Happy Friday the 13th! Also, Roald Dahl Day, and one of several versions of International Chocolate Day. Our community project for today: wear the fragrance from the oldest bottle in your collection that you bought new (in other words, not counting any vintage fragrance purchases, etc). Hat tip to Gail for the suggestion!
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
As I said yesterday, I have no way of identifying my oldest bottle bought new. I'm in Diptyque L'Ombre dans L'Eau, which is probably close enough.
Reminder: on 9/20, we're off to Mainland Southeast Asia! Wear a perfume that is named for a place in Mainland Southeast Asia (we'll include Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam and West Malaysia), or that reminds you of a (real or imaginary) trip to to the region, or that features a local ingredient, or ?
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2024, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

De-lurking and returning to an interest in perfumes after a long hiatus. Wearing Je Reviens parfum that I bought circa 1968. Yes, I guess there’s no escaping the fact that I’m old! The top notes were a little damaged but the dry down as lovely as I remembered.
Hello scaresbears! I’ve owned many vintage variations of this one over the years and the top does get damaged in a lot of them, but then it roars into delicate but long-lastinglife.
Thanks, that’s good to know given that I have another parfum mini and an Eau de cologne of the same vintage. Apparently even in high school I panicked and bought back-up before actually running out. Some things about us don’t change!
So glad it is still wearable! And welcome to the party 🙂
Thank you for giving me a reason to unearth and wear it. Though an off-grid water access cabin in northern Lake Huron might not be the milieu it’s creators expected for it I enjoyed it a great deal.
Oh, I’m pretty sure that’s exactly when and where you should wear it!
Hello, scaresbears! Glad you de-lurked.
Thank you!
Welcome, scarebears! Always happy to see someone drop their cloaking device! 😉
Thank you, glad to be here. This time down the rabbit hole I hope to do more thoughtful wearing of scents and less buying of new ones! Samples excepted of course.
Sorry about the typo on your screenname. Missed it when I was proofreading. 😖
Welcome to the club! You smell lovely. I have an old parfum de toilette of Je reviens in which the top notes are a faded and a more moden parfum. A cabin, how romantic.
Hello and tgif!
My CP if I have understood it correctly (thanks Robin for your help!), is Rahat Loukoum. My old bottle is from 2011 and just bought new 2 weeks ago when I saw bell jars actually being sold in my local Lutens!
Oh, you smell good, I love Rahat! My bottle is a couple of years older than yours, a much loved souvenir of my only trip to Paris. There’s not much left in the bottle, perhaps it’s time for another trip to France?❤️
You smelled great today, love Rahat!
I love the flowers in the picture, Robin!
I am wearing SL Chergui – it was one of my first FB purchases.
Tilleul is another strong candidate, but the spray stopped working, I tried removing it with pliers but failed. Now I have a bottle with about 10 ml left, and I can’t use it. Any ideas?
SL twins!
Yep. I think a lot of people began their perfume journey with a Serge Lutens scent.
There’s a kind of travel spray bottle that somehow plugs into the tube in the spray head (someone here should know the brand, it’s like Travalo or something), and that might get most of what’s left out and usable.
Yes, but does not it need a functioning spray head? Even after I remove the spray head and press on the tube, no liquid comes out.
But anyway – it looks like a lot of perfume evaporated due to this malfunctioning sprayer. There are only a few mls left, so maybe I should just accept the bottle’s early demise.
You can empty the bottle if you have a syringe that fits the white tube central in the spray mechanism. You attach the tip to that tube, tip the bottle upside down so that the remaining liquid fills the top of the bottle and pull out the plunger of the syringe.
Do you mean a syringe without a needle? Basically you say I should put the syringe opening (the part where your normally attach the needle) over the tube and tip the bottle upside down? I can try, but considering that no liquid comes out of the tube when I tip the bottle, I do not see how a syringe would help.
Yep a syringe without a needle. The vacuum you create in the syringe will draw out the liquid.
It works for one of my bottles with a similar problem.
Tried with two syringes (a smaller and a bigger one) but both are not large enough to fit one the tube. I suspect the diameter is standard for all syringes sold here. Tried with the needle, but then the liquid drips down the needle. Still, it is a progress, thanks.
Sorry it didn’t work!
I will often use a warmed pin to widen the opening of (needless) syringe to make it large enough to fit over the bottle’s tube. And I’d leave the bottle right-side-up since you need the perfume to go up the tube. If that fails, you could get a glass cutter and cut off the neck of the bottle.
I love those flowers, too! They seem to just be shouting joy and happiness! 😍 Hope you had a quiet night and your battery thingamabob is working for you. As far as the perfume goes, I think you can remove the entire top but then run the risk of the glass cracking or shattering…
No battery, since I need to wait for the service center to do their thing. And it can take up to 2 weeks, unfortunately (plus shipping, assuming the UPS will be fixed).
The problem is I can’t remove the sprayer. It moves when I rotate it with pliers but does not come off. Maybe I am not strong enough or need another tool.
