It's Tuesday and National Pots de Creme Day. Birthdays today: Man Ray, Lester Young, Ira Levin, William Least Heat-Moon. What fragrance are you wearing?
I’m in Hermès Eau Claire des Merveilles. Tea the moment is Mariage Frères Chandernagor.
Reminder: on 8/30, for the start of Labor Day Weekend in the US, wear the fragrance you think you probably wore the most — or wish you'd worn the most — for summer 2024 (or if you're in the southern hemisphere, for winter 2024).
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2024, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: the Circle teapot from Editions Milano ("Alessandra Facchinetti's 'Circle' collection is Editions Milano's first foray into ceramics. It's been pulled off with aplomb, resulting in a series that combines five objects made for serving tea and coffee with Italian-made porcelain and rigorously conceptualized designs that encourage users to rethink how they interact with the key items that form daily routines") is $591 at Frank Bros in Italy.
Hello.
Sotd is F-ing Fabulous.
Marinating some chicken wings so I can grill them for dinner. Making them garlic-heavy but it’s not like I’ll be meeting anyone important so I will indulge.
Cheesecake has been chilling overnight so that’s dessert also taken care of. It’s New York style with a thick biscuit base.
All of that sounds delicious, and you smell great 🙂
Thank you. Everything was truly ‘fabulous’!
Yum!
😀
Dinner+dessert sounds EPIC over at yours!👌🏻👌🏻
Saved you a slice of cheesecake!
Assam of India, sprayed with abandon.
Thank you, everyone, for your kind replies yesterday. The situation with power remains unstable (emergency blackouts are announced), but the length of blackouts is so far manageable in the building I live. We’ll have to wait and see.
Glad to hear things things seem slightly better!
I’m only familiar with the Assam of India candle, which is very nice, so I’m sure you smell great.
There is a Berdoues Grand Cru Assam of India candle? How did I not know this?
Really! How did we not know this?
Assam of India should ALWAYS be sprayed with reckless abandon! I say my usual 32 sprays 😂. You smell great!
It’s just reassuring to me whenever you post here,to know that somehow you are “ok”!
XO’s🌹🌹
Pleased to hear that you have had some electricity today.
And yes, it’s a relief to see you posting when you can. Hugs to you, your Mom, and sweet Kora kitty.
Fat lot of good it does, I know, but we are all thinking of you and rooting for you.
Really glad you’ve had at least some power today.
It actually helps a lot and helps me stay calm.
I’m so glad Glannys.
I’m in Hemres Apres La Mousson, which I love. The melon note doesn’t bother me at all, and there’s a hefty dose of cardamom. Even the dreaded aquatic note doesn’t bother me-probably cause not many people wear fragrance here. I was never over exposed, like a lot of people have been by these notes. Really wish I was smelling more perfumes in the wild.
You smell lovely, an unsung gem, my bottle lives in Provence where I wear it, it blooms in the dry heat.
I’m with you and Aurora on loving Mousson. I find it so refreshing and delightful in summer.
I’m wearing “Hommage à l’Homme” from Lalique. I’ve owned it for several years, and I remember liking it when I first tried it. But suddenly I absolutely love it – not sure how or why, but I guess timing is everything.😊
Glad you came back to it and now love it.
Unexpected reward from the scent gods!
Also always possible that it is has changed for the better!
I’m wearing Escentric 01, for the pepper note. This is a new decant, but I’ve worn pepper a lot this summer.
Ah, I can’t even figure out what fragrance I’ve worn most this summer, wonder if I could figure out what notes I’ve worn the most?
Love everything about the photo above (except for the price)!
It is CHILLY this morning! 55F in my camper when I woke. I dug out a flannel to put over my summer shirt, which makes me very happy! Can’t remember the last time I had a flannel shirt on. 😊 It will warm up considerably today, I’m sure, but I’ll take cool air any time I can get it.
Wearing the lovely Korres saffron, amber and cardamom from a swapper. It doesn’t look like that make this anymore but I like it a lot more than I liked the LUSH cardamom coffee (I think that’s the name??). Anyway, thanks to the lovely swapper because I’m enjoying it immensely!
