It's the last Friday in July. Happy 81st to Mick Jagger! (And a very happy 79 to Helen Mirren.) Our community project for today: scent a Rolling Stones song, or scent Mick Jagger himself, or do whatever you want with the theme.
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
I'm scenting the 1966 Stones song I Am Waiting. (Like many people, I first heard this song many years later, when Wes Anderson used it in his 1998 movie Rushmore.) I'm in Astier de Villatte Grand Chalet.
Reminder: 8/2 will be Silly Friday...wear a silly perfume, or a perfume with a silly name, or a perfume that comes in a silly bottle, or ? (Raise your hand if you are the person who suggested this!)
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2024, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: top image is Mick Jagger in 1966.

And an enabler pin goes to you, SarahN! 😄
Hello and tgif!
My sotd is Oud Alezan for the song (I Can Get No) Satisfaction. Pretty much sums up how I cannot be truely satisfied with the collection I have. Oud Alezan is my latest and definitely not last Rose-Oud. Honestly speaking, how many ways can one do such a scent combination? But alas, I like it so much, I will keep getting them… (Actually, the same goes for other scent genres and this is just an example.)
Yes, I Can Get No Satisfaction is a perfumista’s anthem. 🤣
In Porter sa Peau (a French name for a nod to the Olympics) whose notes include narcissus, ylang, jasmine and rose. Tie-in, since notes are bottled, is Dead Flowers😉🌹.
Ha! Great match and song!
Layering Mimosa & Cardamon with WSS
I smell good..
The only connection is London-that is as good as I can do for partial points.
I am doing the same – 4160 Tuesdays Clouds for London perfumer Sarah McCartney.
🏴 for points
Or “Get Off My Cloud.” 😉
Ha! I did not even think of the London connection! You smell great in Clouds!
Happy Friday everyone!
I’m wearing Chanel Egoiste because doesn’t that apply to Mick? And Keith? And Ron? They’re all Egoistes!
My mom’s rehab facility has happy hour on Fridays, complete with a full bar and snacks. I don’t drink alcohol anymore but last week’s special was Pina Coladas and they smelled great, so that’s my afternoon plans.
I don’t know how long her insurance will let her stay here but I’m hoping for another couple of weeks, this is a nice facility.
Hopefully your Mom will be able to stay longer. Have you been able to find a new caretaker yet?
I think your perfume match is perfect for Mick!
I found a caretaker this morning and she looks very promising 👍
Excellent! Hope it works out.
That’s great news!
Wonderful, keeping my fingers crossed that it will work out!
I’m very glad that for now she’s in a place she likes, and that you feel comfortable as possible. Nothing about your situation is easy, and I wish you the best with all of it 🙂
Thanks you carole!
Fingers crossed your mother can stay there as long as she needs. Enjoy that cocktail!
Great SOTD, and a lovely update about your Mom! Hope she does get a little more time there.
Hello!
Wearing Ruby Woo for Ruby Tuesday. One of the songs I got to see live and it was great. Woo has a leather note which is also fitting for rocker vibes:). Have a great Friday! 🌹
Excellent. I almost saw them live, once, years ago, but was forced to go on a family vacation and I was MAD. Ha.
I’m not intimate with a lot of Stones songs, and the ones I am particularly familiar with don’t call any scents to mind, so I’m taking the easy route and wearing Bulgari Black for Paint It Black. Basically cheating, but it smells great, at least.
There is no cheating! You get points!
No cp for me today. I found a sample I’ve never tried that sounded intriguing. L’Atelier Belle Joueuse is a mix of raspberry and ginger with a few other notes thrown in. Quite interesting on my skin.
That does sound like it could be interesting.
I am familiar with only a handful of the Rolling Stones’ songs, but out of those, “Wild Horses” is for now my favorite. It is so beautiful and emotionally complex—a story of love and heartache. It is both Richards’ guitar and tune (written to express his sadness about parting from his family, especially his 2-month-old son), and Jagger’s lyrics and vocal delivery. I always tear up when I listen to this song.
After considering a lot of scents, I sprayed Clinique Aromatics Elixir on my left arm and Chanel Cuir de Russie on my right arm. They both match the mood for me, albeit in different ways.

I watched you suffer
A dull aching pain
Now you’ve decided
To show me the same
No sweeping exit
Or offstage lines
Could make me feel bitter
Or treat you unkind
…
Wild horses
Couldn’t drag me away
Wild, wild horses
We’ll ride them some day
Wild Horses is one of my favorite Rolling Stones songs, I love the whole album that it’s on, Sticky Fingers. Is the word album still in use??
Good question. Do they still release albums today? Maybe when they want to release a collection of songs with a common theme…🤔
Some DJs here still use the word “album” when it comes to a new release. So it ain’t dead yet!