Yes, maybe another tool? I would try prying off the metal from the glass where the entire top fits onto the bottle. Hope that helps!
I had a similar problem. I finally discovered that the metal seal around the top of the bottle was so soft that I could slowly destroy it with a hefty pair of pliers.
I love them too, wish they would bloom here in September. (And maybe they would, I don’t know what they are.)
Good luck getting that Tilleul out of the bottle, that’s annoying.
pbi, maybe it’s a silk tree?
Yeah, I don’t know enough…
Mimosa pudica, according to Google Lens.
Many thanks Glannys!
It is not quite hardy in my zone, but really my zone is changing…looks like some people also grow them indoors but they sound finicky.
Hope you can get those last mLs of Tilleul out! No new ideas here, sorry.
I overthink everything, and I racked my brain over this! I have some miniatures that I got in the eighties that I gave to my mom and then reclaimed decades later, but I didn’t know if they should count — the whole chain-of-custody thing, plus did I actually buy them or acquire them as GWPs or whatever? As I said, overthinking.
So I’m wearing Yves Rocher Aztek, which I definitely bought in 1993 and have had ever since. It’s not life-changing, but it is a very nice spicy-woody scent. Shame about the hideous bottle.
YR has had some pretty nice perfumes over the years, and very good value too.
They sure did! The eighties and nineties were a golden age for them.
You are so right! You and I like many of the same YR scents, Nature Millenaire and the chocolate/orange Christmas one come to mind.
Wish I could go back in time and buy these and Neonatura! All’s I got is a Comme Une Evidence which does not flip my skirt. Actually I have a Delire d’Autome that is also good and I really also like the Venise one in tall sloping red glass bottle, so pretty. I like the orange note in that one.
My oldest bottle in my collection is Chanel 31 Rue Cambon. I believe I purchased it around 2010, but not positive. Even though I have kept it in a cool, dark place, I have noticed the juice is getting darker in color.
Most of my early bottles were purchased 2004 & 2005…lots of them have changed color!
The bottle of TM Angel I purchased in 2012-ish has changed color and I keep my perfumes away from heat and light, too.
No points for me, but I am in Gabrielle Essence.
I have some samples of this and its been a easy no brainer scent that makes me feel feminine and happy!
Yay for that 🙂
So I don’t know if I meet the project requirements, because I’m wearing Eau de Calandre by Paco Rabanne. This is at least from the 1970’s, because my grandmother passed in 1978, and this was one of the bottles my Mom gave to me.
My mom had this one and I loved it.
You know we are not picky about the rules 🙂
I had to give my collection a good going-over and I think my oldest bottle is Donna Karan Black Cashmere. I purchased it as a backup bottle to my first bottle of BC. I adore Black Cashmere but it’s very hot and dry here, so I’m wearing (what else) No 5 L’Eau.
Happy Friday everyone!
And you are smelling great!
Same weather here and no rain in sight for almost a week.
If we’re going to have a drought, I wish it would happen in the winter!
Yes! I thought of Black Cashmere too but really too much to wear to work when the temps are in the 80s.
I learned about Black Cashmere here at NST. It’s one of my favorites.
It’s just a great scent.
Not as hot here, but definitely dry! I almost envy the folks getting hurricane leftovers.
Our weather guy thought we would get some remnants of Francine but it was only the south part of the state that did.
Traveling back to the farm from Richmond today, so my options were limited. Still, I think I’ve managed the CP: one of the older bottles of PdN Le Temps d’une Fete, a Best Beloved and one that I bought several bottles of. This particular bottle might not be THE oldest, but it’s older, probably pre-2012, and still smells lovely. The older formulations have more emphasis on the woods and opoponax, so I think it’s perfectly appropriate for our early-autumn weather.
You smell devine!
I am wearing Mitsouko today. I bought a 75 mil back in the day as the second fragrance in my collection and still have almost half. Those big bottles sure do last awhile.
Don’t they ever! I have a 150 ml bottle of Bulgari’s blue tea and, despite wearing it a lot, is taking me a good decade to empty.
That’s a good one.
This was a little hard to work out: usually when I buy a bottle I a) use it up or b) have given it away. I therefore needed to look at bottles of perfume I infrequently wear, but do like. (or: honking big bottles, bu I shy away from those)
Anyway, I am in Big Belly Button – ca. 2007 Holt Renfrew had a batch of ELOs on sale as they were no longer stocking the line, and I bought a couple. One I gave away, but kept bbb and Rien.
Even nicer that you got it at a good discount!
You kept a couple of excellent ones from ELdO.
