Rabbit, rabbit, rabbit! Welcome to August, aka Peach Month and National Sandwich Month. Birthdays today: Herman Melville, Yves Saint Laurent, Jerry Garcia. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm taking silly name points for Diesel Loverdose Tattoo.
Reminder: 8/2 will be Silly Friday...wear a silly perfume, or a perfume with a silly name, or a perfume that comes in a silly bottle, or ? (Raise your hand if you are the person who suggested this!)
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2024, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: top image is a promotional box of Trix cereal from the 2015 #RealTrixRabbit contest.
I’m in Terre d’Hermès Eau Très Fraîche.
Does the “Très” (Very) in “Eau Très Fraîche” (Very Fresh Water) tip it into silly territory? Maybe a little.
There is a new Hermès feminine fragrance by Christine Nagel being launched: Barénia, named after their famed leather.
I’m wearing Des Clous Pour Une Pelure, which is silly because it is obviously a fall/winter fragrance (orange, cloves, nutmeg), rather than the hottest month in Texas fragrance.
I love your sotd, you smell so good but my bottle leaked this winter.
I didn’t remember my rabbits until I was up and opened my email to see it was August 1.
I know lillyjo will remember this one:
https://youtu.be/qXa0ukxnKhU?si=sBscoapeavsyONz2
I’m in Beauty Pie’s La Botanista 002 which is giving me a 1970s herbal essence vibe.
I remember it too. Im dating myself
I’m dating myself by posting it.🤣
Ha! Of course I remember!
( funny how I can barely remember yesterday though. Lol)
I’ve said before that I can’t remember where I put my keys etc but I can effortlessly sing the Gilligan’s Island and Beverly Hillbillies theme songs and recall all kinds of 70s commercials. Stupid brain.
I’m going with Yuzu Fou today – one of my favorites from Parfum D’Empire.
Not a silly name, but it’s fun to say.
Oh, but “fou” can mean crazy, and that’s silly-adjacent. At least half a point. 🙂
Great name and wonderful fragrance!
Wearing Vetiver Tonka currently, but will switch it up after a shower later.
Back in Shalimar Body Creme…it’s just about gone, maybe one or two very stingy applications left…😭
Another 🥵 sunny day
Has anyone sniffed any perfumes from a perfumery called Jorum Studio, it’s a perfume house from
Scotland 🏴?
SOTD WSS by Jo Malone
I have but I can’t remember which ones.
Maybe they didn’t leave an impression then?
I tried the original ones. I don’t remember disliking them but there’s so much out there these days it’s hard for anything to leave an impression
Also has anyone read The Makioka Sister, I was thinking of starting and it’s a big read, so wanted to ask first
The Makioka Sisters is terrific, one of my favorite modern novels. I say yes. (I am in general a big Tanizaki, in translation, fan.)
Ok- ✅
I will dive in!
I’ve sampled several from Jorum, and I bought a bottle of Atheneum. This one might be up your alley! 😉 The description at the end is spot-on for me. Love it.
They have an idiosyncratic style and will not be to everyone’s taste, but if you want to go off the beaten path, go here.

How is the sillage?
I love love the notes!!
I would say the sillage is moderate. hth!
Yes, I think several people have tried their scents. A big hit with some has been Trimerous. I think it was probably the musk, but not sure, that turned on me.
I love them! They are weird but feel really grounded in nature. Medullary-Ray is my personal favorite.
I’m a Trimerous fan!
Hello.
Sotd is Vetiver Tonka. Received a compliment today, so a perfume win!
Went to see the huge resting Buddha in Wat Pho (pronounced Po not Fuh like the Vietnamese noodle) The Buddha was majestic. There were murals everywhere. I wish I could understand what stories they told. Entranced would be a fitting description of what I felt.
Oh, and, rabbit rabbit rabbit!
What a wonderful trip you’re having!
Assam of India. No points. I’m too lazy to search for something silly. Does whimsical count? Then half points for elephants 🐘
I was wondering that myself yesterday as I perused my perfume cabinet. I think yes. In my view, silly and whimsical are very closely related.
👍🐘😺
I’m unsilly this morning in Le Dix edt and dusting powder. Our temperature will soar to triple digits today and I am Not Happy about it. I also overslept and forgot my rabbits. Grrr. 🤪
I’m in the not silly but strangely named Space by Cathy Carden. A classic 90’s peachy oriental, and not a thing to do with space.
