Close enough Glannys!
SOTD is Mitsouko.
Thanks for all the recommendations on my samples. I think I need to try the Fzotic again and see if I continue to get the BWF. I am going to purchase Indochine since I really liked that one.
Indochine is a great purchase.
Maybe see what Au Dela Narcisse is like in different seasons? I know some perfumes behave very differently, depending on the weather and climate.
You are probably right.
I’m a few days late but today I broke out my one autumn standby, Yves Rocher Homme Nature Millénaire, which smells amazingly like fall’s dried leaves and loam.
I bet you smell great! Do they still make that one?
No, it’s been discontinued for ages, unfortunately, like all the good YRs. (As the name suggests, it was launched in 2000 and wasn’t available for very long.) I have enough to last me the rest of my life, but honestly, it should be available to everyone all the time. It’s really exceptional.
You smell awesome! I have and ❤️ the women’s version and also have enough to last forever. It was sold as a summer fragrance; I saved the advert from their catalog from way back then. But I, too, pull it out in the fall, one of my fall favorites!
sotd = Eau de Guerlain
I love the minty-lemony coolness in this cologne. 🍃🍋
The label says it’s by Jean-Paul Guerlain in 1974. Old guard perfumery for sure.
I’m listening to Lithonia by Childish Gambino on the radio. 🎵
What’s your Wu Tang name? I’m Drunken Criminal. 😂

Wishing you all a happy day! 🌸
Arrogant Ambassador!
oh! Love it! That’s perfectly ironic. 😄
E-ratic Dreamer. Very appropriate! 🤣
Super cool! I’m jealous. 😆
I am “Midnight Ambassador”. I like it!
Niiiiice!!! 🌝🌠
Fun! Amateur Swami for my sister’s dog.
arf! 🐶 All dogs know how to down dog. 🧘♀️Namaste! 🕉️
I can’t find how old Imaginary Authors’ Josh Meyer is, but he looks like he is under 45. I can finish the week with Imaginary Authors perfumes. Today is a fall favorite, Yesterday Haze.
Mom’s newish caretaker called in sick again, she has yet to work a full week. It is so hard to find help for elderly caretaking and we both like her so well, but every week there is something. It makes it hard to plan for anything.
Oh dear. Having done this for both parents, it is difficult and exhausting in so many ways.
Thanks apsara.
You smell great today ringthing!! And good luck. It is true that there is a lot of crud going around, hope things settle.
I’m hoping for you that she can become more reliable soon.
Woke up late today and decided on L’heure de Nuit today. My finger is almost finished healing. After thinking about how the wound was a huge crater, I will be happy to not having to keep changing the bandage. I have no idea oh how many band aids I have gone through in 2 and a half weeks.
So glad it is better!!
Late to the game, but I’m finally trying “Lovely” from Sarah Jessica Parker. Aptly named! I’ve read that she was truly involved with its creation, and I gotta say, it’s really nice, and easy to wear. Not daring or challenging, but I’m enjoying it.
I like Lovely, though I’ll admit I prefer to enjoy it on someone else.
Covet and Stash were much more my speed.
Stash is the other SJP that I’ve tried – yeah, it’s really good.
I really enjoy Covet and Stash but though I tried Lovely several times I am for some reason anosmic to it!
Covet was the only SJP perfume that worked for me.
Lovely was really my first perfume I bought in 2005 when I really got interested in perfume. I still enjoy it. It may be the only perfume I have, thus far, on which I am on my second bottle.
I also own Stash which I also enjoy but I have to be in the mood for that one.
Hello all!
Been busy busy with semester, as expected but also very sad. I had my final “exam 1,” biochemistry. It’s not hard material but our professor doesn’t give us an inch. It was also so long he showed up 90 minutes early. (I took two hours if you’re wondering.)
I’m wearing Olim by Trudon, a panic buy since it’s apparently been discontinued. Managed to find one for a reasonable price and paid with credit card points. 😂
Stay safe, everyone!
Two hours?! For one exam? That seems a little unnecessary. Perfumed by Points- the best perfume buy of the century! 🙂
Yes, but he was there for over three hours! I think he knew it was too long. I know at least one person didn’t finish….
SOTD is B683, done by Quentin Bisch. It’s a great scent for fall/winter with its spice, amber, wood and incense. I checked it on Fragrantica, and it doesn’t list any incense in the notes, but several commenters mentioned it. At least I know my nose isn’t completely useless! There is not much progression, and the lasting power isn’t there. Plus, there’s the incense. I can always detect it because I dislike it so much, except in rare cases.