Well surprise, surprise! It dropped below freezing here last night. Very unexpected on my part. I also had an unexpected visitor yesterday. Had my windows open yesterday and ended up with a bat, who must have been disturbed from his roost nearby, flap right in and take up space between my screen and window. There he was, hanging in the usual way bats hang, watching me move around the camper. Anyway, silly me, I thought he might be stuck and not know how to get out, so I opened the window all the way. Then he tried to get in between the panes of glass, so I shut the window about 3/4 again, and he relaxed and commenced his day time bat nap. I figured he would fly off after sunset so I didn’t want to close the window all the way because then he would definitely be stuck. And did I mention it dropped below freezing last night? I slept with the window open so he could make a safe escape but my feet were cold all night. Oh, the sacrifices we make…😂🦇 He was adorable though. He had a wizened, curmudgeonly old man face and it was instant love on my part! 😍
As for perfume, I’ll continue to ignore the CP because I really have no idea. Since it’s some kind of Chocolate Day somewhere, I’m going with Amour de Cacao because the weather is right and it’s a very simple, easy to wear fragrance that makes everyone around me wonder where that great smell is coming from. 😊
Happy friYAY!
Nice of you to let the bat stay the night. What about T-Rex? She did not see him?
Oh, she definitely saw it! But she knows what “leave it” means and then I just pulled down the blind on that particular window. Out of sight, out of mind…
Don’t know if you can access IG stories, but he’s (she) is the star of the show, including T-Rex looking at him longingly. The face only a mother could love! And me of course! 🦇
You’re a good soul Deva, I adore bats and they’re mostly endangered. I remember a mini bat in Provence napping behind a shutter, I kept visiting it, I was so happy.
Bats are just amazing.
Like crocs and komodo dragons, so ancient looking.
When I visited the Seychelles, there were fruit bats hanging everywhere!
I’ve decided, after a little investigation, that it was the species Myotis lucifugus, or little brown bat. While not endangered yet, they are in decline (like most bats) due to destruction of habitat and Pseudogymnoascus destructans, which has devastated bat populations in North America. Is this fungus a problem there, too? I came across a bat cave in my travels a few years ago that was closed to any human visitors because the fungus can be carried in on shoes, clothing, etc, and it was a birthing colony location… anyway, my visitor made off during the night and I’m hoping he made it home safely and with a full belly. 😊
There is a great bat cave in Gainesville in Florida.
And one in Thailand that we visit.
The fungus is decimating their numbers, yes.
I think bats are good pollinators too.
And they eat so many mosquitoes!
I adore bats in theory…from a distance 😉
This!
This x 3!!!
Thank you for sharing the bat story – I loved it! – and for being so kind to it.
I thought of you last weekend coming home from the Evanston folkfest. Caught a glimpse of a bubble tea shop in Skokie called ‘Tea-Rex’ featuring a large smiling green dinosaur as its logo but you know what I I saw instead? 😄
I love me some animals! 🥰 The more maligned they are by culture, the more I love them. One glaring exception is Palmetto Bugs. I can only DREAM about them becoming extinct…🪳Who’s with me? 😀
My bugaboo, so to speak, is the tarantula hawk wasp. They are so big they eat tarantulas. Yup. Their stingers are two inches long and produce the most painful string known to man, like you lose bodily function it’s so bad.
They are huge and black with long dangly legs and orange wings and they fly everywhere in our local mountains (the Verdugos) and are now invading the green space of our local park. I see them almost every day, whereas I used to only see them on hikes in the hills. Oh, and their only predators are bullfrogs and roadrunners, neither of which we have here (maybe bullfrogs in season, I dunno, but they are nor roaming around trying to catch them, that’s sure)). Just google it and you will see the horror for yourself.
string, not string.
Oh and Deva you must have seen these in your desert wanderings.
omg let’s try for #3.
Sting!!
This is how much just the thought of them skeeves me out.
Well, much to my dismay, I looked them up. If given a choice, I’ll take the tarantula over the tarantula wasp any day of the week!
UGH! Bletch! Palmetto bugs are horrifying!
I’m quite sure I have PTSD from living so many years in Florida due to those monsters…🫠
You are braver than me! I had a bat in the house a few years ago and dealt with it by locking myself and kitties in the bedroom and calling animal control 😂
I hope they were able to get it out safely and that you and the cats were able to maintain sanity while it happened! 🙃
He was in such a deep sleep that he barely woke up when animal control moved him outside! My cats were super seniors, so they were more likely to be chased by the bat than the other way around 😂
HA, I called the local police last time. They came, too!
Aw, you had a cute little flying mouse as a visitor! Glad he/she was OK.
They weight less than an ounce!!! So tiny! So cute! 🦇
I’m in my former beloved daily wear, Jil Sander No. 4, my last of probably four bottles drained during the 90s. Its discontinuation was what drove me down the rabbit hole, and thank goodness I discovered the perfume blogosphere before finding out that JS4 could still be obtained through online resources or I might still be wearing it! Instead, I’ve been introduced to such beauties as 24 Faubourg, Au Delà Narcisse, Tam Dao, Gucci EDP and SMN Eva, among others.
Jil Sander No. 4 is such a powerhouse! And so pretty!
It is! I had mostly forgotten how lovely it is after not wearing it for almost 20 years. And I can’t believe how MUCH of it I used to wear. Times were different, and perfume levels were certainly higher back then. 😜
This was a green violet floral powerhouse. I used to wear it alot too and I still appreciate it but now i’m on to other things.
