It's Tuesday and the International Day of Friendship. Happy 88th birthday to Buddy Guy! More birthdays: Emily Brontë, C. T. Vivian. RIP Edna O'Brien. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in Demeter Gingerale, the best kind of silly. Tea at the moment is Kusmi Troika.
Reminder: 8/2 will be Silly Friday...wear a silly perfume, or a perfume with a silly name, or a perfume that comes in a silly bottle, or ? (Raise your hand if you are the person who suggested this!)
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2024, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: the Jellycat Amuseable toy teapot is $30 at Shower Me With Love Charlotte.
I always thought Le Frenchy was a pretty silly name. It was renamed Frenchy Lavande which is hardly any better.
The only reason I have a (nearly empty) bottle is that I received it as gift. I love the fragrance itself but the name and the price are both silly.
Good call, forgot that one!
Shades of Destry Rides Again!
Love the furry teapot!
I’m wearing Malin+Goetz Dark Rum. Love this scent and I wish I could spray it on liberally but it’s an oil rollerball so it wears pretty close to the skin.
My mom is being released from rehab on Friday. I have hired a new caretaker, she has worked in nursing homes and is looking to branch out on her own, and mom likes her, so far so good 🤞
I hope it all works out well 🤞
Glad your mom likes her, hope the transition goes well!🤞
So happy you were able to find a good caregiver for your mom.
Good news about your Mom! Hope her discharge goes smoothly.
Great news, hoping all goes well!
“I’ll walk where my own nature would be leading:
It vexes me to choose another guide.”
Happy Birthday Emily Brontë
Binging watching Shogun
Tea is Eros
toast with peanut butter and jam
Toast twins! Except no jam.
My mother in law makes homemade jam..so I can’t resist
What a treat!
Did you see the film ‘Emily’ that was released a couple of years ago with Emma Mackey? I loved that movie.
Also wanted to throw out my fav Jo Malone layering (too busy to comment last week) of Wood Sage and Sea Salt with Lime Basil & Mandarin- it’s great!
Yes, I did see that movie! Loved it!
ok, I need the Lime one and then I will try 🙂 I am really enjoying experimenting with layering the fragrances. especially in this heat. Jo Malone is thankfully so light most come off refreshing and not suffocating.
Yes, that would be a good pairing of Jo Malone fragrances. I always did the pairing by having one body cream/lotion and one cologne. I never mixed the colognes together. Just personal preference. I like scented body lotions.
Shogun was excellent…enjoy!
I’m wearing Corsica Furiosa, because I haven’t worn it for awhile and I love it.
Superb! 😃
I have to see what I have that can be considered silly.
Today I am wearing Jasmin Bonheur hoping that it brings some kind of joy to my day !!
Hope it worked Hera!
Hello.
Sotd is Oud Alezan.
In my local Hermes, the 15ml travel sprays set seems to be the most economical/reasonable. Oud Alezan, being an edp costs more than the others from the collection as they are edt. However, in the 15ml form, it costs the same as the rest! So if you have been tempted to try OA out but can’t commit to a full bottle, go for the sets. I bought an 8pcs set with 4 bottles of OA (that’s a healthy 60ml!) and 2 each of Vetiver Tonka and Epice Marine. I also love that each 15ml bottle has their own sturdy, pretty dust bag so there’s extra padding for travel.
I just arrived at Bangkok for a 1 week summer holiday. I can’t wait to explore the city and enjoy the countless delicacies Thailand has to offer. Yay!
I packed a handful of samples (mostly Guerlain & Amouage) and the 3 Hermes scents I mentioned.
Looking forward to reading more about your trip!
Will post about my adventures!
Wow, what an amazing place to be for a week! Enjoy every minute!
I will! Thank you so much!
Have a great time!
Thank you! 😀
As usual, I’m a day late and a dollar short. Forgot all about my Shalimar Body Creme last week, probably because I keep it in the fridge rather than the bathroom. Anyway, that’s my base layer today, which I topped off with a couple of sprays of Summer Shalimar MI.
You know what’s silly? The price of these Shalimar flankers! Silly cheap is what I mean, considering the cost of perfume these days. Well done, almost universally loved by the OG Shalimar lovers (and even some that don’t like the OG Shalimar! Crazy people! 🤣), and accessible if you have The Internet. Curious as to what the price will be of the flanker coming out this fall…
Yesterday, I was checking in a man who had a great sense of humor and fun. We were bantering back and forth, having a good time, when up stomps this woman, smoke coming out both nostrils, butts the man out of the way and stands there with her hands in her hips and yells at me, “He’s not ALONE, you know!” Then proceeds to stomp off. He skedaddled quick as a bunny after her. Yowza, did she think I was trying to steal her man? For reference, I’m old, gray, and fluffy. No man is going to be “stolen” by the likes of me. People kill me. 🤣
Good lord, sounds like she’s got some issues! Poor guy, I’ve seen that type and I’m sure she let him have it later.