In the office with just my child today so I’m anticipating a lovely, quiet day without anyone yammering in my ear. Things have slowed WAY down during the week but weekends are still bustling. With the upcoming holiday weekend I’m expecting a sellout- lots of noise, off lead dogs, kids screaming, people arguing, disasters and biohazards left in the bathrooms and showers, all sprinkled with belligerent drunk people…sounds like heaven, right? 😂
Happy Tuesday!
That sounds awful. But the 55 degree morning sounds great! I’m ready for those mornings.
I live for cool weather and morning coffee.☕️
Yikes, sounds hellish! But just think of all the peace you’ll have after this weekend!
It’s like a sitcom, for realz. Think Married with Children: The Dark Side.
How high up are you, altitude-wise?
I think where I’m at it’s about 6200 ft, give or take.
You’ve got at least 1000 feet on my elevation, then. Enough to make a difference at times.
Maybe slightly better than all of those things inside a hospital ward?
Absolutely! None of the responsibility, but also none of the pay. 😁
I’m in Chanel Paris Deauville, a decision I regretted almost immediately. Even this is too much in today’s heat. Biarritz would have been better but I thunked that last summer. The humidity is overbearing yesterday and today. Just soupy feeling when I step out the front door. 🥵These scents don’t usually last long which will work in my favor today.
I think you got more heat and humidity than I did. It was still gross out earlier though.
Today was slightly better than yesterday but yes, the humidity, just gross!
I know what Deauville smells like. Do you know if it smells anything like Assam of India?
Not at all, to my nose. I went through a bottle of Assam and that one is more citrus and more refreshing imo. Deauville was just a tad too sweet for this heat and humidity.
Thanks. I was just curious. Some of the notes sounded kind of the same.
Wearing no 5 edp today. About to make a PB&J sandwich for lunch. I am not exactly thrilled about going to work today for some reason.
I shared your sentiments re: work today!
Hopefully, your day wasn’t too bad.
Commando at the moment for an eye appointment this morning. When I get home I’ll spray Au Delà Narcisse with abandon. If I had discovered this one sooner it would have been the scent I wore most over the summer. It is marvelous in the heat, but I’m also looking forward to experiencing it in colder weather — I think it was Jalapeño who said “just wait ‘til winter!” After last winter’s brutal cold I can definitely wait, but fall here is shaping up to be Classic Oregon Autumn with sunshine and crisp temperatures. I hope I didn’t just jinx it. 🤞
Yes, that was me. But I hope you have a nice long wait for any arctic weather this winter!
Not venturing out today so can go makeup free and fragrance heavy.
Might go with Sugar Leather.
The only makeup I wear is mascara, but it is comical how relaxing it feels to not put it on if I’m staying in all day 🙂
I’m wearing Chanel pour Monsieur which is elegance in a bottle, which is a good thing, as I am many things, but elegant is not one of them.
Such a classic. You smell great!
SOTD is Delta of Venus. Reading the purgatory poll this weekend made me think of all the samples I need to give a 2nd or 3rd chance.
🙂
St Clair Scent First Cut stolen from hubby’s new bottle. This would be not only all summer long but all year long
Its a beauty, for sure.
It’s so complex and remarkable long lasting. I could see this as my signature
Have the mini Marzipans gotten a whiff of First Cut?
For my birthday, my brother passed on one of his cameras… a really nifty Olympus Pen-F digital …which is small enough to carry around without being a hassle . It has the look of an old film camera and I’ve been having a blast taking photos and learning the functions. When I was younger I was quite self conscious about stopping to take photos in town but now I’m older I don’t care ( not that I take photos of people ). I was kneeling down on the pavement yesterday to get a shot and perfectly happy as people wandered by. Maybe I’m invisible? I’ve been testing Abel Laundry Day, which has a fresh lime/ passion fruit note, but not great sillage or longevity.
Good for you, with your uninhibited photo-taking! That sounds fun to me!
I love the look of those Olympus Pens (and I hear they take great photos) – I’ve been thinking of saving up for one myself to play with photography again like I used to.
Very cool b-day gift from your brother! 📸
I am wearing a combination of Chanel Comete, along with a few sprays of Chanel Eau de Cologne.
Did you get a FB of Comete?