Au Dela Narcisse and Gucci EdP (clear bottle, brown juice) are some amazing scents!
Well, my CP entry from the self-decanted travel sprays that I brought along to Ireland is Prada Infusion d’Iris. I am pretty bored with it but it does smell nice.
If I were at home, my SOTD for the CP would probably be whatever remains in my tiny bottle of Fracas parfum.
Mr. Skal and I both seem to be getting colds, and we have a busy weekend. Off to make another cup of tea.
Sorry to hear that you and Mr. Skal have caught something.
Ugh, get better!
Happy Friday! I’m wearing oilily Spanish rose, which apparently came out in 2003, which is probably when i bought it at anthropologie, probably with my student loan money, haha. I think its freesia and wood…I wouldn’t choose this again if I found it in the store.
But you held on to it! Excellent!!
Oh, I remember Oilily! I haven’t thought about them in a very long time. If I remember correctly, a friend had one of their perfumes, but I never had any. I found out about, tried, and bought a bunch of the perfumes at Anthropologie back in the day. Some I still have and really enjoy actually
Wearing no 5 edp from my very first bottle of no 5 that I bought. Finger is starting to feel a bit better.
I used to think I didn’t like No. 5. It’s funny how tastes change over the years because I have the edt (my husband’s grandmother’s) and L’Eau thanks to a generous NSTer and I love them both.
That’s funny because I could say ditto to everything that you said except that I didn’t get my bottles from people. I bought them. It is weird how our tastes change as we get older.
If I run out I’d buy more!
no cp points for me-I’m using my sample of Heaven Can wait. I do like this, and if I could find the 10 ml size I’d buy it.
This one sounds nice though I have not tried it.
Eau de Cartier for the cp. Pretty sure I’ve had this since early 00s. I’d almost forgotten I have this one. Loved it then didn’t, but held onto it and can now appreciate its light crystalline beauty again.
Heading out for a long walk. Mr. SP is on a trip to see his bro and attend a football game so I’ve got the house to myself for a few days and will enjoy being able to go through my closet as well as get everything off the perfume shelves to organize without getting in anyone’s way.
Have fun with all of your spaciousness!
My hubs has been traveling for work a lot lately and while I love him dearly I sincerely appreciate alone time the older I get.
Amen.
Funny how some perfumes go from like to dislike and back to like again. I’ve had it happen too.
Me too😉
Enjoy your time alone!
I’m wearing my oldest (I think) bottle, which is the lovely little frosted pearl in which comes Boucheron Initial. I probably got it soon after it came out (2000) and it was, sadly, discontinued by around 2004. It’s a wonderful and potent combination of pepper, citrus, florals, and some almond musk in the base. I think my little bottle still smells very nice, and that pepper note at the top is making me especially happy and sprightly this morning.
I love a black pepper note in perfumes! Too bad I missed my chance with that one, it sounds right up my alley.
It really is a good one. I have no idea whether you can find it any more from eBay and other online sources. Speaking of pepper, have you tried Le Labo Poivre 23? It’s one of the City Exclusives. I’m currently torn between buying it and Myrrhe 53. Both are beautiful. The Poivre 23 is an exceptionally nice pepper scent, imho.
I know what were the first perfumes I bought brand new back in the day, but I actually wore them a lot and used them all up. Original Dior Poison, small spray of Espirit de Parfum, then few years later, Bvlgari Eau Parfumée Au Thé Vert, which I loved so much that I even had the deodorant from the series, and then Goutal Eau d’Hadrien. Thinking about other perfumes I bought after that, I realized one is sitting right here on my computer desk, Strange Invisible Perfumes Aquarian Roses. It’s the old style round bottle and I remember I bought from Beauty Habit for princely sum of $135. It such a beautiful mix of all natural rose, marjoram and real sandalwood. Bonus points, it goes great with the very potent essential oils based bug spray I have on, after I had to step out into our garden earlier on.
I have been on a rose perfume kick lately and I also have bottles of SIP Black Rosette and DSH Rose Vert next to Aquarian Roses. DSH Perfumes has a flash sale this week – coupon code is hbd18 – and I ordered another bottle of Rose Vert in EdP and one more in parfum concentration.
Propers to you for being able to navigate the DSH website!
That’s my problem…I used up all the early bottles.
One of my oldest new bottle purchases is an SIP too – L’Invisible. I also bought mine from Beauty Habit but at 20% off so $108. I remember it being my first perfume purchase over $100. I finished off my bottle a couple years ago, but I did keep the box and bottle.
Happy Friday the 13th fragrant friends.
There was another earthquake this morning, but I slept through that one.
Yesterday I went to the most expensive mall in Orange County to exchange something. I went in and came out and passed Celine bottles all lined up and Hermes and Jo Malone and Dior and whoa – 6 years ago I would have come home with so many purchases.
I did stop to spray Gabrielle and like LTSG, its very cheerful. I may use my Ulta points for a bottle.
which one did you try? The original or one of the flankers?
The l’eau I think. It’s very sparkly at the opening and uplifting.