Shalimar MI is always good, though now that I bought Romance d’Iris by Zara, I haven’t been wearing it that much. I am very curious about the upcoming flanker this year. Last year, I believe I bought my first bottle of Shalimar MI in September so I am guessing it will be out in a little over a month. Can’t wait.
Sounds like that woman has abandonment issues and/or is extremely jealous.
I know people are raving about some of those Zara fragrances and the price point is excellent. I just can NOT stand their website. I’m glad you found a winner there! You must really love it if MI is now more frequently on the sidelines. ❤️
I am surprised you have so much trouble with the website. If you google Zara perfume, it will bring them all up.
Yikes. This is both ridiculous and sad.
“ … quick as a bunny … “ — sounds like they had a good time 🤣
This woman has so many problems, ridiculous.
Yowza! Sounds like that lady has not just issues, but whole subscriptions…
Hey, never heard that one before! I like it so much I may steal it…🙃
Omg that teapot is so cute!
Work was so busy last week and has slowed down a little this week.
I’m in Glossier You yesterday and today. Hard to believe we are coming up on August, but this is how summer goes- fast!
You smell good. I liked that one, but it didn’t seem to last long.
I quickly clicked on the link but ultimately decided not to get it. The reason? I just spent $$s on a crocheting kit, never mind that I have not successfully made one yet … but you know, Snoopy
Givenchy Very Irresistible L’Intense. I think this flanker naming is a bit silly. Also, while I like this particular flanker, seeing the insane amount of flankers Irresistible has makes my eyes roll.
There are so many silly flanker names!
Some of those flanker names are totally word salads.
On my way to the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame today. With the rain, it’s humid and I am in vintage no 19 edp.
Hope it was fun Dawn!
Happy Tuesday, all! A respite from the intense heat of the last few weeks. Gorgeous day in SoCal.
Wearing Chergui from Serge Lutens – brand new to my nose – and absolutely loving it.
Oh what fun to discover Chergui! You smell great.
SOTD = Marc Antoine Barrois Ganymede
Seriously … so good!

Coincidence, or not? I was just wondering if I should rebalance my 401(k) portfolio and it seems that most do, with some rolling-over theirs to an IRA (or equivalent). It is not an option for me because: 1) the balance (and no, not interested in “managing” it that closely) AND 2) the administrator for my previous employer had and continues to do a great job. My only option then really is to rebalance it based on my available choices. Anyway, today I just got my quarterly statement and I will be doing research. Th aka to everyone who weighed in!
Did you ever get a break from the summer muggies?
For a few days and now we’re back to the muggies.
I currently work with a financial advisor, but for a long time I managed my own investments. Checked on them every quarter, looked seriously twice a year, and re-balanced (if needed) once a year. If you determine your level of comfort with risk versus your age and financial needs, it will help you make smart choices for you. Now that I’m in the “last quarter” of my life, some good choices have ensured a comfortable retirement….I am lucky!
We have been blessed too when we went into retirement, plus my husband is a retired financial advisor and so our investment person is one of his old associates.
Great for you!
Excellent!
SOTD is Zara Fleur de Patchouli. This has been a staple for me this summer though I can see it being worn any season. Enabler pin to Jalapeno as she is the one that mentioned it. I just love the heavy bottles and magnetic cap.
Whoo hoo, enabler loot! 👑💍💎
ITA that Fleur de Patchouli is a 4-season scent.
I haven’t seen you wearing it. Do you like it?
I do, very much. But I’ve been giving some of my other (neglected) bottles a bit of skin time. I hadn’t worn L’Eau de Chloe for several years.
Maison Margiela Whispers in the Library for Teapot Tuesday!
Tea the whole day was Twinings good old Earl Grey at work.
My sotd was really light, but I received a couple of compliments on it at work, which I thought was odd as I could hardly smell it myself today.Anosmia to a note or 2?Dunno!
Curious about the new MM as well, sounds good!
XO’s
Yay for the compliments!
Assam of India. I’ll be wearing it every day for the month of August thanks to the kind person who gifted me her unloved bottle 🥰😘😍
Will it be another thunk by the end of the month?
No because it’s a very full bottle which I’m very happy about!!!
How lovely! That perfume always reminds me of you. Hoping you are not suffocating too badly in this muggy heat.
I’ve got perfumes with pretentious names, but I haven’t thought of any yet that are downright silly.
Winter weather has returned with a vengeance, and I’m wearing the very cosy Anima Dulcis from Arquiste.
Wearing Cuir de Lancome for a classy day at the office. I don’t have this perfume, oddly, but my vote for Silly Perfume Name is…Loverdose. There. It was hard for me to even type
Lol. It is a silly name!
Agree, Loverdose is a silly name. And the bottle reminds me of the old 8-bit videogame graphics.
Seems like Imaginary Authors ought to come in for a good showing during Silly Week, and I’m sure I will be helping. 😉 Meanwhile, SOTD today is Rebecca Minkoff. It’s a very interesting scent, and I only just noticed how much the tobacco note blooms in the far drydown. Lovely.
I get a lot of tobacco with RM.
Yes, IA does have a few silly names. Never even thought about them. Good thinking Sheri.