Yes 🙂
Frozen mango smoothie
Jour d’Hermès parfum today from my new bottle, it has a very juicy and projecting citrus note which I enjoyed immensely and tonight it’s bpal the treasury oil, a toasty honey with orris, white sandalwood, golden amber and red musk, whatever that is. Confession I bought several additional bpal little bottles this past month, they’re oil and take no space so not noticed by Donatella.
Donatella ALWAYS knows what you bought though … 🤣
😃 She’s omniscient.
Donatella might not care what perfume oils you picked up, but I would like to hear details… 😎
I also bought Sugar Skull 2015 edition, a blend of five sugars lightly dusted with candied fruits, you wouldn’t know by the description but it’s very complex, I really like it, Bronze Dildo (I know, terrible name), 2022, metallic bronze musk, 6-year old aged patchouli and russet amber, dark oakmoss, green cardamom and tonka, very deep green amber scent, I love it, and Trick or Treat, only note listed, candy corn, but I also get butterscotch, and spices. They’re all be perfect for Halloween.
Ooooooof. Yeah, that one perfume name is very cringe. It’s a shame, since your description sounds like it’s worth a sniff.
Apropos of absolutely nothing, I’m wearing Phi today. Of the samples that I have here, it was the one that stood out to me today.
In celebration of my trip to Spain, I ordered a small bottle of Iris Doux from Puente. (When I looked a while back it didn’t seem he sold in stores in Spain, so I didn’t look when we were there, just ordered direct.) It’ll be nice to have something else in my tiny library here.
Sadly, I’d said I’d check in on the new Yves Rocher fragrances a few weeks back, but I didn’t realize that they’d closed all their German stores so if I didn’t try them in Spain it wasn’t going to happen. So, no Yves Rocher for me.
But, it looks like there’s a good perfume store here in our little city in Germany, so I’ll have to explore more when I have time. Still settling in here, with Ockeghem Teen just starting school and not understanding most of it, and me working from 2:30 – 11 p.m. It’s nice to have the mornings to go to the veggie market downtown, though.
Safe travels! I’ve been enjoying your IG photos 😊
Nice to hear an update from you!
Ooh! I’m headed to Spain in two weeks! My first time. A few days in Seville, a few days in Cadiz, and a week in Jerez.
I have my on a cute little perfume shop in Seville.
Frederick Malle Iris Poudre today. It’s from a 10ml dabber bottle, and I tried to do a couple dabs but got a little river instead. I smell great.
The neighbor hired a landscaping team to cut back a ton of foliage in their yard. The team is very noisy – lots of electrical tools going. I would never complain though, since they are cutting back a bunch of trees and bushes that block our view. It’s been fun peeking out the window every now and then and seeing what’s been revealed!
nebbe – are you in Seattle? If so, what neighborhood? I’m in Ballard.
One of my favorite scents. I will be getting it out soon!
Iris always smells great! Is there an Iris I dislike? I really don’t think there is
I can’t believe it’s nearly the end of August already!! I’m wearing a recent purchase, L’Astre from Le Galion.
I join you in disbelief!!!
I came back from vacation yesterday and this morning when I got up the light from the window was definitely autumnal; slanted and yellow compared to summer light. The plants are showing signs of fall, too. My plant that I don’t know the name of has already turned red. Today I thunked my decant of TF Fleur de Chine. It took nine sprays but it’s gone. I liked it but didn’t love it so I don’t need more, even if I could get it.
I hope you had a nice vacation!
Light definitely changing…I am not having to draw my shades to protect my plants indoors anymore.
It’s very hot and muggy, just like the end of August. The local weather people were talking about how much water evaporates from corn fields in high heat, it’s a lot and of course corn is grown everywhere around here. Sometimes I think too much weather info just makes me feel hotter, or colder as the case may be.
I’m wearing a spritz of Un Jardin Sur le Nil, a favorite summer perfume.
I’d love to send you a shot of dry air. I have plenty to share!
Too much weather info makes me anxious.
Trying out LVEB L’Elixir today. Lots of raspberry, violet and leather but kind of a cleaned up leather to my nose (in the vein of cleaned up patchouli)…a like but not a love. Don’t see that it has anything to do w/ original LVEB and could have released as an entirely new perfume instead of doing a flanker but that could be said for many flankers nowadays. I am feeling semi-perfume jaded today. ☺️ Last weekend I sniffed a few new fragrances at the mall and was meh on almost all of them and actively disliked the new Goddess Intense flanker.