Tonight I plan to break out one of my newest acquisitions, Prada’s Day for Night. I’ve gone through several large samples, so I figured it was time to break down and buy it. It’s such a lovely, light amber. I get a chypre feeling to it as well, if that makes any sense.
This is one of a series that was (is?) only available in their boutiques, but of course I didn’t pay the full price. I get a kick out of the names for them – they’re all the titles of older movies.
That Prada sounds great! I don’t think I have heard of it before.
They’re definitely under the radar, probably because they’re only available in the boutiques.
Day for Night sounds quite pretty!
I’ll send you a sample!
Thank you!
For a cold and rainy day I am wearing Musc Tonkin. I leave for Japan in two weeks and I am starting to think about what to wear. It’s tricky, October weather there could be warm or it could be cold. I have layers, but getting them to coordinate is the issue.
For Friday I only have perfumes by Mr. Bisch, but I have two from which to choose. I guess I will see which one I feel like wearing on the day!
If you have CdG Kyoto, I think that would work. The more subtle the better or forgo it all together.
I’m in Le Lion, and it’s pretty perfect for the weather and my mood-just the right thing!
Now since a bunch of people are out sick here and so I’ve got overtime coming out my ears-wondering about Chcnel Comete. I’ve read reviews and think it could be good. Might be my present to myself. I could also be fiscally responsible and just save the money, for a change. I’ll wait a few weeks and see how I feel.
Never hurts to wait a few weeks…wish I’d done that more in my buying days.
I’m wearing Divine L’Esprit Libre by Yann Vasnier I don’t know when he was born, but he looks young.
Well, society tells us looking young is priority number one, so he’s on point.
Fortunately looking young seems slightly less obligatory in Europe, but still…..
I’ve always refused to dye my hair as it started turning grey. Too much hassle and too expensive. Interestingly the first hairdresser who responded positively to this was way younger than I am.
I used semipermanent color since my 20’s because I started going gray then. It wasn’t the color I minded so much but the texture of the gray hair. Semipermanent color helped to make the gray more manageable and easier to to deal with. Now it’s just one big partly frizzy/partly corkscrew mess which I cut on my own. Because it’s curly it doesn’t even matter if it’s uneven. That’s how much a care nowadays.
That is young, I don’t know what I would have done in that case. I was in my mid forties, which makes a huge difference. There is a great book in French called “Une apparition” by Sophie Fontanel that describes her transition from died hair to grey hair with a lot of philosophical asides. I don’t think it has been translated unfortunately.
Feeling very productive today and I only wish I felt like this more often. Alas, I like to daydream. Anyway, what one thinks is a simple task is almost always more complicated in a camper. I wanted to get my stove and range looking brand spanking new today so that required removing screws. Not regular screws that you have a handy screwdriver for, but the square head kind that requires you hunt around for the right bit. Finally found the right size but then couldn’t find a socket to fit it in after rummaging around in miscellaneous tools (three totes full 🙄). Decided to just use my drill, but of course the battery was dead. Finally got it charged enough to work, took everything apart and found the missing back to my watch which went flying in the air two weeks ago when I was trying to change the battery. Score! 🤣
I’m achieving maximum productivity in Au Coeur du Desert because I’m fancy like that! Hoping this get ‘er done mood lasts me throughout the day because I’d like to take off the door and plumb it as well as give doggo a bath.
The weather here is perfect but I’m thinking of my homies is the Tampa/St Pete area. Very worried about rain fall, storm surge, and winds with hurricane Helene…🌀
Also, so glad I sold my house and don’t have the anxiety of making an impromptu visit to Florida post hurricane for storm damage evaluation…
In honor of Faulkner:
“The only thing worth writing about is the human heart in conflict with itself.”
Amen, brother!
What a screwy fiasco!
😜
Yes, Deva, everyone in my family is in Florida. My sister just got her mani/pedi in case the rest of the week is horrid.
You smell great!
Thank you, and hoping your friends and family make it through unscathed!
Hoping that the folks in FL under mandatory evacuations get outta Dodge!
Like Deva, I’m sending my concerns and warm thoughts to people in Florida. Hard to admit that we in Houston and the Texas Gulf Coast are glad we’re dodging this one. I’m not doing much with the CP as I don’t seem to have a thing for it. The mailman just brought my eBay purchase of a bottle of ORIGINAL Sublime perfume body mist by Patou. I only sprayed a bit on because I’ve got an eye doctor appointment this afternoon. Smells good, like I remembered! I wasn’t sure about this formulation but I felt confident it really would be the original and the seller seems very reliable.