Such a great song. I did not know Richards wrote it.
You guys.. listen to this.
My Rite Aid store is going out of business. It’s very sad. I have been going there for 20 years. They carry some perfumes and I have been stalking a 1oz bottle of Alien for a few weeks. This morning I went there to get some kitchen items half off and noticed Alien was gone. As I was checking out I mentioned to the cashier that I shouldn’t have waited so long to get it. She then asked me if I liked her perfume. I said it was very nice. She said here take it, and handed me a bottle of Burberry London! I told her I could not take her perfume. We went round and round and I finally accepted her generous gift. It made me cry.
My sotd is Burberry London with the obvious connection to Mick.
Such a heartwarming story, enjoy your bottle!
That’s so sweet. Enjoy your gift!
Perfume people are the best-enjoy your beautiful new scent !
Aww, how sweet! Wear it with joy.
Rite Aid in our neighborhood closed down recently, likely due to theft and other issues in the city. I’m concerned that the nearby Duane Reade might face the same fate since it’s in pretty rough shape. On a brighter note, your perfume gift reminds me that there are still acts of kindness from strangers. I would have cried too! That is so nice. How does Burberry London smell
They closed our local Rite Aid, which was in a completely safe neighborhood. I think they closed lots of stores.
What a lovely experience! London is really good, too. Almost made me tear up reading this.
So kind a gesture, and a classic, enjoy your new goody.
How nice! I hope that wearing it always makes you feel happy. 🌈
Enjoy your surprise gift!
I love this story. Enjoy your gift!
Very nice!
Ours closed too, last fall, I think? I would walk there on my days off and read home decor magazines and purchase the occasional chocolate bar. I remember once when I had to pick up a medicine I had flagged down a pharmacist and she patiently answered every single one of my questions. It’s a bummer.
Aww, what a great story. Enjoy!
What a wonderful gesture from the cashier!
I’m not sure I’ve seen a single Rite-Aid in Colorado.
Gosh, what a sweet lady! You will always remember her and the store when you wear that perfume.
I’m not much of a Stones’ fan so I had a hard time with this one, but I chose the popular Jo Malone London Wood Sage and Sea Salt, a favorite of mine. It always reminds me of the English Shore, and Christine Nagel, its perfumer, says ‘It provides the feeling of freedom and natural spirit.’ And that certainly applies to Mick Jagger and his energetic performances!
We’re headed out to Indiana for the Pierogi Fest in Whiting, then spending the rest of a long weekend visiting some of our favorite places in the Michiana area, including a winery, botanical garden, and a frisbee golf course in a forest! Wishing everyone a wonderful weekend ahead. 🌞
Sort of scent twins!
👯
Enjoy your travels
Michiana is my home! The weather is gorgeous right now, have a fun weekend.
Your travels sound like a fun time!
Pierogi, YUM! 😋
I’ve been on an Imaginary Authors bender lately, it seems. Last night I wore Whiff of Waffle Cone, which pairs well with the Stones’ Brown Sugar, and this morning I’m in Every Storm a Serenade. A little on the nose, serenading being Sir Mick’s primary function in the band, but also the whole rock ‘n roll genre is a bit stormy, both musically and behaviorally. Ever serenade a storm? Maybe. 😂
Perfect SheriG!
I am not a big fan of Rolling Stones, I am guessing Mick Jagger would wear something loud with a big presence. That’s why I chose to wear one of my vintages Eternity, this was the perfume i used to wear in my 20’s and had a big presence , people knew i was in the building from the trail i would leave in the lobby. My tastes have changed during the years but i still love Eternity.
I am not a huge fan, but they are just part of my musical background I guess? But I have probably bought 2 Stones albums in my whole life.
Wearing a smidgen of Deneuve today since I can’t come up with anything for the CP. I am happy that when I clockout from work at 8pm on Saturday, I will be on vacation. I don’t have a lot planned but having 8 days that I don’t have to be at work is a good thing.
Yay for your holiday.
Enjoy your staycation!
Charlie Watts loved cologne, and always used it. One night Mick apparently called Charlie, and said-where’s my drummer? Charlie took this right on the nose, made himself elegant in a beautiful suit and lashings of cologne, went to Mick’s room, punched Mick, and said-I’m not your drummer-you’re my singer!
Wearing Guerlain Cologne Imperial, in honour of my favourite Stone 🙂
Aww.. R.I.P Charlie.
I love that he had to scent himself as well as dressing up.
Ha! Love that story! 😆 I’ll bet that Jagger needed taking down a peg every now and then.
Great story about Charlie Watts!
Love that story!