I’m twinning with chocolatemarzipan in Assam of India. Not even to the 2nd elephant row, I should wear this more often. It’s good on a hot day.
Hi twin! My first bottle is down to the last row because I wore it for eight weeks straight many summers ago. Someone here was kind enough to gift me her full bottle so now I can wear it again!! I agree it’s great for the heat but I love it in cool weather too. The sandalwood pops on my skin
I went with vintage Metal edt. Yet again.
Come closer so I can smell you!!!
Yes, me too !!
Wafting to the best of my abilities!
And why not? 🤗
I’m in the groove :- )
😎
Completely forgot the rabbits. Got a sick dog right now. Yesterday night, Sydney started throwing up and wouldn’t eat her breakfast yesterday morning. Took her to the vet and found out she has 1 kidney and a kidney infection. So it’s antibiotics, bland diet, fluids and keeping her quiet for the next few weeks. In Chanel no 5 body products. Part of the reason is no 5 is comforting but it’s kind of silly because Chanel prices has gotten silly.
Good luck to poor little Sydney! I hope she picks up very soon.
Best health wishes to Sydney!
Hope she gets well soon.
Poor Sydney! Sending pets her way.
Poor pup and poor you – wishing her a quick recovery.
Nothing silly today – just Marc Jacobs Daisy.
Totally forgot the rabbits too.
Points for the bottle, which I think is whimsical but some might call silly 🤷♀️
Never thought of that. He had some other bottles that some may have thought were silly. I think Lola and Dot? Something like that.
No silliness from me, I’m wearing Shalimar while I catch up on laundry etc. Days where I’m a domestic goddess are Shalimar days, with hajusuuri level sprays.
TCM has started it’s usual August feature “Summer Under the Stars”, featuring movies from a different star every day. Today it’s William Powell and I could happily watch his movies all day, if I could.
Love the “hajusuuri-level” sprays! I had been thinking of upping that because I am in the land of too plenty.
I do a lot of your number of sprays too and call them that. You have a following 😊
Definitely up it! Try my level one day and report back
I love your domestic goddess days, what a great idea! Love William Powell, too. Which movie?
A bunch of them, all day. I just sat down and watched The Thin Man start to finish. I’ve seen it many times but I never get tired of the on screen chemistry of Nick and Nora Charles.
Oh, I see, I misunderstood. William Powell and Myrna Loy were a screen couple legend. I wouldn’t mind a marathon of their movies!
He was very suave!
I’m not silly today wearing my beloved MDCI La Ravissante. The piquant pomegranate note feels nice in the summer, like a cold red drink out on the patio. I just came back from a week up in Michigan where I was quite busy: visiting my aunt, who has recently been diagnosed with vascular dementia (how sad); my sister-in-law, who’s still of course dealing with my brother’s death and the subsequent paperwork and financial issues (more sadness); and my high school class reunion–an unexpectedly fun and happy event because ALL of my old high school friends were there (except one who had been ill and died last year). The weather was gorgeous and I got my fill of fish, eating it for four different meals–yummy walleye and lake perch.
On the plane coming home I watched a very beautiful movie, Perfect Days, directed by Wim Wenders. I can’t recommend it enough and only wish I could see it on a big screen. It’s about an older man in Tokyo; he has a mysterious past and has chosen to spend his life in a kind of Zen mindset of having the exact same routine every day and doing the best he can do in his job as a public toilet cleaner. It’s slow but interesting, happy and sad, and quite beautiful.
Yay for successful school reunion.
I loved Perfect Days too. I know you quite like Asian crime series (TV) and I watched one last week called Tokyo Swindlers you might enjoy. It’s about a criminal group who pose as the legal owners of blocks of land in Tokyo and then “ sell” the land for millions, or billions of yen to developers. There is also a team of fraud unit cops investigating. It is interesting as you don’t quite know the motives of some of the gang members, who is good and who is evil. The later episodes are quite violent but not OLdboy level violence. I think it was in Netflix

Thanks!
I’m off today and at the mall with my daughter. I am re-testing Gabrielle L’eau. In a silly move, I also sprayed the Burberry Goddess Intense. Lavender + major ambroxan. I can’t wait to scrub it off. ( in my defense, I watched a glowing review on it and thought I was safe to spray on skin).
Do you still like the Gabrielle flanker? You may be a goner 🤣.