I cannot imagine going thru earthquakes! Hoping you stay safe 🤗.
Well, like other things we habituate ourselves.
I am fine, thanks for checking.
Lived through massive earthquakes in Iran, Northern CA and here in SoCal.
Was today’s earthquake an aftershock from yesterday’s?
There are two other “oldest” perfumes I wore years ago that I don’t have anymore–DVF Tatiana and L’Heure Bleue in the blue and white metal purse spray. But I still have the original bottle of what I’m wearing today. I probably bought it at the Macy’s in Queens in the mid 80’s. It’s LouLou. It still smells good!
Tatiana. MMMMMM
LouLou MMMMMM
Loved them both.
I love vintage LouLou – it is a real Top Ten for me. Have you tried the current version? I’ve had it in and out of my cart on FragranceNet a few times, but as I have a lifetime supply of the vintage…
I haven’t tried the current version. Plus, my tastes have changed a bit.
The modern LouLou has all the color and verve leached out. A sad hologram. I would save my pennies, esp if like you said you have stockpiled the vintage.
I had a current version from about 10 year’s ago. To me, it was recognizable Loulou but not as big.
Thanks for the reports you guys! I am happy that at least *something* recognizable as LouLou is still out there for the next generation!
My oldest bottles go back to the 70s and 80s and are gone with the exception of Joy and 1000 by Patou.
I do have a bottle of Susanne Lang Pashmina from Saks that must be from late 80s early 90s?
It came in a set – Cashmire, Red Ginger ( I think) and Pashmina.
They were all cozy, warm, spicy as I recall.
Might give it a whirl.
Oh, I envy having a bottle of Joy from the 70s! It must have been so much better then.
Everyone seems to have all these sophisticated scents whereas I’m proudly sporting a lot of Escada Rockin’Rio. Which I thought was my oldest new bottle, turns out it isn’t. I bought it in 2005, and liked it so much that I finished a bottle, bought another bottle and bought a back up. I hardly ever wear it these days, but it is fun.
I think that my bottle of First is probably a year older.
The pineapple note in Rockin’Rio was pretty close to the real thing, IIRC.
I definitely went through a bottle of Rockin’ Rio around the same time as you. Many of my oldest bottles are sweet perfumes because that’s mainly what I wore before I discovered the whole world of niche.
Happy Friyay!
It was a busy week and this weekend is also jampacked with activities!
SOTD!
Not sure which bottle is the oldest, but wearing one from my early days as a serious collector:Chanel Sycomore.I bought Sycomore and Coromandel on the same day,as I could not decide which one I liked best(Sycomore has been winning all these years! And I’ve always thought of them as twins.Lol!)It’s the original edt formulation from around 2009/2010!So yummy.
XO’s
Luuuuurve (thinking of you, Oakland Fresca) Sycomore. It’s in a league of its own.
Chanel knows how to do interesting iris variations,it’s hard to choose a favorite-favorite sometimes!
Happy Weekend J B!
Thanks lillyjo, hope your weekend is great as well!🤗🌹✌🏻
Lucky you, having the OG Sycomore!
I know that Aedes de Venustas Signature was a very early purchase because I’ve already been through one bottle of it. I loved the stunning rhubarb and tomato leaf combo then and I still love it now❤️
I treasure my bottle of Iris Nazarena!Loced the originals from Aedes!
One of their best! I was crazed early on to find a bottle of Iris Nazarena. It’s definitely the stuff of iris lore😊
I still have that bottle! Loved it then, love what is left now!
The new bottle just doesn’t compare. I got a BUB when I heard it was going to be discontinued. It was right before the pandemic in the period when they stopped selling the old bottles and before the new ones were released.
Years ago at the AdV shop in NYC, the owner told me that his partner found a vintage cigarette lighter at a Paris flea market and they designed the sprayer to match it.
You smell fantastic!
Thank you!😊
AdV Signature is a remarkable, one-of-a-kind scent. I can’t think of anything else that smells like it.
I totally agree. It has stood the test of time. I can’t say that about many of the perfumes I purchased early on, the ones that turned out to be quickly redundant. AdV is in a league of its own.
CP compliant in the sadly obscure and long-discontinued L’Artisan Eau des Merveilleuses, a lovely dry mango vanilla in a beautiful slope shouldered finely faceted bottle with a round top (special edition?). It was a stretch beyond my budget when I purchased it in a shoe store of all places in 1998. I’ve been hoarding the last half inch of juice for years and only wear it occasionally.
Went CP adjacent the rest of this week with L’Artisan The pour un Été in the original vintage bottle, just not *my* first bottle. I first purchased this frag ca. 1994 in the the boutique on Madison Avenue and have blasted through numerous bottles over the years. Down to the last few spritzes of the current bottle and probably won’t search out a replacement.
I’m trying to picture the fancy shoe store in which there were elegant bottle of L’Artisan. It’s a delightful image. I haven’t smelled or even heard of that one before. Several from that line were among my earliest purchases.