In defiance of the meh, I ordered samples of the 3 new gourmands from PdN and samples and a trio of the Hush Hush variations from 4160 Tuesdays this week. Not entirely jaded after all it would seem 😇 hope springs eternal!
The new Goddess is my most disliked new release of the year.
This made me laugh! “Lillyjo’s 10 Most Hated Perfumes of 2024!”
Lol! It is awful!
😍 Yes, I really didn’t like it. Not sure what the offending note is but no me gusto.
Yesterday I was feeling very bored and out of sorts and I decided to go out for a nice lunch and while I was at it visit the nearby branch of Le Labo. (This is the one in Montrose in Houston.) I’ve been eager to try the newest City Inclusive, Coriandre 39, and to revisit both Myrrhe 55 and Poivre 23 from the series. I did good test sprays on parts of my hands and arms and talked about them with the SA’s there. I wanted to buy the small samples of each (not cheap at $13/apiece) but they were already out of the Poivre so I just got the other two. Coriandre is not at all my thing. I was shocked by how very green and juicy it was at first. It reminded me a lot of Zoologist Elephant! The drydown, which was pretty fast (half an hour or less) was much nicer but still not my thing, a little blah to be honest. I didn’t think the lasting power was that great either, though the one SA said it really lasts on him. Poivre is a real powerhouse and is easy to love, and the one I’m more drawn to. It’s a really big hit of pepper with some incense and vanilla. It lasted well overnight too. Myrrhe is the big question mark of this group: it’s such a shape shifter. Wow. It goes on very very sweet with a lot of florals (jasmine) and then modulates after an hour or so into something that to me almost has a “bread-y” quality. I cannot figure out what it might be according to the notes. They list musks and ambergris. It’s toasty and also has a paper bag smell. I don’t think this is what myrrh smells like either. Combined with some remainders of jasmine, it’s incredibly beautiful. The weird thing is, it has patchouli and many people comment on how strong that note is. That would be fine with me but I can’t smell that at all! If you read the reviews on Fragrantica they are all over the map. People complain about it being too strong or too weak, too much patchouli, too artificial and chemical vs. being wonderfully high quality ingredients, original vs. a copy of xyzzy, and on and on. In case you can’t tell I am probably leaning toward buying this one!
Thanks for sharing your visit with us!!
Sounds like you and hajusuuri both really like the Myrrhe 55.
Appreciated the details of your analysis!
Ditto, thanks Calypso!
Official sotd was Endymion(thunked the sample finally)
This evening while attempting to sort out two perfume-stacked shelves I sprayed some random lovelies,my nose is still searching for something-something that I cannot seem to really find;either a great carnation or my current milky/lactonic obsession.
During this quest I fell even harder in love with Margiela Whispers in the library, sprayed some The different co. Pure Eve(ahhh yess!)Dior Hypnotic Poison,Atelier Cologne Vanille ensenseè and a bunch of other stuff!Always a fun time exploring what I have already….
Question is:when(if ever) is enough gonna be enough!!??
Lol!
XO’s
Ooo! I love Pure eVe and Vanille Insensee!
Never enough! Lol.

And here’s a song match!
🤘
( Jalapeno, and MTG can you guess without clicking?)
I knew it!!
I figured you would!
Checking in from a grumpy work day. I am wearing Chance eau Vive.
We have a heat warning today but honestly it doesn’t feel as hot as they said it would.
Sorry you’re having a rough work day but you sure do smell great!!!!
Thanks cm8! It’s a favorite.
Here’s hoping the mood improves!
I’m feeling better now that I am home. Work has just been stressful since we got the new district manager.
Oh good. We can be grumpy twins.
Which reminds me of how much I hated it when my parents would call me Grumpy after the dwarf. We had some kind of plaque display of Snow White and all the dwarves on our bedroom wall as kids.
Ha! I always liked Grumpy and Doc.
Heat warnings make grumpy a lot easier to come by.
Yeah it kicked up quite the storm earlier. Tomorrow should be cooler.