I’m short on perfumes with silly names so I’ll save the one silly named perfume I have for Friday.
In the meantime, I’ll turn to my neglected but loved fragrances. Today is AdV Oeillet Bengale. I’m in carnation heaven!
Gorgeous perfume! And the original bottle design was beautiful, too.
They are gorgeous bottles. I heard a story that one of the owners of AdV had the sprayer made to resemble an antique cigarette lighter he found at a flea market in Paris.
I did not know that!
Smoothie is two white peaches instead.
Summer has finally come to the UK, 28C and very lovely, I wore JP Ma Liberté, the sirupy lavender radiated in the sunshine, so good and completely unisex, tonight it’s AdP Vaniglia, a perfumey vanilla, not too sweet, I really enjoy it.
Yay for Summer (finally!)
Thank you Lillyjo, I am making the most of it as it may not last.
Glad to hear that you are enjoying summer weather and summer fruit!
Thank you Jalapeno.
I’m wearing Carner Barcelona D600, a pretty silly fragrance name given that it doesn’t reference anything related to fragrance and sounds like an industrial cleaning product. But it smells wonderful on me and is appropriate anywhere. For Friday, I have some Smell Bent so silly will be easy.
Your sotd makes me think of the movie Transylvania 6-5000.
I went to Macy’s today to test out the new Gabrielle L’eau. It is really nice! A lot quieter than the other two. The SA actually gave me a manufacturer sample without me even asking! I also tested the original Gabrielle body cream and oh that was wonderful in smell and consistency.
So the Macy’s by you has perfume testers out?
They do but not always. I’ve been in before when they have been behind the counter. Maybe they are only out when an SA is there?
A non-solicited sample in the wild? Incredibly rare! 🙂 I shall have to try that one. Gabrielle never really wowed me.
I liked the first two, but they are both a little on the sharp side for me. I wore the L’eau all day and didn’t get a headache.
I may have tried Gabrielle once ever and was not interested in trying out the flankers. Glad you liked it!
I have a few perfumes from Smell Bent, so this CP is in the bag!
On a less happy note, a couple of wildfires have broken out near me. The first one has probably made the national news by now. I am safe, and definitely nowhere close to any evacuation zones. But the air quality here is not good. I smell smoke if I step outside, and have a bit of a headache now. Bleah!
SOTD = Pepper Ylang Frankensmellie from Smell Bent.
Take care with that smoke–but I have to tell you, the air quality is not much better here, in your old neighborhood!
Sorry to hear that the air quality is horrid back there. You all are getting the wildfire smoke too?
I am running an air purifier that I brought along from New Jersey. Had a feeling it could come in handy. If things get really bad, I have a few KN-95 masks I will wear when I go outdoors.
That’s awful news about the fires. Is your brother’s area safe?
My brother lives further away from the fires than I do. So he’s good.
Oy with the wildfires. Stay safe. Not needed but somehow I have one on each floor and have a spare one just in case.
Thanks. I am easily 40 miles away from both fires. No worries there.
Wearing a mask outside sounds like a good idea, and I’m glad you and your brother are safe.
Thank you ringthing. Very glad I have a stash of KN-95 masks still!
Scary nonetheless, stay safe, so sad for nature.
Thanks Aurora. It’s tinder-dry here in Colorado right now. The drought map isn’t looking good at all.
So sorry for your smoke woes, hopefully the fires will be extinguished soon!
Thank you cazaubon. Unfortunately, it looks like things are getting worse today (Wednesday).
Mix of work and play today. First half of the day was work and then went for a brief sniffing at Sephora on my way to eyelash tint appointment. The fragrance section looked as if it had been overrun – most of the tester positions were empty. I sprayed myself with several testers and the wonderful vestige on my skin is either Kayali Vanilla 28 or one of the Sol de Janeiro scents. I was looking at beach inspired scents but a lot fell short – too aquatic – and I ended up veering to vanillas.
I am lately resolving to test anything I intend to buy but it gets difficult because I am committed either to getting lots of samples versus being overwhelmed at the fragrance counter.
I started out the day in Nuit de Nomade Nothing But Sea and Sky which IS a nice (chilly and deserted) beach scent and one of my few successful blind buys. Somehow these newer sandalwood scents give me a coconut vibe, which is fine by me.
I tend to get more overwhelmed by samples.
Sampling Gumamina Odette today. It’s lovely and notes are below. It comes in a fancy swan bottle but beware…the price is not for the faint of heart. ♥️🦢
Grapefruit Soda, Rhubarb, Rose, Orris, Tonka, Musk
I saw a perfume video today that made me think of you. It was supposed to be about Masterpiece Perfume but it turned out to be almost all Poseur Niche! Lol. I just love that you coined that term.
Yes, poser niche describes a good chunk of the last 10 years in the perfume industry I’d say. eheheh 😇
Bet that massive price tag is for the fancy swan bottle!
Yes, bottles aren’t cheap. I tried a sample of the other perfume in the black swan bottle and liked it too. ehaehhe but that one is more fall/winter.
Sounds yummy! I won’t even look at the price.