It’s a true rarity. (And pretty sure I was sublimating when I bought it because the shoes at that store would have been completely out of my reach.)
Thé pour un Été is one of my favorite L’Artisans.
It was one of my very early purchases too, but that bottle is drained and replaced.
Hey hey! Long time, no talk (or type as it were). I think about you all a lot, almost every day when spraying. I wear something every day still and still am a perfume gal. Life just stays busy.
I am in Alahine today, which has nothing to do with the sotd. 🙂 It’s just because!
LOVE Alahine!
I was just thinking of you the other day! 👋
Hiiii!
Good to see/read you! Hope that life has been treating you well.
All is well! Still in Colorado and enjoying it!
Small world! I moved to Colorado back in January!
Ahhhh!!! Do you like
It?
I do, very much! It’s been kind of a homecoming for me, since I was born in Colorado. Got quite a few relatives here as well.
Hi Kelly! Nice to see you here!
Back in the day, centuries ago, when I was a teen and first started wearing fragrance, I wore Chantilly, Heaven Sent, and Miss Dior. Although I have vintages of each of these and still wear them, only the Miss Dior is one I purchased new and is my SOTD. I wouldn’t have known what ‘galbanum’ or ‘oakmoss’ was had you asked me then, only that I loved this scent and quickly used up my original bottle, the familiar houndstooth one. The one I subsequently purchased and still have, is a tall columnar splash edt; the glass is swirled and there are what appear to be glass ‘saddlebags’ on either side. I no longer have the box and can’t find any batch codes for it; I’m guessing it may be from the 80’s.? The only reference I could find to this bottle is in a 2017 Basenotes post with a photo (https://basenotes.com/community/attachments/img_2605-jpg.69852/) but no one seems to have any info on it.
We’ve been enjoying beautiful summery weather this week with ☀️and temps in the 80’s (but with very low humidity) and I’m lovin’ it! Will be spending much of the weekend in 2 cemeteries, but for happy and positive visits, not sad ones. Tomorrow we’ll be tour guides for our town’s annual historical society tour of our local cemetery – the HS kids dress up as prominent citizens from the past and visitors learn the history of our community through them. On Sunday, I’m meeting cousins at the cemetery where my maternal ancestors have long been buried; we all pitched in to restore their tombstone for future generations and are celebrating its completion with lunch afterwards.
Wishing everyone a great weekend ahead!
That sounds like a wonderful weekend.
And since we’re going to be outside much of the time I’m so glad the weather forecast is on our side.☀️
I read about your weekends chock-a-block full of activities and wish I had your energy!
It seems like we’ve been doing a lot more running around this summer and it does get tiring – and my house and garden (and my cooking) – have suffered somewhat. But soon the weather will have us tucked inside and life will slow down.
I remember Heaven Sent! I wonder what happened to the bottle I had in junior high?
I have several vintage bottles I got for cheap at garage sales a few years ago. Even got an unopened vintage mini for just $1.00! They all still smell great.
Miss Dior is such a gorgeous fragrance. IMHO it has no peer🥇
Agreed!
For the CP: Shalimar Eau de Cologne, a 2011 bottle I probably bought at a CVS Pharmacy. Back then I was remembering the bottle of ’90’s edt that I’d used up, and I thought edc was only a weaker, less expensive concentration of a scent. When I noticed a difference, I attributed it to those dreaded reformulations I’d recently learned about. Nowadays, I am always on Team Shalimar, happy to wear all versions, all ages, that I have tried. My 50ml bottle only has about 4ml left!
Still my favorite Shalimar version of all time! You smell just perfect!
Count me in as another fan of the Shalimar edc from that era. Unlike many of you here, I’m not fond of the other Shalimar I’ve tried but for some reason the EDC smells really good and is the only one I wear.
You smell wonderful! Love Shalimar in every iteration but edc is my favorite.
Mon Precieux Nectar, a candidate for my desert island bottle.
Regret not buying this when it was easily available!
Guerlain used to have these feather-testerstrips,I still have one smelling of your SOTD from somewhere in the mid 2010-s!
Fresh strawberries.
My oldest bought new bottle is Romeo Di Romeo Gigli purchased in 1992-3 in NYC, off Union Square there was a street lined with discount perfumeries, wonder if they still exist. Romeo is a green, herbal floral and I loved it immediately. It has a pronounced marigold note tempered by sweet, sparkly fruity notes and is very long lasting. I love it so much that I have a bub identical in look and scent.
Tonight I’m in bpal Mictecacihuat, glad I don’t have to pronounce it, it’s a fairly sweet copal incense.
Sounds like you were in NYC a few years before I ended up in New Jersey.
I was in Manhattan from early 1986 to late 1997. We could have met.
I ended up in NJ in late spring of 1995. So yes, our paths could have crossed.
Gosh, I have a miniature bottle of that Romeo Di Romeo Gigli somewhere…. maybe at my parents place. It’s such a whimsical bottle, I love it!
I bet your mini is still good, mine are still true to the scent.
I am a fan of the Romeo di Romeo Gigli bottle, almost blind bought it back in the day. Marigold is such a rare note.