On my second cuppa coffee, watching the roiling clouds. We had a good rain overnight and I’m hoping we’ll get more. The water is standing in pools all over because the ground here is like concrete. I tried to pull up a small sapling trunk the other day and couldn’t budge it with a shovel. Even tried bouncing up and down on the shovel with all my fluffy self but nope, didn’t make a dent. Hoping the sun hides all dang day as I’m outside for a few hours again this morning. Putting in my request for another week of daily rain because Washington, Oregon, Montana, almost every western state, is in flames. It’s so sad.
As for The Rolling Stones, when I first heard this song as a wee youngster, it made me really stop and think. As I got older, I was terribly impressed with the wisdom of the following lines:
“No, you can’t always get what you want
You can’t always get what you want
You can’t always get what you want
But if you try sometime you’ll find
You get what you need”
I had no idea what the song was really about, and I still don’t tbh, but those lines have stuck with me my entire life. But, to twist the CP and those lines up a bit, I did get exactly what I wanted and also what I needed when I was finally able to score a bottle of Onda VdE. I lamented not coughing up the bucks for it originally and then it was gone baby, gone. “You can’t always have what you want, Devagurl,” I kept saying to myself. But then, lo and behold, It became available again, I got my paws on it, parted with some hard earned change, and never regretted it! Also don’t regret the mint chocolate chip ice cream I got my paws on this week! 🍦
Happy weekend, may you all stay fire free!
I had to laugh at this because this is EXACTLY how some people act when they can’t get the campsite they want. And yes, we’ve had to call the police once…forget the Zinger Melt, they want spot C15!!😂
https://www.instagram.com/reel/C94k48uukJX/?igsh=MWc2MDZ5cWEwaDRlcQ==
Fingers crossed we both get more precip!
Mine was just enough to mess up the windows on my car.
That has always been my favorite Stones song.
I have been on mint chocolate chip kick all summer. With a drizzle of EV olive oil, which it turns out absolutely nobody likes but me.
So glad you got rain!
CP retrofit: in Vetiver Pour Elle, which on the rare side, if not something only a millionaire could buy. Bit of a stretch logically…
The more stretching the better!
I don’t have any, but I read once that Mick wears, or used to wear, Jicky.
That makes sense for him somehow.
Agreed.
Eating nuts currently. It was Eau des Sens this morning but tonight for the CP matching Sympathy for the devil I am wearing Le Feu d’Issey from my round 15ml bottle, it’s my own vintage I bought a coffret of two bottles when it was released with a red soft round plastic holder.
I had to look up the meaning of le Feu. Great match! I haven’t tried your sotd.
Oh, I should have provided the translation, Lillyjo, Le Feu was the first lactonic perfume which was completely unique at the time.
I have almonds and pistachios in my pantry as snacks. Plus, pistachios are a really nice add in to salads for a bit of crunch and protein.
Totally agree with you about pistachios.
That is excellent Aurora. Plus, you smell fantastic.
Thank you Robin, I did enjoy it very much, so unique.
I forgot about the community project but ended up wearing Agent Provocateur, which certainly works for Sympathy for the Devil.
Yes, it does!
You smell(ed) fantastic today!
https://perfumuschicago.wordpress.com/2011/11/24/shalimar-eau-de-parfum-redesign/
I was thinking of the women related to (or once married to etc. ) who have perfume associations…Jerry Hall Opium, Georgia May Jagger Alien etc. but realised that my bottle of Shalimar is the one redesigned by daughter Jade Jagger so am wearing that.
That is a wonderful interpretation of this CP, plus one of the best perfumes ever!
This is so interesting! I never knew this.
I forgot all about that! Kudos.
Failing the CP in Fiori de Capri, but I smell very very pretty! This is a good thread, now I have Satisfaction and Wild Horses competing in my head to be ear worm of the day! LOL!
Satisfaction in how you smell beats any CP!
So maybe you are compliant after all? 🤔
Aww, thanks for the nice save!
I don’t know many Stones song but one I know and quite like is Paint It Black, from Kevin Bacon movie called Stir of Echoes. I’m wearing Black Rosette by Strange Invisible Perfumes, again. In addition to being a great minty and leathery rose, it has notes of wood and in the beginning, hints of paint so it totally makes sense for this song.
Your SOTD sounds fantastic!
Nice retrofit, I like it.
I had planned to wear Sticky Fingers today, but it’s still a bit too warm for it. So instead I’m wearing Bracken Man, courtesy of the very generous NSTer Daniel. I can picture Mick rocking this scent in his white suit.
Fabulous! I’m sure you’re rocking it, too.😎
😍 I’m really enjoying it!
How is Bracken Man?
It’s really good! I have a soft spot for fougères, even if many of the recent ones I’ve tried tend to get a bit too tonka-y and heavy in the drydown. But Braken has an incredible dry down, it’s more zingy than many fougères I’ve tried. Sadly, I think it might be discontinued.
I’ve had a bit of a day and to my great surprise I’m still commando. Have a great weekend everyone!