Congrats on the perfume find and good luck with the eye appointment!
Ooooooooh, an original Patou! NICE!
Ooh, Sublime! Never was a perfume more aptly named! Its golden richness is an autumn favorite of mine once the leaves have turned their fall color. Somehow both just seem to go together.
Today is another Dyptique sample from the new collection.
Rose Roche? It’s beautiful upon application and there’s a lemon burst that is lovely. ( not like Lemon Pledge)
Will see how it wears by the time I sit down with Slow Horses tonight.
Non-Pledge lemon sounds nice…
Thanks to allo for mentioning Julien Rasquinet yesterday and Glannys confirming he’s under 45. I’m in one of his creations today, Naomi Goodsir Bois D’Ascese. It’s smoky and woody, perfect for a cooler day with rain coming in soon.
You smell wonderful. I still have about a third left in my bottle.
Am at home and trying a couple of Lubin samples again. Condottiere isn’t doing as well as I’d expected in the cold rain, but Upper Ten is wafting warm candle wax, rather like CdG Stephen Jones if I remember correctly.
That perked my ears up…Stephen Jones is one of my many regrets.
I don’t have any perfumes by any of the perfumers that Robin mentioned, but I’ll take the approach a few others have of looking at the perfumer’s photo – and assume it’s recent 🙂 .
I’m wearing Mon Nom est Rouge by Cecile Zarokian. She looks under 45, but I’ve also been seeing that same photo for quite a few years…
Cécile might be in denial about her real age.
Gaynor it turns out I don’t either. I suspect this project was a huge mistake but we’ll see!
I’m having a super busy day. Checking in wearing Dolce and Gabbana Sicily. I’m so happy to have this back in my collection again. Banana, aldehydes and Caress soap.
Hope your super busy day is a decent one!
Thanks. It’s winding down now, but tomorrow will be just as busy.
Today I’ve dusted off my decant of Creed’s Angelique Encens, which I fell in love with about 15 years ago when I first got on MUA. Why haven’t I worn this more? So gorgeous. Incense, angelica, touch of vanilla, ambergris. Not sure who the perfumer is but we know it’s not Olivier Creed or his father now that the tawdry veil has been pulled back from their faux origins. Could it be Pierre Bourdon? He’s definitely not a spring chicken. The internet is no help on this one, but it’s a haunting magical fragrance that unfortunately is d/c or as they say, ‘vaulted.’
Always nice to revisit an old love!
House and perfumer twins with therabbitsflower in Iris Cendré.
I need to look around and see if I can find one of his for Friday.
Another day of stunning blue skies. Temps are in the upper 80’s. Perfect day for a long drive to meet with my financial advisor here; it was 52 miles one way. But! I saw the Red Rocks Amphitheater from one of the highways I was driving on. Made me smile.
For the curious: the Marvels II set contains the following: Au Coeur de Desert extrait, Cologne de Mahgreb EdC, Phthaloblue EdP, Sundowner EdP, and Air des Alpes Suisses EdP. I suspect at least one of them might be too much on the fresh side for my taste. Did not test any of them today.
SOTD = L’Artisan Timbuktu. So I am house twins with Robin today. Timbuktu serves a similar purpose as Chanel No. 19 Poudree does for me.
Glad it was good weather for your long drive!
Thanks! That plus favorable traffic made for easy driving; no jams and no accidents.
The only one I’ve tried is the Au Coeur du Desert, and I liked it very much; it is very similar to the d/c YR Nature Millenaire referred to in pyramus’ comment above. Saw that Red Rocks Amphitheater on TV once when someone had a concert there. I can’t remember who the performer was, but I sure remember how stunning Red Rocks was. Would love to see something there for real!
I noticed that Autocorrupt messed up both Au Coeur du Desert and Cologne du Mahgreb!
Red Rocks is definitely worth seeing a favorite artist there. I was lucky enough to see Def Leppard in the late 1980’s.
I’ve tried Au Coeur de Desert and Cologne de Mahgreb and loved them both—but then I have always had a soft spot for Andy’s scents.
I have a sample of Au Coeur du Desert around somewhere that I just can’t find, so figured I’d get another. I loved it the first time around.
Never tried Cologne du Mahgreb, so I am looking forward to it.
Wore Shalimar Parfum Initial today. We had a rain storm and some thunder this afternoon. Hopefully temps are finally on the cool down; it feels great to have the windows and doors wide open.
It is nice to open the windows. Especially in the early morning.
It sure is! Yes, I agree, morning is a good time to open everything up.