Isn’t it? With that lovely bitter green effect.
I’m heading off this morning to visit my mother for a few days, then she’s coming to visit me. I’m looking forward to that and also having nearly a week off work.
I wore Kingdom last night, as my oldest new bottle purchase, so I was slightly ahead of the CP.
Today is about convenience, so I’ll wear something I have in a travel spray, probably SL’s Rousse.
Enjoy your time off and visits with your mom!
Enjoy mom + a week of freedom!
Safe travels!
My oldest bought bottle is KL. It only has about 1ml remaining and has long been put away for safe keeping. It is one of my only bottles that survived my stupid perfume purge of 2000. It’s so safe at the moment that I can’t remember where I put it. Lol.
I decided to wear a mini of the original Marc Jacob’s from I believe 2008. I hoard this one too. It’s a beautiful white floral.
I’m heading into work, wish me luck!
Good luck with your shift!🤗🤗
Wishing you luck🤞! I have an old bottle of KL and keep it safe, too; I only wear it on Thanksgiving because I love how it’s spices blend seamlessly with the foods of that day!
Good luck with your shift and hope it passes quickly and smoothly.
🍀 You smell lovely, I have a little 30ml of KL.
Hope your shift goes/went well tonight!
Hope you have a good shift with 0 customer shenanigans😊
I love the phrase “my stupid perfume purge of 2000”!
Hope work went well!
The oldest bottle bought that I bought new is either Burberry Brit or Lacoste Pour Femme. I wore the Lacoste yesterday so I’m in Brit today and I smell like a delicious almond cake with little drizzle of pear juice. I love this CP because I so rarerly wear either of these anymore and I really do love them. I have no idea where I bought them, but it would have been around 2005. Before that I wore Sinan and Angel, but my pre-2005 bottle of those are long drained.
Tea today and yesterday was chai. Somewhere along the way, the Starbucks PSLs became too sweet for me, but the *idea* of having one was calling me with the cooler temps this week, so the chai is scratching that itch.
I still have a bottle of Burberry Brit EdT in my Full Bottle Stash. Loved the sugared almond note in it.
I wish I had tried the Red flanker while it was out, but I wasn’t as deep down the rabbit hole then
LOL! Me neither!
Once a year or so, I also get the itch for a PSL. I’ve gotten it with just one or two pumps of syrup and that helps a lot with the sweetness!
Ooh, that’s a great idea!
As far as I can tell, my oldest bottle bought new that I still have is my travel spray of Chinatown. Still smells great, still a powerhouse
Chinatown is a genius perfume. You smell fantastic.
Great scent!
Hello everyone. Are we ready for the swapmeet??? I know I am!!!
I’m not really sure what the oldest bottle I’ve bought is, perhaps a 90s rebuy of Anais Anais or Fendi? but I’m going with vintage Chanel Cristalle in the EdP. A lot of people prefer the crisp EdT but for my money, the rich thick honeyed green and floral notes of the EdP, macerating for decades, have left this juice a deep ambery yellow. My bottle is from the 80s or 90s, too lazy to see exactly when the EdP came out. My mom wore this back in the day and I eventually bought my own bottle and then re-upped. Since it reminds me of her, I’ll hunt down another vintage bottle when this one runs out but it probably never will because I only reach for it when I’m feeling nostalgic.
Can’t go wrong with Chanel Cristalle, especially the original formulation (according to Fragrantica, the EdP was created in 1993).
I’m swapmeet ready and you smell wonderful!
I bought a bottle of Caron;s l’eau religeuse (?) 18 years ago. It started a trip down the rabbit hole. I have about 1/4 left. I has so many more I like much better that this one maybe gets worn 2-3 times a year. But the lady who sold it to me was cool about explaining things and let me test whenever i came by so I fell in love with perfume.
I don’t know that one! But that’s a great way to fall in love with perfume.
I think my oldest purchased bottle is JLS, the OG. I have purchased BuBs since then but I’m pretty sure that I have an original here, either EdT or EdP. I remember buying it long before MUA days, in the early 80’s. I can still recall the counter in our beloved, old Filene’s Basement.
I still love this one!
I hope all you lovely NSTers have a nice weekend!
Have a nice weekend AnnE!
I hope you have a nice weekend too!
First dose of Teflon’s medicine has been administered. She was not a fan, and tried to squirm away. Only 13 more doses left to go.
Wearing the oldest bottle of perfume that I bought new, way back in the late 1980’s. I was taking a gap between my freshman and sophomore years in college at the time, and working retail in a long-vanished department store in Denver.
SOTD = Ivoire de Balmain. I have half of a 50mL bottle left. Since it has a pressurized sprayer, one shot from it is plenty! I have been enjoying little wafts of it since.
Good luck with administering the kitty’s medicine and I hope she feels better!
And of course you smell lovely. 😊
Thank you! 😺
Oh, the fun of medicine + cats. Not! You smell great. And, yes, one spritz is all one needs of Ivoire to smell beautiful!😻
Yeah, I will be wearing long sleeves to medicate Teflon kitty.