Hope your weekend is better, austenfan!
Goldfield&Banks Silky Woods for a nursing conference today.
The event is always fun and their catering is out of this world.Topics included Laughter Yoga, the evergrowing nursing crises and the Mayor of my city also came by.
Happy Friday!
✌🏻🌹
I love Silky Woods! Hope the conference was all you imagined it would be!
Glad it was fun and not boring!
Happy Friday back atcha!
I was never a great Stones fan. But, I did see them in concert at University of Colorado’s Folsom Field when I was in my mid-20’s. Friend gave us tickets. That was 45 years ago! Yes, I’m an old. My favorite of theirs was and is “Sympathy for the Devil”. The guitar rift in the middle is fabulous. They did not play it Boulder. It was still to close to the incident at Altamont. Anyway, I’m pairing that with L’Artisan “Passage d’Enfer”.
It’s hard to believe that 45 years ago is 1979! In my head it’s no more than 25 years ago. Lol.
Great pairing!
They’re still putting on concerts at Folsom Field. Just heard about an upcoming event on the radio this morning.
I’m so old I literally forgot about Altamont.
Happy Friday!
I’m in Naomi Goodsir’s horsey Corpus Equus for “Wild Horses”
Well played
Nicely done!
Great song and great pairing!
SOTD = 4160 Tuesdays Hush Hush EDP
Iris violet and is way more long lasting than the EDT. Love! 💜
The connection with Mick Jagger is the smell of whatever lipstick / lipgloss he uses to moisturize those luscious lips 👄 🫦💗!
https://www.instagram.com/p/C95cjI4P4jj/?igsh=dm41cnY4bjFoYzRk
Lol! Good one!
Did you get all 3 concentrations of Hush Hush, too?
I’m going all girly for the CP today, wearing Atelier Cologne Jasmin Angelique for the song “Angie.” And for our wonderful Angela, whom I still miss seeing here.
My decant has seen better days, I’m afraid, but it still seems to be available online.
Hope everyone has a fun, safe, and healthy weekend!
Love Jasmin Angelique!
It’s a pretty one, isn’t it?
It really is. I liked so many of the earlier Ateliers.
Jasmin Angelique was/is very pretty!
Jo Malone Wood Sage & Sea Salt and a cup of iced lemon, ginger and honey tea.
Yum on both counts!
I agree with AnnE. Yum!
Good morning! I haven’t kept up with NST this week, it’s been an extraordinary week at work, my beloved hasn’t been well but is feeling better, the cat has been missing and found (she was only away for a few hours, but enough for me to get into a state), and I’m very glad to have reached Saturday.
In the midst of that, I got a call from our local perfumery to tell me about two new releases from Arquiste. I need to sniff them properly, but a spray on a card tells me that A Grove by the Sea is a light herby fig, and Venice Rococo is a vintage-ish powdery scent
Report back!
Glad to hear that your wayward kitty is back home safe, and your special person is feeling better.
Hurray, there have been light rain showers in the area today! It’s washed some of the nasty stuff out of the air, and cooled things down to the low 90s.
I am usually solar powered, but I needed a break from the heat and smoke!
Song I picked today was not a favorite from the Rolling Stones, but it fit perfectly with the perfume I wanted to wear. Song of the Day = https://youtu.be/SGyOaCXr8Lw
SOTD = vintage Ivoire de Balmain EdT. This kicked off a slow burning appreciation for perfume which eventually became full blown perfume mania. I have half a bottle left which I bought when you could find Balmain perfumes at J C Penney!
That is a good match!
I don’t think Balmain was ever in my area. I’ve never seen that brand in person.
It was in only 1 Penney’s store in the entire Denver metro area. So I took a 3-hour bus ride across the city to get there. (There weren’t any express buses that went where I wanted to go.)
This was around 35 years ago. The Ivoire de Balmain still smells great!
Smelling fabulous, of course! The bus ride was definitely worth it. I got my bottle of Ivoire when we were on a camping trip to Bellingham, WA. We were close enough to go to the mall.
I remember getting a bottle of Halston at Sears in my hometown soooo many years ago. They had the best stuff at the department stores back in the day!
Thanks Gail!
So true about the department stores back in the day!
I was at a Macy’s this afternoon, and not a tester to be seen in the fragrance department. Everything was locked up.
Depressing.
Oh you smell glorious of course, interesting about department stores in the past.
I love “Beast of Burden,” so I’m wearing the extraordinary “Ma Bête,” from Eris – a startling perfume that somehow manages to be both glamorous and feral all at once.
Perfect match! I tried all week the match Beast of Burden and came up empty handed.
Perfect!
What a clever pairing for a wonderful song!
My favourite Rolling Stones song is “Sympathy for the Devil” and I wore Habit Rouge Eau de Parfum which I think is fitting.