I had a very nice stretch of perfect late summer temps here over the weekend. Sounds like it is headed your way.
Now I’m testing St Clair’s Scent newest release Blue Marble. Why do I like it? Because it reminds me of the long discontinued Aramis New West for Women which I wore in the early 90s.
You smell nice!
You must smell amazing then!
New West! That’s a blast from the past.
I’m wearing Amouage Lyric Woman today (it’s still a cool day, warms up later this week) and because March mentioned it on Perfume Posse today. I do love this one. So complex and rich. I love how it changes subtly as the drydown progresses.
But definitely doesn’t work for the cp. as I generally prefer to wear it in cooler weather.
I’ve heard so much about Lyric but don’t think I’ve ever smelled it. I’m sure you smell wonderful!
Have you ever tried Lyric Man? It’s a softer version of Lyric Woman to my nose.
SOTD = And Fragrance Frank
Love, what else can I say 🤷🏻♀️? I did not wear this often but whenever I wear it, it is 💗 even more than the last time I wore it!

This past Saturday, we had a cousins get together at a cousin’s place. I remember a time when such gatherings had 25+ people but these days, with vacation and also a bunch having dropped off the face of the earth (hopefully to a better everlasting place), there were < 20. Anyway, a good time was had by all!
Glad to hear you had a good time at your get together this weekend!
A lot of my cousins are gone, too.
I still have plenty of cousins but since the aunt’s and uncles are gone, we never see each other. It’s great you still get together.
Love the looks of that bottle.
sotd = Hiris + eau de fleurs de cedar
It’s weird but I like this combo.
I feel an iris moment coming on.
Maybe because autumn is approaching?
Hope everyone is having a lovely day. 😊
**cedar** not cedar 😅
CEDRAT!!! 😂😂😂
🤣 I got confused by the first clarification.
I think you’re right about autumn and iris!
Gorgeous deep blue skies here today, and not a cloud in the sky. I did see a bit of haze by the mountains, though, which means summer air pollution.
SOTD = still commando today, but wearing scented lotion in the usual spots.
Are you still keeping perfume away from skin?
Yep. But things have improved a lot by doing so. Guess that means I will put up with the inconvenience.
Hope your skin condition is improving.
It is, but slowly. Much slower than I would like, alas.
Big cool down today here; there’s even been snow reported on the mountain highways. I think it’s short-lived though as it’s apparently climbing back up to summer temps by the weekend.
Wearing Lush Tender is the Night lotion today, part of the Kitchen monthly box. Trying to use some of these things as the lotions and shower gels multiplied. I’ve still got my subscription on hold; will probably get the November and December boxes. At least you can now preview the monthly offering to see if you want it, which is a nice bonus.
I heard something about snow in California this morning…
That seems very wrong for some reason!
If snow fell in high elevation mountains, it makes perfect sense to me.
But I have heard about record low temps on the West Coast recently.
SOTD is Dame Cassis, Rose & Sandalwood. I still like it, but the rose is overwhelming me today. Maybe it’s just because I know it is discontinued so I won’t be getting another bottle. That’s fine. I still have at least 75% of it left.
100mL of anything is a lifetime supply for me at this point…. Even 50mLs is plenty.
SOTD was Ineke Gilded Lily, since I enjoyed my little spritz of it yesterday.
Tired after a long day. No more words to share! But enjoyed everyone’s posts.
Getting caught up on the weekend poll:
1. What’s the latest fragrance you tried, and weren’t sure about but weren’t ready to give up on just yet?
– HG Tryst. Still searching for the perfect Orange Blossom
2. Name a fragrance you now love, but that initially spent quite some time in your purgatory basket.
– Dune. I don’t know what I was thinking at first, that I couldn’t connect with it. It’s one of my favorites now.
3. Name a fragrance you gave up on, but that you keep thinking about and wondering if you should get another sample.
– Seville à L’Aube – There’s something compelling but also not me about it.
And then I read this review from Kafkaesque:
“There are perfumes that one should theoretically love but which, in reality, one simply cannot bear. Seville à L’Aube is one of those fragrances for me.”
I’ve been wearing various summer fragrances but Antonia’s Flowers Sogni del Mare has captured my fragrant attention for the last several weeks.