I was a little sad to notice that my bottle was half full. OTOH it means that I have enjoyed half the contents, right?
👍
I hope Teflon kitty gets well soon. Ear infections are no fun!
Thank you tulipani! For human or companion animal, ear infections suck.
You smell divine and are such a good kitty mom🐈💕
Thanks allo!
Hopefully it gets easier with each dose?
Would be nice if that happened, but Teflon is super touchy about having meds in her ears. Not gonna bet on it.
Poor Teflon, she doesn’t know what she’s in for. Ah, Ivoire, beautiful.
If it makes Tef feel better, I think she may eventually put up with it. Hopefully it’s only a week.
If it makes Tef feel better, I think she may eventually put up with it. Hopefully it’s only a week.
Awww poor Teflon kitty and poor you, dosing her. I’d say it hopefully will get better but I know by my cantankerous old man Larry that kitties can be so stubborn. Hope she’s feeling better soon!
Thanks ringthing. As of this afternoon, it’s 4 doses of medicine done. Teflon kitty is looking a little melancholy right now.
Did you know that there is a “Larry the Cat” channel on YouTube? I almost died laughing when I saw it, and immediately thought of you.
Sending cat-doctoring sympathy as we are dealing with a hot spot, ointment, and the cone of shame.
Oy vey! We both have our hands full with our furry family members. 😱
Late to comment but today I’m wearing Coco EdP, purchased in 2000. I’m surprised it took me so long to discover it (it was launched in 1984).
I remember being on an Air France flight to Paris when one of the flight attendants passed by leaving a trace of this gorgeous scent. After several hours of getting repeated whiffs, I mustered the courage to ask her what she was wearing. I purchased a bottle from the duty free shop on my way back home.
Hope everyone has a nice weekend.
I’m also quite the Janie-come-lately to Coco EdP. Just got some earlier this year…
I hope you like it. I’ve not smelled any of the recent formulations. If you’re ever curious about the one from 2000, let me know and I can send you some.
Thanks for the offer! Might take you up on it later on this year.
I will have to wait a while before I open my bottle; I think the current weather is too warm for any version of Coco right now.
Me too and so glad when I finally discovered the wonder of Coco.
Happy Friday, everyone!
My choice for the CP today is RL Safari from the mid-90s, such a beautiful bottle. Safari is very likely the first bottle of perfume I bought myself, with earnings from a summer job in college. It’s been decades since I’ve worn it and I was honestly a little scared to try it today. But it’s held up nicely, phew!
Yay for your Safari holding up all these years!
You smell great, I keep forgetting my bottle of it, and it’s the right season for it.
TGIF! It was quite a work week. I have now tried all 3 versions of Hush Hush wrapping up w/ the Parfum today… the EDP is probably my personal favorite but I loved them all! The EDP may have the most discernible vanilla ehaeheh wink wink nudge nudge know what I mean? 😉
I just purchased the Hush Hush EdT unsniffed. If I don’t like it, it will be up for grabs. I decided to take my chances😃
Yay, I think you will love it! 😍 The notes are quite accurate.
PSA alert!
For lovers of LUSH’s Flying Fox shower gel, it’s back for a limited time! It’s kind of spendy and comes in only one size, but I jumped on it as soon as I found out about it. Jasmine lovers, assemble!
I’ve never smelled it. Is there a jasmine fragrance you would compare it to?
Sure! It’s very close to LUSH Lust.
Thank you thank you! And they’ve made Posh Chocolate into a gel, too.
Look for Flying Fox in the “Archives” section.
And the Posh Chocolate gel was tempting! But I’ve spent too much at LUSH lately…
I was part of the Flying Fox club today too. And was sorely tempted by Posh Chocolate but decided those two together would be spending too much on shower gel when I already have a bit of a backlog, other Lush gels included.
Hiya, Flying Fox twin!
And I noticed that it’s unavailable today! Thank goodness we acted quickly.
Oh dang! It disappeared quickly!
I’m wearing my oldest new bottle that I could figure out from emails, Comptoir Sud Pacifique Vanille Pitahaya, purchased from eBay for $1.25. Back in 2007 one could do such things. My email invoice didn’t indicate if it was a full bottle or not, but it definitely had a good amount in it when it bought it. I haven’t worn this in years and years and it reminds me of Guerlain Lui, lots of pear and vanilla.
I had a fun outing for a work lunch in the middle of the day. We had delicious lunch at a nice waterfront restaurant in Tacoma and Mount Rainier even came out for us after a little while. It was the last hurrah of a DEI group I’ve been part of the last almost two years. Someone from our group left to go work somewhere else, and I’ll sure miss him and this particular group of people getting together.
$1.25!!! Yeah, that ain’t happening in 2024.
Glad your group got in one last lunch, that’s lovely.
For the CP, I wore Vero’s Onda voile de parfum. It stayed with me all day, wafting back in even when I thought it had to be gone. A treasure. All her work is.
🙂