I will try it again on clean skin. Maybe next week.
Ooh, I stopped by Macy’s today and got a made up sample of Gabrielle L’Eau. I will try it next time. It smelled good on paper!
Report back!
I hate Ambroxan. It almost makes me gag.
It must be some people can’t smell it, or can smell other notes through it?
I already was unimpressed with Goddess, so dull and now dull + ambroxan intense makes me shudder.
This has to be the worst smelling perfume I have tried all year.
Another insanely hot and humid day here. I’m wearing a sample of Mizensir Sweet Praline.
Hot and humid here today too! I cannot stand it…
🐇 🐇🐇 I said it 4 times and can give away 3 of them!
SOTD = L’Artisan Parfumeur Safran Troublant
I’m still trying to thunk this beauty and still have a ways to go! 🧡

In other news, I’m pretty sure I’ve been to all these museums. If you have not or wish to go again, these are what is inspiring museum guards:

Good. I need a set of rabbits.
Me too! Hajusuuri is my monthly dealer of rabbits because I never remember. 😎
LOL at dealer of rabbits! 🤣
Perfect!
L’eau Ambre Extreme. Just adding the word “ extreme” on a perfume makes me laugh as it always puts me in mind of commercials for budget cleaning products…window clean extreme!! That kind of thing. Perfume extreme! 10x more powerful! I like a Jean Claude Ellena scent having that tacky association in my head, it seems subversive . I was in the botanic gardens yesterday and saw gentians and crocuses , some of the latter were a startling white which added brightness to the otherwise gravel-grey alpine garden. It was cold so I met my friend inside the glasshouse where it was around 20C compared to the 5C outside.
I love going to the botanical gardens in winter, it’s like a mini tropical vacation.
SotD earlier was Harvest Mouse for the CP. Not a silly name per se, but very silly for a perfume. 🐭
Now I’m wearing Assam of India, joining chocolatemarzipan and foxbins. Have to go out and do a few errands, and it’s just too hot for a non-citrus.
You smell great!!
You do, too! 😆
Rabbit, rabbit, rabbit! And Happy Colorado Day NST!
Going to be AKF for a bit. I’m headed to a high school reunion, and I’m flying on Delta. Wish me luck!
SOTD = commando, but wearing Bliss Grapefruit & Aloe body butter in the usual spots.
🍀 and enjoy the reunion.
Good luck and have fun!
Have a great time!
Have fun and safe travels!
I saw your comment about Metallica the other day and didn’t have a chance to comment, but wanted to ask you if you’ve been watching any of their live videos on YouTube. They’ve been touring in Europe and have been releasing clips from most of the shows. When they played in Germany it was down-pouring! They just rocked on!🤘
Good luck!
Smoothie is nectarines again.
The Body Shop Vanilla Chai body spray today, very delicious scent but wears light and tonight vintage Volupté.
I baked a cake today, it’s an almond, simple cake.
Enjoy your cake!
You smell wonderful in vintage Volupte.
It was really good, thank you Lillyjo, ah, Volupté has your name on it all over, so perfumey and fruity as always.
Calling all rabbitses for a good August.
I’m in Mona di Orio Jabu.
I hope you have a great August lucasai!
Hello all,
My mom went in the hospital this morning, I think she is just fine & probably having side effects from an epidural injection she had earlier in the week…but I may or may not be back today!
Hope everything is okay and she’s home soon!
Wishing her well Robin!
Hoping for the best outcome for your mom.
Ouch! Hope all goes well!
Hoping the best for your mom, Robin.
Sending lots of healing vibes to your mom Robin.
Oh, that is stressful. Wishing you and your mom calm while you navigate this health emergency. And hope it proves to be minor.
Sending vibes for your mom!
I hope it was just the side effects and that matters have resolved themselves.
oof so sorry Robin. Thinking good thoughts for your Mom and also for you.
As to silly perfume names, perhaps ELDO has the most silly names of perfumes, (Secretions Magnifiques? anyone) in addition to the name of the brand: Etat Libre d’Orange. What??
I’m in Jousset Bakhoor, which is way too gourmandy and sweet for me: milky caramelly, buttery, vanillic overload. I feel my cholesterol spiking with every breath I take.
I’ll have to find a silly name perfume for tomorrow. It’s a great way to go through my shelves as well.
Take care everyone!
